In 2011, when I was a freshman at UNT, in the NEW Apogee Stadium, I remember thinking that the first win of the season against Indiana was the greatest thing to happen. My first UNT win I experienced as a student was against a Big Ten team. It felt so good. I went to a High School that had a joke of a football team and we went 0-10 my senior year. So to experience a win was amazing Going on to see Lance Dunbar break several records against MTSU on a cold December game was just as fun and I thought 5 wins was great. Dan was the man! 2013 was just as fun. I mean we won a bowl game, but were in every game we lost. A few things go our way against Ohio, Tulane, and UTSA and we really could have seen a 11-1 season, 12-1 with a bowl win. However, it was just great to be at a bowl game. 2014 was a letdown and then 2015 was well 1-11. It was a low seeing us lose to Portland State and being there for my last undergrad game against UTEP in front of an almost empty Apogee Stadium was sad to say the least. Here we are in 2018 with two amazing years with Seth Littrell that we’ve built on. 4-0 to start the year and riding high. Losing to La Tech really hurt. I don’t know where I felt so entitled to win every game this year and if we didn’t, why it would be the end of the world? When did I all of a sudden change to not appreciate the ride we were on? Being 4-1 is amazing. We were a bad football team just 3 years ago. We got blasted by UTEP in 2016 and were given a handout bowl to the Heart of Dallas Bowl. I was more than lucky to be there too. Happy to be going to a bowl in New Orleans last year. Taking a look in the mirror really woke me up to appreciate all that’s going on in North Texas right now. Our athletics department is killing it in ALL sports right now. We are growing and taking on a wealth of new challenges. We have one of the best recruiting classes in the country right now and all our stars on offense should be returning next year. Now is the best we have ever been. I love North Texas and being a member of the Mean Green Alumni! GMG!32 points

Just wanted to stop by and thank everyone for a fantastic experience this weekend. Saturday night marked my first trip to Apogee Stadium--what a great place. I knew Apogee was a fairly new stadium, but I did not expect the incredible atmosphere as a whole. Even at the end of the first quarter when it looked like Tech was going to get boat-raced, I remarked to my brother that this was "still a helluva way to spend a Saturday night." If the facilities weren't impressive enough, I was truly shocked at how loud those 30,000 sounded during the "North Texas" chant. To cap it off, a lot of great, green-clad folks clapped me on the back with a "good game" and chatted me up a bit. Great stadium, great people. You guys should be proud. We'll see you guys in Ruston next year.13 points

As another TECH fan, I second this sentiment. Awesome environment. Y’all have a lot to proud of. Good luck the rest of the year.11 points

Don't remove the wing. Ever. It is iconic, and is adding to UNT tradition. It is a billboard for UNT athletics in media and for people who pass it on I35.8 points

A good deed needs to be publicly acknowledged. I mis-read the instructions on how to get the Mean Joe key chain and instructed family that they would be available at the end of the IPF groundbreaking (doesn't make any sense, I know). We say Kyle from Tickets and a couple of others setting up some tables at the end of the ground breaking so I hung in for a few more minutes before having to run back to my tailgate to join those I was hosting, then ran back to make it to the statue unveiling at 4. I missed the key chain give away and so did my son and a friend....my fault. Jim Plummer got an extra and as we were talking about the cool game day giveaways, he asked if I got one. Jim gave me his extra, and I am eternally grateful to Jim. Thanks amigo. Still haven't decided if I am going to give it to #1 son. GMG6 points

Just wanted to quote myself and say that I heard from my wife that the A&M grads had such a great time, we’re really into the game, and they are likely going to attend at least one more home game this year. I think a lot of the doom and gloom about how we lost in front of a record crowd we’ll be back to 21k attendance is a little over blown.5 points

As good as he is, I don't believe that Hall's injury was the most critical loss in this game. Cam Johnson came in and got six solo tackles which is as good as any DB has done this year. The most critical mistake/injury was the muffed punt. With only 38 seconds to go in the half, why do you take a chance of fielding a punt on your six yard line? As it turned out, six seconds later they had a lead which we could never overcome.5 points

Others have tried to force the idea of a “Rivalry” with SMU & UTSA. don’t get me wrong, I can’t stand either of them, but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if we never saw them again. But Bard’s post is great. Respectful, and didn’t gloat as a winner. THIS is the kinda rivalry I love. Tech and UNT are similar type programs. We beat them at home last year, they returned the favor. I like that that they’re only 3 hours away, but it’s a different state. Always nice people when I meet some of them. This conference could use more Techs. Thanks Bard. Congrats on your win. We’ll see you down the road.5 points

We got beat by our equal. Tech band is the best to visit Denton - has a bit of SEC stands showmanship in them. After the rage I reflect on one of the best September’s ever. Thank you MG. hello October. GMG4 points

Took me about 35 minutes to get out of the orange lot, but once I was out of the lot, I was heading north on 35 in no time. What was worse to me was the pile-up of people trying to walk across the bridge. You were literally taking about one step every five seconds until you actually got on the bridge. That being said, it's a good problem to have. I'd rather have 30K at the game and take 30-45 minutes to get out than 20K (or less) and get out in 15-20 minutes4 points

If you want to blame questionable play calling, it wasn’t in the 4th quarter when you’re playing against the clock. It was in the 2nd quarter, when we tried to move away from the run that was so successful in every other quarter. But thats only “if” you want to blame the play calling. Personally, I think there were several breakdowns on offense, defense and special teams so there’s plenty of blame to go around. However, I’m ready to reset too. We’re still backing a great team. This is still a very special team and a very special time in Mean Green football history. I’m just going to sit back and cherish it and enjoy every game possible.4 points

I saw more people and a bigger crowd at the unveiling than I witnessed in some home football games at Fouts back in the day. Thank you Wren Baker and Seth Littrell. I also thought it was super classy of Wren (and very appropriate I might add) for Wren to acknowledge Rick V and the part he played in getting this statue project to become a reality. In fact, if you look on the donor plaque for the statue you will see Rick V and his wife's names...and not at the lowest level of donation either. Very classy...very classy. As Wren said...it was a" very good day to be us" in spite of the close loss to La Tech.4 points

Do you guys just sit at home and jerk off to pictures of apogee with fans in the stands? They played their asses off and it was a great event to attend. I guarantee nobody left and said to themselves that this is the same old UNT losing football games. We’re 4-1 and any person who thinks this is classic UNT football is an idiot.4 points

Per the new redshirt rule, you can still redshirt after playing any 4 games in the season period, not necessarily the first 4 games. At least that's how I understand it3 points

A major component of a rivalry is playing important games and ripping each other's hearts out (not literally). We are building that with La Tech. SMU will always be a rivalry based on location but we could be building a real rivalry with La Tech.3 points

Curious to know why so many people are in favor of eliminating the wing in favor of making it a bowl? With a bowl you would be just as far if not further from the action. Why would anyone find this more appealing? The current wing does not fill up because people have some lack of desire to sit there.... it’s because there are always empty seats else where. To me, removing the wing zone and making it a bowl just seems like spending money for the sake of spending money.3 points

...is embarrassing. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but when, at home, our QB has to flail his arms trying to quiet the crowd (on a crucial 2 point conversion no less) and the crowd gets even louder, that gets to the point of being detrimental. If we need to play a pregame video reminding the crowd of proper offense cheering etiquette, so be it.3 points

We need a larger video screen period. Have you seen Oklahoma States? Yes, I know they are Big 12 but if you can put a larger one at Apogee why would conference affiliation even matter? I do like the veranda being used for more seating if that’s what they are going to do. Why do we have the propensity to make things smaller up there? Is our school’s enrollment shrinking or is this merely all those decades of OldDenton group think in play? (Go for it anonymous keyboard warriors). ❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌ GMG!3 points

I don't think it's about keeping things from the fan base or donors, it's about keeping things from opposing coaches who will attack whatever weaknesses they find.3 points

Finally an opening line for Saturday: UNT -25.5. I assume this means Mason is playing.2 points

For those at the game apparently the angle you saw made the 2 point conversion look good. However, the television replay clearly shows it was short by a foot or two. If you want to complain about the refs, don't use this play. They got it right. Edit: how does this get downvotes? Geez ... don't kill the messenger.2 points

Yes to this. I remember getting score updates on the Portland st. game (that was my senior year) and feeling so disappointed. I got to experience the HOD bowl, but it felt like 2 steps forward 6 steps after losing to an FCS team so badly. 3 years later we're disappointed for not going undefeated.2 points

We're still in the official 48 hour mourning period, so that was painful. Low trajectory, but we need to get Jordan Murray out there on opponent's kicks to try and return the favor2 points

Reminded me of the 1990 season: Last game of the regular season against against Northeast Louisiana. Winner goes to the I-AA playoffs. Last play of the game we have a chip shot field goal to win and they came right up the middle and blocked it. It was gut wrenching.2 points

Why, as a fan, do you need minute by minute updates on injuries? Not knowing a player’s injury status has no influence on my support of this team. Im all for keeping that information out of the press. Opponent coaches don’t need to know that either.2 points
