From @BeGreatEight Dear recruits, Only reason Miami became "The U" is because all their talent wanted to stay home and turn a program around together.... Truth Trice17 points

I enjoy reading all of the post on this site. IMO a way to help our university out at this moment is to retweet or click like on kids posting about UNT offers or UNT interest (Twitter posts). These kids need to feel like their choices are validated or simply need time to learn more about our coaches and what UNT has to offer. One click is easy and doesn't interfere with recruiting. Thoughts? Up for the challenge (those of you not doing this today)?10 points

I think we all need to relax on this signee. He is rated as a WR. Everyone on here wants us to recruit like TCU and such. Well this is what they do. They go find Athletes and put them in different positions and watch them take off from there. Would I like all of our Athletes to be 3 and 4 starts? Well hell yes but that is just not reality at this point. Lets see what this kid can do before flushing him down the tubes. We are all comparing him to the little to no offer kids McCarney brought in. Thats not fair because we know that McCarney (and his staff) couldn't figure out how to either reposition or maximize a players attributes to fit their scheme. Before crapping all over Litrell (and his Staff) lets see if they can do the evaluations and turn these athletes into football players and other positions then what their high school coach thought they could play.9 points

MGB: Here's an update after talking with Muhammad that sheds some light on his role, how this all played out http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2016/01/unt-picks-up-wide-receiver-commit.html/9 points

The topic is UNT's 2016 recruiting class, not the 2016 season.7 points

Fans shouldn't expect a lot. Psh. OK. We have a QB coming in from the University of Alabama. That alone should add an infusion of talent we desperately need at a position we have been bad at for a quite awhile. We will have very good skilled position players around said QB. I think this will cause us to get in a lot of shootouts, but that will be far better than the result of the last few seasons. If we can get a couple guys in the back end to create turnoevers on D to give us some extra opportunities I am very comfortable already going into the 2016 season as is. I think we will have a 3,000 yard passer and a 1,000 yard rusher in 2016. That will afford us at least 6 opportunities to bring home the W. This guy is just a social media ghoul browsing the apps retweeting and liking posts. He apparently knows nothing of what we currently have stocked up and the effectiveness of a graduate transfer at QB can bring to a team. In other words, he has no idea what he is talking about on our expectations because he doesn't know the full picture. If we can get decent productivity out of Alec Morris, this will be a big time swing season for us.7 points

Keep in mind that he probably never heard of Aledo before they recruited him either.7 points

I made it to the W Kentucky game last weekend, and had a great time. First, I've got to say that I love Denton. It's a cool town. The Super Pit kinda reminds me of DMC before the renovation with the bowl seating. The NT fans I talked with were very friendly and passionate about the school. As for your team, you have talent. Reese and Combs can play. It was just tough to figure out what kind of offense Benford wanted them to run. I never could figure that out. It was an entertaining game. Anyway, I just want to give you a little feedback on my experience. I'll be back.6 points

Yeah, the email for the Green-White Game will look like this: Come watch the Mean Green open up the 2016 season under first-year coach Steve Luttrell as they face Texas in the annual showdown in Dallas at 12am!!6 points

Just announced...Meet and Greet with Coach Littrell and his staff on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd at Apogee in the HUB Club from 5-7 pm. This is a free event open to all. Appetizers will be served and there will be a cash bar. There will be a brief program discussing recruiting and the 2016 UNT recruiting class, but mainly it will be a meet & greet with Coach Littrell and his new coaching staff. Make plans now to attend if you can...and bring a friend.5 points

I agree that it is a less than perfect situation. That said, look at our recruiting classes the past 2 times we have brought in new coaches: The 2007 class (Dodge's first): We only had 3 commits before January 20th (today's date). It ended up being a pretty good class--the main problem was that too few of them remained in the program for more than a couple of years. The 2011 class (Mac's first): We only had 4 commits before January 20th. That class ended up being significantly better than the 2012 class and probably better than the 2013 class (it certainly was on paper). The 2016 class (Littrell's first): On January 20th, we have 4 (maybe 5) high school commits, 3 juco commits, and 2 P5 transfers who look to be better at their positions than anything we've had at those positions in a while. I would love to see more, but we look to be better situated at this point in the game than in the past when we've had a coaching change.5 points

So he is an expert because he retweets when kids get offered? I am confused.5 points

You having to make a telephone call might have been cutting edge service in the 1950s, it is seen as a huge inconvenience among the younger alumni, exactly the people we should be courting into the lower levels of the MGC. People in their 20s today see email as an old technology. If it's not pushed to them on social media, it's not going to register with our young alumni. ETA: I am glad someone at the ticket office was able to help you, the percentage of young alumni who will go through the inconvenience of making that call is pretty low. We should be selling to them, not making them jump through hoops. I can guarantee you SL is not sitting in his office saying "If someone wants to play for North Texas they can always just call us if they are real players." He is out selling and promoting like a madman.5 points

Teams like TX Tech went to the spread when they finally realized they were not going to recruit the same type of player that UT and A$M were. It was a system that allowed them to be successful against the bigger boys. I like Muhammad's DB film. Let's give the young man a chance as well as this coaching staff.4 points

They're also # 1 because they have 18 3-Star recruits.4 points

Next year's squad should be the most talented in a while. The question will be if we can get a new coach in time to win with them.4 points

False. The spread/air raid/run and shoot was invented for the exact opposite reason.4 points

This is what EVERYONE - not just AD/football types at UNT - needs to understand. When you are promoting a product or service or really want to recruit employees, players, consumers, whatever - you need to use THEIR avenues to do so. If the attitude is "If they want it badly enough, let them come find out and get it," then you should expect to lose to ANY sort of competition, EVERY time. And in my eyes, that's a refusal to actually do your job if your job involves being competitive in any way for resources, including human resources. And I'm not actually even bitching about the same thing most of you guys are, because I REALLY have had to deal with this crap in so many situations, and have had supervisors in the past refuse to let me do things the right way because they had that sort of attitude, but then would try to accuse me of being responsible for overall dips in revenue. I can't decide if it's a pathological need to create friction so as to generate hostilities for those who thrive on it, or stupidity or laziness, or some combination thereof, but it's a load of crap and everyone who operates this way deserves to either be out of a job or, if they are a business owner, deserves to go out of business for good.4 points

Kinda my thoughts, but I'm waiting to see the full class before making any judgements. You also have to remember Littrell had 3 weeks to put together a FULL class. Mac should have been fired when he stopped recruiting last spring.4 points

Yeah, it is no big deal if you don't have other things going on in your life that you need to schedule around. For example, if it IS April 23, that is the First Day of Passover and our Jewish friends might want to know that. Or, the Dallas Pops Orchestra features Chris Botti so if you have tickets for the 23rd, you may still be able to exchange your tickets for the 22nd or the 24th. Just little stuff like that. Let me add that I am particularly interested in getting the vibe from the spring game because I personally will not make my decision to renew MGC membership and four season tickets until after the game. I want to see what a Littrell-coached offense might look like and how the players he has to work with will fit into that. After more than 25 years, it is like making love to a skunk...I've about had all I can enjoy. So, while the Spring Game isn't H U U U G E, it is important to me and any others here of like mind.4 points

Seeing his tweets and how many local players he seems to know, is English our best recruiter now? Reminding me of Trice.4 points

Gotta keep those high expectation having pissants away from the new coach.4 points

That Derek Thompson tweet was so petty and such a weak jab. The dude can't go to a football game with a hot Aggie girl without getting crap from a grown ass man. If he thought he was being funny he needs to know it's not.4 points

I have always said that, if you can get an 18 year old man to step foot on our campus and walk him around during a school day, we can recruit anyone.4 points

You will get an email from the AD one week in advance. Of course, the date and time for the game will be wrong. Lol. (I mean, it was teed up. If I didn't take the swing, someone else would have).4 points

Looking forward to this happening. You gotta think that if Harrell is going to visit twice, then he's interested in offering.3 points

From a recruiting standpoint, there is nothing impressive about this pickup on the coaching staff. It's early, and they pretty much get a free pass this class, but they haven't shown anything that most coaches would have trouble pulling off. Getting kids with few or zero other FBS offers (like in this case) is that no matter how good the player turns out, it is not an example of good recruiting. Anyone can get a kid when they're his only offer. If he turns out good then you're looking at a case of successful EVALUATION. As long as they're doing a good job winning recruiting battles, one to a few of these guys a class are okay. But they need to prove they can win recruiting battles consistently.3 points

According to his scout profile it seems that he only played DB for 1 season. I'm not a DB coach or anything but looked like he had some talent there. Seems like a guy that could really benefit from a redshirt to get another year of experience at the position and could be at least a good nickel corner in the future.3 points

FIFY Come on now,...a weeks notice? You know better than that. This is the same group that sent an email to MGC members notifying them to be sure and watch one of our golfers play in the upcoming U.S. Open. Problem was....the U.S. Open had already occurred the week before. Rick3 points
