This is the quality sh*tpost I've come expect in the Mean Green offseason. I'm just surprised it took this long.6 points

At the same time they are spending funds on esports, they are defunding a program that actually serves an academic purpose. The Debate team, that has existed for over 100 years and has won a National Championship, has over the last few years seen funding drop and has been informed that the program will no longer be funded in 3 years.5 points

DRC: Walerius could also be attractive for Power Five schools looking to upgrade programs https://dentonrc.com/sports/unt-summer-questions-series-no----can-unt/article_49e401c4-3086-5b12-be77-f606a1b78e62.html3 points

It's pretty uncommon, even in HS. Uniforms are assigned and issued for a reason and most directors require them to wear their uniform on game days. It should be the standard expectation.3 points

Briles: "what a fool... she reporting to authorities." Briles: "What kind of discipline... she a stripper?" Briles: "Hopefully he's under the radar enough they won't recognize name." Briles: "Those are some bad dudes. Why was she around those guys?" Briles: "We need to get your name cleared ... always all in with my players." (He changed his mind and opted not to show up at this player's trial)3 points

So, is he just going to camps this summer? I dont see a problem with that... Is FSU recruiting him or is that something cool they do for guys at camp (putting on the uni and all)? From his twitter, it looks like hes going to a few camps. The rest of his stuff looks very Mean Green to me. Also, I am sure Seth and Co are keeping in touch often through all this.3 points

Ya I guess he does have a point. Rico will get drafted if he can stay healthy. Fine should get drafted if he can stay healthy. We should win CUSA if we can stay healthy.3 points

No...he has a point, I know the fan base is drooling right now but he comes to North Texas with a torn ACL and concussion problems. Still a great transfer with lots of upside but to say he doesn’t have some risk? 🤨3 points

Oof my man, the world does not need more people shutting themselves indoors away from the real world. Those traits may apply to people who play video games, I play them too! But in the world of competitive gaming you are all in, how many hours a day are these guys playing to get any good? It should be a club sport...scholarship money should be set aside for other things. With all do respect, I feel this money could be better spent.3 points

My point exactly. Respect isn't given, it is earned.2 points

Understand, but more and more of these kids give the "respect my decision" or similar and these go out and continue to look. Respect goes both ways. And please before you give me the "he's a 17/18 year old and let him enjoy" - I agree and would have no problem with him saying how he enjoyed the camps, but if your going to make commitments (guess I'm old school) don't turn around a few days later and say how much you would like to "continue" learning from them in the future. Say what you want, but he is still shopping for what he considers a "better" offer.2 points

Not a Briles fan and not defending him because I know he didn't have control of his program, but I don't think he was accused of any sexual assaults. Also, I doubt he's going to be recruiting any bad characters to Mt. Vernon, so I think the women and children will be safe. He's gone from head coach at a Big 12 school to head coach at a 3A school. He was making upwards of $4 million a year now he's making probably around $60K. Not to mention his reputation is obviously shot. Plus, he's 63 years old so I doubt this is a stepping stone to getting back to a major college job. He's paid a hefty price for his "crimes" and rightfully so. The sad part and the hypocrisy is that Mt. Vernon will probably have greater attendance numbers at their football games next year than any 3A school in Texas.2 points

Please remind me, what was Briles convicted of? Seems more and more we live in a time of Guilty unless proven innocent. Don't get me wrong, I don't care for the man, but as a society, we are getting to the point where we want to be the judge and jury and pass sentences on what someone should be able to do the rest of their lives. I guess a lot of you on here are very careful of the shows, movies, music, and professional sports you watch and listen to since so many in those industries have been accused of crimes.2 points

There is a strong push by one party to allow trans-males to compete in women's sports if that is how they see themselves. Brings up some questions - If a male competes on a women's team, does he count as a "male" or "female" for Title 9 requirements? If gender does not matter, should T9 be eliminated? These might sound like stupid questions, but sometime soon you could see more and more transgender males competing in Women's sports. At some point after that there will be a group that is saying women are not being represented equally.1 point

I was looking at the all time football recruits for North Texas according to 24/7. Mason Fine, Jeffery Wilson and Zach Orr were so far down the list, it was ridiculous. Hint, it's easier to start at the bottom to get to those guys sooner. That goes to show that giving stars to players do not necessarily give a great indication of how well they will perform at the next level. https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Sport/Football/AllTimeRecruits/1 point

This is huge when you can get 4 star recruits. I know he may be a retread, but the fact that he chose to come to UNT says to me that we are trending in the right direction. Pretty soon we will get 4 star guys right out of high school and won't have to take guys who are transferring. If things keep going this way and we keep winning, we will have to start looking seriously at coaches salaries. Right now, IMO North Texas is becoming very attractive and P5 schools are going to come very hard after what we have. With a student body and alumni base as large as ours, there is no reason why we cannot compete with P5 schools. Especially the ones on the smaller side. However, I know we have a long way to go to energize an apathetic alumni base. I think we are starting to sell the new students. It's the older students and alumni that we need to get on board.1 point

Want to get football players worth a damn? Abandon this thought process. There is SO MUCH MORE North Texas has to offer. What you described is more of a UTSA or UTEP pitch.1 point

All I’m saying is that e-sports is not going to leap frog traditional sports any time soon. If you are one of those people that points out the video game industry as this wide open market with lots of growth potential, you are wrong. It’s been taken over by pay to win titles and platforms so chill. It’s a niche market at best and I would argue does not deserve SCHOLARSHIP MONEY at North Texas.1 point
-
Uh...no...I’ll push back on that. If you look at the schools that actually sponsor e-sports it’s a who’s who of nobody institutions. Secondly, it doesn’t take a millennial to realize you don’t need a scholarship to be good at video games. This is a marketing ploy. To call it shrewd is respectfully laughable1 point
