McCarney took the Dodge dumpster fire and rebuilt it in 3 years. Benford took JJ's well oiled machine and threw it into a dumpster and lit it on fire....that's about it.6 points

Ok...I am going to put on my Sherlock hat on and from what I gather from this thread. Taylor called it quits. Taylor is NOT a dude. Taylor plays for Coach Pete. She has a family that is a bunch of hookers. Taylor was preggers not too long ago. Benford is somehow, maybe involved in this. Benford arrived on the scene before Taylor was preggers. Benford has nets. He casts them widely. CONCLUSION- Benford is the baby daddy. Benford'd5 points

I obviously need to do some research y'all. And I apologize. I'm a freshman and I really do love this school and want to see it succeed. I just do see improvement with benford at this point, and I don't think our problems could be fixed with just another coaching change.5 points

I like the optimism, but he is a bad hire. It's as simple as that. There are no consistencies to speak of on his behalf. I like the 4 game win streak, but reality is reality.5 points

Our four game winning streak is put to a huge test in this one. Not gonna lie, should we win, I will be most impressed.4 points

And we were the unanimous pick among Sun Belt coaches to win the west in out last year there. Instead we supplied half the wins ULM got that season and lost to a D2 team.3 points

The team has just won 4 and if it can build on that, then this may turn out semi ok. We all hope that they all prove us wrong and finish the season with a bang. But I feel like the goal has to be to really contend for the tourney almost every season and have a real shot at a seed that gives NT a real shot a the round of 32 every once in a while. I think that JJ proved that these goals are attainable. That said these are the reasons why some serious unhappyness with Benford is around: The team is 211th in sagarin and similarly placed in most other advanced rankings. And that is after 4 wins in a row, so the hole was pretty deep. I just am of the opinion that even in down years UNT should not be outside of the best 200. There is not one top 100 RPI win on the resume. There are some ugly losses to teams well outside of the RPI 200. There are some real beatdowns against the better teams on the schedule. There is the feeling that UNT could have had a NBA first round pick on it's resume if he had left before Tony Benford arrived. People have not yet forgotten Alabama-Huntsville. There is the disgrace of ditching UTA for a DII team, and just generally the weakness of this years out of conference schedule, a schedule that said pretty loudly that they expected not to contend for the tourney. Oh and some people are unhappy about the circumstances under which some former players left the program.3 points

As much as I have called for Benford's head on this board, what I want more than a coaching change is for him to prove me wrong. Trust me, no one would be happier than me, to offer up an apology on here in a couple of years as we are winning 27 games and getting a 12-13 seed in the Dance. I just don't see it happening.3 points

Not true. We even had some Top 25 predictions coming out of major sports news media. Tony Mitchell was a top lottery pick, and our coach accepted a head coach position at LSU. All signs that our program had truly turned a corner and headed in the right direction. Even Tony was quoted as saying he saw no reason why we would not be top 25 team in his first year given our roster and winning history.3 points

I thought that I'd do a 'next year's outlook' for each position as we go into spring. Would like to hear opinions on who will be on the two-deep roster going into the fall. Quarterbacks Coach: Mike Canales Losses: D. Thompson, Berglund Returning: McNulty, Williams Gains: Greer, Means, Shanbour Most Experienced: McNulty Best Runner: Williams Best Passer: Greer This position will be the most controversial and rightly so. Who the starter is may likely depend on what type of offense we decide to run. If the offense is similar to last year, that is primarily run first, then it should be a real battle between Williams and McNulty. Little Mac may be the better athlete but I'm not convinced that he's the better quarterback. Williams may have more talent but is lacking in experience and desire. Greer hasn't been a runner and it could take awhile for him to learn that aspect. Means needs time to develop any sort of game. We have potentially the two best receivers coming in the fall since Ron Shanklin and Barry Moore back in the late 60s. I really believe that we'll see a different offense this coming year; one that will be 55-60% passing. If it were not intended then why would we even sign Greer? Players in bold are/were starters. Players in italics have questioned eligibility for this coming year.2 points

So much in this thread. And if anyone is winning here, it's Caribbean. Silver, Regardless of where you stand on any kind of hot-button topic, and despite your proclivity for saying things that get you in doo-doo, I HIGHLY doubt you would accuse this man to his face of adoption for appearance sake... Wow. in before the lock.2 points

Nah, it is easier to sling insults at one who is committed to his religion, especially when it is Christianity. I think SE meant to call Jesus a bigot since Phil was basically stating what the Bible says.2 points

Everyone keeps saying if Mac wants to be conservative, he'll play McNulty. McNulty is a turnover machine. Mac has avoided the QB discussion and brought in excellent QBs to see what happens.2 points

I think if offensive philosophy stays the same and McCarney has as much input as we all think he will, the job is McNulty's to lose. Any deviation from last year's philosophy, or if McCarney gives Chico more leeway, we could see Williams or Greer. It's all a bunch of guessing right now, but at least it's not uniforms or conference re-alignment talk.2 points

I agree. Come out and say what the problem was if you know or just remain silent. Anyway, a college team should never be held hostage by a player. Ever. The coach is the problem if they allow a player to destroy a team for a season.2 points
-
And what was that reason? I think in absence of anyone actually having the balls to put out more than hints, the assumption that the reason for the problem is the coach is the most logical conclusion, particularly when there seems more stable mediocricy than improvment in year 2 when he had a whole off season to adress personell issues.2 points

Well, we made the decision to hire a coach who has to go through on the job training, so I guess we've got what we've got for the time being. How we perform over the next couple of weeks will be very telling.2 points

So weird that it's on wiki and impossible to find on the conference's own site. I totally wouldn't expect Wikipedia to have some of the info they do...maybe I should stop doubting and just start looking there first. Just seems kind of random, you know? "Oh, we don't have that info on our site. But check wiki and it'll have all of the answers we don't have available for OUR OWN TOURNAMENT." Anyway yeah thanks...and so if FIU wasn't ineligible would we assume that the 10th seed would have had a first round bye as well?2 points

CUSA isn't as good as it used to be. It's a step up from the Sunbelt, but not a major one. Our record is better than last year, but we also have 3 Non D1 wins. Basically our record is about what it was last season if you look at it that way.2 points

Have absolutely ZERO clue what you are talking about, nor do I have a clue what you seem to think is upsetting about my post. This thread is for folks who ARE playing to tell the coaches a few things for draft day. So, someone posting about not playing is, indeed, interesting. And, I ask plenty of folks for help. If that upsets you for some reason...please PM me with your address and I will be happy to send you a check immediately. Won't even wait until the event is over, will send a personal check immediately. The whole thing is to help our Cheer Team student-athletes. But, I am happy to send your donation back if you are somehow offended. Just let me know how much and where to send it as I have no clue about any donation received from one "green it". Your call.2 points

It certainly isn't due to a lack of funding. Despite being 27th world wide in math, we're number one in per student spending on education. The education issue we have in this country has little to do with funding or football stadiums and everything to do with a lack of focus at home on education and far too many administrative layers of fat between the taxpayer and the student.1 point
