yup... this is going to be a fast boring game with the running backs probably getting 65% of the touches on both sides for this game... i think both coaches know that this game is going to be won in the trenches... the funny thing is, our O-Line vs their D-Line is going to be a matchup of two very good units, while their O-Line vs our D-Line is going to be a battle of two unproven units... let's just hope our d-line surprises like it did last year.6 points

Something something the athletic department should be taking care of this themselves. Whatevs. Good on the College of Business for getting proactive. Hosting a tailgate and everything!6 points

I just don't see it as a "backhanded" article & title when they're just quoting the coach. The media is always going to use headlines that grab attention, and that does it. It's not necessarily the DMN's opinion. I definitely agree with retiring the "woe was me" routine.5 points

Were that the case, the email surely would've included a meandering statement about how unfair the fans were to Derrick Thompson.5 points

Anyone still interested in season tickets? Minis? Groups? Single games? Give me a call or an email. I really want to hit 32k for this game. Let's do this! Go Mean Green! 940-369-5380 eddie.delgado@unt.edu4 points

The issue I have with this is there is no way to get in the club. I would be completely behind this if they said, ok here are the rules to be P5: XX millions in budget, attendance, stadium size, athlete subsidies, etc. A clear list of requirements for schools. If UNT/CUSA offer the exact same thing why can't we have equal footing and get in on the big money? It's complete *%$#! that we are automatically pushed out from the start.4 points

It wasn't a slight though. They were talking about Cole Beasley and how good he is even being small. Plus Lance and Brelan are small. You dont have to be big to be awesome football players.4 points

From Vito's latest update: “We are pleased that the NCAA Governance Redesign Model was adopted today by the NCAA Board of Directors. We extend our congratulations to Dr. Nathan Hatch and to the NCAA Steering Committee for its excellent work in designing a model that we believe will enjoy broad acceptance. We also appreciate the exemplary efforts of our NCAA Board representative, Dr. John Hitt of UCF, and our Conference Board chair, Dr. Gerald Turner of SMU, who were deeply engaged in this process. Our conference membership supports the new governance model and the opportunities it will present to enhance the student-athlete experience and student-athlete welfare. Our presidents and athletic directors are steadfast in their commitment to these ideals and also to providing our student-athletes with the ability to compete at the highest level of collegiate athletics.” – American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco In other words, Mike Aresco would like to welcome our new benevolent overlords.4 points

Competition is a bitch, no? Complain all you want about McCarney not handing the starting QB job to Berglund or Dajon, but the man makes people compete for a job. I like that. And, so should you.3 points

Right. Mac knows that last season was a blip on a flatline for this program. Beat some big opponents. Become nationally ranked. Win CUSA championships. Those are the goals now; That's the next level. Start accomplishing those and maybe the conversation about adding the second deck on the student side won't be as laughable as it's been in the past. I agree 100% with him that there are still many more goals to reach as a program. Last year was incredibly fun for hardcore Mean Green fans. We need seasons that are incredibly fun for currently completely disconnected students and alums as well as DFW area potential fans. I highly doubt Mac wants his legacy at UNT to be, "Yeah, we had a couple winning seasons after a decade of losing." He wants to put this program on the map.3 points

"When I got here we didn't have newspaper articles. Hell, none of the players could read anyway so it wouldn't have mattered. Luckily I won three literary national championships at Florida so I founded the Dallas Morning News as soon as I arrived."3 points

So anxious about this season! I PRAY that we have a .500+ season and make Mac's W/L at UNT better than .500 as well.3 points

Man oh man, that was a fun read. Who will they have playing receiver..... The TE's? UNT just needs to come into Austin and smack those T-sips right I'm the mouth and roll from there.3 points

A guy on the CUSA board said this and I agree. Any reason this can't happen? "The P5 schools should lose their tax exempt status and have to pay income tax on the profits. The donations would no longer be tax deductible so i assume the donations would dry up quickly. If the P5 want to act like a professional league they should have to abide by the tax laws governing for profit corporations or partnerships."3 points

This is great news about Smiley. Replacing Brelan and Darnell Smith is a top priority. Coming out of spring practice and the spring game, my vote for Darnell's replacement was Cameron Brown #87.2 points

Very good article. He has a valid point. I think he will stop making comments like that when we have 3 seasons of being a top tier team in the conference. one down, two to go.2 points

We can only hope that we stay injury free. Ash returning is huge for them even if he is injury prone. With their high powered running game, we will still have our hands very FULL2 points

That's a quote from Coach Mac in the article. He's made that statement more than once. Eventually he will have to stop making statements like that for us to not be perceived that way. It's all about perception, and having your coach make those statements puts that bug in peoples' ears. Positive talk = positive perception. Of course, winning helps too.2 points

Zach was playing inside linebacker in the 4th. The plays I was able to see mainly went to the other side of the field. I did see him get some pressure on a blitz on one play.2 points

Love seeing Rutherford on there and that "Wow" for Terrell. No DW, hope it's just a blip to give the B-day boy a S/O and we will see him back up there next practice.2 points

Okay damnit. I told you pro playoff effers that when you got what you wanted, you would not like what you would get. We had a perfect bowl system with a mythical national champion and everyone got a chance to play during the holidays while having a big party for alumni which was a perfect opportunity for school pride and fund raising. Humans voted for the mnc and everyone got to debate the results and it did not matter. Now there will eventually be a 16 team playoff that we and other G5 teams will not be invited to. And if you think that there will be bowls for the rest, who the hell will sponsor that and who the hell will watch? While we probably did have too many bowls, the fact that there will be so few chances for post season play is going to insure that the top 16 teams will turn the rest into the Washington Generals of cfb. And that is referring to the lower p5 also. The rest of us? Relegated to bowls that will not bring broadcast money? Our own playoff? Oh boy! Maybe we could set up a doubleheader in Frisco with dublay!!!. I will be a fan of the Mean infinitely, but those of you who wished for playoffs just saw your wish heading to fruition. And that will eventually put us in the place that we dread, 2nd tier.2 points

Say what you want about Ricky V., but this interview was great, I thought his responses on scheduling were very realistic and up front... I hope he continues to be upfront about what the reality of the situation with UNT football is... also... VERY CLEAR, that people in the AD are spending WAY too much time on this forum2 points

Numerous big plays in the spring. http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/john_chelf_847238.html Climbed to 2nd string on the depth chart. Put on scholarship at the end of spring ball. 3 for 3 on Chico “shout outs” this fall. I take the University of Iowa Transfer John Chelf. There is a really good chance he is the surprise spark we are looking for on offense this year.2 points
