  4. We are winning and having a season we would have all grabbed onto in a split second if we were told this is where we would be at this point in the season. Just enjoy!!!

  5. Honest question, why are we in love with playing in Dallas? It was really cool in 2013 because I don't believe North Texas had ever played in that historic venue. Last year was ok, becuase at 5-7 you take what you can get. But why wish to go there again this year? I would much rathe have the destination of New Orleans or a makeable trip to Tucson or New Mexico. Bowl games should be like a mini-vacation and a reward for players...playing in a place where you can Uber to is neither

  7. maybe it is because we keep score in college football and it hurts to much when the home team goes down in defeat and students have to go to their safe places. Maybe we offer students free counseling after a loss.

  8. I am an alum who graduated in 1970. Like a number of others here I have had the joys along with the slings and arrows of 50 plus years of UNT/NTSU football. You may not be aware but a lot of alums pushed seat sales so we could get enough people in the stands so we could qualify to get back to D1. That is one of many things done historically for this program which has brought us to the point of where we are today. We are still around, our backs hurt, our knees hurt and it is unfortunate that some of us make you sick and tired. We have given a lifetime of interest and effort to this program. When you are 70 and come back to this forum and have someone, who has a lack of maturity, posting inappropriate comments you will understand why I don't give a rats ass about you being sick and tired. This blog should be about football which is in fact, entertainment. Send your sick and tired comments to butthurt.com.

  9. I think they need to go away with the new student ticket thing they are doing. Students are lazy. I mean pitifully lazy. If they have to do anything whatsoever to get a ticket they just aren't going to. But if they can walk up to the stadium and have their ID scanned, then they're in with no questions and most students do carry their student ID on them. I don't think the absolute drop in student attendance and this new ticket app is just a coincidence.

  11. All of these are factors. However, to me G-5 conference members need to admit that they're never going to get into the P-5 club and form regional conferences that would generate more interest from fans in general. It's been mentioned on this board a million times, but schools in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana should rekindle the old SWC. Tulsa, UNT, SMU, Houston, La. Tech, UTSA, Rice, UTEP and throw in a couple more would generate instant interest and rivalries in those areas. Better than trying to promote schools no one knows anything about.

  12. I’d really like for the current students and recent alums to get to experience the New Orleans Bowl. That city/experience is amazing debauchery. We’d create another generation of loyal fans like what happened during the DD years after having that shared experience as a fan base. Win or lose that bowl game, one thing’s for sure...North Texas fans always win at partying.

  13. Brother, I was out in that cold with two broken ribs, and I yelled much more then I should have. After staying until the end of the game, I got to drive home for over 2 hours. Oh, I'm paying for it today, but it was the choice I made. And, it was worth it. You have no idea what some on that alumni side are going through, or what they have done for our university. We all want more rowdy fans on the alumni side. Once you and the majority of the student section start graduating, and joining the Mean Green Club and buying season tickets on the alumni side, things should change.

  15. Maybe it makes me a bad fan to say this but oh well. I have two kids with soccer and tball games on Saturday mornings. The tball game ended at 1:30 so I would've had to leave south Austin right after the game to make it to Apogee in time. It was also my birthday. I am a season ticket holder with 4 seats so I count towards attendance whether I am there or not. If we had beaten FAU the way they beat us, I probably would've been excited enough to drive up with my family in that narrow timeline. However, after the FAU performance we had, I wasn't willing to make the effort to get up there because of my Mean Green PTSD. Many times I've spent more money, time, and family capital than I should have only to leave the stadium disgusted and regretful knowing those resources could've been spent on other things more important to my family. I am going to try and make the Army game so long as this team shows me that they care to put in the effort that is worth my time and money. One younger fan on this board said this was the best Notth Texas team they had seen. I find that hard to believe. The 2013 team never quit in any game. They lost 4 games by a combined 41 points while this team lost a single conference game by 38 points. That should NEVER happen, NEVER. There was no effort that game and effort is what puts my butt in the seats.

  16. It shouldn’t be miserable to come read a fan board after a win and see “fans” saying the teams sucks. It’s pathetic. Lack of winning has made some people bitter to the point they are miserable no matter what. Yes, enjoy it!!

  17. I really wish CUSA would get out of the Bahamas and Hawaii bowls. Attendance is horrible at those bowls for obvious reasons. Why not shoot for more bowls within the conference’s geographic footprint?

  19. There used to be lines to get in the freaking stadium for the students. At Fouts even. If you have a problem with it, BE PROACTIVE and BE THE CHANGE. To the current students, this is what 10K students looks like. We haven’t seen anything like this since 2014.

So Miss gained 3 spots to move to #56 after falling to #85 UAB who gained 10 spots. UT-Sorta Almost gained 4 spots to number 64. This weeks opponent, Louisiana Tech gained 2 spots to move to #72 after their win over #121 Rice. Other Notables: 35 SMU 37 Iowa 58 FIU 59 Marshall 63 Army 67 FAU 130 UTEP STILL NO LOVE FOR UNT, EVEN OVER TEAMS WE HAVE ALREADY BEAT. So Miss still gains spots after losing. Lets just crown them the division with their 2 losses.... Ridiculous.... Or even UTSA....

  21. ???? You brought up payout in your previous post responding to me.... I’m getting extremely confused with our conversation....my comments were regarding the bowl games CUSA is associated with....nothing to do with our bowl eligibility whatsoever. But even if I WERE talking about our likely bowl destinations for the Mean Green I’ll do so because I’m a fan. The players and coaches can focus on La Tech...I can speculate bowl spots all day long.

  23. Be humble. In case anyone contemplating trash-talking on their board needs a reminder, the past 3 seasons, the combined score has been: LATech - 143 UNT - 58 We have no room to trash-talk LATech. EDIT: Besides, they seem to be beating themselves up pretty bad over there. Not many thinking they're gonna win... their own Homecoming!

  24. Yes, HD and the proliferation of college football tv games are hurting, but that has been the case for at least the past 5 years. I don't buy these excuses for UNT THIS year. What is hurting us this year is pretty clearly two things: 1 - The new ticket app screw up the first week of the season turned a lot of students off, and for whatever reason, they aren't coming back or trying again. 2- The Hill is not the 'event' around gameday that it had been for students. Whether that is due to the hardline stance on checking everyone's ID, or something else, I don't know. And no, I'm not advocating that we break the law and start pushing underage drinking as a means to increase attendance---but you can't argue that the Hill is a shell of what it was. Maybe I'm misinformed, but this is what I get reading through posts on the board for the past couple of months. Fix those 2 problems and you have a chance to boost attendance, again. I fully expect that Homecoming will provide a big uptick for Hill activities, and in general activities around gameday. This will be the AD's chance to prove the student ticket system is fixed and regain their trust.

  28. The NCAA allowed teams to play an extra exhibition this year if proceeds helped hurricane victims. Hence why they played in Houston
    4 points
  29. My knee jerk reaction was, wow we barely beat Houston Baptist. Then I realized that they were not bad last year (3rd in Southland) and finished about 150 points higher in the RPI rankings than we did (their 185 to our 338). They are probably looking at the headline and thinking the same thing I was, except in reverse. Good to hear they played well and came away with the W, even if it was just an exhibition. Better than the alternative.

  30. Yes, drawing fans has long been an issue at UNT. And the overall success of this team should be drawing more fans to the stadium. But, many fans are walking away in the third quarter of our home games as they watch the defense continue to struggle with the same issues (3rd down stops & discipline) they have had all season. Watching the special teams cough up two TDs on kickoffs didn't help either. We scored 0 points in the third quarter on Saturday and lost the lead to a now 2-6 ODU team. Thankfully, the team did enough in the 4th to sneak out with a win. But, because of the habitual problems that have plagued out team all season, many of the few cold fans we had Saturday, walked right out of Apogee before the comeback. Lets also work on keeping the ones that showed up, while we figure out how to draw new ones.

  31. Can you imagine how dominating this team could be in CUSA play if all three phases were complimenting each other? We should have beaten ODU by about 28 pts. This week against La Tech would be the perfect time to put it all together! Make it so!!

  32. I haven't seen it on here among the various attendance, people not cheering, and "..." sucks threads, but is it possible for us to have decent officiating? 4 piss poor calls stand out in my mind from Saturday night: 1) On the first touchdown that got reviewed. I think we all saw that his knee was down prior to the ball crossing, but the marked the ball at the 2 when clearly the ball was on or just inside the 1. 2) The obvious one. Guyton and the corner both come down with the ball, and as they roll, Guyton takes possession. The ball is clearly secured as he rolls out of bounds. It is initially ruled a catch, but the backjudge on the other side of the field runs over and rules incomplete. Not only was it practically impossible for him to see that from 60 yards away, but in the direction they rolled his view was obstructed. He should not have been alowed to overturn the call. 3) The terrible acting job when #8 barely touched the ODU player. He took a step , then jumped backwards onto the ground. Flav for unsportsmanlike conduct. 4). The unsportsmanlike call that negated our touchdown. Seriously, what the hell? I have yet to see what they called.

  35. EXCELLENT post. What I've been saying all along. This team and staff are young and people are so young and still learning. People are expecting masterful football not two years removed from a historically abysmal 1-11 season. It just doesn't happen that quickly. No CFB turnaround has ever happened that quickly. The fact that we have one of the twenty best offenses in all of college football, we're 5-3 with 2 pitiful teams left to play and 2 we can beat if we really want, and yet people STILL find a way to bitch. We could go 9-3 if we play our best football in November... just be patient.

  37. I think this may be a good thread to post this. This list of skill position players are almost all FR and SO!! All but 1 RB and WR (and b/u QB) are back for 2 more years. Mason and the receivers are all starting to get on the same page and should only get A LOT better with 2 more years. He's not gonna' overcome the size limitation which may be a factor a few times, but it doesn't seem to inhibit his arm strength needed for the deep ball. Not sure what's gonna' happen with the line. I really don't know enough about the players. Regarding two key positions of LT and C, I think Barr is pretty good and has another year. Murray has another year and maybe the coaches can figure out how to get the most out of his size next year. If we've got any hidden gems in the lower classmen or can get a transfer help and can get the line to improve a bit each of the next two years then we could be seeing some great stuff on the O side. QB 6 Fine SO 19 Shanbour JR RB 3 Wilson SR 21 Smith FR 26 Johnson FR WR 1 Smiley SR 8 Bussey SO 9 Guyton SO 15 Chumley SO 32 Lawrence SO 84 Darden FR 87 Smith SO LT 71 Murray JR 78 SR LG 77 Woodworth SO 73 SR C 54 Barr JR 60 SO RG 53 Henson SR 72 FR RT 79 Mayfield SE 74 FR

  39. I sit on the so-called alumni side (I prefer press box side). I yell and plenty of others in 106 do as well. To get the whole place rockin', though, we need to win consistently and play (and beat) teams that people have heard of. I haven't missed a home game in over 20 years and when the day comes when the place is packed and everyone is yelling and we have a lead in the 4th quarter against a ranked opponent, it will be glorious.

  40. I haven't read Brett's article yet, but in my opinion games are just too damn long. Driving up from Dallas the game day experience requires 5 - 6 hours, and that's if you DON'T tailgate. This is more an NCAA problem and not a UNT problem. Games should last 3 hours MAX with the very rare game stretching 3hr. 30min.

  43. I live about a half hour away and attended every football game this year. Still a hs student, but I just wish there were more rowdy fans in the student section. I'm still a little hoarse from last night cause i was yelling the whole game. Too many student were just sitting down and talking to each other and acting like they didn't even know a barnburner of a game was right in front of them.

  46. No, but I'm sick and tired of hearing the Alumni being labeled as shit because they don't yell loud enough. I don't see the students juggling a career and family, and still making it out to the game. I don't see the students buying season tickets even though they live hours away, and don't have the guarantee they will be able to make any games. I don't see the students working a 12 hour night shift, getting 3 hours of sleep, and then driving 6 hours away to support the team. What I do see is the students who can't drag their ass across campus to go to a FREE event. I see people bitching about it being too cold. Stand outside when it's - 5 degrees. And then tell me what's cold. Stand outside in 30lbs or more of gear when it's 100+, and tell me what's hot. I see people bitching about a decrepit stadium, then still make an excuse when we have a beautiful new stadium. I see alumni who refuse to sit on the Alumni side and change the culture. I'm not saying one group is better than the other. We have to work together, but it's flat out bullsh to routinely trash the alumni because they don't cheer hard enough. We are, as a fan base, ridiculous. We are 5-3. I can count on one hand, the number of times in the past 10 years we have been above .500 this late in the season. We had one of the top 3 most exciting finishes in my 20 years of following NT football 2 weeks ago. Barring a complete meltdown, we are going bowling for the 2nd year in a row for the first time since the early '00's. We are in 1st place of our division. We control our own destiny. This is why we can't have nice things.
    3 points
  47. Look, we're 5-3 for the first time in the Austin-Rodgers-UNT-fandom era. We alumni need to cheer like we've never cheered before (or have cheered before?). Time to support this team (that we've supported for years).
