Hey all, just dropping by to say Congrats on taking the conference and good luck in the tournament! We haven’t forgotten, cheers!🍻 🙂 https://www.vcuramnation.com/forums/threads/the-official-beat-the-university-of-north-texas-mean-green-eagles-thread.18328/post-95448415 points

I disagree. He does have something special figured out. He has something special figured out in how he treats people, most importantly his players. I’ve sat behind or near behind the bench for three years now. I’ve never seen players take such an ass chewing for not doing their job with better attitudes. They believe in him and I’ve never seen more love and respect between coach and player at NT than I have seen with this group. Rick10 points

Co-Player of the WeekJAVION HAMLET, NORTH TEXASRedshirt Junior, 6-4, 191, G, Memphis, Tennessee Hamlet led North Texas to its first regular season league title in 31 years by averaging 19.5 points, 8.5 assists with a 2.8 assist/turnover ratio and 5.0 rebounds in a pair of Group 1 victories at FIU and against WKU in the Super Pit. In the win over the Toppers, Hamlet led all scorers with 25 points and nine assists in a seesaw bout that saw the Mean Green capture the C-USA regular-season title. North Texas scored 30 points in the final five minutes of each half and the overtime period combined; Hamlet was responsible by either scoring or assisting on 22 of the 30 points. It is Hamlet’s second career C-USA weekly award (1-27-20208 points

I would go protest in front of the offices of Hamlet doesn’t win POTY, Bell win 6th man, and Coach McCasland Coach of the year5 points

And to paraphrase former Mean Green coach Bill Blakely, if Grant McCasland isn't named CUSA Coach of the Year, there is no justice in America. Win in Frisco GO MEAN GREEN5 points

So this whole time Hunter was making all the noise when his dad was actually going to be making the decision? What a weird dynamic. I am all for small business but if this is such a big staple of Denton (I’ve never eaten there) wouldn’t people follow them to a better and nicer location?4 points

Holy moly a NT thread made it past 30 pages on another opponent's board. EDIT: Rammad will downplay this by reminding everyone this is a down year for CUSA.4 points

We're still playing to get the highest seed possible in the NCAA Tournament. To me it's simple, everyone plays.4 points

Bell's size and athleticism is going to be really special on both ends of the floor. Shout out to Smart for being a true team player, what a class act. GMG3 points

I'd like to see 15-20 minutes each for Smart, J. Simmons and Draper...we're likely going to be mostly a 6 man rotation in the conference tournament/beyond, but it'd be nice for those three to have some good game minutes and maybe confidence if needed. also maybe design a few added minutes of Gibson on the ball...the offense tends to sleep without Hamlet and Mo just hangs out on the perimeter when he's in as the 2. Gibson isn't the play-maker and facilitator Hamlet is at the 1, but he's so quick and can get to and finish at the cup. could probably get away with a small line for a few minutes with Mo as a selfish 1, Bell and Jamiah attacking the rim and Smart and DJ spotting up for kick outs.3 points

The 2010 team was great. I was a student in the rowdy pit crew at the time, but I think this team beats them by 5-8 points. Josh White vs Javion Hamlet would be a fun fun matchup. I do think Odufawa and Tramiel would beat Simmons and Geu. Overall this team plays a bit better defense, and McCasland and Staff would out coach Jones and staff (and I love me some Johnny Jones)2 points

Because in tournament play your rotation condenses. Your top guys play as many minutes as they can, and the rotational guys get whatever is left. Regular season is a marathon, single-elimination tournament games are sprints, or something like that.2 points

That guard from UTSA will be considered for POTY but he’s one of the most selfish players I’ve ever seen and he doesn’t play good defense.2 points

I love seeing his constant coaching of the guys even when things look bleak. He’s just always on and he gets those guys to believe. GMG2 points

I wasn't necessarily asking about rest because I thought they needed it...more so that I was afraid of an injury in a somewhat non-necessary game.2 points
-
Who wants rust? In my mind, I'm thinking we play this game to win, and you don't start thinking about rest until about 10 minutes left depending on how the game is unfolding.2 points

I wish they'd put the seed numbers with the bracket so you could draw out how everything could go. http://conferenceusa.com/documents/2019/9/9//bkbch20_brackets.pdf?id=136802 points

Charlotte is playing to get a bye, so I seriously doubt we rest the starters that much. Not to mention, why would you want a starter rusty going into a 7 day lay off before a quarterfinal2 points

Woolridge's junior year at NT, third team all conference. Hamlet junior year at NT, will be first team all conference and favorite for conference MVP.2 points

Tony Benford had 62 wins in his tenure. McCasland can tie that and probably beat that number this year. He has 61 wins to date.2 points

I would think they'll utilize this bracket: If so, and current seeding holds, I love our chances against either UAB/FAU in the quarterfinals, and I like FIU in the Semis, but I DON'T like the thought of playing a hot, confident, Rice team if they happen to get by both Charlotte & FIU.1 point

anyone know of a way to watch a replay of the game? id like to hear the commentators take during the game1 point

Big congrats to the Mean Green fans that have been waiting for this for awhile. Not a win over us. I’m talking about winning the regular season crown. That’s one hella accomplishment this year. The conference isn’t as good at the top as it was 3 years ago when Middle, ODU, Marshall, and Western were all top 100. But....there are basically no gimmes this year. You have to bring your game every single night. So very impressive job by your squad. I said on our board and CUSA board awhile back of all the teams I’d seen this year in conference you guys were best and La Tech was right there with you. The rest of us can win games but I thought you two were at the top and nothing I’ve seen since has changed my mind on it. Do we have a chance to win the tourney? We do but then again we could easily take a loss in the first game in the tourney as well. Even when we had Bassey I thought we could win any game on our schedule but also thought there wasn’t a single game on the schedule I would have marked down as a gimme. Once we lost him we’re the size of a decent high school team. I’ve been amazed at the games we’ve won. I’ve never thought much of Stans as a bench coach and he still drives me nuts but he’s done a decent job with this group. Him adding a press to this group has really helped us. It turns teams over some but what it mainly does is shortens the time a team can get in its offense. Because if they have time they have a pretty easy job of scoring on us in straight up defense. I met Tasty Greek and his boys several years back and know there are a lot of huge hoops fans at UNT so I just wanted to drop by and congratulate you bunch on a job very well done.1 point
