There are a lot of things that Conference USA needs but Liberty University is not one of them.10 points

This offseason, UNT needs to coordinate an LB camp in Denton, with Orr and Robertson and the LB coach as well. Even Spencer and Kassel if they are able too. Showing off the success of UNT LBs from the past and present would help us get some solid LB depth in the 2018 class.5 points

Marcus is headed to Mizzou as a defense grad assistant. I hate we couldn't find a place for him in New Denton Check out Marcus Trice (@Coach_Trice): https://twitter.com/Coach_Trice?s=094 points

Remember that our former CB coach from the 2013 season is co-DC at Mizzou now. Glad to see Trice going the coaching route!3 points

Per ACU message board, he is considered one of their best players. Has already used both a redshirt and medical redshirt year. Speculated on their board, that he is actually transferring because ACU does not have the graduate program he wants. Looks like a very good pickup for NT, particular at this time of year.3 points

Blakeley was the master showman. Everyone now is way too up tight to coach the way he did. I really miss the performances that he provided at the Super Pit.2 points

The other is a juco center with 3 for 3years eligibility left. Name should be announced soon. I don't want to ruin recruits announcement2 points

As long as they're back-filling UNT's spot because we left to go MWC or AAC, sure! Otherwise, nah.1 point

The rise of Rico Bussey into all-conference WR. Hoping he's getting stronger this offseason so he's not bit by the injury bug again. Guyton is exciting and I'm glad Smiley is back, but by the time UAB rolls around, Bussey will have established himself as the #1 target. If he can get through the season, he'll have something like: 75/1000/13.1 point

I am not so sure I love the idea. If there were more resources, sure why not. However, if UNT does offer kids from far out of state, I tend to think those kids better already have a grasp of what college is or better have been really good in school. Thats because if you add the culture change of moving to Texas from say Florida or California to the culture change of becoming a college student and athlete that is already a lot to get through for a 18-20 year old. If then you then throw in a kid who still needs to improve his academic discipline on top of all this, you you start taking risks that may lead to bad roster depth because off players not making it, players not managing to keep the grades and players transfering out because they get homesick because they can't handle all the stress. UNT has had bad roster depth...Its not good for your record.1 point

While I wish he could stay, getting experience and the professional connections with another coaching staff will be a great benefit for Marcus down the road. You can't know too many people!1 point

Dre and Pac were never seen wearing a North Texas t-shirt so for that reason, @Wale for the win!1 point

How often do you watch their network? How often is it on the TV in a bar or restaurant you visit? Liberty's network is the old time TV version of ESPN3. You don't see it unless you are already interested and know to go look for it.1 point

Florida players can look up football records. This theory that local kids want to get away is a very familiar excuse. Does not seem to effect Houston for example who is build primarily on their area kids. Sure a lot of players do want to get away from home, but many using that rationale ignore the ones that want to stay close to home and family. Your personal example is a familiar one, but the fact is that NT is no were near competing against OU, A&M and UT. NT is not going to get any players with those kind of offers unless there are very special circumstances. I do wonder why you refer to recruits as sloppy seconds from the local area, and think somehow that NT is going to get a higher tier of recruits from the Deep South. Not going to happen. The truth is that the further away a recruit is the more likely he is not going to sign and if he does, the more likely he is to leave early.1 point

Because of the same reason a kid chooses a Florida school or any other school not named us that's local, kids want to get away sometimes why not make that an option. Hell fly into Miami spend 3 nights there hit 20-30 schools there fly back. Cost 1,000-1,500 bucks and maybe you pull 2 kids from Florida every year. I'm not saying abandon ship, but the Florida school coaches etc know much less of our history of not winning than TX coaches. Until we start winning a lot and consistently that's a battle we will face with TX coaches, theyll look down at UNT bc of our history and so will the kids. It is what it is, when you were growing up didn't you keep up or have interest in a school who didn't win football games? I wasn't, I was all about OU, ATM etc, I lived in Denton my entire life, took me until my senior year to go to a UNT game. I'm just offering some options if we can't start hauling in good local talent and settling for sloppy seconds all the time.1 point

I've always advocated a combo of dark green, kelly green and lime green for uniforms. It would incorporate the greens over decades that have been used.1 point

Good to hear. Really seems like the staff is stepping up their twitter game significantly. I'm seeing recruits tweet out way more stuff about "UNT Showing Love" with custom graphics. Breath of fresh air compared to the previous regime1 point

My wife loved coming to the game when Bill Blakely was coaching. One of my favorite NT souvenirs is the game program from the Baylor game that some have called the John Horrocks "All World" game. On the cover is Coach Blakely obviously unhappy with an official's call, appearing to be chocking himself with his own tie. Some years later I sent the cover to Coach Blakely. He autographed it and sent it back to me. I hope Chris Blakely hangs a banner on the back of his chair like his grand dad did this season reading "Under Construction." GO MEAN GREEN1 point

Sam is a big dude. 6'5 370lbs but he is very raw. He will probably need to head to a JUCO for a year or 2 to develop. There is no doubt that he has the body to play D1 football, but more of a work in progress.1 point

Always thought it'd be fun to attend a conference tournament. Now me and many other students finally get the opportunity (Although I will be graduating in December)! Looking forward to it and hopefully the Mean Green will head to Frisco with a lot of momentum.1 point

Could someone make a cartoon of this thread so our friends at Houston could understand it ?1 point

A commitment doesn't mean a signing. Those are two different things. As of now, signing day is in February... although there was talk about having an early signing period, I don't know when that would go into effect if passed. So any kind of "commitment" from a recruit is just a placeholder with no binding whatsoever. But, once they do sign, it IS binding. I think an early signing period (like what basketball has) would be good to help eliminate a lot of what you're talking about. But I bet many kids would string out their recruiting to allow for more opportunities. Again, Mr. Gage is having fun with this, and he should. As of now, he has several G5 & P5 offers, and he considers UNT the best. That is a good thing... for us, because he's obviously a great player... for him, because, well, UNT is the best school!1 point

I think this is partly what has happened and hastened (not necessarily caused) the demise of ESPN etc. It is short term ratings over being the place where all sports happen. If you know that your little niche team/sport never makes it to their screen it will eventually get boring. And a lot (I think most) of sports fans have that little niche sport/team they love, and a big time sports-team they also like to follow because it is conveniently in the same place as all the sport and because people talk about it at work. If you turn this around and -because the ratings are higher- start thinking that it is completely worth focusing on the big matchups because they bring the highest ratings that week, you will erode your viewer base little by little as people realise that their first love can't be found there anymore.1 point
