  1. Man that was a Jimmy Johnson Herschel Walker type trade for the Taliban, do we at least get some draft picks?

  2. Current student here. Just to throw in my two cents. I hope they use black in the uniforms more this year if there are new ones. I really feel like a lot of my fellow friends/students like the way the black looks with the green. It just pops more than the white. I'm not expecting Oregon type unis but a little more variety would be great

  3. Our new conference is fine for us--its the best we've ever had by a mile in the modern era of college football. But Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, and Marshall are the best known teams in the league from a reputation standpoint and all three are in small markets within smal populated states that give 99% of their attention to the big AQ schools in their state. Its a huge stepup from the SBC in prestige, but its waaayyyy behind the AAC and the MWC on the conference ladder. A good conference doesn't add FCS startups to their league when they didn't belong there already in the other sports (i.e. South Florida, UAB, or UConn). The new SBCUSA added a ton of Belt teams, but when you throw in UTSA in just its second year of FBS football and then prepare to add in Charlotte and Old Dominion, while replacing East Carolina, Tulsa, and Tulane and all those who ran off to the AAC before we even got invited, its pretty easy for any media outlet to look down on that league--until they do something about it to change their minds.

  4. . --- We sent him over so we should bring him back ... even if he is in chains or put into a mental hospital (he may be nuts and couldn't handle combat) ... This is not the best deal we have ever made but we had those guys for 10 years in Gitmo. I'm guessing that once Obama took office he realized Gitmo really did serve as purpose but it is nothing like when he took office with 100's there and waterboarding taking place.... I'm also guessing he wasn't fully informed about him either ....First the media and White house was considering him a hero as well as his hometown which has since cancelled their welcome home activities..... Interesting that his section commander supports bring him home saying the military doesn't leave military people behind. ..Lock him up if he was a deserter and not nuts. Your suggestions... that or something similar may be happening... we just aren't told. I'm guessing we will know who they contact (their buddies may be dead) . The currently actives may steer way clear of them because of that.

  6. This is crazy conjecture but truthfully, nobody (other than Bergdahl) knows how or why Bergdahl left his post. Nobody knows (other than him and the scum Taliban) what he went through as a prisoner in a scum bag camp, and certainly nobody knows what the 5 released scum bag Taliban will do once in Qatar (other than them..and they may not know now). So everthing said about this is political bull shit. Really. What we KNOW is that a U.S. soldier went missing and showed up as a prisoner in a scum bag camp. We had the opportunity to trade some scum bags for a U.S. soldier and did. That's all we know.

  7. Typical. Just calling names. And it's not being naive, it's called not being a knee jerk reactionary to anything and everything that happens. And spare me the faux outrage on this. This is not that big of a deal. But please continue on with your tin-foil hat ideas about how this guys is a terrorist now.

  8. Wow. This took longer than I thought it would to show up here. I think we shouldn't rush to prejudge this. We don't know how this is going to shake out yet, he may very well be "investigated" and taken to military trial. As for making the deal, why not do it? The war in Afghanistan is winding down, we have been holding those captives for a very long time now, we have most likely got all the information out of them that we are going to get. We are not just going to hold those guys indefinitely, and we can't try them on U.S. soil. And I'm pretty sure several of our drones will be keeping a very close eye on these guys. I don't think this is a great tragedy that some people are making it out to be, but I don't think it's some great victory like other people are making it out to be. We shall see.

  13. From Russian to Bergdahl we see that McCain, as we already knew, is one of the biggest hypocrites in politics..but they all are. We need to get rid of full-time politicians and we need less government. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/06/05/maddow-jabs-mccain-hypocrisy-on-bergdahl-the-rosetta-stone-of-whats-wrong-in-d-c/

  15. Anytime someone says we are going to miss DT, they are pretty much saying the qbs we have are going to suck. To miss DT, that means there will be lots of turnovers, possibly for TDs the other way, and more ints than TDs. Pretty much predicting these guys downfall and saying they are below average. Not even ready for a D1 football field. im going to give them more credit.

  16. About Bergdahl: Dude's probably a deserter. It's probably a damned good idea to bring him back and try him under the UCMJ so he gets the punishment he deserves. It's also probably a good idea to get him back so he doesn't cough up any more useful information to the Taliban than he may already have. About the released detainees: The US seems to be ceasing formal hostilities, which means that these guys have to be let go per the Geneva Convention (and yeah, this wasn't a declared war and the Taliban is a non-state actor). The other thing these guys are - they're potential intelligence assets, and not because of what they know. It's who they know and who those people know. If it were me, I'd put people and drones on these guys from the day they start their year in Qatar until they die. Who they talk to, where they go, and what they do can be great information. So while these guys may be squeezed empty of useful information, their contacts back home are not. This means both contacts US intelligence knows about and more importantly, ones that are yet to be revealed and ones yet to be created. I figure these guys are going to go right back to work or they're gonna be killed by their own people. Might as well work both to US advantage.

  17. Yes, when there are only 49,995 (+) and they have one of our guys, that's not really newsworthy. We'd rather talk about an Arizona VA hospital. But I tell ya what, you release 5 more to get our guy back and make that number 50,000 (+) .... I mean to tell ya, that's not jokeyable, that's serious shiut!

  19. Do we know Sgt. Bergdahl is a deserter? No. Do we know he aided the enemy? No. Are Taliban considered "high-ranking" on any scale? No. We also don't know if he's a good guy, but he did serve his country. If he left his post by choice, and we don't know that, we still have to determine if he did it as a planned event under sound mind (then he could be a deserter). If he was not of sound mind, then we have to find out why. If his mental issues are due to military activity, he's a wounded warrior. There are a lot of factors to figure out besides just ignorantly determining this guys status, intentions, and consequences without all facts. Thoughts?

  20. Do you really think of MIT, Harvard, Yale, Cal Tech, Columbia, Georgetown or Johns Hopkins as 2nd class universities? And I've never heard anyone suggest Alabama or LSU as top schools in any academic field. In fact, when Mizzu and A&M joined the SEC, they DOUBLED the number of AAU schools in the conference. UT's athletic budget dwarfs every other school in Texas including A&M. Most of the schools in what is now the P5 conferences have had huge advantages in all athletics since the 1930s. They are also the one's facing lawsuits over the student athletes being paid. The P5 schools are now facing a very different set of problems than the rest of the 300 plus Division 1 schools. Giving them more autonomy doesn't really change the advantages they already have and have had for 70 years and gives them a chance to fix the problems they have. I really don't think the P5 wants to break away completely. Just look at the 16 teams left in the baseball playoffs and 7 of the 16 are NOT from the P5. The TV ratings for non P5 teams in the NCAA basketball playoffs shows a HUGE demand. Neither of those tournaments would be nearly as popular without everyone playing, at least according to the TV ratings. Let the P5 schools have the flexibility to solve their own unique problems. Everything else will be roughly the same as it's been for a long, long time.

  22. Our goal should be athletics at the highest level. Anything less reflects badly on the university. Sadly, most people perceive UT, TAMU, LSU, & OU as 1st class universities. When we play UT or TAMU some of that perception rubs off on us. If the mega-conference formally separate from the rest of the NCAA the perception among the ill-informed will be that UT is a real university & UNT is something less.

  36. Didn't say it was the #1 reason, but if folks don't think that at the very least lured them into interest then people are naive. High school kids are more metro and materialistic than ever before. It's the direction the younger generation is heading at THIS present time. Make the most of it and adapt. That's all I'm saying. As for the argument of Alabama. They don't have to change uniforms, they just hand out cars & cash.

  42. UNT90 - we will have to agree to disagree...again...too bad. I really felt we connected on the "bad beard" thread...plus my sister had a Chevette! ha *remember every year corporations spend millions & millions trying to design better products, better logos with better fonts, better slogans with better copy & better packaging to influence the end consumer to buy into what they are selling. It's Marketing 101. What makes a school or it's football team any different? North Texas is selling a product.
    1 point
  43. UNT90 - so....your parents bought a Ford Edsel and young UNT90 bought a Ford Pinto because of Ford Motor Company's winning tradition? I personally don't want North Texas to look like a mid major Edsel...I would prefer North Texas to be a P5 ass kicking Mustang. design is part of the equation

  47. The war is wondong down? You honestly tjink the 5 guys that were released believe that? Seriously? When the enemy still is fighting, the war isn't over or "winding down." And there is a good possibility we just released 5 leaders to further their cause while transporting a conditioned terrorist into the USA to do their dirty work. Shocking how naive some people are on this forum.
