Don't worry.. He's still going to his UNT visit next weekend.. 'I just got off the phone with him' the MeanGreen still has a chance...3 points

You can get a really good idea of the day-to-day workout psyche of the players by perusing the group reports Coach Wintrich posts on that page. ---- Side Note: My wife, younger sister and I went to I [heart] Sushi the other night. Place was full, but we patiently waited to be seated as we were told that some tables would come available shortly. Coach Wintrich and his lady were wrapping up their meal in the middle of the room, and as soon as we walked in, he eyed me. This wasn't some passing glance but rather a pierce-your-facade-evaluate-you-for-all-your-worth-and-see-if-you're-qualified-to-enjoy-the-air-your-breathing sort of stare down for a full minute. I've never been as intimated for as long as I can remember. We ended up replacing them at their table, and on their way out, I thought to say something to the effect of, "Hey Coach, thanks for the outstanding work you've done with our players, preparing them both mentally and physically to do what they did on the field this year." Instead, all that came out of my tepid mouth was, "Thanks, Coach." He turned to face me and gave me a look of bewilderment. I turned and wished I had never said anything. I don't think I've ever felt the mixed emotions of scared-sh*tless combined with utter pride and reassurance that a team I root for has such a guy looking over them year round. Dude's awesome.3 points

Kaho is on our Football Performance Facebook page and received high marks from Wintrich's crew for his workout Friday. I am really looking forward to the D-line performance next year. I believe between Wintrich and our new coach we will see some great stuff next year.3 points

I find all this "facebook" stuff kinda creepy. Whatever happened to calling up the lady at the switchboard and asking to be connected to a friend?3 points

Watched the ladies lose today in the last second..now the men. Ouch! Hey, at least we had fun at the pre-game tailgate. Cold beer .... Cold free beer! And the dogs were pretty darn good too!3 points

I really love our walkon program. If we find just one starter or significant contributor it is like playing with house money.3 points

Just FYI...the Mean Green's very own Alum and Letterman, JEFF RODGERS, is heading to the a Super Bowl as the Denver a Bronco Special Team's Coordinator! The Mean Green a Nation is EVERYWHERE! Congrats to Jeff. Good luck with the a Super Bowl!2 points

I don't think our basketball players being properly conditioned cracks the top 20 of this thems problems.2 points

I'm thinking this is an example of how highlighting a single sentence in a paragraph can be misleading. Without the emphasis applied, I read the sentence in question as a statement to a prospective student who wants to pursue a career as a band director that Green Brigade involvement will aid that pursuit. I don't read that as a commitment to this as the singular objective of the organization. I think the Green Brigade does a great job of reaching both objectives - supporting the Athletic Department and developing music professionals.2 points

Seroke came to UNT about the same time as JJ. You either need to find another scapegoat, or believe that he is falling out of his prime.2 points
-
Who knows, however you are assuming that Seroka is not up to Wintrich's standard. The whole purpose to have a dedicated football strength coach is that they are not shared by other sports. The other sports benefit also because they have a strength coach that is not almost totally involved in football. So, Seroka is either good at his job or not. If he is not, then NT needs to get someone that is. Sharing Wintrich should not be an option.2 points

Spent a lot mof money on what ? I agree. Perhaps a bunch of phone calls and maybe a visit or two. I am not the fan of hayden Fry that many on this board are. I think he did his job while he was here. He did a good job and the public bought in to what he was doing. However, his first allegience was to himself. And when a better opportunity came along, as most college coaches, he took the better job. Fry was at North Texas for fewer years than any of his other head coaching jobs. The SWC possibility was wishful thinking on the part of Mean Green fans. And since Fry came from a SWC school, many of us thought he had an inside track to SWC membership. Looking back with a more mature eye, it was never to be. And by the way, Coach MaC has a better record through 3 seasons than Fry. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN2 points

I was at the Men's game! Took my grandson to see his dad. BTW, It wasn't that last shot that lost the game... it was some poor possessions down the stretch and home court advantage. My 2 cents: They are a much better team this year.2 points

I was talking with a Tongan neighbor last week and asked him if he knew about Joe Kaho, and whether Kaho was a Tongan. My neighbor said that yes, Kaho was Tongan, from a large family in this area. He did say that he thought Kaho was probably "too old" to play now (this is from a guy who played under Lineweaver at Euless Trinity, but before their first state championship-in 2005 I believe), but I don't think a lot of people are aware of the conditioning required of young men and women in the Army and Marines these days. Not that the physical training requirements haven't always been demanding. Kaho certainly looked like someone who is physically capable. I, for one, hope that Kaho, like Sarge, can find a place for himself in Denton, not just for his own sake, but to show others from this area with a South Pacific Island heritage that UNT can be a good place to study and play football. Two things have been holding us back in this regard: a lack of winning, and a perception of being a little too close to home. Overcoming the first will go a long way towards making the second one irrelevant.2 points

Haven't mentioned their name since our game. Damn sure haven't started threads about them. Having zero respect for a school is a far cry from promoting them as a rival.2 points

How is it possible that from my post the only thing you took out was the words "last second"?2 points

How about the missed Dunks/lay ups…make those and this conversation isn't happening. No one play can lose the game, late game situations can stand out more than normal situations but I find it very hard to believe that UNT played perfect the other 39 minutes and change.2 points
-
Actually...I'm more saying that when you're up double-digits with more than 3/4 of the game gone, having an argument over who took what last second shot is kinda burying the lead.2 points
-
I didn't know that the refs would check a possession play because a coach requested it. Both games today lost on shots so late, they had to check the clock. Sometimes it is just not your day.2 points

Man how times have changed. I remember having to wait to open the Thursday morning paper (Dallas Morning News) or Thursday afternoon's Dallas Times Herald to learn who signed with North Texas State the previous day. Occasionally, a few prospects would tell the paper ahead of time but 90% of the signees were not known until the following day. On the actual signing day, I would listen to Max Emfinger on the evening sports radio shows but they barely covered North Texas. Their were no Rivals, Scouts or ESPN reports to review. Of course there was no internet or even personal computers. The coaches had to actually go to the homes or schools to get the kids signitures. (Faxes were not around) There were no Hudl or You tube video. You either had to have seen the kids in person or wait till the fall to determine if they could play. Don't know if this is intrusion today with Twitter and Facebook but it was kind of fun being surprised with the class.1 point

So reading about a recruit coming to UNT in The Dallas Morning News is perfectly legit, but reading about the same recruit coming to UNT on Twitter is creepy? That is not logical. Come join us in 2014. I saved a seat for you.1 point

In that spirit, isn't it also creepy that we pay and spend so much time watching these same young men run around and bump into each other? And isn't it kind of odd and weird to take the time to post and read messages on a college football message board? I like football. I probably should be spending my free time studying the Bible or learning a foreign language, but instead I spend a lot of time watching football, reading about football, following recruiting, etc. And if I can get an insight into a stud recruit's college decision by following his Twitter, I will do that. And since I do that, I know that while Xavier Washington spent his evening at Dave & Busters on a recruiting trip to Houston, Tee Goree spent part of his UNT recruiting trip at a party at The Forums (Apartment 7102). Which school's recruits probably had a better time?1 point

Jamaica's got a bobsled team again and the mean green are beating a good conference team by double digits.1 point

Are we actually a good road team? Other than that second-half debacle at BYU we really haven't played bad in a true road game all year.1 point

Not fair! You can't change up what we're arguing about! You said "betcha Dajon is with the ones from the start of spring ball" then you say you're confident he'll be running with the ones consistently half way through spring. I disagreed with your first statement, but I completely agree with your second one. So what's your argument? That he'll be the first qb given a rep with the ones in spring or that he'll basically have the job locked up midway through spring?1 point

That may or may not describe the student body, but it damn sure doesn't describe the football program. But anything to hate a phantom rival, right?1 point

So they basically want to keep the non P5 schools around to bring in and kick the crap out of in a money game. And the non power 5 schools say ok because it's the only way they can access the money allotted to the power 5? Really stupid of the non power 5 schools. They should all band together and file a class action anti trust suit against the NCAA. Make the P5 call themselves what they are and separate from the NCAA. Put the onus on them for a change. Make them make the hard decision of only having each other to play. No more paying for wins with lesser conference schools. You want to keep your fans happy? Well, you are going to have to share the pie. If not, don't let the door hit you.1 point

Pretty old news, my friend. And he probably wasn't going to be a QB at North Texas.1 point

He never seemed to fully recover. I mentioned this early but according to the stat sheet and comparing it to just over a year ago he has gained about 20 pounds. Something has to be up.1 point

You cannot blame a coach for missing free throws etc. it's a fee throw. You shoot it. Benford cannot hold their hand at the line and say ok now bend your knees and grab them around their waist while they do down. And then remind them to follow through. That is something that needs to be fixed by the players. Benford needs to fix his subbing patterns and figure out something on the offensive end. That is what he needs to be focusing on.1 point

If we had a solid point guard and a post player who could not pick up a foul we might be in business. Today the best point guard was TJ Taylor. If we have to roll him out at the 1 so be it. He was the only one distributing the ball it seemed today. He had 4 of our 5 assists. Jones had zero assists and 4 turnovers. We need to fix this now.1 point
-
Yes we do. And that is not coaching. Maybe they need to spend a whole week just shooting the ball. Get it to fall in the hoop.1 point

Hard to tell because obviously they practice something... And the players know what they are running and the coaching staff is yelling shoot and they do not. It seems like a mix of a bunch of things. Coaching is definitely also involved but stop absolving the players from any blame. They are the ones who make the decision on the court. I think it comes down to the point guard position and we have not had that at all this year. We need a solid point guard something fierce! They are the coach on the court and need to make the calls. I hope all parties can figure something out in practice and get it to click on the court. If Benford is forcing them to swing swing swing drive all game then sure he takes the blame. That cannot be proven at this point so no need to blame him.1 point

Number 5 is the most frustrating part. No clue what is going on there. Cannot really tell what type of offense we are running and no clue why they do not put up the ball more often.1 point
-
No they do not shoot it enough. And maybe learn to read because I have no clue if it is coaches or the players but something is not working on offense. They are not putting the ball up. Calvin Watson would shoot 6 a game from the deep back. We take zero.... Instead we duck our heads and drive it into the lane in hopes of getting fouled and going to the line. Which even when that does happen we miss the free throws. TJ Taylor was really working the ball around well though. Creating shots for himself and others. Everyone needs to be moving off the ball at all times unless they are posting up or positioning on the three line waiting for a in and out.1 point
-
He was just frustrated but we needed the time out. Tulane was on a 7-0 run or maybe it was 9-0 and we needed to settle down. It is very frustrating but I would not say he was mad at the coach. Just the circumstances. Benford signaled timeout once the ball passed the half court line. But yes it's very frustrating to watch :/1 point

I just do not understand why they do not shoot. I could sit 6 feet behind the 3 point line and knock down about 30% of my shots all day. These are scholarship players they should be able to do the same. Chris Davis, George King, Calvin Watson, Tristan Thompson just to name a few. All could do that every game. I have no clue if that is coaching or players being hesitant but that needs to change. Immediately. TJ was the only one putting it up it seemed. We need to shoot off the pass and create our own shot. If that is the coaches call then they are wrong and if it's the players choice they are wrong. I do not care who's fault it is. They need to fix it out now!1 point

Disappointing but not like the BYU or SFA game. Those games no one showed up or hustled. This game there were positives and negatives but of course losing is not fun for anyone involved.1 point
