  1. Bullshit. We are bashing Benford. The kids have loads of potential.

  2. Okay boys and girls. I made the 41/2 hour drive to see this train wreck. Actually I was in town on business. I'm stoopid but... Anyway, this is my first time to watch the D-fire's team play live. I thought some of you were just making stuff up when you talked about yanking the hot hand until I finally witnessed it first hand. In the first half, 5 got a steal and took it to the hole. OD came back down and we got the stop. MG took the ball up the court and 5 took it back to the hole again. I look to the bench and D-fire is pointing to a player to check in. Sure enough, the next whistle, 5 ( the hot hand) is headed to the bench to cool down. EPHING AAAY, WTF, does scoring two buckets in a row fatigue the player? Does D-fire want the hot player to come to the bench to tell the others how he did it? I guess what pisses me off more than anything else is that he seriously cut into my drinking time.

  3. From the first game, it was apparent this hire was like falling down an elevator shaft. Benford needs to go....or someone needs to start putting heat on RV.

  5. Next time you see me blast a player, let me know please. The staff has let these kids down 2 years in a row. WE WERE SO CLOSE TO BEING LIKE SMU IS NOW less than 2 years ago! BENFORD CAN NEVER BE FORGIVEN FOR THIS MESS. Never. This team, as currently constituted, could be top four in CUSA with a different coach. No doubt in my mind.

  7. ECU and UTSA are our best hopes for wins. The F_U schools and Tulsa are likely losses. With each game it looks more and more like we'll finish another season with a losing record. Remember when we used have 20 win seasons and would contend for the conference's sole NCAA tournament spot year after year? I do, and it feels like it was an eternity ago.

  8. Of all the things that you continue to say that are just complete BS and totally untrue, I'm going to stick to one thing that I want to clarify to you and Greg G (Mean_Green09). You guys both keep saying how everyone on this board is too quick to put the blame on Benford, and not giving the fair share to the players. Both of you have cited that those people on this board don't know about being on a team/legitimate basketball team, etc. The thing is, both of you are focusing way too much on what went wrong each individual game, and who messed up where (players and coaches). This is Division 1 basketball. It isn't high school ball, where the coach has to make due with the players who live in his high school's zone and hope they're good. The head coach in D1 basketball has a system, picks his coaching staff, recruits the players to fit his system, and puts the system into place. Obviously you guys both know this stuff, but you both look past it. Benford is fully responsible for the state of the basketball program, not just the losses or the season as a whole. The loss to Old Dominion you can chalk up to player A doing this wrong or player B doing that wrong, but the state of the basketball program is on Tony B, which leads to these losses. And it's clearly only getting worse. As 90 said, it'll be new players' faults every year as long as this continues. And darn these posts for not being productive! Wait till Tony B gets to bring his own players in to control the paint! Oh wait...

  9. That's funny. I thought Andrew blamed the players and not the coach. Whereas most on this board put the blame on the coach. Now I hear that it is all you guys trashing on the players?!! So confused.

  10. Quarterly revenue of $8.62 billion - shareholders rewarded, employees fired...but, will continue to invest in its people. http://www.ibamag.com/news/major-insurer-will-fire-1600-workers-17276.aspx "Property/casualty insurer American International Group says it will reduce its global workforce by approximately 3% by the end of the year. .... Benmosche hopes the severance change will help balance AIG’s balance sheet and streamline the organization, as well as reward company shareholders. Most of the job losses are expected to be in AIG’s property/casualty division, which the insurer hopes to centralize in more low-cost locations. 'We will continue to invest in our people with a competitive pay structure that rewards performance and provides opportunities that enable more internal mobility,' Benmosche added.'" Yes, when you let 1,600 people go, it does tend to free up some positions internally.

  17. We have talked about this TONS OF TIMES Andrew. The difference between what Coach K, John Wooden, Phil Jackson, and God know about basketball and what Benford knows about it are probably miniscule. The difference is in getting your players to actually produce. Coaching isn't BEING knowledgeable...it's IMPARTING that knowledge. Whatever Benford is doing isn't working. You ask what awful coaching is? It's taking where this program 458 days ago, potential Sweet 16 pick by MAJOR NEWS ORGANIZATIONS, to where it is now. That is my argument. That is the only one that effing matters.

Most, if not all, over five years ago during the recruting process. Baylors' too? Damd it old age. Never mind. Don't listen to anything that I might have said.

  28. Yes I do think a lot people were to quick to blame Benford, about certain issues. I've been critical of both the players and coaches. Back in January I had this to say: Here's the deal. I'm convinced there is enough talent within this team to be able to compete on a high level. I give last years team a reprieve bc you had a post guy with a limited low post game and no outside shooting. Plus the injuries. This years team is loaded with guards who can score. They are lacking a low post scoring threat, but you don't need that to win in college basketball. So where does the blame fall? It ultimately falls with the guy that get paid to do a job. He is paid to teach recruit develop and game plan. If his team fails it's his fault. If his team is failing in the fundamentals it's his job to fix it. The best coaches know how to push the right buttons. They know how to get their players to respond to their coaching. I've found the best are the guys who mix fundamentals in with game strategies. Every player needs refreshing of the fundamentals from time to time. If your players aren't executing its your job to fix it. Take out and teach them what they did wrong. If they can't fix it well you brought them here so it still comes back to you. As the head coach you are responsible for all aspects of your program. You are responsible for all failure and success. There is no reason this team can't figure it out by the end of the season. I hope they do. If we don't see development and progress in the players then it will come back to the coach.

  29. Two issues have been raised on this thread that should be addressed: the ‘hockey stick’ controversy and climategate’. The ‘hockey stick’ refers to the iconic graph showing a dramatic increase in global surface temperatures beginning about 150 years ago. Climate science deniers have criticized the statistics behind the graph, suggesting that the use of proxy data for early periods of the analysis were inappropriate & may reflect an attempt by scientists to deliberately mislead. The data, the statistical analyses, and the interpretations were reviewed by several independent panels including the National Research Council which was asked by Congress to investigate the science behind the controversy. The NRC had minor quibbles about the statistics but produced a report that was generally supportive of the original work and of the ‘hockey stick’. The second controvery – Climategate – concerns an attack on the integrity of science and scientists. A hacker stole about 1,000 emails and a mass of other files from the Climatic Research Unit of East Anglia University. Most of the emails were written by or addressed to Dr. Philip Jones (Director of the CRU), Dr. Timothy Osborn (a climate scientist at CRU), Dr. Keith Briffa (a climate scientist at CRU who does tree ring analyses), and Dr. Mike Hulme (Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research). The hacked emails were cherry-picked, taken out of context, and published on science denial blogs around the world. An example of an email that gave the critics glee was from Dr. Kevin Trenbert which said, “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t" was interpreted to suggest that Dr. Trenbert was expressing doubt about the data supporting global warming. However, if you actually read the discussion containing this message you will understand that the point concerned a need for better monitoring of energy flow in short-term climate variability. Did the anti-science bloggers purposefully mischaracterize the email? Surely not. An investigation by the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee found, "the scientific reputation of Professor Jones and CRU remains intact". An independent review of the evidence by the Science Assessment Panel found, "no evidence of any deliberate scientific malpractice in any of the work of the Climatic Research Unit." Numerous other reviews reached similar conclusions. The truth however matters little to ideologues bent on using ‘climategate’ to undermine confidence in climate science and climate scientists. They’re willing to spread old canards knowing that so many of the public are ignorant about science and are unlikely to catch them in their lies.

  30. I've been rewatching all these guys film lately and looking at our roster down the road, and I see Tillman Johnson being a 3-year starter. I see him being in the rotation this year and taking over for either Q Brown or Darryl Mason after this year. He might only be 6'1" or 6'2", but he has a good build and long arms, and he could potentially play strongside or weakside defensive end. Really love this pickup and this class. Forgot to add, we had some players offensively and defensively with some crazy stats. Brandon Garner had 10 sacks as a linebacker, Andrew Jones giving up just one completion all year, Goree's 28 receiving tds and all the other skill guys putting up crazy numbers, but Tillman Johnson's numbers seemed to get overlooked by us. Tillman had 7 sacks, and an astounding 37 tackles for loss and 4 forced fumbles. Coach em up Coach KP!

  39. Had a little run in last night with a UNT student at sports authority. So if you haven't been to sports authority in Denton lately UNT athletics is up to one entire rack of clothing wear! (still disappointing) So we were checking out and the cashier looked of collegiate age so i made a simple statement of "you think there will ever be a larger selection of UNT apparel" He came back with the statement "NEVER they are terrible." I then made a statement that UNT won the Heart of Dallas bowl this year. His comeback was well OU won the Sugar Bowl. All i said was Apple and Oranges. So i calculated that obviously he was not a UNT student. So i attempted to try and brighten the mood and say atleast there is not a Texas Tech selection (trying to find something maybe we agree on). He then said yeah but atleast there is a large selection of OU merchandise. So i then calculated he went to OU. So i asked him if he graduated from OU. He response was "no i go to UNT." WHAT THE HELL so i was immediately angry and long story short. I told him he can take HIS SOONER a$$ back to Oklahoma.
