Just finished watching yesterday's episode of Beyond the Green. Wow, I just love that show. Loved the segment on Sherman and all the former Mean Green players on their staff. I wish them the best. The segment on Scott was also very informative and really did a good job of highlighting the kind of situations and challenges our players go thru on and off the field. Watching the UTSA footage in the second half of the episode was hard to stomach. But I think Littrell's post game speech to the team was very insightful. Littrell said, "Men, make no mistake. You must learn from this. You... must... learn... from... this. And its got to be fixed". That statement gives me hope, and I couldn't agree more. Go Mean Green! I can't wait for Homecoming tomorrow.5 points

Eight games into the season, we have yet to give up 40 points in a game. In fact, we haven't given up more than 34 to a team in regulation. Last year we gave up at least 40 points in half of our games and 38+ in seven of them. Our loss to UTSA may have made our road to a bowl game this year a lot more difficult, but even if we finish 4-8 or 5-7, I think this team has made a lot more progress in all aspects of the game than many of us expected in just one year. Jared Moseley RT this just now and, with all the subtweeting recently, I found it interesting (if you choose to speculate).3 points

Cusa refs are the worst refs in the NCAA. Targeting Missed block in the back Unt Wide receiver wasn't down and called down Too many to name.1 point

Kidding! Just poking fun because humor helps me hide my shame and anger. hahahaha... Someone send help.1 point

It is rare that I think the refs are really screwing a game, but being down 10, I really do think that with fair refs, we might be up. What has me particularly peeved (and shows bias) is how they confirmed that targeting call. You call that on the field, ok, I can see how you can make that mistake. But when you see that on video, it is so clear that this is not targeting. There is no excuse for that.1 point

I have seen crap like this before (every time UT or OU are having a good season they become the recipients of a buch of crap calls to protect the league's potential BCS participant) but this is clearly a case of CUSA protecting the 6-3 team versus us1 point
-
Lets add this up: A targeting call that was none against our best defender, missed holding on their offense, at least two BS PIs, 3 defensive holding calls of which at least one was complete BS. And I am not even sure that is all. And zero penalties on La Tech.1 point

Complete BS targeting call. Going with shoulder to chest. 10 yards ok, maybe he is a bit late. But targeting, now that is ridiculous1 point

New AD from P5. Maybe he differs in opinion. Why not go for it.1 point
-
I firmly agree. And if he was having a subpar year, so what? He is an O-lineman. Very rarely do you find immediate impact O-linemen from the HS ranks. You find something you can work with, redshirt and develop him. Obviously, the coaches thought they saw something they could work with, and a subpar year doesn't necessarily change that. If it was truly a mutual decision that it wasn't a good fit, that's different.1 point

Kids can change their minds and that is fine. Men should be true to their word. Now if the kid couldn't make a test score, can't get his grades high enough or has some type of behavioral issue then it is fine for a coach to rescind an offer. But a coach should not pull an offer if, "Oops, I thought you were better at playing football." Maybe Nick Saban does that. But I don't want to win that way.1 point

Rice was a +30. Tech covered easily. Someone needed to UNT90 this thread. I figured it was my time to shine...1 point

The guest during tomorrow's broadcast of Mean Green Game Day is going to be Joe Greene. The show starts at 2:30 at Gate 4 and lasts for an hour. The guest appearance usually happens during the game predictions segment. If you set your DVR to tape it, then walk behind the set at just the right time, you can go home and see yourself on t.v. with Mean Joe.1 point

20 point underdogs to La Tech? We've got the 'Dawgs just where we want them!1 point
-
Wonder if he is having trouble qualifying? We may have given him until x date to get a certain score on the SAT/ACT or whatever kids take these days and maybe he didn't do it? It would be pretty crappy of SL to offer a kid then pull the scholarship because the kid was underperforming on the field. I don't think SL would do that. It must be a off-the-field issue like grades or something else.1 point

I said to some of my friends 4 games in, well we know this staff can coach, i sure hope the can recruit, because if they can then we really have something. So far this recruiting doesn't look any different than any other than last 10 years around here. Hopefully, this they know something we don't.1 point

I mean, when he plays games, some times there's sun. Some times there's a moon. You tell me. *sniff*1 point

So the coaches pulled the offer because his high school team is too run-oriented, despite being perfectly fine offering and accepting a commitment in the first place back when his high school team had run the ball even more. That's just not how it works. They evaluate the player and project his skills. They saw him live at a camp. They determined he could fit their scheme and what plays his high school ran after that are irrelevant.1 point
-
Then why would we have offered in the first place?1 point

Thank you I'm sick and tired of people giving up on the Mean Green 1) the Season isn't over yet, 2) we can up set one of these top dog C-USA teams, 3) we can beat the piss out of the Miners we will make a bowl game this year if nope hell people should be happy I will take a 5-7 season over a 1-11 season any day. We Will up set LA Tech Let It Fly GMG1 point

As has been stated UTSA is very comparable with their first year coach. They have a class ranked 1 in CUSA at this time with a number of players having P5 offers. Very simply put we should out recruit UTSA! We have a good story with the program improving and very good young coaches! GMG1 point

Well, actually I had to go looking for the information. But to the great credit of the College of music, I got (unlike many people's previous experience with the previous athletic department's staff) a very timely response to my e-mail. Very professional experience.1 point

I wish this was the correct attitude. With respect to the current season this is maybe correct. But two seasons down the road we will expect Littrel to do better than now. How he recruits will be cruical toward that end. Middle of the pack recruiting now will make it hard to be a 9 win team competing for the conference championship in 2018. We can discuss whether it is too early to tell -its definitely a bit early to panik- and we can discuss the merrits of recruiting rankings etc, but at this time the signs are not unanimously pointing in the right direction, recruiting seldom magically skyrockets at the end of the season. A bit of concern is not misplaced. UTSA is in a completely comparable situation, and there are currently no bad signs at UTSA of the sort we can see in UNT recruiting. Now if UTSAs on the field product were significantly worse... but we just lost to them.1 point

uh huh...Meanwhile... 4-6, 8-4, 7-5, 4-8, and 3-9 is #1 in CUSA in recruiting. A 5 year old program that is 26-32 overall as a program in their history is #1. This same program that is #1 plays in an off campus dilapidated stadium that on a GREAT day hits 40ish% capacity. They have a legit community college campus. They are nobodies. Where are their excuses? We can sit here all day long every day and make excuses for the amount of ineptitude. I'm not going to do it. For anyone. Ever. We can do better. We have to do better.1 point
-
I guess that's to be expected, but man...we're #9 in recruiting in CUSA? Like, I didn't expect to be #1 in this crew's first full recruiting cycle, but at least middle of the pack, especially sitting at .500. Seems like it'll hurt us more than a lot of teams to lose recruits.1 point

On an individual level, there are all kinds of examples of players with pedestrian offer lists, or two-stars becoming exceptional players, or the opposite. But study after study has shown that the more highly recruited/rated player, the higher likelihood of that player becoming a starter/all-conference/drafted/etc. Over the course of a recruiting class or a roster, it just becomes an example of the law of averages. The beauty of saving a few spots late is getting guys whose other offers have expired because those schools' classes filled up. While still not winning recruiting battles in that case, the player is just as good usually. Is it really a noteworthy job of identifying talent when you get a guy plenty of other schools did offer but no longer have room for? I've been an advocate of getting a player or two each class without any other FBS offers. The problem is signing too many of those guys like in 2012. Sure you get a Carlos Harris every once in a while, but a whole class of that gets you the senior class on a 1-11 team. Even if Littrell and his staff are good evaluators, that doesn't mean their top options are going to be kids no one else wants. It will be the opposite more times than not.1 point
-
Well....If he thinks UNT's football isn't up to PAR, he's in for an eye opener in Kansas. Yes, he'll get to play bigger schools, in bigger stadiums...But their win/loss record doesnt exactly candy-coat playing in a big stadium....1 point

oh well, keeping kids focus is a lot like herding cats.1 point

You'd think the game against UTSA would show him he has the opportunity to step right in and play here. Hate to see this but hopefully he looks around and decides we're still the best place.1 point
