He outperformed a 5-year Alabama back-up and helped to post wins for a team that had a disastrous season the year prior. As a freshman. I'd say he accomplished something.20 points

This is, sadly, how things work these days. And it isn't limited to sports. ONE person says something and it turns into: "Liberals (or conservatives) are losing their minds over this..." or "(Insert a movement or group) is disrespecting America (or women, or minorities, or whatever)" or "(Insert school) fans are the worst in the country" It is so much easier, and lazier, to categorize whole groups of people than it is to know them individually. I've done it.5 points

I donated to this cause, and I know of three others who have as well. I called Mike Smith and he took care of it for me as he did at least one other person I know. We bought tickets which will be given away to students on campus at various events and points around campus. If you do want to participate just call Mike, tell him how many if the $20 student tickets you wish to donate and give him your credit card number. Done! Easy!5 points

I don't know that Tee will ever get his s together. For his own sake, I hope he does. If players don't understand the reason for the dismissal, they are either dillusional or are too close to Goree and the other kid to be objective. Give it a year in their rear view and they will have a different perspective.5 points

How many CUSA teams led the nation with their QB being sacked the most many times before he even had time to set & pass? In 40 plus years of watching MG football Mason Fine is one of the most promising talents we've had at QB. We have deficiencies in other areas I hope we address this recruiting season.5 points

Credit to reddit. Can't quote on phone: Kiffin said he had other opportunities to get into head coaching — he previously led Tennessee, USC and the Oakland Raiders — but had Houston at the top of his list. “Well, not the top of my real list,” he said. “There are obviously a ton of other jobs in legit conferences I’d want first. But I can’t get those right now because of how poorly I did at Tennessee and USC. I need to reset and start at a second-rate program like this, win a little bit and then get one of those good jobs. And Houston was definitely at the top of my list of second-rate jobs to springboard off of. No doubt.” Kiffin said he consulted with Alabama head coach Nick Saban on the decision to pursue the Houston job. “Obviously, if you want advice on how to jump from job to job and look out only for yourself, Coach Saban is your first call,” he said. “And Coach said this was exactly the kind of job he’d look to take for two years before moving on if he was in my situation. So that sealed it for me. I’m excited to get to Houston, rent a house, chase some tail and win enough games to get the hell out of there as quickly as possible.”5 points

I think it was apparent that Delaware State is not a good team. However, I think you still have to give the Mean Green credit for giving up only three points through the first 11.5 minutes of the second half. The Hornets could not maneuver through our trap defense or make shots all night. Holston and Draper were fun to watch at the end. I think Holston's first highlight dunk was the most monstrous dunk I've seen in three years as a student here. #SCTop10 for sure!4 points

Let's compare Fine's stats with the freshman stats of Nick Mullens, a top C-USA QB: Mullens: PASSING STATS SEASON CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT RAW QBR ADJ QBR 2013 136 276 1776 49.3 6.44 81 13 14 25 108.7 27.1 21.1 RUSHING STATS YEAR TEAM ATT YDS AVG LNG TD 2013 USM 40 -103 -2.6 13 2 Fine: PASSING STATS SEASON CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT RAW QBR ADJ QBR 2016 155 261 1572 59.4 6.02 75 6 5 36 113.7 39.5 30.9 RUSHING STATS YEAR TEAM ATT YDS AVG LNG TD 2016 UNT 94 118 1.3 80 2 Of course, all those sacks Mason took factor into those stats. But if you want to go "by the numbers," there's no reason why he couldn't be a better QB his senior season than Mullens has been his.4 points

I didn't read every post in this thread...but you have to admit that the folks who decided that putting these two teams back together for a rematch wildly missed the mark. Maybe it was all that was left and we got it by default? The New Years date GREATLY helped our attendance in 2014 and the so close to Christmas date, 5-7 and rematch are going to really work against us having a repeat of 2014. I don't think that says anything horribly bad about our fan base to any bowl committees if we don't bring 38k fans back out this year. I think our New Orleans Bowl attendance in the early aughts and 2014 HOD speak for themselves. UNT fans support good teams in bowl games. We've demonstrated that repeatedly now. This UNT team isn't very good and the opponent is an absolute whiff (no disrespect to Army as I believe that if this was the 1st time we faced them this year it would be a GREAT opponent). I think we drew 18-20k in Texas Stadium when we last played Army there in the 90s in the regular season. They don't travel particularly well, but maybe they'll do better for a bowl game? Either way, I expect attendance numbers in the same ballpark for this one. And it WILL NOT kill our reputation. I went to the Alamo Bowl back when RG3 won the Heisman. The University of Washington was the opponent and they could not have had more than 5k there--and that's giving them a lot of credit. That was in a tourist town and for a P5 team that's supposed to travel. Lots of P5 teams don't travel to bowls as well as we've demonstrated that we do. By comparison we always brought at least 2-3 times that amount (in actual butts) every time we traveled to New Orleans. Before you say that New Orleans is a better destination, just look at the opponent attendance at every New Orleans bowl we played in. We ALWAYS outdrew the opponent. So, I don't buy that this is the end of the world for UNT. All that said, it undoubtedly makes us look all the better if we somehow bring 25k+ to support a 5-7 team, against a rematch opponent that we spanked, and 2 days after Christmas.4 points

did you see his 80 yd TD....pulling away from the DB.......he has more potential than I have seen around here in a long time4 points

The week after his injury he was suited up and throwing on the sidelines. The injury happened on November 12, the game is played a month and a half later. If he does not start, I would say it is more of a coach's decision than an injury situation. That said, if everyone is healthy, give me MF!4 points

I want to see more Split back Gun from us. It is Deadly. We can run stretch either way and it still allows for 3 WR stuff. Easy capability to swing both backs out and get a possible mis match. This is all dependent on Wilson being healthy obviously. Even Tucker who should be good to go makes that an option. What I don't want to see is a bunch of stuff where we try and run up the middle, that isn't this teams strength and I can only recall 2 TD's all year that hit between the Tackles. Most of our good run game is on the edge. What do yall think?3 points

Just because we bring up valid points doesn't mean you have to get upset. These are legit worries, and reason as to why Fine shouldn't be expected to start the HoD. We just think he isn't up to speed or brings the passing ability of Morris. Rotate them and play them both, but it shouldn't be 1 QB show.3 points

Since y'all asked about two back sets, h-back, zone runs, run options and whatnot Did I miss anything? A play we ran a lot this year, that saw many of Thaddeous' targets (spring game) This also is where a TE would also line up (here we see Kelvin Smith) and running backs can release for a pass based on protection/what they see3 points

Hire an up-and-coming Coordinator to be their next HC. It's worked for them pretty well over the past 10+ years dating back to Briles. Why stop now? This is the hire I expected.3 points

Didn't mean it as a dig. I meant it seriously. As much as you critique it would be interesting to see how successful you'd be. It is always easier on the outside. That isn't defending a coach, thats as a fan. This team was worse than most FCS schools this year and yet somehow this staff found a way to get them to 5-7. I still can't believe they got there. Fine needs to improve on things absolutely. But, getting more than the snap of the ball to make a read would be very helpful in seeing what he could truly do. IMO3 points

I, for one, think Mason will show major improvement next year. The kid is a smart competitor and works as hard, if not harder, than any of the other players. I'm doubling down on Fine. *He's also my adopted player3 points

I was pleasantly surprised how well we broadcast (stream) games compared to others in CUSA, we really have a great crew. I had a great viewing experience watching the game on the TV. I have the CUSA streaming package, I play it on my iPad and then use airplay to my Apple TV. You cant get better than Dave and Hank. Dave really calls a great game and Hank transitioned into the color commentator role nicely. I'd never thought I would have to compare TV crews but its not even close to how much better our TV crew is, some of those football games we watched were unwatchable. Finally, I'm liking the in-game product. The lights seem to only be on the court and the music seems to be better.3 points

He played SMU (not bowling), USM, and an atrocious UTEP team who he didn't do a thing to until their backups backup was playing. Look neither was stellar, both have holes in their game. However Mason has proven time and again he makes more plays consistently. Defenses faced by each QB in order of overall a Ranking 5 Army - Mason 6 Florida - Mason 18 Southern Miss - Alec 37 WKU - Mason injury leading to Alec 58 UTSA - Mason 70 La Tech - Mason 72 UTEP - Alec 92 MTSU - Mason 102 SMU - Alec 105 Marshall - Mason 123 Rice - Mason Positive note our our defense finished 79th and these rankings include every statistical category possible. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/22/p23 points

Well we don't know much of the staff, briefly introduced to the head coach, we spent most of the time with Coach Choice and Coach LeBlanc. Those two were great! Overall I get the feeling that these players are extremely happy with their coaches and enjoy playing for them3 points

Received a call from John Nitardy today thanking me for my support and buying tkts to the bowl game. I brought up how are student tkts being handled? UNT has been given a ration of student tkts at $20 a pop. They are taking donations to the MGC which will be used to pay for or offset the pricing to students. Would like to see a HUUUUUUGE STUDENT TURNOUT! GMG2 points

I hope Fine starts *if* he is healthy and ready, because I feel a healthy Fine gives us a better chance at winning. I don't think Fine has been healthy since before the Army game, and that showed in his throws. If Morris starts, I don't think it is much of a drop-off in passing specifically, but starting Morris essentially removes the QB running threat (one less thing for the defense to account for).2 points

were you at the Army game? I was. the wind was the huge factor in the passing game. Our world class punter couldn't even get a 30 yd punt down field. The adjustments were made based on the wind...not QB2 points

Rumor is he is headed back to UT. The lawsuit has to do with their departed track coach having a relationship with one of her athletes. Her argument is that Applewhite also had a relationship with a student(though it wasn't an athlete, just a student trainer) and as a heterosexual, white, able-bodied male coach, he was treated differently than she was as a disabled, black, gay woman.2 points
