When a coach is fired, it always seems that the opposite is the way everyone wants to go. Benford was a long time assistant with a specialty in recruiting with no HC experience. So now the search will probably be for candidates with hc experience and a good x and o's knowledge. Fraschilla really said nothing noteworthy in this interview, seems to thinks NT is a good place for a relative newcomer. I don't think that is what Baker is looking for. I suspect Baker will go for a safe hire, meaning someone who is currently coaching with a good history. I don't see Baker picking a coach with a questionable background, one with no hc experience, or a reach of any kind.4 points

What we might take seriously is that we were not mentioned but UTSA and Tx. St. were, which is why they kicked our butts in recruiting.3 points

Benford has left plenty of talent for a coach who can hopefully make that talent better!2 points

If ASN would have developed an app for online streaming on rooku, Amazon fire, etc. this may have worked out differently.2 points

A very nice guy despite being a terrible head coach, I wish him the best. But we're not coaching cupcakes here. I want to win. P.S. Thanks for getting us Woolridge and Lawson, though. A good coach who can develop players and fewer injuries and we might compete in the conference next year.2 points

If you look at ESPN as a whole with all their programs they really do suck. They have 4 major sports for the majority of viewers NBA, NFL, P5 BB and football. As like a lot of leagues we need to start selling out our own stadiums!2 points

If we're talking about really taking this thing seriously, we should hire: Has all of the qualifications necessary to win since it's been on the sideline for every single NCAA championship game ever. Bio2 points

I got enough undisciplined street ball when JJ was here, thank you very much. Plus, if we're ever up 2 and need to intentionally foul the other team late to preserve the win, how do we know our coach can keep the opponent from side-stepping the defenders hands and dunking 26 ft. from a standstill? Give me the fundamentals of Double Dribble if we're going down this ridiculous path.2 points

I agree with Harry. Good man, good character, and a good eye for talent. His downfall was how he directed that talent from buzzer to buzzer, IMO. I sincerely wish him good luck in the future.2 points

ESPN is a total joke. Their filler programs include bowling, toughman competitions, and the drone racing league.1 point

I am definitely sick of the annual Wednesday night game and Mr. Red Shirt man coming out every other play to hold the game up. I don't know if post AAC formation CUSA TV money is worth it, but I'm probably in the minority in that opinion.1 point

Meh, not a big deal, imo. He fired Benford at season's end. The team struggled his entire tenure and we all knew the ship already sank. Firing him mideason wouldn't accomplish a whole helluva a lot. The staff had to have known their jobs were numbered as well. One of them would've had to take over the dumpster fire. How enticing is that? The right thing to do was fire him after year 3. That's where the AD failed miserably.1 point

Lol. Shanbour was "#2" coming out of Spring Practice last year too, remember? Just get you a custom Shanbour Fathead and put him on your bedroom wall Silver. That way he'll be with you every night.1 point

One of the things Dickey did was a drill called "blood alley." Players were lined up against each other, with a line of their teammates to their left and right. The only way out was forward, through the other man. None of that patty cake bull$hit that Dodge employed that left us looking like we had never hit anyone before when the real games started.1 point

Going to be difficult for him to pack 4 suits for a conference tourney. Shoes alone will put his bag over the weight limit. The last time he was relevant to recruits was when they were 2-4 years old.1 point

Worthless to even discuss this guy until we hear he's a viable candidate for the job from @Coaching Changes.1 point

Yes, expecting to beat the likes of Northern Kentucky, Towson, and San Francisco is expecting way too much. 11/25/16 vs. Niagara The Super Pit W, 80-71 Video GT MORE 11/27/16 vs. Hartford The Super Pit W, 81-78 Video GT MORE 11/30/16 vs. Texas College The Super Pit W, 73-45 Video GT This little stretch right here is embarrassing.1 point

We have been scheduling the sameness teams for decades... maybe a new AD will change it but it's nothing new to play SE Louisiana, Sam Houston State, Cameron, etc..1 point

No major moves ... except replacing the ENTIRE leadership of the AD office with his own hires. Keeping a guy who wanted his job ... Or perhaps he has the internal confidence and support of the administration to handle that "guy" and perhaps that "guy" is also mature enough to still do his job and work well for his new boss. Letting Benford coach out the season ... he plainly stated several good reasons for doing so which is really self evident. Even if you disagree with that you have to agree that Baker has a much more experience in leading an AD office and making decisions like this than you. He's also much closer to the situation than anyone on this board. Plus, if rumors are correct it seems he's been working on Benford's replacement for awhile. Because, so far, we have seen nothing else from him - additional support staff added Zero. Track/soccer field. Zip. IPF Zilch. From most reports the Ticket Office is functioning much better. Plus from reports recruits visiting practice are being handled much better.1 point

I bash the new AD for lack of action. There have been zero major moves made since his arrival. He chose not to rock the boat by keeping around a guy that openly and aggressively campaigned for his job. He chose not to rock the boat by letting Benford coach out the season. This is concerning that he will ALWAYS choose not to rock the boat. Because, so far, we have seen nothing else from him. Zero. Zip. Zilch. That deserves criticism. If you don't want to end up with RVII, that is. Remember: It is North Texas...1 point

I think every college fan knows that standard contract lengths are 4 or 5 years. So they would be left with the impression that Benford got extended a year without a winning season or that he was allowed to coach out his contract without a winning season. And college basketball fans are the ones reading this article. But you are right. It doesn't actually say it in the article. Notice how the article points out he was allowed to coach 5 years without producing a winning season? Then says "It's North Texas?"1 point

A great 30/30 about UNT would be something titled along the lines of "Killing A Program: UNT Basketball's Demise and the Culture Behind It." Of course, it would need to be at least a 2 parter.1 point

I'm not sure that is an entirely factual statement. I'll bet there have been other coaches well before JJ that moved on to better gigs.1 point
