It’s football not politics or an academic decathlon. Sweet Jeebus, relax.5 points

And Jesse Owens would have never made history in front of that POS Hitler. Then again, comparing Liberty U. to the Nazis is ridiculous and over the top.4 points

Yes! This is from the email I received from Claudia Taylor of the Alumni Association: We *finally* have a date for Houston Coaches Caravan! TUESDAY, JUNE 12, from 6-8 p.m. Unfortunately Karbach didn't have that date available (boo), so we are going with Saint Arnold Brewing Co, 2000 Lyons Ave. Registration should be up soon; when it is, I'll share the link in our Facebook group so you can share it with your friends there if you want to! Our marketing director will also send out an email invite to Houston-area alums. I'd love to get at least 50 people there, so if you know any alums or UNT fans who might like to come, please invite them to join us! It's a pretty good deal - for 5 bucks you get food, drinks and all the UNT tchotchkes you can handle. 🙂 You can also walk up and buy a ticket at the event.3 points

Didn't see this posted yet. Great read for any football fan to get inside the mind of an NFL linebacker as he diagnoses plays pre-snap...even better read as at fellow NT alumn. Proud of the career he's forged and the intellect demonstrated by this piece is a huge reason why he's been so successful.2 points

I dont think the dorm should have named after Joe Greene because of his race. The new resident hall should be proud to have his name on the building because he is and has been a great asset to the University of North Texas. He truly has been a great ambassador for UNT. For that reason he deserves a building name after him. He was the best choice no matter his race. I see him at football games and at events but I have never gone up and talked to him. I figure it happens all the time to him so I like to give him his space. I am proud he is part of the Mean Green family. UNT owes him this and so much more. Hats off to the people who nominated him and voted for him. GMG2 points

Possibly to give a local business a piece of the financial action in hosting such an event? I know I would. Would help strengthen local relationships.2 points

I’m glad they mix it up. There have been so many of these types of things on the club level already. Gotta keep these fresh!1 point

I’m just glad a DENTON Caravan stop was announced. I would think this would be the best attended event on the tour. I understand they’re looking for a canteen. Don’t understand why the Club at Apogee wouldn’t be the logical choice. This would be a good opportunity to see the new field turf. Ill be there.1 point

Hmmm. Not looking for ponies at a UNT camp. If somebody is a pony he can go lose down in Dallas, what UNT needs is some real high flyers who can claw and scratch.1 point

The turf got a mention on the ticket this morning. They talked about the benefit to the players and how we were the only one in the state that had it. Also mentioned the other big-name schools across the country who are using it.1 point

Before RV became AD, the only new dedicated building constructed for athletics since my freshman year of 1961 was the 3000 sq.ft. one story west of the Super Pitt built during Hayden Fry's tenure. We went over 40 years without putting a dime into bricks and sticks so its no wonder we are behind in the arms race. Whatever we do will just put us on a level playing field, much like the new stadium, not give us any advantage.1 point

Once the track stadium is complete, basketball offices are done, IPF is done, and athletic center is expanded, I don't think UNT lands that far from the ones you mentioned above. It takes a little time to pull everything together. This administration seems to be determined to do things the right way, which includes refreshes to facilities sooner than later (see athletic center upgrades, basketball practice facility refresh, locker room refreshes, etc.). I think the refresh piece is the piece that was missed by the last administration. It always took too long. Lobbies, locker rooms, public spaces, etc. should all be refreshed every 3 to 5 years, IMHO. That's a big part of getting longer lives out of buildings and preventing them from feeling so dated. It looks like things are heading in the right direction under current university leadership.1 point

I appreciate her time here. She brought in some good talent. But there is no excuse for a D1 college softball program in the DFW area, especially one of only two that exists...to not be a stable and steady competitor. Im really excited and looking forward to seeing who WB brings in. Rick1 point

Thanks. I'll dig into this more later. Some initial thoughts: 1) Yeah, I've heard about our locker rooms 2) You can't just remove Apogee. We have it! 3) Lol Idaho, really? (again, I'll check this out)1 point

What ever your views on leaving the Army series, I find it amusing that we are knocking Liberty for not being a recognizable name team. LIberty fans are probably saying the same thing..'get us an opponent with name recognition.' As to a religious element in scheduling Liberty, I think you are reading far too much into the AD's motives. It's a done deal and now we just need to hope (and pray?) that we don't get beat by Liberty.1 point

Beaten fan syndrome...It's contagious and helpless. I have come to learn that expectations are very sporadic and on a very wide spectrum around these parts, almost on an individual to individual basis. The people with the average to above average expectations have to set them in concrete and hunker down, because the hand grenades are going to be thrown over the wall by the beaten fans with a "how dare you" attitude. As for the "mega" camp, it's only mega in name. However, I do like the fact that we are hosting so it could be opportunistic for UNT for the reasons that some posters have stated.1 point

Both. Army is a quality football program & a great academic institution. Liberty is neither.-1 points
-
Exchanging Army for Liberty was a heart breaker for me and, we may never know the real reason it was done. I don't think it has anything whatsoever to do with the style of play. My first thought was that there must be some sort of personal/religious sentiment on the part of the athletic director but, that's pure speculation.-1 points
-
Speculation - yes, but it would explain the behavior.-1 points

If playing winnable games is the most important criterion let's just drop back to the Southland. Better still the Lone Star Conference would provide a great opportunity to go undefeated.-1 points
-
I hate that my university is associating in any way, shape, or form with Liberty. Schedule TCU, BYU, or SMU all you want. Those schools are religious but they're not embracing and advancing pseudoscience.-1 points

Harry, you rascal! You started this just to give us something to talk about. Talk all you want. It's a done deal. Let's move on.-1 points

If you compare our current facilities (remove Apogee) for a football program, its pretty embarrasing. Yes the new Indoor and expansions will help, but I don't think we are anywhere near where we need to be. Southern Miss Football Locker Room Unveiled to the Players! - YouTube C-USA: UAB Blazers Practice Facility Tour - YouTube New UH Football Locker Room - YouTube WMU Broncos Football Facilities Tour at Waldo Stadium - YouTube http://govandals.com/facilities/ https://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2017/06/more_wins_elite_facilities_awa.html http://footballscoop.com/news/video-tour-the-ragin-cajuns-new-athletic-performance-center/ http://tulanegreenwave.com/sports/2016/6/13/facilities-tul-facilities-html.aspx Just a few I thought of quickly off the top of my head. I didn't put SMU in here because they have Money we could only dream of having, but their facilities blow ours away also. We don't have a big draw for a recruit. They have done a good job of renovating what they had previously no doubt, but we need the indoor and the other phases to be done ASAP and to be done top notch. Also look at our weight room/training room compared to these places also. More than just the nice stadium that we see, its where these kids spend 75-80 percent of their day.-1 points

I found this article interesting: https://www.chronicle.com/article/Why-Are-Black-People-So/243443?cid=at&utm_source=at&utm_medium=en&elqTrackId=e975fdaf96f34b2c809d7c5e01ade60d&elq=d0a83d294c87425c835e943014d578de&elqaid=19131&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=8667 This is about an internal survey which asks members of the university community to respond to questions such as - "why are black people so loud?" or "Do Muslim women wear the hajib in the shower?". They intend to have members of the SMU minority community discuss the responses next Fall. The hope is that the discussion will make it easier to deal with stereotypes within the context of the SMU community.-2 points

How exactly did adding Liberty to our schedule make it possible to schedule TTU & Memphis?-2 points

Our country shouldn't have validated NAZI Germany by playing in the 1936 Olympics. Our university shouldn't validate Liberty by playing them in football.-4 points
