  1. You are receiving down votes because you are the guy who constantly harps on "not settling" and "#oldenton", and is tired of "excuses" for everything that isn't first class and P5 worthy. However, as soon as someone asks you to help pay for those things, suddenly you have plenty of excuses of why it is not fair to ask you to pay for it. That is the most #olddenton thing ever. It is the dictionary definition of #OldDenton.

  3. Hos, specifically is this a "Money Grab"? You, yourself have called for an upgrade to everything....that cost money. I guess you could say that everything is a "Money Grab" I charge exactly what the market will bare for my products....no a penny more or less. How is this any different? The AD is raising money to provide the product we all want and have demanded for years.....there is no there there

  4. I’ll tell you why it affects me. My license plate holder is no longer valid. I have to throw away two sweatshirts, and everything mandarino worked so hard to build from the ground up just got axed in one swift obviously knee jerk decision. Plus, it’s one of the few clubs I actually belong to. What now? Rotary? Kiwanananasasas? Junior league? I have no direction.

  5. Lot of that has been going on. The "per seat" donation is really the only fair way to do this thing and I mentioned that when Apogee was first opened. Told them they were just delaying the inevitable and "kicking the can" down the road for future complaints. Also told them, why should a guy buying one ticket have to pay the same as the guy buying eight? Not very fair in my opinion and I mentioned that...to no avail. Plus, the "other" schools I am aware of that have this sort of thing have been doing the "per seat" thing from the beginning. Now, that is not to say that everyone "sharing" seat locations and buying in "bulk" were trying to "game the system", but it did work out that way for the athletic department and revenue folks none the less. Some folks buying multiple tickets were simply wanting to make sure their "group" got to sit together. Problem was that some of these folks never joined the Mean Green Club or joined at minimum levels because only one donation was required for their multiple seats....again hurting revenues. Cut it any way you like, but the "unfairness" was established the second the folks in athletics decided to not have a per seat requirement. That chicken has now come home to roost, and some folks have hard feelings about it as was predicted. Understandable. No one wants to "pay more", but that is today's reality in the "arms race" that is college football. Everyone now has to have tricked up locker rooms, indoor practice facilities, multiple sets of uniforms, new stadiums, better nutritional opportunities, expanded weight rooms, better travel conditions, etc., etc. This all costs money, and since the state cannot pay for most of this stuff, it falls to the "consumers" of the product. You want "nice things"? You have to pay for nice things. You want better coaches? You have to pay to get better coaches. You want winning football? You have to pay for winning football and that costs more and more and more money each and every year. Simply the reality of college football these days (and lots of other things as well it seems). This is hitting my pocketbook as well, so I am right there with everyone else. But, I choose to do this. No one is twisting my arm or forcing anything on me. It is all about choices and I choose the Mean Green. I hope the vast majority of our fan base feels the same way and stays with the Mean Green, but it is a choice. People get to make that choice for themselves as this all comes from limited resources (well, limited for most of us I guess). The changes have been implemented and there is not going to be any turning back from them, so decision time I suppose for all of us. Me? I will just pony up, cut somewhere else if need be, and enjoy supporting the Mean Green at Apogee as long as the good Lord allows!

  6. If it doesn't affect you, then why do you care one way or another? All I know is, the real fans of the program demanded changes to the AD and a commitment to excellence. Well, here it is. If we want to be serious players in the world of Div 1 athletics, then we have to pay up. All of us, plain and simple. Students, alumni, administration, everyone. If you're not on board, then and go and be happy doing something else. Or, put your big boy pants on and get over it.

  7. End zone is where I believe you have said you sometimes sit, which doesn't have a Mean Green Club Mean Green Scholarship Fund requirement. If this is wrong, I'm sure you'll correct me.

  8. When they made the contribution minimum change from per donor to per seat in the club last year, it was to stifle certain abuses that were taking place. I could lay down one donation, buy two seats, but effectively have rights to four seats every game at cut-rate prices. People (rightfully) didn't think that was fair, so they changed the policy. All of this, in my eyes, is disposable income expenditures on a recreational pursuit. Some day, I may feel that the expense outweighs the benefit of recreation enjoyed. If that day arrives, I will either downgrade my seating situation or I will decide that it simply isn't worth it, and I will quietly walk away. Same as I did with cable television nearly a decade ago. People wanted RV gone and got what they wanted. Now Wren is running things differently for better or for worse. To expect anything else would be futile. There are still a number of people out there who for whatever reason have such a deep seated loathing for all things UNT athletics, that Wren could be caught taking a piss in the student center men's room as opposed to his allocated private office gold plated latrine, and it would cause rage induced aneurysms. None of this is a birthright to alumni. Like at all. It is a choice -- you either think it's worth it or you don't. That's it. It you're experiencing near daily rage induced aneurysms, I'd maybe think you don't consider it worth it, and I'd be ok with that.

  9. I think they should have called them Scholar Ships. And then we could all dress like pirates. Totally a reason to walk away.

  10. Wish we had named it the North Texas Athletics Foundation, (or, Mean Green Athletics Foundation) like most other universities have. I assume a "Athletic Foundation" would serve the same purpose as a Mean Green Scholarship Fund.

  11. Huge for UNT. Hope that knee is healed up and they have put some weight on him as well. If he can come in at 210-215 that is huge, and if he can run in the 4.5s that’s a major boost in terms of getting coaches to rewatch his tape. One thing he has that most College RBs don’t have is solid/great pass blocking. Hope he can have a huge day.

  17. No, that seems like a sound decision. It is probably more valuable as an actual basketball.

  19. When you look at places like Houston, our season tickets have been a steal. I think the new system will keep people from pooling their money to game the system on the MGC donation. If I need two tickets and my buddy needs two tickets, we save $500 by buying under one name. This new way will eliminate that while making it easier on single and double ticket purchasers as far as donation requirements.

  20. But this is poo poo. I’ve follwed NT recruiting closely for a long time and it just seems like we can’t ever capitalize on a good season. I know that it’s usually the following years class that sees the uptick. But damn, when the hell are we going to start landing a class full of studs. A class full of recruits who have P5 offers. I don’t care if those offers are from Kansas, Washington State, Vanderbilt, and whoever else. We aren’t regularly beating out the La Techs of the world at this point. I know we have some decent kids onboard with this class, but I want to see an entire class of it. There’s no reason we should be getting kicked around on the recruiting trail like we are. End rant

  21. Talked with MGSF (still want to type MGC) rep today. It's going to cost me. I had 8 tickets. 4 for me, 2 each for friends. We did this to cut the donation requirement. I suspect we are the type of folks this was meant to eliminate :) I'm not excited to pay more. But I am excited about where this program is headed. The website was very informative. My deal is this, if they are charging higher than our competitors, I'd be livid. But we are still below the CUSA average. And I expect us to win, so I understand paying bottom dollar prices doesn't mesh with my expectations. I think overall this is good for athletics and a good sign for UNT. It tells me that Smattresk, Baker, et al. are trying to build something sustainable. If they weren't, why bother and get some of the negativity you know will come with an increase and changes. I'm gonna do the 6 month thing. That will cost me an extra $50 per month for 6 months.

  24. We're doing better. We're not great, but things have slightly improved. I don't expect to be an overnight top recruiting class in CUSA. But I do expect steady improvements year to year, which I am seeing. Now, we do need to close strong with these last handful of scholarships. We can't afford to whiff on the rest of our slots and watch UTSA, LaTech and SMU closeout strong.

  25. No, it wasn't $1,000 or $2,000 - they just went on priority points. So now I have been downgraded on my parking. I would be willing to spend more I think, but the jump to $3000 is severe.

  26. It's not forced on you. Sit somewhere else. It would be forced on students unless they wanted to transfer to another school. I am for the student fee being raised, and though I am not happy about it, I understand why the program needs to raise money to compete.

  27. So asking a customer who is interested in the product and in convinced the product should be high grade is a money grab. But forcing the students, many of who aren't interested in athletics at all, to pay a higher fee is not a money grab?

  34. While I'm disappointed, we have been getting guys lately that have more competitive offer sheets. We have gotten better each class and I feel we will continue to get better. We have a decent/good class right now and can still get a couple of difference makes this class.

  41. I'm confused. We encourage a guy to retire rather than going through all the work of firing him. The guy isn't what we want, but obviously has skill as he was hired by another FBS school in just a few weeks. We replace him with someone we want more. We do it in a way that saves time and lets other people see you can be replaced but we won't be mean and petty doing it which should improve moral in the department. The guy we let go finds a similar position in a few weeks. What rational person thinks this is a negative?
