Probably not the proper forum, but I have to post anyway. My daughter just got accepted to UNT! She will be a Freshman next fall. She is also trying out for the North Texas Dancers in June and will study Psychology. So proud to see her following in the old man’s footsteps. She has been a member of the Mean Green Nation since birth, now it’s official! GMG.37 points

Just to give you guys an update. X-rays came back negative but his ribs are still sore. Ribs are still a little sore. He will try to workout and play against Rice.3 points

Congrats. She'll have a great college experience. Here's another story about the growth of the Mean Green Nation. I live up here in Newtown, CT (small New England town) and my daughter started at North Texas last year. The very first student from Newtown High School to go to UNT according to the schools's Naviance system! So, last Friday night we were having dinner at our local Indian restaurant, it was cold so there was only one other couple at a table next to us. We're regulars there so we know all the staff and asked where everyone was, etc. and they said it was all takeout orders that night. Anyway, the couple at the next table was paying their check with the server and I swear I hear the woman say "North Texas." So, my head snaps around and I say, "excuse me, but did you just say 'North Texas?'" She says, "yes, our son goes to school there, he's a freshman." WTH? Anyway we talked for almost 20 minutes. They were both Univ of Georgia graduates and really wanted him to go there. They were surprised when he came home one day and told them he wanted to go to UNT. They were like, what? Where's that? They attended orientation with him and were genuinely surprised about how nice the school was and were very complementary about UNT after the visit. They must have said, "it's a really beautiful campus" a half a dozen times. High praise from Georgia alums as the Georgia campus is supposed to be very nice (I've never been there). I asked what made him want to go to UNT and they said it was from watching Youtube videos of the UNT Drum Line at games and various competitions and exhibitions. He's a drummer, but not a music major. So now there's two students from Newtown High School attending UNT.3 points

Congrats! I never knew you were a UNT Dancer. That is fantastic she is following your lead in that!!!3 points

She said something offensive....and she lost her job. So what are they protesting? Did she not lose her job hard enough?3 points

Frankly I love the stadium and the layout. Game day experience has really gotten a lot better the last couple of years! Obviously this piece is not accurate. Maybe they should consider season tickets, park right next to the entrance! Maybe even tailgate some before the game if they want! #GMG3 points

UNTlifer you have been correct all season about Shorter as the fastest guy on the team. This summer they clocked him at 24 MPH in the 60 yard with a GPS tracking. Just a side note for you2 points
-
Depends how he (and the team) finishes the season out. I hope we can torch Rice next weekend but they've been stingy all season and played a lot of good teams close. UAB doesn't seem to have the same defense they had last year. It's a shame it's taken most of the season for the offense to get going (minus the debacle at La Tech).2 points

My pre-season prediction of a 12-0 season, a conference championship, a bowl win, and seeing Mason Fine named as the 2019 Heisman winner is looking less and less likely.2 points
-
Only way to reverse that shit is to win. Only way to win and win championships is by building from a defense-first mentality. Since selling our soul to the offensive gods in 2007 we’re 58-101 with zero championships. DEFENSE! Rick2 points

Once again, Mason is a great player, but this "once in a lifetime" and "generational player" talk is way premature. Sure, some things probably are. He basically started all 4 years. It may be a while before we have that again. He is an incredible underdog story, ultimately becoming what will probably be a top 30 all time NCAA passer. We may not get another one of those for a long time because it pretty much requires starting all four years. But I refuse to believe we will never have another elite quarterback.2 points

UH was very good in football and basketball in the 60 and 70s, which made the SWC have to give them a look. Also, Rice was dying on the vine in Houston, so the SWC wanted to pro up that market. In DFW, you had TCU and SMU already and we got good just after UH got admitted and the privates saw how successful UH was right away, so adding us was a non-starter. What drives me insane to this day is that Hayden Fry/North Texas only limited themselves to the SWC. The Big Eight would have been the perfect conference for us to join and help grow into Texas. At the time, OU was the only team that played annually here in Texas. The Big Eight getting into DFW would’ve been massive and might have made the SWC think twice. We could have been playing OU, Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, missouri, etc...as conference mates. But instead, we were told no, Hayden left, and we basically gave up. And that’s how you end up like this, desperately hanging on to FBS status, but well below the UHs of the world, who are miles below the teams of the Big 12.2 points

It’s yet another way we see the uphill road we have to walk to be relevant in this area, much less state or region. The SWC media legacy around here is still strong. I’ve never seen a group more interested in seeing a team succeed like they all do with SMU. It’s like they feel bad that they brought them down for cheating and they got the Death Penalty for it and never recovered for decades. Meanwhile, this same group of people thinks we are super spare to even have a football program and that we most be spat upon at ANYTHING we achieve. Seriously, Apogee is about 10x nicer than Ford Stadium. It’s one of the best G5 stadiums around. Until this piece of shit article, I’ve never heard anyone say a bad thing about Apogee, especially if they ever had to sit down at Fouts for a game, which was the worst stadium in America, bar none.2 points
-
This is absolutely ridiculous. If they were talking about Fouts that would be one thing, but Apogee? Apogee is one of the finest around, especially when it's full and loud. This is very biased.2 points

Mason isn't getting drafted, IMO. He had a chance, if we had been able to protect him and given him the defensive help to win more games and put up the kind of gaudy numbers he did in a few games this year. He would have had to be in the national conversation, both through wins and numbers. For reference, Minshew won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award, broke Jared Goff's Pac12 passing yardage record, won 11 games, was the Pac12 Offensive Player of the Year, and finished 5th in Heisman voting. He went in the 6th round.2 points

Because we've whiffed on OLine recruiting for years, and we don't have the correct OL coach to make lemonade out of lemons. Plain & simple. EDIT: The interior linemen have been OK. Tackles (outside of Mayfield) have not.2 points

As much as I love Mason, for some reason it is hard for me to see him being drafted. I really hope he does, but I think a lot of teams are going to be concerned about durability.2 points

http://dallas.culturemap.com/news/city-life/11-12-19-unt-apogee-worst-college-football-stadiums-moneywise/ I see the SMU loving media is still looking for ways to 💩 on North Texas. Not sure I agree with any of this other than the attendance numbers. Parking has been better than most of the C-USA stadiums I've visited this year and many other P5 stadiums I've been to. That article is actually genius....could result in a sell out. However, it shows a bigger picture issue with college sports and sports in general. And Navy is ranked....it's not like this is a spare non conference game...1 point

Biased, yeah, but also just NO research done. Take this for example: "The Mean Green lose more than half their home games, though their overall season records have improved since 2015, when they went a dismal 1 and 11." It takes a quick Wikipedia search to find out the Mean Green's record at Apogee is 34-15, and I think that's even a few wins outdated...1 point

A fake P5 offer? You sure about that or is that just your hot sports opinion. Did he force WB to offer a raise and extension or did WB see value in SL had just make that offer? "We should treat him like he treated us?" What in the world does that mean. He didn't treat us poorly, he investigated an opportunity. He never said a bad word about us, people on here act like he abandoned the team during bowl prep, yet not one player has said anything negative about our coaching staff. All of these comments are pure speculation. The senior class this year was is from a low ranked recruiting class the year he arrived when he had roughly a month to throw a class together. I have gone through the other obstacles he had to work through when he arrived, and last year's and this current year's recruiting classes reflect that. Going from a class ranking in the range of 110 in the nation to the high 50's this year is pretty remarkable. I believe he deserves the opportunity to see this class through their senior season unless their is a catastrophic drop off in performance. Different opinions.1 point

I would recommend that all of you find a copy of Vito's pre-season football magazine that was in the Denton Record Chronicle. Talks about recruiting and what an asset Walerius and Shelby have been, talks about changing the culture (yes, SL did change the culture of the program), what the program has had to overcome, SL's personal admittance that he is still growing as a head coach, Fine's comments about how most freshmen are scared of SL because of his quiet and intense demeanor, etc...1 point

Forgot to post in here a few weeks ago when I coached against him but the kid is a stud. Played well defensively and housed one on us when they threw him in at Wildcat QB. Went out of his way to be a good sport to our coaches and admin after a tough loss for him too. Scuttlebutt is that Tech is snorting around though.....1 point

VCU wins by two. Yes, it would be better if NT had not been beat by Arkansas. Arkansas did not completely annihilate NT, the game was much like the VCU game. Until NT got in deep foul problem and Arkansas went into attack mode and won on free throws. They got a lot of free throws, but a bigger problem was that NT defense suffered in the last 10 minutes because NT was afraid of giving them more. So that Arkansas got a lot of easy shots, has NT played off. I would like to see NT play Arkansas at a neutral site, I think the outcome would be a lot different.1 point

3. Minute Rice (0-9) If you've ever prepared Minute Rice, then you know that you have to keep an eye on it. It has to be pulled from the stove at just the right moment or in an instant it will go from perfectly cooked to a hot, wet mess. After a season-long simmer, it's time to keep our eyes on the Owls, who will finish the season with three contests against opponents with losing records, including the annual Bottom 10 Bowl season finale against ... Boxes of Minute Rice cost $1.99 at Kroger. Can everyone going to the game bring a box to hold up? Make sure to buy the white rice to represent Rice University...1 point

Why do we grace sites like this with the clicks they so desperately want?1 point

This is just crazy. The article is a rehash of another article. And the premise of the original is a stadiums "value" is directly tied to attendance and nothing else. Based on that, the smaller the stadium the higher the "value!" It doesn't take into account any kind of financials beyond straight ticket sales and even gets those wrong by making the assumption all of the seats are the same "value."1 point

I don't think we'll be that bad. Lunardi has us as next 4 out right now. We made the NIT last year and wouldn't surprise me if we did again this year but Musselman is a better coach than Anderson was and Isaiah Joe-Mason Jones should be one of the best guard combos in the SEC. We have finished higher than projected almost every single year in the last decade. We'll get better once we get our starting center back from suspension too. It's still early. We beat a Rice team by 48 who beat Penn, who beat Alabama. I was impressed with your defense and there will be nights when your shots fall better than they did last night. If you judge the whole season based on results from the first few games then Kentucky will be lucky to make the tournament.1 point
