The students on the basketball team have my support the same as other teams on campus. I donate to the MGC. I admire your positivity, but don't share it. If the team wants me to show up regularly at games, they, the coaches and the athletic department has to earn it. It's a long drive from where I live on a weekday. Been willing to make it the past several years, and may be willing to make it again. But, it's time to give up that hassle, for now. I'll keep up and read about it in the paper and on this board, but I no longer need to watch in person to know where the problems lie.4 points

Well... At least we tied the mighty UT in draft picks. UT and their t-shirt fans can suck it. I hope we smack them in the mouth the first game next season.4 points

Great news. Very nice young man, as all the Orr kids are. P1, it matters to UNT because we have another connection into a talent rich program. It matters because we currently have an offer out to Chris Orr, Terrance's little brother. And it matters because some of us just like the Orr family, so suck it!2 points

Right the NFL used to have 17 rounds in the draft. So the players that would have been taken in those last 10 rounds are now taken as undrafted players. This year ,so far, West Texas has had 7 players signed.2 points

Considering I emailed Rivals 2 years ago, and they admitted to raising and lowering stars ratings based on who a player signed with or who was recruiting them and not on an evaluation or a projection of their potential, I disreguard their ratings as BS below the 4 star level. I would rather wait and see how a player performs over his career. I could put together a long list of players that were highly rated and never did much on the college level.2 points

Who is probably a better basketball coach than Benford.2 points

I'll be excited once November rolls around and another campaign starts because hope springs eternal. In the more realistic offseason wait, I have little interest in next season.2 points

Can we F'n fire this disaster already? Good God!! I doubt Combs ever takes the floor for this team. Thanks RV for allowing this disaster to happen when everyone but apparently YOU knew he should have been gone after year 1. Maybe you come on a podcast and blame the players again?2 points

nice John Wiley Price response. Lots of BS with absolutely no intelligent meaning. Play your stupid cop games with others but you are very transparent. Glad you are only a cop.2 points

A long time ago, when I was young, it was 17 rounds. Oh, concerning the number of players signed by the NFL from WT this year - 7 - that ain't bad for a Div II school. WT has played good football for a number of years now. When I can't go to Denton on Saturdays I watch WT. They're a lot of fun. Fans are more civilized too.1 point

Thursday games were a beat down to make before the I35E construction started. Things need to improve (in Denton) before I make that drive on a regular basis for next basketball season.1 point

I really hope a ton of season ticket holders don't renew. It's the best way to send a message to an AD that I'm sure doesn't care that the continued head in the sand behavior is unacceptable. The AD won't feel pressure any other way.1 point

You can have a very good C-USA team without having a bunch of players drafted every year. Funny that you used two of the players Coach Mac inherited as possible draft-drought breakers.1 point

I would assess the situation as follows: A high school coach brought a high school staff to coach college talent, and was terrible at the job. Lance Dunbar is playing in the NFL. Brelan and Zach were Dodge recruits. Are they part of the smallest, slowest team in FBS? After 3 years of Macball, have you taken the time to look at the size of this year's d-line? Yes, you are completely buying a version of a line commonly used by head coaches taking over for coaches fired for poor performance. One from Charlie Strong was posted on this forum a week or two ago. It's what coaches say to lower fan expectation, this hopefully ensuring them of a longer time period to turn the program around. Everyone does it. You just happen to believe its true.1 point

What Mac said was never true??? You are right that I bought in hook line and sinker. After going 8 - 40 the 4 years prior to his arrival, what should have he said? How would you have assessed the situation? This year there were 76 players taken that were not from the big 5 conferences. It is pretty much that way every year. The fact that we haven't had a single player taken in years makes a pretty harsh statement.1 point

If true, how many freshman has Benford been able to recruit and successfully get into the court -- ZERO???1 point

Tournaments are always hosted by the conference, not the host school. The host school may provide additional man power to try to help run the tournament as smoothly as possible but they don't do any of the promotions or anything else like that.1 point

Well, I might have a reason to watch a Chargers game for the first time ever next year. Didn't Chico coach Philip Rivers too?1 point

Remember the recruiting of the Great Darrell Dickey. We didn't know who was signing until signing day. Darrell didn't want his commitments known lest the big boys come and take them away. It still happened. I feel much better about recruiting now because this is a seasoned staff who knows what they are doing. Who cares if your weakest offers accept immediately? That won't make your recruiting class any stronger. Accept only the higher rated commitments early. They might influence others. But, if you accept early from those who you could probably get anytime then you can box yourself in if a strong 3-star should get denied by a P5 and decide that you're the best alternative. I only noticed one UTSA commitment that we offered. Maybe it's degree of talent or maybe it's just position. At my last count we had offered 12 offensive linemen, 11 defensive linemen and 10 wide receivers. The linemen are our greatest needs since we lost all four starters on the defensive line last year and will lose four starters from the offensive line after this year. So who cares if someone in our conference beats us to a quarterback, running back or tight end. Plus, look at the ratings of the commitments. Are they considered highly-rated? Who will have the stronger class when the signed LOIs are in? Until proven otherwise, my money's on this coaching staff.1 point

So what does it suggest when a D1 University goes year after year after years without a player being drafted? I pointed out that the O-line may break the drought next year with Y'Barbo, Lemon, and Johnson. Many many players have made worthwhile contributions and played their hearts out while at UNT. The title of this thread was: UNT’s NFL Draft drought continues — quick thoughts I guess I should have said "I can;t believe we haven't had a bunch of players drafted over the past several years." I admit I'm a UNT homer and that my hypocrisy knows no bounds, but that might have been a little over the top.1 point

Doesn't look good. Maybe our crack award winning beat reporter can investigate. I am beginning to think that anyone that signs with Benford that has other options, has got issues that other schools don't want any part of. I hope that is not the case, Ahmed and Combs look like good pickups for the program.1 point

http://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/258pa8/no_texas_longhorns_were_taken_in_the_nfl_draft/ No Longhorns drafted either this year. Breaks the longest streak in football for having at least one player drafted every year.1 point

With coach Donnie Tyndall leaving Southern Miss to take the HC job at Tennessee, I wonder if Suarez wants to reopen his recruitment. He'd need to be let out of his LOI, but we did offer before he committed to USM. Just throwing it out there. http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-press-sports/2013/10/recruiting_southern_miss_picks_1.html http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Rasham-Suarez-145377 High school: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Rasham-Suarez-1113741 point

The NFL draft is about how players project at the next level. It's not about who you beat or didn't beat. Ya our guys had great production, but the measurables and skill set is somewhat lacking for the next level. Add that to the rep and that not a lot of scouts or analyst do their HW on our guys.1 point

Hmmm, +1 to UNT90 on his last speculation. I mean, Ball State and FAU haven't beaten us lately, except in the NFL draft.1 point

Robert Herron from Wyoming just selected. 5'9" 193 pound receiver. Honorable mention MWC all-conference last 2 seasons. Very similar to a better player that is still available... I'm really starting to wonder if UNT's football rep doesn't hurt our players in the draft.1 point
