I'm in my second semester of my freshman year so this will be my first chance to attend spring practices and I full on intend to! I think we're all interested in seeing the new team. I want to attend coach Mac's presser at 11:30 at Apogee but where do I go for that? Also, I have class until 5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so about how much practice will I be able to see? Hope to meet some of y'all there! Thanks and GMG!7 points

Sunday's tennis match with UTEP was moved indoors to the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving and started at 7:30 a.m. This was the first match with a Conference USA foe and UNT prevailed 4-1. UTEP kept several matches close, but UNT won 4 of the 5 completed singles matches and was in route to win the 6th if needed. Due to court space, the singles matches were played first and no doubles was played since the victory was already decided. UNT looks to be improving steadily this spring. The ladies have played a very steady dose of higher ranked teams and it seems to have improved the games of the players. Hopefully they will peak by the Conference USA tournament in Virginia in mid-April. The team is very young (2 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 4 freshmen) so experience is being gained daily. Some observations: #1 player Kseniya Bardabush seems to have overcome her ankle injury and is playing at a high level; junior Franziska Spinkmeyer is still out with an Achilles problem, but says she will begin to play some again in a couple of weeks; if she comes back strong, that will strengthen the team going into the tournament #2 player Anastasiya Shestokova (enrolled as a freshman in January) is the real deal...look for her to do great things in the future; she has won the first 4 matches she has played for UNT Current lineup has freshmen playing in the #2, #3, #5 and #6 spots, with a junior playing at #1 and a sophomore at #4. Spinkmeyer, a junior, if back to form, could play anywhere from the #3 to #6 spot and is a valuable doubles player as well. It will be an interesting spring season. Conference USA is a tough tennis conference and I see UNT in the upper half of the teams. Tournament seedings may well determine how far we go in the tournament. No doubt that the next few years look bright. Coach Lama is a great coach and now has ex-TCU head coach and ex-SMU assistant head coach, Jeff Hammond, assisting him. The foundation looks solid. Yeah, I originally read "losses", as 'these guys are no longer on the team as of this spring'. Then noticed the common thread between them were the injuries and chilled out.3 points

So Trey Norris -who played for UNT until the 2011-2012 season is now at South Dakota, just wrapping up his first playing season there. If I got things correctly he is now a redshirt sophomore. Before going into the summit league tournament South Dakota is 12-17, 6-8 in the league, their RPI is 246th (UNT is 180th), they are 227th in Sagarin (UNT is 216th) His stats are: 29.3 min per game, 8 points per game (223 total), .421 Field goal percentage, with a nice .403 3 point percentage. 75% on free throws, 4.1 assists per game and a little better than 2 assits per turnover. He also leads the team in steals, with 1.3 per game. Looks like he is doing ok.2 points

If RV knows what's good for this program, he will get rid of Benford now! I consider myself a die-hard North Texas fan and used to follow every game, but I have only watched/followed 2 games this year (the only ones on TV here in Austin). If it weren't for those, I would have not seen any. I'm watching the UTEP game as I'm writing this and glad that I have been drinking all day or else I would be even more miserable. It's just sad to see us piss away all that we've built. Unfortunately, we are going to have to start all over because we let Benford have another year. I would like to apologize to the players on behalf of the North Texas Athletic Dept. They didn't deserve this, but our AD let this happen.2 points

Linebackers Coach: John Skladany Losses: R Lewis, Orr, Wright Returning: Akunne, B Davis, Ellis, Jefferson, J Marshall, Minor, Scott, L Smith Gains: Montgomery, A Smith, A Wallace When you can lose a future NT Hall of Famer and not be depressed you realize that this program is beginning to build talent. Zach Orr's replacement projects to be our highest rated recruit. Anthony Wallace was a 4-star recruit with Oregon originally. For whatever reason, he didn't see much playing time and transferred to us. He would be expected to start at middle. But not so fast. Last year's "find" was Fred Scott, who also plays the middle. What's worse is that the only other LB with experience playing in the middle, Derek Akunne, starts on the outside. So, the three best linebackers may not be on the field at the same time. So, unless there's a position switch, I see Wallace starting in the middle backed up by Scott (or the other way around). Akunne should be the strong side linebacker but who'll be on the other side? Some think that A J Smith the JUCO transfer projects there but I like the play of Sed Ellis. I believe that the stock of Jalen Marshall has fallen but he can still hold off the challenges of LaJaylin Smith and Calvin Minor for the other outside spot. I project that the starters will be Akunne, Wallace and Ellis backed up by A J Smith, Scott, and Jalen Marshall. That's not bad but I hope that they can find a way to get both Wallace and Scott on the field at the same time.2 points

Im hearing first team lbs are Ellis, Wallace, and Akunne for now. there will be good competition in this area, and even though we lost leadership and experience, the athleticism and speed will be upgraded.2 points

The starters will be Brown, Mason, Orr and Lincoln. Second line will be Polk, Roberts, Watson, Moore. Possible playing time and maybe a lot for freshman Johnson.2 points

El Paso is easy to ridicule because it's a ridiculous city. I am from EP and it's a great place to have in your rear view. That's precisely why they have so many fans in the DFW area. It suffers a massive brain drain because the educated people get out. (yes I get there are a few good jobs there) Super friendly? That's laughable at best. Try living there. Day to day life teaches you how bad the average Joe in El Chuco sucks. Try grocery shopping and you'll want to fight someone. People going to the game should have fun. The Mexican food is good and there will be beer everywhere. Two days anywhere can be fun, especially when we should destroy them in football.2 points

Don't wanna get mocked in your own arena? Try not getting curb stomped on a regular basis. We didn't have any fans there to stop them and goodness knows the team couldn't do anything about it.2 points

There is no such thing as normal substitution patterns. Define it with facts. You can't. Laughable. Substitution patterns, we are talking about substitution patterns? Ridiculous. They aren't the reason we are struggling. They never have been the cause of loss nor do they make Benford a bad coach. There are other things this team does that points to his struggles as a coach. Not one of them is substitution patterns.2 points

I'll do it for you. Get this man out of here!! I'm sure he's a good guy but he is a sucky coach.2 points

Defensive Line Coach: Kevin Patrick Losses: Abbe, Bellazin, Boutwell, McCoy Returning: Brown, Dilonga, Flusche, Haboul, Lincoln, Mason, Moore, Orr, Polk, Roberts, Wallace, Watson Gains: T Johnson, Tauaalo With all four of last year's starters gone, this is the most wide open race of them all. Only Lincoln has a lot of experience but several others are lettermen. At defensive ends I like Quenton Brown and Daryl Mason backed up by Chad Polk and are you ready for this...Andy Flusche. I probably should be picking Jarrian Roberts for this but something tells me that the former Class A all-state player will pour his heart and soul into the fight. Roberts looked good on occasion last year and he could be a starter even but it's going to take more effort than I've seen yet. I also am hoping that Malik Dilonga is healthy and can contribute. My guess for starting defensive tackles is Alexander Lincoln and Syd Moore backed up by Dutton Watson and Austin Orr. I've given up on Zero Wallace but I hope that he finally gets it because I believe that he has a lot of talent. Maybe Coach Patrick can get it out of him. Haboul is still undersized for the tackle but he's tough and could see some spot duty. I doubt that the two freshmen will see any action this year1 point

I was at Home Depot in McKinney on Saturday and was stopped by an older gentleman who saw I wearing a NT t-shirt and hat and asked me if I saw the goal line stand against Rice. He said it was the greatest goal line stand he had ever seen, and that NT was about to "real good". Seems like that one series of plays might have created an entire new group of NT fans1 point

$700k was the highest in 2013 if you take out McNeil from ECU which is leaving the conference. This doesn't take into account any raises coming up. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/salaries/1 point

Nothing to do with racism. A. Mac-4.8 DW-4.6 Those 2 tenths of a second is a giant difference. Also McNulty runs more like a TE and DW runs more like a back. So elusiveness is also on DW's side. I can't speak for accuracy at this point, but arm strength is also on DW's side. With a good offensive game plan molded around DW along with the weapons on O this O can be surprisingly good.1 point

Everybody is putting stock in Williams bc no one wants to watch the second coming of Derek Thompson the next 3 or 4 years. People don't want to watch a 2500 yd passer 12 td 12 int. It's frustrating and exhausting being so invested in a program then watching that. Williams offers a spark with his legs. He's not the 2nd coming of Manziel, but he could be a Soza from utsa. Good decision making, high % throws, and make something happen with his legs whether designed or not. I really hope DW is our next QB. If Canales can mold the O around him the offense will be very, very good. Also, basing this only on his persona I think that no atmosphere will be too big for him...such as @ DKR.1 point

McCarney's new deal will make him among the highest-paid coaches in Conference USA, a source said. McCarney made $545,300 last season, which ranked among the bottom half of C-USA coaches. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10546379/north-texas-gives-dan-mccarney-new-five-year-deal1 point

The problem with having a four year starter who (mostly) stayed healthy is you really have zero idea who is going to be good behind him. For all we've seen of McNulty, he could be the next coming of Andrew Smith and we would have no idea. He came in, cold, two plays into a blowout against Arky State in 2011 and went 14-26 for 136-1-1 (a game where we were down 31-0 at the half). Same deal with another 2011 blowout against Tulsa (28-3 at the half), where he posted a 11-18, 158-0-2 line. Outside of those two games, he has a total of 13 passes under his belt. Not sure if you can tell much of anything from that tiny sample size in those game situations. Dajon Williams looked absolutely amazing during each his six throws in a blowout agaist Idaho. But it's crazy to try and call him the next coming based on that sample size, either. Same goes for Connor Means, Quinn Shanbour, or Josh Greer. They have played exactly zero snaps, and at least two of them probably won't... ever. Uncertainty isn't all doom and gloom. Hope always springs eternal, and that's really part of the fun of watching your team. But, realistically... we have no idea what any of these guys have in the bag. Yet.1 point

Nah, it is easier to sling insults at one who is committed to his religion, especially when it is Christianity. I think SE meant to call Jesus a bigot since Phil was basically stating what the Bible says.1 point

People were complaining about the debt/deficit spending that was taking place but it was never made into a crisis since we never made it past some amount that made many people think was too much. I guess when we hit the 1 trillion dollar budget deficit mark a lot people really started to care. Here's a cool video that outlines how debt/deficit spending under the different presidents since the 1980s has gone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV-xPS5-GxE1 point

. I don't remember radio guys yelling impeach all the time (or any) or a constant barrage of hate spewed on radio/TV then ... Now I do and that is dividing America and most of what is said just isn't true anyway. People should have pointed out how much the debt was increasing then though.... and that was true......... I know you will find some obscure guy that no one listens to to quote.... but no one like Rush L. etc. with millions of listeners listing to his arrogant rants... thinking they are hearing the truth.1 point
