  1. I continue to be appreciative of the fact that we have a leader who seems pragmatic in decision making and balances calculation and transparency when he speaks publicly.

  3. But the decision isn't being made today. Things change rapidly and will most certainly be different in a few weeks. A few weeks ago, things were far better. And based on non-political sources like Your Local Epidemiologist, there has been improvement since each day since last weekend. The decision do not need to be made now - neither the Big XII nor the SEC have made decisions - so let's wait and see.

  4. Hopefully. Wish we had the mask mandate the whole time. I really hope we can turn this around in short order.

  5. Where does banging your intern in the Oval Office fall on the scale?🤣🤣 Though I do agree with you that Trump can’t out of his own way. My gosh the problems he could avoid if he would just stay off Twitter.

  6. There’s still time to turn this thing around and, strictly from a sports standpoint, get things back. Get the numbers down, have a basketball season starting in November, get a full football season, or at least a 10-game conference season, starting in the spring, etc.

  7. One of the main problems as I see it is there is no identifiable target and/or the target keeps moving with respect to this virus. When political or public health "leaders" are pressed for answers on what they are looking for in their decision making the response is typically "we'll have to see where we are," but that doesn't really answer the question. Is it transmission rates (new daily cases, total cases, etc.), hospitalizations, deaths, affected age groups, comorbitities, raw numbers, percentage of population, treatments, a vaccine, something else or all of the above? Does the curve need to be flattened or does the curve need to go away? I think people will rally around a goal, they just don't know what the goal is.

  8. We can start the season on Nov7....the Covid will be gone on the 3rd.

  9. This really, really pains me to say, but I would rather not have a season and go into next year with the same team instead of half-assing our way through this one and having things get cancelled once one player gets the virus. However, the financial ramifications of not having a season are crippling, the NCAA would be forced to give everyone an extra year of eligibility so we would also be paying more than ever for our athletes in 2021 and beyond due to few seniors leaving, and a whole new class coming in. Paying more than ever after a season where we have zero revenue come in and are still paying our coaches salaries is truly the worst case scenario for our athletic program and I would imagine many schools, UNT included, will be put into very tough positions.

  10. Maybe if we used all of the terms we hear daily- 2020 “Reimagined”; a 2020 “Re-boot”; 2020 “Restart”. Any others that I missed?

  12. DENTON, Texas — It's a nightmare to imagine, but it's becoming a reality for many colleges in America: a fall without football. "If the decision had to be made today, we wouldn't play," admitted Wren Baker, athletic director at the University of North Texas. read more: https://www.wfaa.com/mobile/article/sports/the-impact-of-covid-19-on-college-football-other-fall-sports-in-2020/287-a477cd8d-d410-483e-a48f-6e0f2cc37e40

  15. If we're switching to a 4-man front in Bowen's defense, he's virtually a lock for the 2-deep as a true Freshman if he comes here... Not because, "He can be a star at UNT, or ride the bench for 4 years at <P5school>!!!1!11!!!1!!", but because we have very little depth at DT since we've run a 3-man front for so long. Coach Mathies was touted as a recruiting guru when he came here. I hope he pulls this one off.

  17. Rico, we wish you the best in your football career. You provided results and despite your departure it was a pleasure having you do work for the MEAN GREEN. I hope you represent CUSA well.

  18. Seems like the budget has been better balanced recently... i'm sure that has helped keep us afloat recently. Way to go to Mr. Baker and the rest of the team. I'll take 3rd in CUSA at this stage, but, if we survive covid, i think that will significantly improve sooner rather than later.

  19. you can't have meaningful conversation if you aren't honest, simple as that. i don't watch the news...hate it...always negative. the news i see is online through social media, which i know is bad, but not one thing that has happened in the news has negatively affected me. i'm not as intuned as others and i'm sure something out there has affected me, but i don't see it. my life doesn't change day to day... (well, except when the bars closed down...i tend to drink a lot) i see everything that you mentioned. i'm not blind to things that go on, but i also don't care as much. no person is perfect, no president is perfect, they all have skeletons and issues. hell, clinton got a bj and spooged on some chic in the oval office that wasn't his wife...ok, that's his choice. that choice didn't affect my lifeand he was still a really good president. i also like that trump is a lightning rod...that he is unpredictable and that he isn't a normal politician. i believe career politicians are way to comfortable and truly don't do anything unless it helps themselves. i'm a fan of the one that goes against the grain, the person that gets the job done in nonnormal ways. i love it...it's how i live my life and how i teach in my classroom. i get in trouble plenty of times by parents that don't like how i do things, but the kids love me (in that nonweird way) and learn so much more than they would with a regular, by the book teacher. could those things bite me in that ass as a teacher? sure could those things bite us in the ass with our president? sure but that doesn't mean that they will and i've seen some of biden's live press conferences and they were a disaster...dude can't keep a straight thought, forgets words, goess from a serious reply to don't worry about it. i was more referring to the specifics of previous administrations that you brought up when i said i don't pay much attention to politics. of course, i still had no idea biden released his environmental and economic plans...guess i need to go see them, but i don't havea problem with how the economy is now and i don't really care about the environment all that much.

  23. They'd have no choice, and it would be for much longer than a year. They have already set the precedent by granting spring sport athletes an extra year for missing this season. With recruiting already in full swing they can't expect teams to maintain the same roster size if nobody leaves and roughly 25 new faces show up. I seriously doubt coaches will be willing to budge on the amount of scholarships they can offer, schools would to save money, but no way the coaches want that. Even if they reduce the scholarship number by one from 25 to 24 it would still take 25 years for things to reset. Cancelling the season will change the way college sports operate forever. Not sure if they would carry this policy to football or not (one of dozens of questions that would need to be answered asap) but with those spring athletes the NCAA gave the schools power to reduce scholarship aid to $0 to those who were in their final year of eligibility. I can't imagine any school telling a 4-5 year scholarship athlete that they can come back for their missed senior season but they have to pay their own way for everything, but that's a decision the NCAA left up to schools. Again, with football you're dealing with roughly 20 scholarships vs maybe 5 in those spring sports so football is a whole different animal. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2020/03/30/coronovirus-ncaa-grant-spring-sports-athletes-extra-eligibility/5090362002/

  30. Looking at the statistics for how Republicans feel about him and his handling of the pandemic, they will included in the quick to remove category too. But really, this isn't even a funny joke. There's no comedic value. Where's the punchline? The left doesn't approve of how Trump is governing? Or that we would just switch the masks inside out? The left is not trying to ignore science like the right? The punch line seems to be that the left would start to think irrationally like the right based upon our visceral reactions to Trump's handling of these problems. Doesn't seem like a joke on the left.

  31. Hamlet, before he graduates, could make a lot of us forget about Woolridge's time at UNT. Hamlet has learned to play solid defense under Coach Hodge and Coach McCasland to go along with his offensive output which will give Hamlet a great shot of furthering his playing career after he graduates. I enjoyed watching Ryan play and wished he would have stayed at UNT, but if his leaving meant we got Hamlet as a replacement, I am more than good with that exchange.

  32. Thanks. I think the virus is not as bad as the media portrays. Do I think it is a concern? Absolutely. Do I think you should wear a mask? 100%. For the most part, we were wearing a mask when out and about. The older population should be very careful when out and about. Same goes to people that are overweight or unhealthy. We will continue to stay at home, and limit our interactions with people.I do not have faith with the majority of America doing this.

  33. JFC..if you are proud of it act like it. FYI..Benford has been gone several years and our program is back under some great coaching leadership. You seem to forget that UNT won the conference championship just this last year along with that CBI championship you seem to disregard as second or third rate. Then you announce that you wouldn’t list you alma mater on your playing resume if you we’re Woolridge. So, JFC, have some pride. Open your eyes and see what is currently happening under Coach Mac and Company. I may be “dense”, but I am always on the side of my Alma Mater..unlike you it seems if you have a chance to list some other university you seems to think is better on your resume. Sure...like I said..imagine having some loyalty to your alma mater. Imagine that, huh? And, by the way, get you head out of the sand..the comments were directed primarily at someone who would “hide” UNT on the resume to highlight some one-year university that you see as “better” than UNT for resume purposes. Imagine having pride in your University..yep...imagine that???? And, don’t go off on me bucko...you were the one suggesting he list Gonzaga as his university as it would be better than listing UNT...you with two degrees from UNT. Big friggin’ deal...join the very big crowd.

  35. I'm not certain I would draw that conclusion. 68.95% of our budget is allocated. Of all the schools in CUSA, only FIU has a higher percentage.

  38. maybe they jump to his defense because they agree with him...just because it's ridiculous to you, doesn't mean it's ridiculous to them. very simple...or maybe they are blind followers, but you can't discount everyone that doesn't agree with you. you see things as ridiculous and petty...other see that those are needed responses or common sense thoughts. you have to have just as much of an open mind as you want others to have and be able to see things from all sides.

  40. it's funny because so many people hate the man that they will do the opposite of what he says. and that's the problem with america today...too many people blindly follow/hate the president that they can't see through their hatred/allegiance at the good/bad that he has done. he has done good things, he has done shitty things...just like every damn president, but for some reason, people don't care. it's either trump great or trump bad...it's sad that people are so closed minded nowadays

  42. They may not have an option. Not only will visiting teams not want to make that flight, but its becoming more probable that the state of Hawaii will not let them in. This week the state has extended their strict 'two week quarantine' for visitors from the mainland until September, with plans to keep extending the quarantine until the pandemic passes.
