Ok, preliminary results are in....and it appears that a new record was set at this year's event! Assuming that I do collect the final few silent auction winning bids, it appears the event will have raised $2500 +- a few! That is fantastic for this little event. Our sponsors, players, silent auction bidders, volunteers, spectators really turned out this year to make this a record. Cannot say enough in the way of thanks to all who helped. It means a great deal to our Cheer Squad to know they are appreciated and supported! Thanks folks...thanks so much! wow...$2500....who would have thought that when we started this event just four years ago?5 points

Dajon is the most athletic of the group and he has the best arm as well. Its 100% his job to lose. I think Greer looks great and will challenge him until the end, but I still expect DW to start in Austin week 1. Either way, the QB position will be a HUGE upgrade from last season IMO. DT was a great bus driver, but unless your Alabama, a bus driver can only get you so far. For the Mean Green to take that next step and constantly compete with the big programs (a la Boise St 5 years ago) than a stud QB is a necessity. It's very important that Greer be ready if DW wins the job. I could see a situation where DW goes down for a few games because of the amount of read zone we would run and his lean build.5 points

What I took from this is they really really want DW to gain some weight to be a starter, and that is why he was being singled out for his off-season habits/performance. This video didn't' clear anything up for me. It only added to the offseason suspense.5 points

The coaching staff isn't going to give you their read on the QB situation on a 3 minute website interview in the Spring. They are going to say polite things about everybody and maybe use it to motivate certain players involved in the competition. And that is all.4 points
-
I don't know if it has been mentioned but it showed that Dajon was a red-shirt freshman (I know we all assumed it would happen, but it's still nice to see).4 points

and the same goes if DW is the starter... look, the team just won 9 games when most were saying the coached were being stubborn... let's see how the season plays out before we just start condemning this season as lost4 points
-
This is just flat wrong. If you were at the games and missed what we were trying to do on offense, it is because you weren't thinking about the strategy involved in a game over time. It isn't playing not to lose. Many times we stepped on the gas and throats at the end of games last season. Playing not to lose is nursing leads. We did not do that. The 2 games you singled out, we didn't step on the gas soon enough, but they did step on it and in both cases we had chances to win. I can't tell you how interested I am in football again because of this past season and seeing our offense actually have purpose, even in losses. How our offense runs and what we do makes a whole lot of sense.4 points
-
Excellent...you just answered the question....it was an off the wall nonsense post based in absolutely zero reality. You got called on it and now you just want to take your ball and go home. Good. Maybe you will think a bit more before posting such ridiculously inane garbage about UNT.4 points

slow down there hoss... since all of us have seen a combined one possession of NCAA football between Greer and DW, i don't think we really know who exactly can do what better than the other... i'll hold any criticisms until we are maybe 2 games deep into the season... secondly... the fast tempo pace was used in the majority of games this past year, although it usually only occurred in the second half, which i believe is the coaches gameplan... see Tulane, Ball St., Ohio, Tulsa, UNLV, Middle Tenn., UTSA also.. running the ball against 8 or 9 man fronts was part of their play fast scheme... it might have worked it's best in the bowl game... but we definitely showed it in Tulsa and other games4 points

I liked this one defensive drill where the players laid on their backs helmet to helmet, one as a football carrier. At the command, they flip, hop up, and duke it out to gain ground. It works the defensive follow through. ---- Also, scrimmages are now full-contact, including QBs. Live. Defensive players are getting reamed for just shouldering and not following-through, namely by Akunne who is in full on leader mode.3 points

Here's something else for you who believe "athleticism" is only equated to quarterbacks who can "improvise/abandon the game plan": Maybe the Hispanic coach Canales is racist. Although, our last "Johnny Manziel-type" was white and is now awaiting NCAA approval of his transfer to a D-II school. So, I guess that angle won't work either. Well, shucks. I guess we're just stuck with coaches who expect their quarterbacks to be leaders, learn the playbook, and have the discipline to stick to the game plan...believing, foolishly, that over the span of a season such will lead to winning football games and competing for conference and bowl titles. Maybe Liberty Christian can find a spot for those dolts, McCarney and Canales; I hear it's looking for some new football coaches.3 points

If you couldn't see the hurry-up offense at times last season, you weren't paying enough attention. It was situational. We certainly didn't run it 100% of the game. I would think our guys would be gassed if we did that, and it's not anywhere near the core of McCarney's offensive philosophy.3 points

I don't know about the Boca Raton Bowl. But I do know that "No Bowl" is what really sucks!3 points

The thing I like about Coach Canales is that he sees the big picture: Quarterbacking and Team are more important concepts than the overused, worn out "athleticism." They are all athletes; that is why they are on scholarship. Many here, though, fall for the notion that because one quarterback is faster than another, then he is more athletic. That is wholly laughable. There is more to an athlete than speed. There is agility. There is strength. There is intelligence. There is power. And, there is discipline. At quarterback, who gives you the best long term results over a 12-14 game season? Is it the guy who understands the position and game plan, and constantly commits himself to the same? Or, is it the guy who abandons the game plan and study of the position because he believes his athleticism puts him on a different level than the other 21 people on the field while he's running around "creating?"3 points

He's a combination of Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp and John Wooden compared to Bumford. Maybe you could remind him I said so at the next charity basketball game.3 points

They wouldn't talk about McNulty either if he weren't Mac's little buddy.3 points

Great job, Kram! The amount of time that you devote the the cause - UNT - is unbelievable. I hope that when i get to be your age I have as much energy and drive and love for UNT as you do. Whups, just remembered : I am older than you (barely) - but you are an inspiration in all matters UNT.2 points

Great job by KRAM1 in pulling off another successful event to support UNT!2 points

Playing ball control with a second half lead is something I'm sure we'll see continue as long as Coach Mac is the head coach.2 points

I'll double the pay you got this year if you volunteer to coach again next year!2 points

Definitely coaching. Biggest upset in GMG history last year and a double digit win this year. I must be in line for an extension.2 points

All my Aggie friends absolutely HATE that Manziel improvised. And let me save you the predictable response. aTm lost because of a lack of defemse, not because Manziel put up numbers similar to his Heisman campaign.2 points

DW has issues, but he is young and they can be worked on. College football is fast paced, so he doesnt have a lot of time and the coaching staff will move on if he doesnt improve. I am glad to hear he is still getting his shot with the ones. The offseason workouts showed some issues the staff has and its more than being loud. Motivation is also about leading and being prepared. Its about the qb who has the lockerroom behind them. DW will need to get more reps and learn the offense. He will have to work through his personal situation and put in work off the field to win over the coaching staff and team.2 points

Coach Mc is doing a great job. He is confident in every interview and glad we have him for 5 more years.2 points

Great job again by GB. http://foxs.pt/1kZaCZK Has info on some players we recently offered or have had offers out to, including: -Akile Davis -Sam Tecklenburg -Chris Orr -Hunter Herndon -Madison Akamnonu -Connor Williams (who was at practice, Saturday)2 points

I am starting more and more to think it will Greer and McNulty on the two deep with Williams for maybe wild cats or so. Then again ,aybe the reason he does not praise DW more is because DW is the QB most at risk of getting complacent whenever something good is said. But overall, I am just trying to read tea leaves, and that is one difficult task. We won't really know anything before the spring game, and probably only very little after.2 points

I'm showing that we've also offered Anthony Wheeler of Dallas Skyline and Dailon Holmes of Denton. I do believe that we are considering Holmes as a DE though.1 point

The thing that most impressed me about SMU tonight...is once they went to stall ball with 4-5 minutes to go. They still ended up with good shots at the end of the shot clock the vast majority of the time. I saw so many teams in the NCAA tournament who would run the clock down and then chuck up lousy shots the last four days. SMU was as good as Arizona or Virginia in regards to playing great stall ball. That is a definite mark of a well coached team.1 point

Picked up a TCU offer. Still not many offers out to linebackers for us. So far just Moore, Jordan Williams from Paris, and Chris Orr, to my knowledge are the only linebacker offers.1 point

Well....the first half was good. Was shaping up to be a back and forth barn burner. Then SMU really put the hammer down.1 point

So, basically, you've got nothing.1 point

Thanjs. I did not see that article. You are absolutely right. Mac and Skladany will wear them out if they don't perform.1 point
