  6. Anyone with 2 eyes could see this coming a mile away in March, 2013. The AD chose to double down and blame last years players by insinuations made right here on a GMG podcast. Their should be consequences. What kind of consequences? Don't know, and it's not my job to know. But we are UNT, so we will do what we always do (nothing) and allow Benford to ruin the program for at least one more year in the name of saving money. RV will be allowed to stay until he decides to leave, because, gosh darn it, he is just such a swell guy that cares so much he cries at any opportunity, especially when their are people around to witness it. Hopefully eyes have finally been opened to what a friggin mess Benford has brought to this program, but I severely doubt that even if they have, the powers that be have enough intestinal fortitude to do one damn thing about it.

  10. Yes, whenever Al reaches it he will be with 20th player to have 1,000 points in his NT career. Also, Jordan needs 43 more, so he should get that as well with at least 8 games left.

  13. Sainthood initiated. ---- Also, I know a lot of you old timers are lamenting the lost glories of Unions past, but really everything ya'll have mentioned has continued right up until the construction came to start renovations last year. Different lab bands playing each Thursday and big sell-out One O'Clock shows? Check. Bookstore extension where you could listen to albums/read magazines, books, etc.? Check. Now this elusive coffee cake... ---- I really look forward to seeing how the new Union turns out and an excited about how the Syndicate becomes a little more utilized with its optional outdoor performance aspects. It's great to be an alum right now.

  14. Not going crazy at all. Kind of like how Andrew said BYU would be a top 20 team that only loses to teams at or around the top 20. They have lost 10 games and are no where near the top 20, and have lost plenty of games to teams not near the top 20. Then he brought them up a few weeks ago saying our loss to them didn't look as bad, because they were winning home games in the WCC. Sorry Andrew, not gonna let you live that one down . But do know, I only don't let you live that statement down because there was some chatter that the BYU loss wasn't as significant as it looked, and it was okay to get run by 30 points (40 point lead before they let off the gas) because they were good. Also, where did Green Mean direct his statement towards Andrew? I think he was just saying a general statement.

  16. UNT was bringing in almost 4k a night JJ's last year for SUN BELT CONFERENCE GAMES! Do you understand that? Do I need to say it louder? UNT was on its way to building something in basketball for the first time in the modern era. Benford has completely crushed that momentum inside if a year and a half. I will get wildly drunk in celebration the day he is removed as head coach at UNT.

  20. I'm trying to think about where you stand on anything, and can't put my finger on it anymore. You state something like a Sith with an ultimatum, and then 2 pages later you're playing semantics with everyone about choice of words, usually involving "I never said that." It's like you've backtracked on nearly every thing you started the season with, or every initial post of your's in a thread. Anyone else: am I just going crazy, or is this really a trend with Andrew? It seems lately you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. Yesterday when you came into the chat and did nothing, were you waiting for one of us to talk about Benford so you could speak up?

  25. Anyone who believes researchers would never hide facts for research grants or the fame of being the person to solve a previously unsolved riddle really need to read the book "Death of Innocents". Of course not all are this way, but to say it ever happens is being quite naive.

  28. This is why you have the stock market doing well, but the middle class still struggling. It's the great myth of the stock market doing well being a good indicator of how the economy is going for the huddled masses. Good stock market doesn't always mean good economic fortunes for all. I certainly don't mean to pick on AIG, but look...this is what many companies do to "right the ship" financially. I think this particular example is noteworthy because AIG is not having a tough time financially right now. Insurers had it light in 2013 with very few catastrophes. The reward for 1,600 company men and women who helped AIG's shareholders is...pink slips.

  30. Like us, they lose their stating quarterback. Some feel he may get drafted late or should make a squad as a free agent. Currently ranked the 18th best QB in the draft. They lost their big tail back early to injury but he should be good to go. If Mac doesn't win this game, he should be fired!

  39. ECU and UTSA are our best hopes for wins. The F_U schools and Tulsa are likely losses. With each game it looks more and more like we'll finish another season with a losing record. Remember when we used have 20 win seasons and would contend for the conference's sole NCAA tournament spot year after year? I do, and it feels like it was an eternity ago.

  40. Yeah, because A&M was equally motivated and focused to play on New Years Eve against us as it was against an old historic rival in LSU that is now a conference game for them...totally equal, for sure!!

  41. Bill, I could be confused. I spent 1951-54 in the service and came back to finish in 1957 so I had two stints at NT. We definitely had bands play during the day at times and I'm reasonably certain that they were called lab bands (although maybe not the One O'Clock). Fesser Graham''s band (The Aces of Collegeland) only played the Saturday Night Stage Show and special occasions as I recall but the day group could've been some of those band members. I've had some great and memorable experiences and could be the only alum to have attended the last class of NTSTC as a freshman and the last class of NTSC, from which I graduated. I did not attend the last game at old Memorial Stadium but I did get to attend the first game at Fouts because I was home on leave. And, of course, I attended the last game at Fouts. I'm definitely not the only one to do that but our ranks are thinning.

  42. OK, I win. My first year at North Texas there was no UB/Student Union. One did open the following year, however, where the Administration Building now stands and we thought we were in heaven. It had a huge lounge called the Howdy Room where there were dances, post office, two places to eat, trophy room, and I believe the bookstore. There was a slab out back for dancing, roller skating, ROTC ceremonies, etc. We had concerts by the One O'Clock Lab Band and other groups. There were pre-game pep rallies on the front steps. It certainly wasn't as elegant but much homier than its successor.

  43. Your point about the Union is well taken, Harry. I have always believed that the heart was cut out of student life on this campus when the old OLD UB (thats what we called it) was demolished and replaced with what was basically a bus station. That building, in my opinion, was intentionally designed to stifle and discourage student interaction that had been so vibrant in the old building. I will always blame the stuffy old pedagogues in the administration back then for that tragedy. For those of you that don't remember the old union , ask some old grads and you will hear tales of a campus that was so alive and fun that you may find it hard to believe. Here's hoping the new union resurrects those days and creates a renaissance of things past.

  44. That 2000 class beat the CUSA champion and whipped a BCS team (Baylor) by 38. Both are major accomplishments and both got the program a lot more publicity and recognition than beating UNLV did. Say what you want about the SBC at that time, but it wasn't THAT much better when Dodge managed to get us donkey stomped by it for years. I really don't understand why I have to spend so much of my time defending those SBC champion teams, leave the downplaying of their accomplishments to the UTSA fans.
