that "overrated hack" jj lost to a struggling A&M team by 10... in the same arena that benford and a less talented Mean Green squad took A&M to the woodshed4 points

Hi Rick, I'd really like to understand why you believe climate change science is a hoax. Is it because you are in posession of better data? Or better analyses? Skepticism is good. There's nothing wrong with keeping an open mind & refusing to buy unproven conclusions. But your doubt should be tentative & you should be willing to consider that maybe the other guy is right. Otherwise you're basing your arguments on ideology - not science. Keep green!4 points

OK, I win. My first year at North Texas there was no UB/Student Union. One did open the following year, however, where the Administration Building now stands and we thought we were in heaven. It had a huge lounge called the Howdy Room where there were dances, post office, two places to eat, trophy room, and I believe the bookstore. There was a slab out back for dancing, roller skating, ROTC ceremonies, etc. We had concerts by the One O'Clock Lab Band and other groups. There were pre-game pep rallies on the front steps. It certainly wasn't as elegant but much homier than its successor.4 points

Meh. I'll be watching the Olympics. They only occur every 4 years. Benford beatings occur every week.2 points

Bill, I could be confused. I spent 1951-54 in the service and came back to finish in 1957 so I had two stints at NT. We definitely had bands play during the day at times and I'm reasonably certain that they were called lab bands (although maybe not the One O'Clock). Fesser Graham''s band (The Aces of Collegeland) only played the Saturday Night Stage Show and special occasions as I recall but the day group could've been some of those band members. I've had some great and memorable experiences and could be the only alum to have attended the last class of NTSTC as a freshman and the last class of NTSC, from which I graduated. I did not attend the last game at old Memorial Stadium but I did get to attend the first game at Fouts because I was home on leave. And, of course, I attended the last game at Fouts. I'm definitely not the only one to do that but our ranks are thinning.2 points

Had a little run in last night with a UNT student at sports authority. So if you haven't been to sports authority in Denton lately UNT athletics is up to one entire rack of clothing wear! (still disappointing) So we were checking out and the cashier looked of collegiate age so i made a simple statement of "you think there will ever be a larger selection of UNT apparel" He came back with the statement "NEVER they are terrible." I then made a statement that UNT won the Heart of Dallas bowl this year. His comeback was well OU won the Sugar Bowl. All i said was Apple and Oranges. So i calculated that obviously he was not a UNT student. So i attempted to try and brighten the mood and say atleast there is not a Texas Tech selection (trying to find something maybe we agree on). He then said yeah but atleast there is a large selection of OU merchandise. So i then calculated he went to OU. So i asked him if he graduated from OU. He response was "no i go to UNT." WHAT THE HELL so i was immediately angry and long story short. I told him he can take HIS SOONER a$$ back to Oklahoma.2 points

I appreciate the humor, but as the Ticket said the other day: "Conan failed because the nation wasn't ready for the masturbating bear."2 points

Rick, I don't think these ebbs & flows of weather counteract the gradual changes seen at a higher level. Yes it's cold in the U.S. right now, but I have a friend in Germany who says their winter was unusually warm this year and they've had much less snow than they normally do. Are we to assume that means the world is going to melt in 5 years?2 points

Tell Andrew and myself (otherwise known as myself and myself) about your basketball ability. A little about height/weight, playing experience, beer drinking ability, age, position you like to play, etc... We need some info on the talent available.1 point

What!? I don't know why the Supremes think they can just try something new here.Things are changing, but do they really got the power over C&C to make everybody dance around this issue now? I guess they just want this debate to keep hanging on, but it really doesn't seem like it's up for discussion.1 point

I probably would've said worse. Seriously, though, screw Sports Authority in Denton.1 point

Nice write up, but they couldn't find a better picture? It's hard to believe they even got a picture from the bowl game with an empty section in the background. Harder still that they couldn't find another photo that was more reflective of the atmosphere that day.1 point

Pointless. Benford needs better results. He knows it, everyone knows it. A JJ loss in College Station tells me nothing.1 point

There will always be a few of these types around. I know a UNT grad from the early Oughts who has never set foot on the campus of any SEC school, yet claims whichever one of them is doing best each season like he was a die-hard alum, all the while crapping on anything positive coming out of UNT football. He's not the first person with this kind of attitude I've known around here. D/FW is rife with sports front runners, and they exist even in our current student population and our alumni. Best thing to do is just ignore them. They're miserable.1 point

Hey, if you want to argue the science or validity of a scientific argument, there's plenty of degree programs in climatology and the like. Until someone on the board reveals they have a PhD in climatology or any science for that matter, i'm not exactly taking it as an expert opinion. I just don't think the "it's cold this winter so global warming isn't real" argument is going to go very far with the scientific community.1 point

I don't care if we recruit the second coming of Michael Jordan to NT, if you don't qualify academically and don't play one second for NT, I don't see how you can say you recruited a great player. All you really recruited was potential. Remember they are a student first and an athlete second. Win in the classroom, then win on the court/field.1 point

Dickey was fired and then the regents over turned the decision. Why do you think Dickey and RV never got along after that?1 point

Yeah, because A&M was equally motivated and focused to play on New Years Eve against us as it was against an old historic rival in LSU that is now a conference game for them...totally equal, for sure!!1 point

Trilli was very Todd Dodge-like...He was a great figure head and could really make you believe we were on the cusp of building something great. But he couldn't outcoach your below-average Denton YMCA coach during games. The schedule was murdererous, but he actually wanted that schedule because he truly believed that we were following the UT recipe under Penders, where they would play any big name team anytime, anywhere in his first few years in Austin, which led them to elevating their program upwardly rather quickly. So, for that, I never really blamed him. He wanted the program to be able to compete. We beat UALR, Buffalo, and A&M in his time here, but we just got crushed by almost everyone else who had a pulse. The P5 losses were completely understandable--even the Maryland beatdown was comparable to Dodge's opening beatdown at a top 5 OU team--but the Big West games were just brutal, too, as we never even competed with most of those schools, especially on the road. Trilli was an achiever, outside of coaching, in that he could talk his way into anything--recruiting, fundraising, and making others feel like we were about to turn the corner. He deserved to be fired after Year 3, but we had no funds (apparently) to fire him with a couple of years on the contract. Just liek Todd Dodge. Benford is more like Dickey to me. He came in here, with the hope of improving on the team he inherited, which had talent, but his gameplan didn't really fit the talent here. Granted, the talent differential between Simon's leftovers and JJ's leftovers was gigantic, but just in terms of taking over a talented team, we really fell back--or in Benford's case, we just fell down into the Grand Canyon from a helicopter. But he has only had two years here, his contract makes him almost unfireable by typical UNT standards, so he will get at least one more year and probably two more years to get it going. It was midway thru Year 4 that Dickey got the ultimatum from RV and he turned it around, leading to the SBC run that got him an extension. Problem for Benford is that CUSA hoops, even in its current state, is still much harder to win in than the start-up SBC was in football. If Benford starts calling us MFers, we will know how this thing will end. Just like the debate about who was better, Dickey or Dodge, for the program, this argument really gets solved in the same easy fashion: Neither was the right fit for football, just as neither of the basketball coaches was or has been right for this program. Johnny Jones is gonna be our Hayden Fry, almost guaranteed. We will talk about his greatness as he takes LSU to the Tournament and wins the SEC every once in a while, just like Fry did at Iowa. And we will follow JJ up with spares that will only enhance JJs reputation in Denton for decades to come. Its how the cycle works, unfortuantely...unless the university finally does something different than what its track record has been on failing head coaches with years remaining on their contracts.1 point

I considered UT (didn't want to go to school in my home town...even though I was an avid Horns supporter in those days...but now I bleed green), Texas Tech (Lubbock...enough said), Southwest Texas State (as it was called in those days....too rinky dink then) and North Texas (which I quickly fell in love with). Went to Denton and never looked back.1 point

You absolutely know that Trilli can't coach when he had his sorry record with these players... Chris Davis Deginald Erskin Kenneth Mangrum Jason Miller Calvin Williams And, with decent coaching you could've added D.J. Tennell, Wes Allen, and Unjel Masters at the least.1 point

Great, How about firing a basketball coach that isn't succeeding. Better yet, how about never hiring that career assistant that had interviewed for other head coaching jobs without success (now we know why). How about hiring a known coaching commodity named Fran Fracilla, who was salivating for the job, yet apparently just cost too much. Or you can choose to believe that Benford beat him out fair and square in the interview process. Highly doubtful.1 point

No disrespect, but shut the rebuilding stuff up. Expect more. There is ample talent on this roster to compete and win in the CUSA in 2014.1 point
