At least a good game today by the ladies winning 66-58 over UAB. Good tight rotation by Petersen today, with 6 players getting most of the minutes.5 points

This isn't coaching....definitely players. These guys just need to play better. I mean there is only so much your coaches can do.4 points

If disappointment hits, I hope they notice UNT's stellar walkon program and show up with a chip on their shoulder while their family comes out to be a new part of the Mean Green family. I haven't mentioned this in these terms, but Mac's walkon opportunities are very similar to how I got my (academic) scholarship when somebody else turned theirs down to go elsewhere. Being the second-chance guy, and knowing it, makes you really want to prove you were worth the effort put into giving you a chance at an education. And when you're the first in your family to get a degree, well, you really strive to prove you've got what it takes. I hope everybody who feels like they were lost in the shuffle picks North Texas, because many of us can attest to the fact that if you're the odd man out, UNT is a place where you can soar to greater heights. I'm sounding really cheesy, but it's the truth. UNT is a place where "I wish" becomes "I did."4 points

Being the 70th rated player out of 87 ain't gonna cut it for the starting QB. He better pick it up or else he will end up giving a job away.3 points

We're currently 13th in a 16 team conference. We're not in a position to be assuming wins. Not yet at least.3 points

Some transfers dont work out because if work ethic and attitude. They leave thier first school, but the same problems and issues follow. Dont know what happened with Wallace at Oregon, but he has been killing it so far at UNT. Wintrich and staff do not give out compliments easily, and he has nothing but praise for Wallace. He will be a great replacement at one of the linebacker spots and looks like he will be one of the leaders next season.3 points

It's such a shame how how quickly this team has fallen. We have a lot of talent on this team, but the coaching staff has no clue what to do with it. The house that Johnny built. The house that Benford blew up.2 points

Losing by 30 to a team with a losing record ain't getting it done. Especially given we had a week to prepare.2 points

I think he means RV is not gonna feel the booster pressure to fire Benford that he would if football was also struggling.2 points

Longtime fan ShaneB is at the game and is not happy. So at least we can be thankful we aren't him right now.2 points

Holy crap this! I stopped by Apogee yesterday while they were running through their offseason workouts. Wintrich and his staff were drilling the eff out of them. They don't care it's offseason. They were working their arses off. And the players loved it and were responding.2 points

Don't know if it's been posted but apparently defending champion Terrence Ross wants our very own Tony Mitchell in this year's NBA Dunk Contest... http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/25/defending-dunk-contest-champion-terrence-ross-names-his-desired-challengers-tony-mitchell-andre-drummond-and-victor-oladipo/ Specifically though, the first name that Ross came up with in terms of guys he would like to see challenge him was Detroit’s Tony Mitchell. Now Mitchell isn’t exactly a household name in the NBA yet, but then again neither was Ross a year ago when he won.“In my opinion, if he gets in it he’ll be in the position I was in last year,” Ross said. “Nobody kind of knows he can dunk, I mean they know he can dunk, but they don’t know what he can do. I know he’s a freak athlete from what I’ve heard.” (yes, this is what Terrence Ross was doing last night)2 points

Flyonthewall: No abuse from me, but...My perspective on Lane Rawlins after having watched the NT leadership waffle and flat cave-in over the last 20 - 30 years is that someone who was not afraid of career derailment needed to keep this program on a solid footing and yes, "drive the bus" without getting pushed off course. Rawlins did that during very tough state university economic and political challenges. This University has had a tendency to get nervous and drop out of major college competitive strategies, i.e., drop from D-I, hire low-cost, unproven coaches and "carve out", not just "cut" corners only to remain a Metroplex doormat. Rawlins drove the ship, yes, and it has actually stayed on course.2 points

Lest anyone think I'm operating from old experiences in my disdain for our branding department or just anyone in our administration, let me share a recent experience. My neighbor across the street is a TCU grad. Her boyfriend is a Texas Tech grad, and recently he put up a "house divided Tech/TCU flag ourside her home. He told me that he acquired the flag at the TCU bookstore (like NT run by Barnes and Noble), and he added that he thought that he saw some TCU/NT house divided flags the last time he was there. Well, since my son is married to a TCU grad, I thought that that might be a nice gift to give them. So I called the TCU bookstore to see if they had any TCU/NT house divided flags in stock. The very helpful woman on the other end of the phone said no they didn't. She said that I could get a TCU/OU, TCU/OSU, TCU/Texas (and Tech) and a TCU/A$M flag. I commented that I was surprised that they didn't have more calls for the TCU/NT flags and she said that they did get a lot of request for that combination. I then asked why they didn't stock them. Her response? "because North Texas refused to sign off on letting us have the flags made". There it is folks. An opportunity to have our logo flying outside homes in Fort Worth and our short sighted administration prevented it. Typical........2 points

Interesting. UNT is considering refinancing the CP that was used to partially pay for stadium construction into long-term debt. Looks to me that the intent is to extend the Athletic Fee. We talked about this when the bill was passed in Austin, and that the University would have many options to keep the Athletic Fee in place indefinitely. Projects utilizing interim commercial paper that will require long term debt support: Football Stadium at UNT ($27,690,000). The original project budget for the UNT football stadium was set at an amount not to exceed $78 million. At the March 2011 Board of Regents meeting an order was approved to increase the budget to $79,011,000. The University of North Texas System (UNTS) previously issued $48 million in long term debt with the Series 2009A bond issue. The remaining $30 million was financed using commercial paper (CP), of which $27.69 million is currently outstanding. This issuance will refund $27.69 million of CP to RFS fixed rate long term debt. The estimated annual additional debt payment depending on the blend of taxable and non-taxable debt will range from $1.76 million to $1.88 million and will be funded from donations and/or Athletic operations, with debt service for the total project not to exceed 50% from the student Athletic fee.1 point

Below quote is written under Caleb's video from the Scout Recruiting Service....(still kinda' strange that Rivals gives him 3 stars and Scout still "only" gives him 2 stars--will that number go up from Scout as it should)? OR.....Is The 2 Star Bit With Chumley A Conspiracy! Bush? SMU? (Heck, gotta' blame somebody)! Read and let this soak in with your morning cup of coffee: "Chumley played receiver before moving to quarterback in week nine. In his first game under center he passed for 505 yards, ran for 170 yards and scored seven touchdowns, earning Performer of the Week honors." Is Scout pulling a few legs with that or what? If correct, I think some of us will be quite blown away with those stats, right? (Can I say..............day'um)?!? GMG!1 point

Well, looks like I got excited too early. TMitch was just assigned to the Mad Ants again... http://www.nba.com/pistons/node/76752 AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has re-assigned rookie guard Peyton Siva and rookie forward Tony Mitchell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Development League (D-League). Siva and Mitchell will begin their second stint with the Mad Ants this season. With Dunk Contest participants being announced next week, I assume he'll have to wait to next season.1 point

The quarterback doesn't have to be Ivan Drago in the weight room, but he does have to give good effort. It does not seem like DW is doing that (and the other freshmen in the program seem to be doing just fine.). If this kid isn't giving effort in the weight room it would be likely he isn't giving effort somewhere else... on the practice field, the film room, the classroom? Doesn't sound like he is working like a Mac or Coach C QB. And I love these offseason public workout evaluations. It holds the players accountable, motivates them and puts pressure on them to perform.1 point

This is so weird for me. I went to Elkhart from kindergarten through high school graduation. This Jeffrey dude has apparently been hitting on my little sister and my parents don't like him. So weird to see him mentioned in this capacity.1 point

I think you guys are reading way too much into this. More than likely he was visiting Tillman Johnson , whom he's been recruiting. Just because a kid commits doesn't mean you stop pursing him. Always, always have to make sure you know where you stand so you don't get blindsided come signing day1 point

I think the committed players should be stack ranked using Rivals.com's rating system as of Feb. 1st. The bottom five should be gray-shirted, blue-shirted or yellow-shirted; to make room for the top 5 (Scouts rated) uncommitted that would like to sign with UNT. Unless they are kickers who may not have qualified by January 15th. If those uncommitted hold a Texas State offer they should move up the chain regardless of ESPN' s rankings. (Unless they played ball in Louisiana or 2A in Texas) Denton Buyer and Billy Ryan kids would be the exception.1 point

UNT has negotiated a six-year corporate naming rights sponsorship agreement with HUB International Texas, Inc. for signage and others promotional rights. HUB International will become the exclusive Naming Rights Sponsor of the UNT Apogee Stadium Club Level (the “HUB Club”) for the term of the agreement through August 31, 2019. Over a period of the next six years, $525,000 will be paid in Sponsorship Fees.1 point

Love reading all the opinions....sorta' what makes the Mean Green Nation so darn diverse and interesting. I appreciate what Lane Rawlins did by simply being a friend and ally for the athletic program. He could have done the complete opposite and haven't most of us seen that picture show in the past? Thanks, President Emeritus Lane Rawlins! GMG! PS: Best part is Dr. Rawlins can (somewhat) guide our new President Smatresk along and save a lot of wasted "breaking in a new president" time as well. In many ways, Dr. Smatresk will be able to start his new job on the run and that is what our chief fund-raiser is going to really need to get the necessary Tier 1 Research University status monies raised. It will be a tall Texas-like challenge but he seems to have the skins on the wall as well as his having a pretty good track record of success in that very department from UNLV.1 point

If we want to stay at the top level of classification we better get used to paying for it. I know not everyone can afford it, and I am in no way trying to cast aspersions on anyone who can't, but if we don't find enough people who have the extra money and choose to spend it on this, we are going to be in whatever the second lower classification is. Also I believe the helmets are $300 each when the program buys them from the distributor, so they are in essence charging replacement cost.1 point
-
The 300 bucks was to recoup their actual cost. Yes, it's a chunk of change, but it really wasn't an effort to "stick it to everyone." And UNT had nothing to do with the cost of refreshments at the Cotton Bowl. There are some shortcomings over at the A.D., but I don't think the cost of these things are among them.1 point

Most other schools the public can purchase the exact gear that players and coaches wear. Here, the athletic department and retail stores purchase blanks from Nike and put on whichever logo they want. For example, the Nike coaches gear and player warmups all have "North Texas Football" embroidered on. Those items aren't available to the public. Then the bookstore and Voertman's will have gear with multiple variations of the UNT logo. It's time we get Nike on board to mass produce UNT gear, so the fans can buy the same items the players and staff wear, like most other schools.1 point

I am a big fan of the interlocking NT. Recently, I added a NT patch I got from Kram 1 to one of my hats. Looks great! I do agree that we need more for kids. My daughter has some UNT stuff but as she gets older I hope there is a better selection.1 point

Get the UNT communications dept. (branding dept.) out of the loop and press on with the interlocking NT Star. If asked, the alumni assn. would make it available....perhaps.1 point
