And for some odd reason the kids being recruited care about things like uniforms, facilities, perception, image, as well as winning. It's so weird.3 points
-
Well, yeah, and so is consistency. Why don't we just keep redesigning every year until we hit 5 consecutive 8+ win seasons. Then we can stop because whatever logo we are at, it will be genius and good for the long haul. Sarcasm aside, I wish we'd stop re-branding under the guise of "the kids like this". The kids like winning. The rest will take care of itself. I hope we're not spending too much money on this other stuff.3 points

I suspect the interlocking NT will make an appearance soon, but on a different kind of helmet.3 points
-
That's the best part about them. Love those helmets! But if we go with the SOW full-time next season, I'll be more than content. "North Texas" belongs on the front of the jersey, not the side of the helmet.3 points

Is it just me that thinks the AD could have done a better job with this announcement graphic? I mean, will we ever decide on a color and stick with it? Consistantly?2 points

So if he's not a North Texas guy how did he and some random assistant coach come to strike up such an insightful conversation?2 points

Well, for someone who claims to not care, I think he has the highest post count in a thread that he could just not read. Strange how that works...2 points

Though the source is shaky at best, I would consider this good news. I see alot of similarities between Greer and DT.2 points

Yeah, Southern Miss & La Tech must come back to form. CUSA is turning into a running joke. FAU needs to have a good year as well. Best case scenario would be for the conference to pull a couple P5 upsets the first couple weeks of the season. There are plenty of opportunities conference wide.2 points

Looks like LB is up to his old tricks having his agent leak "connections" to job openings hoping to get more money from his current employer. With the SEC's recent rant about creating a Division IV within the NCAA or going with the nuclear option of separating from the NCAA, what does the NCAA look like for football in the next five years? I suspect the Division IV will be a trial balloon to see if the AQs like what they see from the NCAA fiefdom. If they don't like what they get, they will leave. The NCAA cannot have them leave, if only because they will take the NCAA Tournament and College World Series with them, which covers a massive amount of the NCAAs budget. As if Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida, etc...didn't run this thing enough, now they are probably going to get their way with a tighter division with higher payouts for created bowls and playoffs. As for North Texas, what would it mean to us? Will we see a huge drop in attendance or will it be about the same? Would you expect to see different conferences start up if the AQs pull away fully from the rest of us, just to keep costs more controlled? Very interested to see what the board thinks this will mean for us, since the smoke is getting pretty thick concerning this Division IV setup.1 point

As a joke more than anything. It didn't become cool until they started winning big. Nobody was saying "that's awesome" about their blue field when we beat them three times in the old Big West.1 point

Our new conference is fine for us--its the best we've ever had by a mile in the modern era of college football. But Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, and Marshall are the best known teams in the league from a reputation standpoint and all three are in small markets within smal populated states that give 99% of their attention to the big AQ schools in their state. Its a huge stepup from the SBC in prestige, but its waaayyyy behind the AAC and the MWC on the conference ladder. A good conference doesn't add FCS startups to their league when they didn't belong there already in the other sports (i.e. South Florida, UAB, or UConn). The new SBCUSA added a ton of Belt teams, but when you throw in UTSA in just its second year of FBS football and then prepare to add in Charlotte and Old Dominion, while replacing East Carolina, Tulsa, and Tulane and all those who ran off to the AAC before we even got invited, its pretty easy for any media outlet to look down on that league--until they do something about it to change their minds.1 point

They didn't become popular for their uniforms, and they certainly didn't become popular for their hideous blue turf (which they had since the 80's). They became popular for being giant-killers.1 point

For me, I expected last year to be a good year going in---for basically all of the reasons that Vito mentions. I've never heard him come out and say this, but I'd bet Vito is a Phil Steele disciple, as well. Steele picks senior laden teams to win games. Whether or not they've shown the ability to do so in the past. He even picked our 2010 team (Dodge's last year) to be bowl eligible simply because it was so loaded with seniors. That team had a shot if it hadn't been bitten with the injury bug so badly. Either way, I can't see this year's team winning games simply because they won them last year and now have the "no-how" or experience of winning to spur them on. I remember thinking that would be the case going into 2005, and got punched squarely in the face. The reality is that there are some players that you cannot easily replace. That year it was Brewster, Hall, Jones, Buckles, and Spencer. This year it is going to be DT, Brelan, Abbe, Orr, and Trice. From the looks of things I expect DT and Abbe to be the toughest to replace this season. Orr's spot looks to be ok in Scott's hands and hopefully the combo of Warner and Evans can fill in for Trice capably enough. Brelan was electric, and will be hard to replace, but I think we do that with numbers. But who anchors the DL is a huge question mark. And then there's DT. I'm in the camp that he was a hot and cold QB with a ton of heart. Normally I'd think most teams would be able to replace him without expecting a huge drop-off, but in our case we come out of the spring with McNulty as our #1. I don't mean to slight the kid, but he scares the living crap out of me as a #1 due to all the bad turnovers we've seen from him when he's gotten into games. I think the key to this season will be finding that replacement for DT. We don't need the QB to win games single-handedly for us. He just can't beat us with bad turnovers. Depending on how this question is answered, this year's team could finish 4-8, or 8-4. The schedule is easier than last year, so that should help.1 point

Uniform options are a priority to recruits. I didn't create that theme, but it's a theme. So we have to adapt to the changing times or get left in the dust. It's not about fashion, it's about keeping up. Oh and bet your ass that Oregon has signed recruits based on uniform variety, guaranteed.1 point

Have them contact Steven Jones with the Dallas Cowboys. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN1 point

I like the expand the brand concept. If you put sleek Mean Green jerseys on some mannequins at the Rally House next to the Tech, TCU, OU uniforms I know some kids are going to think, "niiiiiiicccceeee. And they are winning right now." There is the loyalty fan and the fashion fan, and they don't always intersect. GMG1 point

Agreed. Having the DB's sit back 10 yards the entire game and letting them thow screens and other short passes. Drove down the field way to much and took way too much time. I honestly blame the loss more on the defense in the UTSA game1 point

AGREE TOTALLY. Like you & MGNation92 said, let's expand it & get a little creative. No where near Oregon creative, but more than what we have.1 point

I agree. I should clarify that my issues are with our helmets more than with the uniforms. I like the uniforms ok, but the helmets are terrible.1 point

I agree. I would also use black to outline the numbers on the current uniforms. Keep the black, make slight adjustments to the current green and white uniforms and put the eagle on the helmet. Still want bird poop helmet stickers.1 point

There was really only one game that truly gives me the red ass and that is UTSA. We tried to throw deep and killed drives several times. Vanilla would have won that game. DT and Chico lost that game.1 point
