  1. Just to add to this, I DID NOT play football at UNT, just a proud alumni, but however I am making the jump from tiny Honey Grove HS to coaching varsity safeties at Harker Heights HS near Killeen, TX. As always, I will do my best to direct studs to the great UNT.

  2. In 2013, in a seson where both Rice and UH were bowl participants (i.e., they were both good), the annual Bayou Bucket game was played at Reliant Stadium, a place that fits over 70,000 people, and resides in the SAME TOWN as both universities. The ANNOUNCED CROWD was less than half of capacity, just over 34k. Keep in mind, these two teams play each other every year, had been in the same conference for many, many years, and share the same coverage from the local press, unlike UNT and SMU in every single way. Yet this idiot thinks its says A LOT about both programs (SMU and UNT) that it might not be a sellout at our place. I'd venture a wager that a game at the Cotton Bowl between SMU and UNT would fill the damn place more than half and it seats 92k. I know it was a troll post--and a bad one, since only I have responded to it, but my goodness, even after a long layoff from posting, you still suck at this...

  3. I'm thinking either omelettes or breakfast tacos for the pregame tailgate then hotdogs for the post game and a dessert to be named later.

  4. I think the MT issue was more that they played dirty than that they played against one of the academies. It made them look worse to play that way against an academy, but they would have come out looking bad no matter who they played.

  5. Keep in mind that with the game starting at 11am, it's likely that the game will be over before the high is reached.

  6. I'm excited about the number of games we might have on Fox 1 or Fox Southwest. Looks like every match-up between the Texas teams will at least be avalible on Fox Southwest. It makes me wonder if RV and the other Texas AD's were able to sell Fox on a traveling trophy. As for the SMU game, I have no problem with an 11a.m. kickoff, especially if that is the difference between having the game aired on T.V. or not having it on T.V. Yes, I like 6 and 7p.m. kickoffs too, but 11a.m. will allow fans to see the game before the hottest part of the day. A 3p.m. kickoff would much hotter. Lets focus on the positives here, because there are several.

  7. Kind of surprised to not see North Texas @ Indiana somewhere on there. It's a respectable game that should be worthy enough for FS1.

  8. This means absolutely nothing beyond tin foil theories, but does anyone else find it ironic that our Board of Regents is currently chaired by an individual whose company is the largest reverse-auditing firm actively working against the State Comptroller? Cause I find it hilariously sad.

  9. I never tire of the constant excuses for why people can't be bothered to make it to Apogee. Everyone is welcome to join me at my tailgate at 8pm...Friday night. Demand big time...think small time!!

  12. Well sure, but it doesn't change that fact that I would prefer to play Academy-affiliated teams in non-military related bowls or on days other than those related to strong patriotic feeling.

  13. birdied the par 5 7th! even for the tourney now! today is -2 on the par 5's...total reversal from yesterday
    2 points
  14. Ok, and? As long as said non-affiliated fan is buying a seat in Apogee I'll welcome their patriotism as they root for the losing team.

  15. I don't know. Whenever you play one of the military academies on a National Holiday or a military/armed forces related bowl, and you're not the service academy, you're automatically the "bad guy". Even if people don't have an opinion at that particular school/team, a non-affiliated fan is going to root for the academy.

  16. May 29, 2014 Dear UNT faculty and staff members, Since my arrival in February I have shared information with our community about a series of challenges with our annual budget, our fiscal records, and with excess state benefits draws. I’ve also shared my belief that while the obstacles we face are significant, they are surmountable. We have made remarkable progress during the past few months and now have a vastly improved budgeting process that will put us on solid ground in years to come, and with the assistance of the UNT System and Deloitte & Touche, we will reconcile our financial records as soon as possible. In the spirit of continuing to be open and transparent with our entire community, I wanted you to hear directly from me that following an internal investigation aided by the Texas State Auditor’s Office, the UNT System disclosed that UNT drew about $83M more in state benefits than we were entitled to receive over the past 10 years. I believe an ongoing investigation by the state auditor will help UNT gain a better understanding of how and why such errors were made. Meanwhile, UNT System and state officials will discuss how this past funding imbalance can be fairly addressed in the future without reducing our academic and student success. While we’re still learning more about how this serious lapse occurred and how the funds were allocated, it appears that the funds were used to support UNT’s educational mission, to keep up with nearly a decade of significant enrollment growth, to increase the number of graduates and to expand student support services. We’ve taken steps to ensure that we no longer draw excess state benefits, so our current budget is not impacted by this error. Our Fiscal Year 2015 budget planning, already in progress, includes only state benefits for which we’re eligible. With our new budget process in place, and strong revenues, I don’t anticipate we will need further budget cuts. I can assure you that UNT is financially solid and we are prepared to deal with the possible outcomes of the System’s disclosure. Given our significant contribution to closing the state’s education gap and the large number of students we graduate into the Texas workforce, I don’t believe the state of Texas intends to compromise our ability to continue our mission. Everyone at UNT is committed to ensuring the quality of our students’ education each and every day. None of that will be compromised by this challenge and, in fact, we are more committed than ever to providing the best support, service and educational experience for our students. Challenges often offer opportunities to make institutions stronger and more focused. Our community is strong and resilient, and I know UNT will emerge from this challenge stronger than ever. Sincerely, Neal Smatresk President

  25. So his argument is that it is a privilege for the smaller schools to get to play the big schools and how great is it for those players. That's so considerate of him.

  33. Could not find anything about this guy playing under Dodge or at UNT. He does have a YouTube channel with some QB drills. I did find a DT named Chris Olson who played with Steven Jyles in a Canadian league. Also, there was a Chris Olson who coached football at Bastrop (The Bears). I could not find any details or photos. That was in 2010, I believe, and I think is the same Olson this article is referring to. I know some posters collect programs and might be able to shed any available light.

  34. The UNLV fans code of conduct at Sam Boyd Stadium mentions among the prohibitions as "...the irresponsible use of alcohol." Of course, alcohol is served in the Club Level and in the Suites so I would think the University President won't go thirsty if so inclined. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

  36. Big 10 controls broadcast rights for Indiana game, not CUSA. Good to see that, so far, 5 of 6 road games are on TV. Since I am local, home games are not as much a concern for me.

  37. Right, and I think if the State demands any kind of recuperations, Mr. Ryan's firm will be able to flip it to where the state actually owes UNT more money.

  38. One should hope not. That's what we said the last time we hijacked one of their online polls about a year ago. 9-4 season with a bowl win, minor increase in DMN coverage...pretty sure the season was the only reason for the increase. I think the DMN has pretty much proved that there isn't much we, as a fanbase, can do to "encourage" them, short of perhaps pissing in their cereal. In related news, does anyone know what kind of cereal they eat at their office?
