Unless the guy is just lights out better than what you have, always redshirt a freshman QB. Giving them an extra year to learn the college game, adjust to the speed of the game, and learn the offense.4 points

Why the " God help us " reference? Sounds like a silly response. The coaching staff is a better judge of talent, so I trust their judgement on who is leading for the starting QB position. If Greer is the guy, then the job belongs to Greer. I think Greer is a good QB, and can lead this team. DW seems more liable for injury than Greer since DW is so thin as described by other posters. I have read many postings referencing this subject. Not performing during work outs, etc. I read that DW sprained his ankle yesterday. So where does DW fit in the scheme of things now? Is the injury severe enough to keep DW out of spring practice? McNulty is a good QB but is he good enough to push out Greer as the starting QB? McNultly will get more reps now if DW is out due to injury.3 points

Yes we would defend NATO member countries. I'll go into that later. I just heard a draw dropping statement from Jimmy Carter. He said bigger sanctions are needed, because the current ones are too weak. He also said a statement needs to be sent to Putin telling him that any further land acquisitions will be met with military means, and that ALL OPTIONS are on the table. When the host asked if we should be supplying arms to the Ukraine AND to the Crimeans who do not want to be part of Russia, he said yes, and pointed to himself doing so in Afghanistan. Today I Learned: UNT90 and Jimmy Carter are BFFs.3 points

This past season's offense was not the same as 2012. There were a lot of tweaks here and there. The play calling was also better this past season. Now as far as the run vs pass (especially on 1st down), it was not much difference. If people think "open up" the offense will result into more passing on 1st and 2nd down, then they will be very disappointed. I was frustrated by the predictable run plays on 1st down. In some ways, I understand it. An incomplete pass on 1st down almost guarantees a throw on 2nd and 3rd down. And possibly going against a nickel defense on 3rd and long. That is the last thing Mac and this staff wants to see. Not a knock on just DT. Our Wrs were average also. It's not like they got seperation or could go up and snatch a ball in double coverage. We just did not have that type of talent in our passing game. We threw safe passes. Not many quick slants or out patterns. Was it philosophy or because of personel? Maybe a little of both. Even if we upgrade at the QB position, we will still need to upgrade at WR if we want to see an offense that is comfortable with passing on any down and actually trying to convert on 3rd and long. I see a similar offense to last year at the start of the season. The new QB may be able to give us more options with possibly more running and quicker release. If the 2014 Wrs can come in and contribute, it may open things up later in the season, but for now, we do not have the speed nor depth at WR to be putting a lot of time in a passing offense.3 points

It seems that folks don't want Greer because he resembles DT. However, there's no reason why he couldn't be similar to DT but much better in the results. I'm fascinated by the athletic ability DW brings but I want the best QB to start.3 points

Travis, Todd Dodge sure missed the call on Jamize Olawale didn't he. Seems like Dodge missed on many key points of college football coaching. I liked Dodge, but he was in over his head here at North Texas. How many years of college football coaching and recruiting experience does Coach Mac have? How about OC Mike Canales college coaching experience? How about DC John Skladany? Coach Mac has sent many players to the NFL, so I would summarize Coach Mac knows college football talent. Canales and Skladany both have recruited and coached many NFL players . I trust their judgement too. These professional college football coaches have plenty of authority and experience to rely on, especially judging college football talent. The staff sure found a gem with CB Kenny Buyers, so why not with Josh Greer? The best player wins out, regardless if the player is a veteran, freshman, walk on, or JUCO player. I am no arm chair quarterback, so I rely on the coaches to make the best choices for the North Texas football program. If the coaches choose Josh Greer as the starting QB, then accept their choice. Greer will be a good QB for North Texas.2 points

I don't know enough about Greer at this point. He seems to have the size and the arm. It sounds as though he is a little quicker than DT as well2 points

Folks...come out and enjoy the Happy Hour if you can. We need to show our sponsors that folks from UNT WILL show up for events they sponsor if we want the community to really get on board the UNT bandwagon. We hope to do this "First Tuesday" thing every month. We realize the first one will be a learning experience. I just hope part of the experience learned is that our local alumni will turn out and show up for these type of events. Ok...full confession, and in case you attend and notice...I will be out of town this time and cannot attend. I know it happens, and bummer that it fell at the wrong time, but it is going to be a nice regular event for UNT Alums and friends. Please Mark it down and try to stop by...even for a short stay....if you possibly can. Let us know you like these type events and would like to see them continue...could definitely develop into some nice networking opportunities as well as just some good Mean Green fun! Come on down!2 points

Joe Judge, New England Patriots, was at Apogee on Monday morning to put Brelan through a workout. Sounds like Brelan performed well. There was a player from Oklahoma State in attendance and both he and Brelan were catching punts/kickoffs from UNT-Ex Will Atterberry. Sounds like it was only a Specialist workout, no route running or QB's involved. I don't know for sure, but I think the other player was Josh Stewart although I didn't think he had graduated or declared for the NFL Draft. Brelan had the better showing of the two. GMG!2 points

Something he hasn't done here, no. But adapting to an athlete at QB is something he has done in the past and hopefully will do here at North Texas. DW will have growing pains, but if he starts now I can only imagine what could be his jr & sr seasons.2 points

I don't know what the deal is. . . . I had been wondering why nobody on gmg.com was posting anything about Carlos Ortiz's fantastic showing this last weekend. I finally thought to check specifically in the "Mean Green Athletics" forum, and found something. But that's not typically the way I check up on gmg.com. . . . I always go straight to "New Content"--if it doesn't show up there, I usually don't know it exists. I thought I noticed this a week or so ago when I happened to find another thread in this forum that I otherwise would have missed. So what's the deal? Is it a glitch? Or is it intentional; i.e., not seen as being as important as the other forums?1 point

Yes. But I wasn't saying keep him on the bench, I was saying your risking his safety by calling multiple bootlegs per game. If you listen to both Chico & McCarney, they've both expressed concern with Williams' build and his ability to withstand some of the punishing hits he may take. If you call a rollout, you're taking away his O-line protecting him, and leaving him open to a hit.1 point

That's just for the tuition, right? Then, they would have to be paid for room & board... yikes. This could wind up being a fantastic opportunity for UNT and our "Best Buy in the West" (or whatever) angle! Since our tuition and room & board is cheaper than most other D1 colleges, we could pay that and tack on a little sumpm-sumpm for these guys. Plus, no state income tax in Texas! You live in a dorm, so no property tax either! Come one, come all to the new NCAA powerhouse in Denton, TX!1 point

Ok, preliminary results are in....and it appears that a new record was set at this year's event! Assuming that I do collect the final few silent auction winning bids, it appears the event will have raised $2500 +- a few! That is fantastic for this little event. Our sponsors, players, silent auction bidders, volunteers, spectators really turned out this year to make this a record. Cannot say enough in the way of thanks to all who helped. It means a great deal to our Cheer Squad to know they are appreciated and supported! Thanks folks...thanks so much! wow...$2500....who would have thought that when we started this event just four years ago?1 point

Sorry didnt see this thread before posting video in the other. As I said again, this rescue shows the importance off accurate ladder truck placement. You usually get one shot at it and it's gotta count. Fortunately here it just did. Rick1 point

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes I happen to like the power run game offense. DT did the job when he needed to. Chico and Mac put him in positions to succeed and more often than not, they did what they needed to last season... the whole offense and the whole defense... At this point, I have total faith that Chico and Mac will adjust the gameplan to whatever needs to happen. Run it and run it and run it and run it ....(norm style).... play action pass... spread 'em out....go fast...go slow.... Whatever. Dude, last season was a thing of beauty. It seemed like they did a little bit of everything based on situation and what was working. if we can do anything close to what happened last year, I'll be a happy man. I think I just got football wood just thinking about it... Do what is necessary, but an offense that can impose their will by running it down the oppositions throats is demorializing to a defense... Next year, if they excel at a "spread run" or "spread throw" or traditional pro-style offense... whatever...bubble screens? slip screens.... qb draws for 5 yards a carry? read option...traditional wishbone option... whatever dude.....whatever.... just win baby. I "think" talent level appears to be going up...but really, we'll see. experience level might be down going into this year, but we'll see... I do not see anything to complain about at this point.... Open competition is open compettion. One thing I can guarantee with all the positions up for grabs, I feel confident the person who SHOULD be playing WILL be playing.... you guys root for whomever you want to...seems like wasted energy to me. It will be fun to see what happens at the spring game...after that, hope for no injuries and a healthy squad come fall....1 point
