So I know this is still the lull-ish months in our Mean Green Fandom, but if you have the availability to come to campus tomorrow (Saturday, the 22nd), there is going to be a full day of stuff going on for everyone's athletic tastes. 9:30 AM - Darrell Dickey Practice Fields - First Football Scrimmage So, I just called Athletics to confirm (for the KRAM types ) that yes, despite the weather forecast, tomorrow's scrimmage is still scheduled to move forward. As all Spring activities are open, come on out and join in the revelry along the side lines. 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Ken Bahnsen Gym aka THE SNAKE PIT - UNT Student Alumni Association Inaugural Field Gym Day https://studentaffairs.unt.edu/field-day Remember Field Days in elementary school? Oh, and if you haven't heard, the SAA itself is run by our own lovely poster Michagb. The winning team will receive the coveted Golden Squirrel Trophy commemorating their contributions. All monies from this event go towards various causes all benefitting students - the Alumni Team cause being direct scholarships. Registration is $10 and gets you this snazzy shirt: Oh and you don't have to participate but can still cheer on your designated team! 5:00 PM - NT Volleyball Center - 4th Annual GoMeanGreen.com Basketball Classic http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/forum-4/announcement-55-gomeangreencom-basketball-classic-march-22nd-5pm/ Come further contribute to student scholarships in GMG.com's tried and true Basketball Classic and Silent Auction. The recipients of these monies are UNT Cheerleading and they will be presenting a special preview at the halftime of the game. Registration for this one is $25 and also gets you a snazzy shirt, though I don't where to link to find that one. ---- Come one come all! This post has been promoted to an article4 points

We've turned into Troy. Athletes and scorers, most from JUCO ranks, but no players that hold them together and make them a team rather than just 13 dudes.3 points

We DO feel like a real program now and the people I talk to (high school coaches, fans from other schools etc.}have begun to see us as a real program as well. I join Harry in saying thank you.3 points

As is usually the case with something like this if only those now bemoaning the lack of a FT Worth stop this year.....emphasis...THIS YEAR, not eternity....would have shown up and brought a few pals to the last few stops that were held in FT Worth, this discussion would not even be taking place. Why? Because there would be a FT. Worth stop. Maybe, just maybe, not having a Ft. Worth stop this year will actually help turn a future FT Worth stop into a "must attend" event. Besides...those that are interested can certainly find there way this year to Denton, Dallas, Plano or Gainesville. I have often made multiple stops on the tour. Can be done. Who knows, the Gainesville attendance might shatter attendance records...when such stops were held in Tyler years ago, word is the turnout was excellent. So...Tarrant County folks....make yourself known to RV and Company when you show up at one of this year's stops and let him know you will help get better turnout in FT Worth for next year's event. One thing about Mac...he absolutely hates talking at these things when fans don't care enough to show up in decent numbers. He has pretty much told us all that on numerous occasions. He, his staff and his players are doing their part on and off the field. And, least anyone here be of the highly mistaken opinion that I in any way think not having a stop in FT Worth is a good thing, I am willing to help do what I can to increase turnout should the Caravan return to a Tarrant County stop next year. Harry had a few good ideas as well. So, you Tarrant County folks willing to step up and be part of the solution? FT Worth could become the "must attend" stop. Could being the operative word here. I know at least four folks in Tarrant County that I think would be willing to help next year...what about others. Or, we can just blame someone else and talk about how it is someone else's job after the fact that there should be a stop in FT Worth. Come to any stop on the Caravan...just come...make yourself known and if you favor a Tarrant County stop let that be known as well and how you will help get the attendance numbers up. Really too bad that FT Worth is not on the list this year, but unless folks care enough to come......3 points

I've never understood this thinking in the quotes above. As a Mean Green fan in Ft. Worth, it is not my job or responsibility to ensure that the event is highly attended. That's the marketing department's job. I would bring myself and try to bring another person or two, but not offering the event at all because I and other FW fans can't bring 10 people each is a ridiculous notion. As for attending the other events, that would essentially turn into taking a half day off from work, which is asking too much from your average fan.2 points

Thanks Rick. The fact that I don't remember hearing anything about Kasper being considered or his name even being mentioned by this current Athletic Department during the search makes me tend to believe your source. It goes against all common sense and logic that an alumnus who happens to be a "head coach" with proven success would not want or would not be interested in coming home to his Alma Mater. I know next season is a bit off, but I don't think I can justify spending $720 on season tickets simply on RV's endoresment of this current basketball coach. Whats the old saying, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.1 point

NT03 and the basketball guys (Cooley, Tasty, etc.) could tell you more about these players. Also, don't know if he has the ball handling skills to play 3 primarily in college.1 point

This is not a private entity. We hear about coaches being hired and fired all the time and the reasons why. We just recently read details of Mac's contract extension and the reasons why we lost a few assistant coaches. Look, was Kasper even considered for the job? I dont remember his name ever being mentioned. Do any of you? Was he even approached? Do any of you know? If so, what happened? Did I just flat out miss the whole process concerning Kasper? I really don't think that is asking too much.1 point

Unless your schools like Wchita State(Basketball & Baseball) or North Dakota State. Is the 2013-2014 school year the year of the Bison? As an under-funded, 20 less scholarship FCS program they beat K State in Manhatten and go on to win their 3rd or 4th national FCS football championship in a row and just knocked off zeroU for their first NCAA Basketball tournament win in school history. All while having to, and very successfully I might add, recruit to the frozen tundra of Fargo North Dakota. Just an unbelievable story going on up at that school right now. Rick1 point

Just different strokes for different folks. You see as a UNT grad, I do believe part of my job is to "pay it forward" and help UNT wherever, however, and whenever I can. You mentioned going and taking a couple of friends with you....looks like you actually see it pretty much the same way. Sorry you don't understand that mindset, but like I said...different strokes for different folks. Not better, not worse...just different. If ones lives in FT Worth...it certainly does not mean taking a day or half day off work to drive to Denton. I commuted to work from Denton to Tarrant County for close to 14 years...and commuted from Denton to Cedar Hill for about two years before that. Never took a half-days work to get from Denton to either place and each trip was right smack in the middle of "drive time". But, maybe you don't have a traditional 8-5 schedule. If that's the case, even a FT Worth stop could be tough. Anyway...make your voice heard that you would like to see FT Worth get a stop again next year. Here's betting that stops in FT Worth will return soon enough. I do hope they will.1 point

He does seem to have a strange obsession with this group. Makes me think he might be one of those family men who go moonlighting as a cross dressers at Oak Lawn gay bars on the weekends and then sit in the office during the week reading gay bashing articles to console themselves.1 point

I think Miller is a very long shot. He is definitely at the top of the wish list for our coaches, but I just don't see it. I'd give major props to Benny if we landed him, but the staff has missed out on a number of the top PG's in this class. The 2014 PG class a whole is pretty thin. We have some other options : Austin, Alston, Portley, Shy McCelland ( who tells me he has a UNT offer). I still think we land Austin. One thing is for sure , we will bring in a PG and it will be a JUCO I Fully expect there to be at least 2 more signings. If Benford wants to improve he has to shake up the current roster. What we have right now won't get it done in cUSA1 point
-
Of these guys it seems like Austin is the one we could potentially get. NT03 said Miller doesn't have much interest and Barford released a Top 7 back in the summer and we didn't make it. I don't know about Brinkley, but I'm not sure he'd be the best fit with what we need. As Vito has said, we'll likely target some JUCO posts who have yet to sign. Problem is, if we use our lasts scholarship spot in our class on a post, then we will not have a backup pg. Or we may cut ties with someone currently on the roster or signed to make room for both. Who we would cut ties with, I have no idea. Signing a JUCO this late, we'd be lucky for a Colin Voss type player, although Armani Flannigan production would be more likely. Also hard to get a real big man (over 6'8") who is actually good. But we'll see. If we could get one it'd definitely be worth a look.1 point

http://www.footballfoundation.org/News/NewsDetail/tabid/567/Article/52057/this-week-in-college-football-history-oct-23-29.aspx Oct. 25 1975: A 21-14 loss to North Texas State might not be the most shocking loss in Tennessee history but it’s on the shortlist. The Vols were a 23-point favorite but the Mean Green took advantage of turnovers to get a 14-7 lead in the second quarter. Tennessee scored a touchdown on a Randy Wallace pass to John Murphy with 4:39 to play. Down 14-13, coach Bill Battle elected to kick the extra point and take a 14-14 tie, which drew boos from the crowd. Turned out the conversion was academic. Sears Woods, who had scored the two previous North Texas TDs, returned the kickoff 98 yards for the game-winning touchdown. http://www.beckys-place.com/searswoods.html http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1090436/index.htm1 point

Will not happen: "Mario Trujillo, spokesman for the West Contra Costa Unified School District, said school officials are less concerned with punishing the student than making sure he gets the support he needs." Which will mean spending money to keep telling her it's okay to believe she's a he...and, that it's okay to lie as long as you can't tell what the parts of you body mean. Hard to know who is more screwed up these days, these mentally ill kids or the adults who foster their continued mental illness.1 point
