  2. Stop posting this crap. Yeah...our QB and offense are having issues. Be loyal and show up.

  3. I've always wondered what it's like to live in North Korea and be completely brainwashed by the authorities... Watching the Longhorn Network gives me a good idea as to what that experience might be like.

  4. I don't get why people forget how bad the offense was last year. We never threw to brelan. We didn't do much against good teams. Defense and special teams scored points to save us.

  5. You can't do anything offensively when you have some of the worst QB play in NT history.........

  7. It would be stupid to start anyone but Greer. It will be a totally different atmosphere, he won't be running for his life, we ought to be able to run the ball more consistently. All of those things make it a completely different game for a QB and should be a more realistic view of what we will see for most of the season.

  8. That's not enrirely true. What makes it really hard recruiting a qb here is that Coach Mccarney wants tall qbs. He wants a 6'3"+ qb who can run the offense and make throws from the pocket, without wanting to scramble and improvise. Basically what Thompson was. Recruiting a qb here is hard enough, like you said. You need a qb to fall through the cracks and not get offered by the big schools, so that you either only have to beat out a few lower-level schools to land the kid, or no other schools at all. Problem is, when a qb is 6'3"+ all of the big schools are going to give him a look. If a QB is 6'3"+ and is clearly a good qb, proving he plays like a D1 qb and doesn't just look like one, then he's going to have tons of offers from big schools. Now sometimes if a QB is 6'1" or shorter he can be a good player yet still get passed up by the big schools for taller qbs. Kellen Moore fell to Boise State because he was 6' even. Jordan Lynch fell to Northern Illinois because he was 6' even. The best qb in our conference, Rakeem Cato fell to Marshall because, you guessed it, he's 6' tall. I'm not saying good, tall qbs can't slip through the cracks to us, but it certainly is harder than a quality short qb getting passed up and falling to us. Hopefully Greer (and Mcnulty) prove last night was an aberration. But when a 6'5" qb who played for a strong-metroplex high school and a nationally ranked JUCO only has offers from schools like FIU, UAB, and us, you have to wonder why. Hope last night didn't prove why. Best thing we can do is support Greer and Mcnulty and cheer like crazy for them next week. Still plenty of time to improve.

  9. How can you NOT be surprised by our QB play? So you were expecting 3 completions and 4 INTs? And stop with the woe is me UNT recruiting crap. Do you realize how many FCS schools in TX crank out better QBs year after year than we have?

  10. You had a great day. Keep up your conditioning.

  15. I truly have never seen worse QB play out of a unt team than I did from this game.

  16. Still McNulty And maybe still a better option than Greer Let that sink in

  17. Last time SMU came to Denton we gave an athletic african-american QB a shot and he torched them. I'm not sayin...

  18. He has been here for a full year. If he hasn't gotten it by now, dismiss him from the team. Understand what I am saying. If you believe he is the best player at his position, yet you downgrade him to third team because he doesn't put in the work, then he is already affecting your team in a negative way, so play him or dismiss him and give the scholarship to someone who can help the team. It isn't rocket science.

  19. I'd start Greer, but if a change is needed mid game , you give DW or Means a shot. The staff has had 3 years w/ lil Mac and he's not going to win us any ball games IMO

  20. This just needs to stop. I hate making it sound like I'm ungrateful for what DT did for us or how he absolutely maximized his ability for us, but he had more interceptions than touchdowns in conference play last year. Our qb recruiting has been suspect and last night was probably the worst qb play I've ever seen in a D1 game. We lost a qb who was average, statistically. The hope was that we could improve a position where we were average and get an upgrade at the most important position. We aren't going to take a step up as a program with average qb production. Obviously last night showed average is better than awful. But in the long run they really aren't that different. Really wonder what this fan base would make a guy out to be if he were an all-conference qb.

  21. The silver lining is we didnt show SMU a damn bit of offensive tape to study. Rick

  22. you are right, we have pathetic fans that expect nothing from our coaches or BOR. Tell you what pal, the pathetic fans are the ones that sit back and make excuse after excuse for losing seasons, laughable athletic budgets, piss poor home schedules etc. Did I expect to win? NO. however, I do expect to have a respectable showing, no matter who we play. Grow a f'ing pair of balls and expect more than just subpar, is that too much to ask?

  24. Derek Thompson was a good QB. He wasn't legendary or anything like that, but time will be kind to his legacy.

  25. Greer: 2 of 11, 8 total yards and 2 INT's McNulty: 1 of6, 7 total yards and 2 INT's Mind boggling! Not to mention they were loading 8 and 9 players in the box, playing straight man and still have these numbers. It's amazing our RB's had as many yards and did as well as they did!

  26. We need to be one of the most improved teams in college football this week. — Dan McCarney (@NTCoachMac) August 31, 2014 He knows our performance against UT was unacceptable and will right the ship this week. Have faith. Bring people to the SMU game. Go Mean Green.

  27. We got beat 38-7. However, UT started drives on UNT's own 17, 31, and midfield twice. Not to mention that they started drives on their own 42 & 47. We also gave up a pick-6. We only gave up 354 total yards of offense to what will probably be the biggest, most physical offense we will play this year. They only converted 26% of their 3rd down attempts (4-15). And Ash only completed 55% of his passes going 19-34, of which 4-6 of those were roll-out 3 yard routes. Our young D line held UT inside the one yard-line on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and goal when UT was trying to bulldoze their way into the end-zone. Ash ended up sprinting to the pylon on 4th and goal, and almost didn't make it. We turned UT over twice and James Jones was about 6 inches from making it 3 times on the route he attempted to jump. We got to Ash on 2-3 occasions for sacks and knocked him down several other times. The D should have driven him into the ground on a couple of those QB hurries rather than love tapping him to the ground. They played well, but could have played nastier. Nasty is fine if played within the rules, and they could have made Ash legally hurt. This defense pending injuries will be ranked 1-2 in CUSA by seasons end and it will allow us to hang around every game remaining on our schedule. The ball is in Chico's (and Mac's) court. There is a silver lining in all of this. I just hope we still get a great showing next Saturday and give this team (defense) a chance. GMG

  30. Don't think DT ever had more interceptions than completions. Get back to me after 3 more games and lets see if you still don't miss DT. That guy took more crap from an ungreatful fanbase than any successful QB at UNT. And the thing is, he was NEVER put in a position to be anything than what he was due to the offense that he ran. Just sad that people still refuse to acknowledge his accomplishments.

  31. McNulty a dual threat? Don't you have to be able to pass to be considered a dual threat?

  32. Our QBs couldn't even throw the game without it bouncing 5 yards short.

  33. Pegram looked the best to me. He was undoubtedly the toughest runner willing to lower his head with anybody UT had.
    4 points
  34. Maybe, but you always saw him stand in there and hold the ball as long as possible and take the hit to give the WR time to find separation. That's how he broke his leg at West Point. His delivery might have been off sometimes but he never looked like he was crapping his pants, and that's what we will miss this year. Rick

  35. no, you are wrong. canales needs to have a heart to heart with DMac and TELL him who the starting QB is, the one with the best chance of winning. F this damn bus driver crap.

  36. I agree. They kept this from being 77-0.

  37. That's horse****. We (the fans) pay good money to go to these games and buy merchandise. Did I expect a win against UT...not really. What I did expect was to be entertained by a good showing. What I saw was one of the most embarrassing offensive performance I have ever seen. The fans deserve better. Why should I pay more money to go see that again?

  38. I don't know why we didnt see DW. Everyone still think replacing DT is a snap? Dear TFLF, this game is a great illustration of why you need to be able to throw a forward pass. We can't. SMU could be ugly at home.
    4 points
  39. That is worse than inept. North Texas would have been far better off not even playing a quarterback at all and snapping directly to the running backs.
    4 points
  40. Playing conservative had nothing to do with this. We had no other option besides running the ball because every pass was an INT almost. Still confusing why after the half we didn't see Williams once it was clear that neither QB could play.

  41. Can our defense play QB? I vote that.
    4 points
  42. This is mind boggling on how we can play two quarterbacks who can literally not throw the ball but not give Dajon a chance....

  43. So what if we really don't have a QB who can play? What do we do? Wildcat?

  44. I promise you, neither have been hit tonight as hard as Thompson got hit at Georgia. Rick

  45. Now wait a minute, home openers sell themselves. Rick

  46. Because he's a dual-threat qb. Dual-threat qbs are more prone to turnovers. We need a game-manager so we keep our turnovers and interceptions down.
