Thank you UNT fans for all the support, time & effort you guys put in my cousin Xavier to get him to UNT.. He loves UNT & the coaching staff he had a great time on his visits in Denton. He is a academic achiever & just could not pass up a $360,000 scholarship offer from Northwestern.. If it wasn't for the academics he would be signing with the mean green. Me personally I love UNT & wish he signed to yall.. Go Mean Green!6 points

There's something we can do on August 30th to greatly diminish DFW's interest in that game.4 points

"That wasn't the question. do you like your job?" She was terrible! Take the most affordable university in the area and rail the brand new president about tuition? She can over pronounce her name all day, but can't learn his? Wtf?4 points

The reps for the merchandiser is the one that pushes the product, talks the store manager into gaining shelf space, pushes the product that sells the most,..etc. It's those folks who we need to win over, but our reputation with them is less than stellar. I had a meeting with the rep from Hat World/Lidz several years back and our constant changing of colors and logos hurt us severely according to him. Since that time, our logos and colors have been stable. The SOW has been here for a decade or so, so that shouldn't be the problem any more. Once I pushed for Zephyr and Top Of the World to enter into NT licensing contracts, their reps pushed it onto the shelves as a new, vibrant product solely unique to a special design Zephyr had done. And often times their products were bought up to the point where when I asked retailers if they had any more NT hats in my size I got a "We can't keep NT hats in stock". And it was simple. I approached two of the most popular hat manufacturers by phone, sold their regional head-of-sales on North Texas and talked both men into giving North Texas a chance. The Zephyr guy later told me their X Line design they did for us was the most successful product for that line in our region. And it cost me nothing more than maybe an hour total worth of time on the phone with each. So overall, it's a lack of effort on NT's behalf as to why more gear isn't out in the metroplex. Don't believe me take a trip to San Antonio and see what they are doing down there. Like Texas State has for several years now, they are blowing our doors off merchandise-wise. There's no reason for it other than we allow it to be. As soon as our leadership on campus chooses to make the decision to change this, then we will. When that will happen..who knows? Rick3 points

On a positive note, I thought NT's new President handled a bad interview very well. This guy is smooth and that goes a long way.3 points

Exactly! Maybe even insuring the furniture at retail. Mac knows what he's doing. Don't begrudge the man. He gave UNT $1 million when we really needed it. Oh, who was supposed meet him at the SuperDome?3 points

The one thing i really really like, is that 10 out of the 12 games are played IN THE STATE OF TEXAS! Should be great exposure and great traveling for the team and fans. Go Mean Green!3 points

I got the most important retweet I've had in my short history with Twitter. Came from Xavier's Mom. Upon viewing her profile, I notice right before my retweet she tweeted, "Plz remember my son is a 17 yr old kid when tweeting. This was very hard and emotional choice for him plz think of his feelings." @Apex_mom I hope this is mostly directed at the UH fan base. Was I bummed? Of course! But this young man made a decision that he felt was best for HIM. That's what all these college athletes do. Fan is short for fanatic, but you can make the decision to carry yourself in a respectful manner. X will talk to juniors who will become seniors and new prospects. He will tell them "I didn't go to UNT, but man, I wish I did. He'll list the many reasons why, and then either say "...and their fans showed me major respect even after I didn't go there". Or, "...but, I didn't go there and I got slammed by every Mean Green fan". Please be mindful that social media is a powerful tool that can work in our favor, or not. It's all a matter of how we decide to use it. As Coach Mac said on the radio show after my Facebook questions was reworded and taken entitrely out of context, "Let's take the negativity out of it." That has become my new motto.3 points

Akunne has been clocked running 4.4 speed. I don't think I would say he is slow. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/111070/derek-akunne2 points

I would buy it. It needs the Apogee stadium with a mean green logo labeled on a David Crockett hat along with a UNT flag both hanging on display with the wind blowing either on top or beside the stadium. Add a cannon or two to the mix. It would make for a good rivalry shirt. Also, it would be nice to have a piece of hardware to take back with us when we do win that is very dear to them.2 points

Call me a skeptic, but I doubt FIU is getting BC, Pitt, and Louisville at home. It seems someone mixed up the home team and the visiting team. Then again, if even one of those are home games, FIU would have brought a more marque team to their home stadium than we have in the 1st four years at Apogee. Yet, we still whore ourselves out to any big boy that is interested. Football Scheduling. The absolute worst thing we do.2 points

Maybe so, but 49th in rebounding sure looks a lot better than 332nd in assists and 250th in FG %. Not that any of that really matters, since we are obviously doing very few positive things consistently on a team basis, while the individual performances deserving of accolades are pretty few and far between themselves. I guess I'll just have to grab hold of any ray of sunshine I can dig up this season.2 points

Hope things work out well for him. Feels better losing out to the Big 10's purple school than the Big 12's. Who knows, maybe we'll see each other in a bowl game or wearing green down the road.2 points

Awful interview, what's wrong with Ch 8?? Also, what was up with her not knowing the difference between scholarships, grants and student loans??? That was just embarrassing.2 points

2014 will be my first year as a student at North Texas. I was already excited when I got accepted, but in the mix of the football team's rise: it makes me more restless! I wish I could have attended the Heart of Dallas Bowl, but plan on attending every home game. Plus, I wouldn't mind taking trips to Austin, Houston and San Antonio. As for the "rivalry" with UTSA, I hope it happens. I have a friend who will be attending UTSA and still hasn't let me forget the Roadrunners cost North Texas a berth in the Conference USA Championship Game.2 points

I think we have the second to worst rebounding margin in the conference. Or something like that. We've been bullied on the boards and been outrebounded in almost all of our conference games. Not to mention BYU outrebounded us 60-38. As has been said on here, rebounding may not be one of our top problems, but it has been an exposable weakness. Our total rebounding rank is very misleading.2 points

I don't want to see us change our jerseys. I would like to see a change in the helmet though. There is likely no one who prefers North Texas over SOW.2 points

That was a terrible interview. I could think of about 80 other things she could have chosen to talk about, especially with her headline of raising the reputation of the university. She talked too much, the pictures looked like the entire campus did circa 1986. That shot could have been in the radio shack add. Tragic and not a solid effort on her part at all. Best part - GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!2 points

Was it ideal? No. That said his donation came at a time when few were stepping up and was sorely needed. So I could care less the name on the practice field the money was pivotal.2 points

Felt almost as if Izzy comes from that "in between bracket" (like many do) between "full-federal aid eligible" and "my parent's can pay for this", and had a bone to pick with such. ---- Also, how lazy was that B-roll? Set up a tripod in the Art Building parking lot and just swivel to shots of cars and the rears of buildings? La-zy.2 points

Assuming that the guys moving up (and in) on the depth chart to start this fall are healthy and properly prepared & motivated, this could/should be a 12-0 season. I'm not drinking kool-aid folks. Our team is no longer in awe of "big time" programs like Texas. We'll play them the same as we played Georgia last year. But this year our chances are much better.2 points

Good luck to him and it's good school, yes. But UNT is just as good of a school. I'm sure he'll still have a great career. Now it's time to focus on our guys, those who are passionate about playing for the Mean Green.2 points

10 games inside the state of Texas. That has to be good for recruiting. Also, by them matching us up vs. UTSA the last game of the season indicates to me they expect both teams to be in the running for the divisional championship. I expect UTSA to end up being our main rival within the conference. Last years loss still tastes bad. Can't wait for some more football.2 points

Temeka Samuels is the Assistant AD in charge of the Ticket Office. wardly, as a club level guy myself, I was encouraged to renew online, or by returning the form, once I received my renewal. Apparently, folks in the club level are a different group, which is fine by me2 points

DT, You were the captain of the ship that delivered the most surprisingly positive season of my UNT sports fandom. Dude, I wish you all the luck in the world. We doubted you, and you delivered. The cherry on top was gutting out a dominating second half of football to close out your UNT career. I think you might have been the straw that stirred the drink that got the mean green faithful intoxicated to the point of actually...well, waking up the sleeping giant. Time will tell, but, man, go and give it your all. I will be a fan of yours if you play in the nfl, nfl Europe, Canadian football, or a coach anywhere. Thank you and good luck man.2 points

Really not a big deal. Desoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, S. Grand Prairie, Mansfield Timberview and Mansfield have been tough for a few years now. (football & basketball) In fact, one poll 2-3 years ago had them ranked 1,2,3 in the state (basketball) For the past 2 years, Desoto (football) blew Cedar Hill away in district. With the 2 largest schools in district advancing to the big school playoffs and the 2 smallest advancing to small school playoff, Cedar Hill (small school) benefited the most. As the district runner-up, the hill played in the State Finals in 2012 and won state in 2013. The better Desoto squad has not been able to advance beyond the state semi's. With some many teams making the playoffs, winning the district title doesn't mean as much as it use to.1 point

I love it!! A great schedule for a team on the rise! Bowl eligible should be no problem (man it feels nice to be able to say/think that). UTSA as a rival... sure why not? They came to our house last year and took the Division Championship right from our hands (and didn't even win it themselves). Perhaps when we meet this year the meeting will be for the goods again and we can give them a taste of their own medicine. GO MEAN GREEN!!!1 point

So we go back to being the North Texas of old and crawl back in our hole? Well..............I don't think so as long as Coach McCarney is around in Mean Green Country and we keep hiring future head football coaches that have very similar bios as he had before he arrived in Denton. It has made a difference and I just don't know what took us so long to get back to that kind of hiring modus operendi once again. GMG!1 point
