Most younger folks don't remember it but TCU was once just horrible in athletics - especially football. Dennis Franchione got it turned around before leaving for Alabama and Gary Patterson has kept it going since then. What some of the old time administrators at TCU will tell you is that once they started winning in football the number of kids applying to go to school at TCU went up and the ACT or SAT scores of the applicants went up. People who do not like athletics will tell you that this was just a coincidence but the people who were at TCU at that time strongly disagree. They will tell you that the positive publicity that they got from athletics had a very positive result for the school that continues to this day. The author of this article was probably in diapers when this occurred and has no idea about this type of thing at TCU - or anywhere else for that matter. Too bad..........5 points

I was going to wait until November to stop taking the FWST the "little paper". But, I am done now---they will not throw it in my yard anymore. Will cancel. They will not even give the score of a UNT game. So screw them.4 points

People like the author hate athletics at colleges. They think that it is just awful for sports to even exist on campus anywhere. This idiot cannot handle that the fee passed here. He HATES the fact that nobody will ever pay one cent to go watch a journalism class in a writing contest. Poor fellow, he should really just move away from here. Texans like sports, especially football, so it’s not like he’s going to get one ounce of change on this. He would have loved Old Denton...3 points

DRC: Walerius pleased with turnout, reaction of players after they visited UNT http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/mean-green/2018/03/07/walerius-unt-junior-day-success-program2 points

This seems pretty self explanatory. "So new recruiting coordinator, you had almost 90 guys here for the junior day. How do you think it went?" "Well Brett it was actually pure shit, but I appreciate you asking" Also can't help but see Walrus every time I see the new guys name2 points

Wow, I can't believe it went up over $500. Now I feel like I got a good deal. I figured that I've already invested $200 in annual fees, I might as well pony up the $500. Glad I did. I would have felt the exact same way as Old Guy Student, had I not.2 points

I was looking at the ARMY schedule just now and noticed they are independent. Would ARMY make a good conference mate in CUSA ? And if so, would they join if offered ? NAVY is in the American Airlines Conference and AIR FORCE is in the Mountain West. It seems odd that only one of the military academies is not in a conference. I'm told they draw well. We could use the visitor boost every other year.1 point

I talked to AState's AD and he says the AD's still don't know how much is going to ESPN3 vs ESPN+ or what sort of content is going to be on ESPN+ to help drive subscribers. Counting the conference title game, there are 41 conference games, 10 will be some flavor of ESPN but only the title game is locked to a Saturday. That's compared to last year when there were 48 conference games and 7 were locked to ESPN family. In hoops, if you are an AState game you got the home games on 3 along with road games at App, GaSt and Troy. So shifting those from 3 to + is not so swell. Under this deal it phases to all home games in hoops being on the ESPN family or + so if you are ULM fan you go from getting road games at AState, App, GaSt, Troy and sometimes ULL on 3 to everything on + so it's a clear win. The AState, App etc fans don't get that big of a win because we are already producing those games. If you already have ESPN standards compliant production then any money to help with production costs is found money. If you are ULM or Georgia Southern not producing at that standard then it's just a reimbursement for a new expense. It's basically three more linear telecasts and CUSA TV at 50% of the cost with minimum production values established until such time ESPN shows that ESPN+ is a value product.1 point

7-0 run into the half. Holmes hit her fourth 3 of the game, Bradley makes a layup in transition then steals a pass and converts another with 6 seconds left.1 point

http://fauowlaccess.com/floridaatlantic/pecoraro-new-fau-dc/8425/2018/03/06/ Interesting development. I don't remember Southern Miss's defense being spectacular, but I've slept since then.1 point

I imagine 9 out of 10 coaches would rather coach at USM (the other one is henpecked). But Kiffin is much more likely to be coaching at a P5 in 2019, potentially bringing staff members with him.1 point

We are beginning to see a few player sign ups...so far we have: Grant, Rob, Will, Emmitt, Ben, Greendylan, Kris, Thor, Randall, Rico and Vince for a total of eleven (11) players. That's a great start, but we sorely need more. Some of our "regulars" have not signed up as yet. I hope they are just waiting a bit to confirm dates. Remember, this is a co-ed event. If any ladies want to play, it is AOK and we would love to have you. Playing time is determined by yourself...play as little as you like or jump in often. No one need think they are too "out of shape" or "not good enough" at basketball to play. This is a fun game and we try to keep it that way. Also...need a couple of Captains. Andrew has informed me that he will not be playing this year as a family commitment is barring him from doing so. Andrew usually would captain a team...so, this year we are in need of two captains. Not much to being a captain other than "herding cats" a little. Just let me know. Sign-up donations link is: https://one.unt.edu/8th-annual-spring-classic1 point

Fine will practice behind Murray and will know which plays he'll have to slide one way or the other. Robert Gallery was a can't miss tackle that got moved to guard because of his footwork....it's not the end of Murray.1 point

What a coincidence Bryce! We also could definitely see you playing at North Texas for 4 years! Sounds like a match. Pull the trigger sir.1 point

They still print newspapers? Well, golly, I sure hope the folks at the retirement home don’t judge us while they read this article between bingo and jello time.1 point

The story was on the front page of their Sunday print edition and made the point that only Texas and Texas A and M did not rely on student fees and university funds to finance athletics. It quoted several students who did not seem thrilled that athletics is part of their college expenses. It was pretty slanted and pretty negative towards North Texas and other schools but I really don't think anyone pays any attention to the Star-Telegram these days. It is still available on their web site if you want to read it but it really is a waste of your time in my opinion.1 point

And It's interesting isn't it....that despite all of which you described, that coming off the heels of the first Iraq war in 1991....Army would have its greatest season in 28 years? In 1995 they went 5-5....then in 1996..Army would finish 10-2, including a 27-10 over NT ......and suffer a 3 point loss to Auburn in the Independance Bowl. And even despite the campaigns overseas in the late 2000's.....in 2010 Army went 7-6 and beat SMU in the Armed Forces Bowl. And even now..after a further decline in military numbers and things worsening overseas Army is two wins away from bowl eligibility again and sitting at 4-2. The choice of the job ahead might have something to do with it. But like everything football related..I think it's mostly coaching than anything else. And thank you for your service. Rick1 point

Makes zero sense considering our Navy and Air Force are just as involved in the U.S. Interests around the world as the Army is. Rick1 point
