  1. The following thoughts are completely uninformed and should not be taken as knowledgable evaluation... whatsoever. ---- Hey, practices are actually open! The dozen or so of us outsiders who showed up were initially relegating ourselves to outside the fencing, but Dir. of Operations Scott Conley called us all in, welcomed us, and graciously answered some personnel questions we had. The overall group chemistry was electric as we thought it would be - certainly helps to have the season we just had though. The Defense is feisty, loud, and talkative. They got the goat of the offense all day - James Jones was especially motivating on the sidelines. The jibing on a particularly beautiful pick-six was awesome. On the QBs: #5 - McNulty: same MiniMac as we've always known #6 - Dajon: it might have been just the instances I was watching, but it looks like DW got the most reps with the 1's today #7 - Means: a bit fresh-faced, some under-thrown balls for sure #8 - Greer: looks to step into a veteran-style of leadership role right off the bat, has some wheels for sure #13 - Cousins: still an unknown and didn't see too much from him #19 - Shanbour: holy. cow. though undersized, he's got the absolute tightest, quickest, and most consistent throwing motion out of the group No one guy completely separated himself from the five others, as there were some definite errant passes thrown and other mental mistakes. There were a lot of fundamentals mistakes on Offense today, especially in the 2's and 3's when snapping or just plain holding onto the ball. On the coaches, Hicks seems to be feeling out his new position amongst a group of strong position players, but Kevin Patrick has certainly already taken over the reigns of the Defensive Line in dominant fashion. I'm not sure I saw Perry Carter, or at least didn't recognize him. Anyway, it was fun. I'll definitely come out to a few more of these.

  2. Just a comment I want to make about practice yesterday.. and its directed to anyone who may read this that is associated with James Jones. He took a moment to walk (not asked to.. he did it himself)over to my little boy and talk to him yesterday for a few minutes. That is first class all the way. That brief interaction not only put a smile on his face but it put in prespective that these guys care about the fans. Thank you James!

  3. I think if I see the Fuhrer give up 20 miles of land around Omaha/Utah/Gold/Juno, then I'll be concerned. What's that? He lost this much on the day the Allies landed? Well, this is probably the soldiers' fault. He cant actually get out there and man the turrets himself. I'll need to see the Fuhrer give up Paris before I get concerned. What's that? He lost Paris 2 months later? Well, obviously the Allies were shooting lights out. Nothing he could really do. Total aberration. I'll need to see the Fuhrer give up France before I get concerned...

  6. I wish we'd learn from history. You have to watch the big boys, especially those old German teams, run the 2-3 zone to see how it is capable of shutting a country down. Japan tried to play more of that old, JJ street ball, launch it from anywhere kamikaze style, but, ultimately, the U.S. was able to exploit a giant hole in the middle. HOWEVER, always be carefull about pride. After all, fighting a two-front, 2-3 zone match is what many historians say did Germany in.

  7. At least no one in that thread is saying: Putin's fault? Putin didn't invade the Crimea, the Black Sea Troopers did! I happen to hang out with a lot of autocratic despots and if you blame this on Putin you are just showing low Geo Political IQ.

  8. Good stuff Harry. Mac laid it out today what they are looking for: Leader Take Care of the Ball Dynamic I think if Dajon can show that he can lead this group he will end up being the guy. Like you said talent is there. Greer is the other option with the most talent. I know that young man can lead. He is a serious threat to be the guy. My other guy Quinn. I've seen him play a few times. He is a baller. I'm telling you watch out for him. He is going to be the WOW guy.

  15. I get it UNT90. You don't like the government. That's your problem. Some scientists do work for government agencies, some scientists do have NSF grants. The way science works is that you pose hypotheses, you test those hypotheses, then you submit your results & wait for feedback from your peers. Who funded your research ought not, and usually doesn't, matter. Sometimes it does of course. Some scientists are dishonest, some are motivated by money, and some are ideologues BUT the vast majority are committed to finding the truth and then publishing the truth. You project your motivation - the holy dollar bill - on everyone. You can't understand that there are people who value other things. Sorry UNT90 but that's just sad.

  16. Sorry for the delay, I've been busy with family. One quick comment and I'll come back later with something more. The QB's looked this way to me. #5, Mini Mac.....meh. Average throwing/delivery. Didn't see him move around much so I can't assess that part of his game. #6 DW, good arm, good delivery, and he even did a good job of putting some touch on a pass over the middle. #7 Conner Means, needs some work, but pretty good potential. Good arm, needs some work on his throwing motion. #8 Greer, good arm strength, but his throwing motion is too deliberate and getting the ball off takes a bit too long. Pretty good wheels. I don't see him as being faster than DT. 13. Cousins(?) walk-on. Pretty good arm strength and delivery. As of yesterday a little better than Means and Greer. 19. Shanbour. The shortest but the best of the lot. I haven't seen a quick release like his since Steve Ramsey. It almost looks like he's throwing side-arm it's so fast. And the trajectory is flat (Scott Hall his freshman year flat). Only DW comes close as far as the speed of the pass. I only saw him in passing drills. For some reason when they were running the two minutes at the end of the practice, Shanbour followed on the sidelines and sent in signals to the QB's. So I didn't get to see how he moves around. More later

  18. So Trey Norris -who played for UNT until the 2011-2012 season is now at South Dakota, just wrapping up his first playing season there. If I got things correctly he is now a redshirt sophomore. Before going into the summit league tournament South Dakota is 12-17, 6-8 in the league, their RPI is 246th (UNT is 180th), they are 227th in Sagarin (UNT is 216th) His stats are: 29.3 min per game, 8 points per game (223 total), .421 Field goal percentage, with a nice .403 3 point percentage. 75% on free throws, 4.1 assists per game and a little better than 2 assits per turnover. He also leads the team in steals, with 1.3 per game. Looks like he is doing ok.

  19. If RV knows what's good for this program, he will get rid of Benford now! I consider myself a die-hard North Texas fan and used to follow every game, but I have only watched/followed 2 games this year (the only ones on TV here in Austin). If it weren't for those, I would have not seen any. I'm watching the UTEP game as I'm writing this and glad that I have been drinking all day or else I would be even more miserable. It's just sad to see us piss away all that we've built. Unfortunately, we are going to have to start all over because we let Benford have another year. I would like to apologize to the players on behalf of the North Texas Athletic Dept. They didn't deserve this, but our AD let this happen.

  21. Let me be clear. I knew nothing of Shanbours QB skills prior to going to practice yesterday. I only knew that he had taken a round about journey to get here, and that he was getting high marks in winter work-outs. It was only one day. I would like to see how he moves around before I say anything else. I anticipated that DW would show the ability that he showed and I was hoping that Greer would be more impressive. However, based on just the QB skills that were being worked on yesterday. I rate em this way. Shanbour and Williams...almost a tie...Shanbour threw a little better. McNulty and Cousins pretty even....Cousins threw a little better Means a little better than Greer.

  22. Sure. But that's yet to be determined. I'm just saying it reminds me of the Berglund talk. Not that Shanbour will be transferring to some D-II school somewhere. Count me as one who was sucked into the Berglund vortex last year. Fool me once, shame on you... Fool me. Can't get fooled again.

  25. Im hearing the new coaches love Zed Evans. Kinda predictable since speed and athleticism is the first thing noticeable from a new coaching staff. He has NFL measurables and will have a new chance to impress these coaches. He will also have another spring to learn the system. I had Warner as the frontrunner while Joseph was here, but this position may be more open now. I also heard that Warner is a great athlete. The arm injury set him back, but to look on the bright side of things, it gave him more time to heal those knee injuries. Can he be eligible for an extra year due to injuries? No matter who wins, I think we are in good shape with good depth at safety. I can even see us even having Warner and Evans out there at the same time in certain situations. (since I heard they were both a lot faster than Lee) Trice was a playmaker and leader, but I see this as a possible upgrade from an athletic standpoint with either Warner or Evans. I also think the corner position will be very solid with the obvious returning starters. Add the fact that they really didn't get the starting job until the season started, Buyers will have a whole Spring working with the first unit and getting even more reps to get better. I assume Whitfield starts in jjones place and he has experience. It's good he will get the reps so he can get more experience in coverage since he will most likely be the nickel. Not sure who gets his reps at nickel in the Spring, but it creates a situation where there is a lot of experience and depth for next year. I feel the secondary does not miss a beat next season and will not have the shaky start like this season. This will be one of the keys to having a strong defense for 2014.

  26. This project is 100% good for NT and the region. I am excited about it and grateful to those making the effort. I don't want to sound ungracious in any way but, I do wish the design could be more dramatic and unique. It doesn't have to look like Picasso designed it but how much more could it cost to rivet steel and lay bricks in a reasonably attractive and unique way compared to the same ole' same ole'?

  31. From one person's perspective, no one was unbeatable. You win some and you lose some, just have to make sure you win more than you lose. There were ones that were tougher to defeat than others. Ybarbo was the one that was mentioned because he was shorter than the Dlinemen and much harder to get underneath.

  32. You just can't stop can you? You can't actually answer the arguments made, you can only attempt to attack the creditability of the person offering the argument. Throwing up excuse after excuse as to why you won't even give the arguments an effort. ...so back again you go to calling on the "ignorance" of the claim about the climate over the past 10 years (which absolutely DOES show cooling, I've posted the data from the NAS earlier in this thread showing that fact, and explaining why many in the scientific community call into question the validity of the NOAA data) and both I and TFLF (quite brilliantly, I might add) dismantled this BS that nobody in the 70's were panicking about global cooling. It wasn't just the NY times, as shown by the funding being spent on studying it as well as briefs by the CIA preparing for the result of massive cooling. Articles posted today trying to discredit what was in fact an issue of large-scale concern is sort of like the "Captain Hindsight" episode of South Park. Everyone's seeing the pattern here right? Anything the opposition posts isn't peer reviewed or from "legitimate literature" (as measured by what, I wonder). ...I wonder if the small outcroppings of dissenting written word during the infancy of our revolution and ultimate founding were looked upon by imperialists as not peer-reviewed or "legitimate". Sometimes, to get information out when you're speaking of a position not held by the "legitimate majority" you have to get the data out there as you can. I notice that you have yet to go into the science of anything i posted and respond to it on a scientific basis. All, so far, you have done is call it illegitimate and attempt to discredit it and the authors instead of telling us WHY. Frankly, I don't think you are ignorant. I'm not going to drop to the pathetic level of name calling. I think you are looking at the science that supports your point of view and, yes, politics, and running with it. That is fine. ...but be honest in what you are doing. You haven't really looked at what those of us who disagree with you have posted, and you certainly haven't argued any of it away. You've tried to cast me as Rush Limbaugh, but haven't taken the science and conclusions within the items that have been posted in debate on at all. You only have moved to try and discredit the source, not the data. Again, this is the sign of a weak argument.

  33. Interesting comments in the article especially QS saying that he had been compared to Johnny Manziel (that reference is getting a bit old BTW). It 's entirely too soon to be making any sort of bold statements. But let me just say that if Shanbour is even close to Manziel in mobility, in the words of Guy Fieri from the food channel "winner, winner, chicken dinner". Global observation. Christopher Walker commented that it was great seeing such team speed...totally agree. My main impression from watching the practice....speed, speed, speed. Other observations One drill has the defensive line belly flopping and then chasing a RB to and down the sideline. Both units got there in a big hurry. Those guys are fast. I was pleasantly surprised at Andy Flusche's speed. Shawn McKinney looks every bit of his 365lbs. running back punts in the punt drill. #4, #9, and #16...oh and #32. #4 had slightly better moves. All were very fast. #20 got into the 2 min drill and showed his great speed. New guys... #82 Crayton Adams at 6'5" X 210 has impressive size. He's also surprisingly fast. #32. Smith(?) a pretty small (he looks about 5'6") rb got a lot of reps. Pretty shifty and had good bursts of speed. #25 Tucker, not new to the team but to the RB position. I saw why he was moved......he's fast. Maybe a half step faster that AJ. #87 Cameron Brown at 6'2" X 205 he has pretty good size. Made a few good catches

  38. So, I graduated last May, and recently started my first "real" job out of college. I was wondering after the required donation or whatever what is the real cost of a season ticket (preferably two) at the stadium level. I had the luxury of a family friends season tickets last year about 4 rows up from the 50. Can anyone give me a better idea of what I would spend to support the Mean Green in total?

Then I pointed to SUMG and Silver and said.."but these two...just look at 'em, their guilty as sin". Rick Rick
