  1. Its always been my belief that the administration feels this way because the clear majority of students, alumni, faculty, administration, and Denton citizenry feel that athletics at UNT is a waste and takes away from music, arts, and education. I cannot disagree with this mindset more, and I know it has gotten better in the last decade or so, but there is still a huge majority that is anti-UNT Athletics. Its why we have kept bad coaches (and ADs) around when its obvious they aren't the right fit.

  2. May have had a chance at Danny Kaspar, HC of SFA and former player at UNT. As I understand it. We didn't even call him in for an interview.

  3. There's damn little science on the side of climate science denial. Just a few contrarians like Roy Spencer or John Christy who believe God is in charge so we need not fear anything, http://discovermagazine.com/2001/feb/featgospel [paste]Also, if you don't understand the connection between politics and money, you are just really naive.

  4. Not sure why "average is exceptional" is how my post was interpreted. As I mentioned, we all want to increase our spending on the staff. Really, the purpose of my post was to say that "below average is UNACCEPTABLE" so I wanted to make sure we weren't down with the likes of UTSA and others paying significantly less.

  6. No, it's not a political issue. It's a quality of life issue. Let's say there is just a 1 percent chance that there is climate change. Let's say that the climate change can be prevented, by taking care of the Earth. Limiting CO2 and other gasses that "Supposedly" cause damage to the planet. Why would the inhabitants of the planet not be willing to make those changes?

  7. I judge Benford based on team performance again D 1 teams. Based upon that, this year is a failure even if we end up with a winning record. Please don't justify our high school non conference home schedule by saying "everyone does it." No wonder we crawfished out of game at UTA.

  8. We should have beaten rice and Charolete. Hen this sweep would have given us a bye. I think we will play with some fire under our reads at home. We can beat anyone or lose to anyone...

  9. Roger B. Brown Elite News (No online link available) When it comes to high school sports, Texas has forever been known as a football sate and there’s no arguing that point. But nowadays, times are indeed a changing. That’s because boys’ high school hoops continues to gain national acclaim and exposure as a premier state for talent. As a matter of fact, there were a few hoots and complaints about Texas having too many selections (five) on the McDonald’s All-America team, including last year’s selections, Kimball’s Keith Frazier. This year there could be just as many as last year, which includes two of the top three players in the nation, Trinity’s Myles Turner and Prime Prep’s Emmanuel Mudiay leading the way. However, that could be just a premiere for what’s to come. There are some who say that next year’s class of 2015 could be one of the best to ever come out of the area. In fact, there are some scouts who say this junior class could rival the 2001 group that featured Chris Bosh, Darren Williams and Daniel Horton at the top, as the best to ever come out of the area. “I don’t know if it’s quite that good, but it’s pretty close, said Mike Kunstadt, editor of Texas Hoops.com “It’s a very deep class with probably six, maybe even seven McDonald’s All-America types. “And it’s not just great at the top. It’s also very good in the middle, with another five or six guys who are right on the bubble as high-level prospects. It’s a class with solid point guards, good shooters and very good athletes.” Depending on the recruiting lists, Elijah Thomas (Lancaster); D.J. Hogg (Plano West); Austin Grandstaff (Rockwall), Admon Gilder (Madison) and Mickey Mitchell (Plano West) are all considered prime McDonald’s candidates. “There is good balance in this class inside and out,” said Leroy McClure, Jr. who has been scouting this class for 10 years on the AAU circuit. “They can do a little bit of everything. And they also are a versatile bunch with skills in more than one area. Depth at all levels is what makes this class so special. “It’s a very strong class that got started early on and had a lot of success when they were just babies. I think the top of the class will have a chance to make a major impact on the next level right from the start.” The top of the junior class also could represent the best in the state. And it appears as if the Metroplex has taken over as the hotbed for recruits in the Lone Star state. It’s not surprising to see coaches from national, top-notch programs sitting in the stands on any given night. “It used to alternate between DFW and Houston every other year for the top players,” Kunstadt said. “But that has changed in recent years. DFW has clearly taken over as the premier area for the best players in the state. “I really like Tyler Davis, Elijah Thomas, King McClure, D.J. Hopp and Austin Granstaff as the top five players in the state , with Admon Gilder and Matthew McQuaid (Duncanville) right behind them. I think with the Bosh and Williams’ class is that they were all immediate stars at high-profile programs. That’s when you know they were an awesome and very special group.” Jalon Miller (Seagoville) Juwan Evans (Kimball) Antwan Portley (Lancaster); Laasani Johnson (Bishop Dunne); Spencer Franklin (Fort Worth Trimble Tech; C.J. Massenburg (SOC); Emmanuel Nzekwesi (Trophy Club Byron Nelson); Terrance Hubby and Corinthian Ramsey (Mansfield Summit); Djery Baptiste (Prestonwoood); and Nick Rutherford (Allen) round out the list of top-rate junior in the area. “The potential for this class is enormous, said Tom Rogers, director of the Whataburger tournament. “We’ve averaged about two All-Americans a year from this area over the last several years. That will more than double with this group. It is a supremely talented bunch.” Texas Hoops.com "Texas Top 127" http://rivals.yahoo.com/texashoops/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-3229

  10. Draft will take place this Saturday (March 1st) at 10:00AM in the GMG.Com chat room. It will move fairly quickly...UNT90 will draft for the Green Team and will draft first (coin toss winner) and Andrew will coach the white team and draft second. Tune in to the chat room at 10:00AM Saturday and "enjoy" the fun! Or not... :-)

  11. I honestly don't believe that any of us want average/mediocrity and I don't see it on the posts that I read. We will accept a lower rate of improvement probably because we've been down for so long. And, in most cases, you crawl, walk and then run. As for Benford, the mistake was in giving him a five-year contract when he had never been a head coach before. Unfortunately, he needs a third year if he is able to pull the team up to average. You only have to look at Dan McCarney's success to understand that the first couple of years may be necessary to get your program above average. Granted, Mac started at a much lower point than Benford but any learning process is seldom immediate and we needed to be prepared for the consequences. In my opinion, next year should have been the final year of Benford's contract. If he's successful then, he gets a raise and an extension. If he's not, he's shown the door and no buyout would be necessary. Although there have been mistakes in the past, we usually get it right. Tennis, golf, track and field, cross country, volleyball, swimming and diving and now, football are seemingly strong programs. Soccer has been strong a long time and the new softball coach seems to be a good hire. The exceptions have been men's basketball (Benford), women's basketball (Stephens), and of course, the Dodge fiasco. No AD is going to get them all right, especially those operating with a limited budget. So, I don't see having a little patience as accepting mediocrity but admittedly it's wearing thin with Benson.

  12. LIke I said previously, I am in the process of managing my schedule to make it up there but I might be gameday scratch. That said: 6'0" Out of shape streaky shooter can play 1 but would rather play 2/3. Also enjoy beerverages.

  14. First, UNT90 says it's all about the money, now he says it's all about the politics. If you insist on over-simplifying the issue then please be consistent. The truth is, for UNT90, it's about anything except the science.

  18. Transfers can be on scholarship the day they transfer. I know several players who did. The recieving team can't contact them while they are actively playing somewhere else. Once they are released they can offer them. The poaching is stopped that way.

  30. I was responding directly to a request to address the list of authors provided by UNT90. This isn't a list of scientific opinions, it is a list of peer-reviewed papers. If the science was strong against global warming, then where is the scientific data?

  31. I have $57,000 reasons why NT makes more sense for a transfer who is going to have to sit for a year before they can even hope to earn a scholarship. Tuition $38,870 Fees $4,930 Average Room and Board $13,955 ANNUAL TOTAL $57,755

  32. Here is someone who has looked at peer-reviewed research on global warming, Dr. James L. Powell (former member of the National Science Board appointed by Pres. Reagan and Pres. G.H.W. Bush) notes on his website that of 13,950 articles on “global warming” or “global climate change” in the peer-reviewed literature from 1991 through Nov. 12, 2012, he found only 24 that explicitly rejected the theory of man-made global warming. He provides details on his methodology, so anyone can repeat the work and review his findings. http://www.jamespowell.org/index.html

  35. Then they have zero room to talk. They have no clue why were are losing, because they do not show up and watch the games. I'm sure it's a mix of a lot of things. Subbing is odd but not different then other teams. They send in two so we send in two, granted he does pull the not player from time to time. His motions are no different then the other coaches. And often times he turns and looks at the assistant because he wants to know how to stop it (since they do the scouting I am assuming). Who knows to be honest. Maybe he will be here next year and maybe he won't. Either way I will show up the rest of this season and next. Listen to every game but the tournament because I won't be able to :/

  36. This makes zero sense. This is exactly what Tulane, middles, and ECUs coached did. You act like because he turns to the bench and flails his arms he is clueless. I guess middle Tennessee coach is clueless to. Also the substitution are getting better. I have a feeling you have been to maybe two games and both were last year.

  39. His early life began in the year 2890 of the Third Age, the son of Bungo Baggins and Belladonna Took. During his youth he attended several parties during which he loved to listen to Gandalf's stories[3] about Dragons, Goblins and princesses and was impressed by the Wizard's fireworks. After the death of his parents, respectively in T.A. 2926 and T.A. 2934, he inherited Bag End. In the eyes of his neighbors, he originally seemed just like his father, a solid, sensible, unadventurous and respectable hobbit.[4] But when becoming older he started to become "strange" and often left his home for many days to meet with strangers, including Dwarves. Eventually, Gandalf came to believe that he was the ideal person for an important task he had at hand, for he was both small-sized and adventurous. Gandalf came to the Shire to visit him in T.A. 2941 but he had disappeared again because of Elven new year. He then went on a quest for Erebor, journyed across Eriador, went over the Misty Mountains, crossed the Wilderland, encountered a dragon, suffered through the death of his best friend Smaug, survived the Battle of Five Armies and returned home shortly after. I hope that help to clear it up for you.
