"There's also a very strong feeling that whatever is done needs to be education-based, and good for student-athletes." That's hilarious...3 points

Well, for me personally this is great news. Love having Coach Canales at UNT...great guy...great coach. That being said...if he wants it....I really hope he gets a HC gig. Love what he did as interim here between Dodge and Mac. This guy can coach, and will make some university a great HC when the right position at the right time is offered.3 points

Yeah, it'll probably be like the beginning of this fall camp. DT, Mcnulty, and Brock rotated with the 1's and 2's in that order and Dajon had the 3's. It'll probably be Mcnulty, Dajon, and Greer rotating with the 1's and 2's, in that order, and Means will have the 3's.2 points

I find something odd about adults following teenage boys on Twitter....I know, I know...recruiting and all that, but it just seems odd to me and maybe a tad creepy. These are teenagers, do we not have anything better to do than discuss some kid's tweet? Not ragging on anyone as I know it is a source of recruiting info...but often, as we have found, it is just some kid being a kid and has no real significant meaning to anyone other than the kid. Oh, well...signing day coming up soon. Let the Tweets flow....2 points

This isn't a case of creating a divide where none existed. This is a case of making a good sized ravine into the Grand Canyon.1 point

MWC commish' not as concerned as some so again...let's be patient and see how all this plays out. (I would think C-USA commish Banowsky would most likely concur with his collegue from the MWC). From the NCAA Convention MWC Commissioner Craig Thompson says: "I think our biggest potential concern is if the scholarship limits would ever change one day, say going from 85 in football to something other than that," Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson told ESPN.com. "For the most part, a lot of this is business as usual. There don't seem to be any red flags. ... There hasn't been a level playing field for decades. People like to say that and there's a perception. But there are different budgets, etcetera. We felt like we have performed nationally and competitively at a pretty good pace and I don't see this changing our world too dramatically." http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/10307993/ncaa-administrators-mull-giving-power-5-conferences-more-autonomy1 point

Not fond of the running/prancing entrance. Quick step is the best. This is what we'll be seeing this August 30th. You know, it looks like the two organizations above seem to be focused on promoting and being in charge of spirit at the football games. Here is how our school of music sees it. "Green Brigade Marching Band The University of North Texas Green Brigade Marching Band enjoys a reputation for high quality musical and visual performances. The ensemble performs at a variety of athletic events throughout the year and is often the featured exhibition group at numerous marching festivals in the state of Texas. In addition to being one of the most visible organizations, open to all students on campus, the band records annually and releases a CD of highlights every two years. An integral component of any music education major's curriculum, the band provides ongoing opportunities for the development of leadership skills. The 300-member Green Brigade is a powerful contributor to the growth of the future band conductor and embodies the spirit and pride of the University of North Texas." So basically the Green Brigade is just a lab. And if they embody the spirit of the school, then God help us. I wonder if the two bands in the utubes above worry about developing future conductors or ever bury their bands in the official university web-sites under "wind ensembles".1 point

So they basically want to keep the non P5 schools around to bring in and kick the crap out of in a money game. And the non power 5 schools say ok because it's the only way they can access the money allotted to the power 5? Really stupid of the non power 5 schools. They should all band together and file a class action anti trust suit against the NCAA. Make the P5 call themselves what they are and separate from the NCAA. Put the onus on them for a change. Make them make the hard decision of only having each other to play. No more paying for wins with lesser conference schools. You want to keep your fans happy? Well, you are going to have to share the pie. If not, don't let the door hit you.1 point

I have a feeling in 20 years….I won't be a college football fan anymore. And that sucks.1 point

He may very well take the reins early on, but when you are set to have a qb competition you give the first reps right out of the gate to the guy with seniority. If Dajon gets the first reps right off the bat, when they first start running plays w/o pads on and when they first start with pads on, then the coaches will basically be declaring Dajon as the starter and there wouldn't be much need for competition.1 point

I thought this was a great idea and ordered one from Michael's today. It was $98. I will post a picture of it when it comes in. Should get it by the 31st.1 point

I choked from laughing...thanks. If so, can we assume that someone else would be returning to the staff as well? SHSU is a pretty great FCS program if Canales wanted to go that direction to build his resume. But even if he wants a HC position, wouldn't he likely be looking at what could happen if the next season or two is great here? I would think if he's already getting looks, he might have a shot at a Go5 school, probably in the MWC, SBC or CUSA after another solid season or two with us. I assume he's probably considered all of these factors if he's getting looks from the UABs and SHSUs now.1 point

Good luck to the kid. Glad he got the offer. Sure hope his ego didn't get the best of him. Bigger faster and stronger in the Big XII than De Soto (and in CUSA). But, glad he has the chance to show someone what he can do. My prediction is that he will never see a down at QB on a consistent basis in the Big XII. But, definitely has the athletic ability to play other roles. But, that's now TCU's job to find out where best to play the kid.1 point

Congrats to Coach C if he gets the HC job. It will be a well-deserved opportunity for him. I figure this will be a win-win for UNT. If Coach C stays, nothing changes and we move on into the offseason. If Coach C goes, it'll bring an opportunity to bring in an OC who has had further experience with a big school program, a new set of eyes to collaborate with player talent in the offseason, and a different kind of intensity to the team. I think Coach Mac is ahead of the game with finding a successor or a plan "B" OC. I'm really interested who is on his radar checklist.1 point

It happens, usually when an alum has been head coach. Luke Fickell comes to mind. And I'm not sure that OC at North Texas now is a lesser position than HC then, considering where the program was when DD left and where it is now. But he burned too many bridges for him ever to think about coming back to North Texas in any capacity, even if RV were gone.1 point

I think it's funny that when somebody comes on here to tell everybody about starting to sell the tickets earlier, and how they'll be contacting every single person who bought a single ticket for a single game last year, they still get blasted and told they aren't doing extra work, and that's after we're all saying, "gee, why don't they do [exactly what they're now starting to do]"? I'm sure there are more things that can be done, some examples of which we've discussed, but wow, now that we're seeing some extra effort, I would hate to discourage that by making a step in the right direction seem unappreciated.1 point

A&M is in need of a good QB? Have you seen their roster? Or their recruiting class?1 point

Punting? PUNTING?!?!?! That's what we have to work on? Punting is the least of my worries. I agree with Harry ... the average is low only because we punted so often on a short field. I'm looking forward to having Macek for three more years. I'm not scared of UTSA ... but I do respect their team. I agree with Harry again that them losing Soza will hurt them a lot.1 point

Defense wins championships, but 4 of the top 5 teams (OU, Baylor, OSU, KSU) will be better next year than they were this year. Lots of underclassmen starting (esp at QB) for most of those teams this year. Strong is going to have to pull a rabbit out of his hat in year 1 and 2 to finish in the top 2 of his own conference. Also, the OC coming from Ok St. is a bit confusing. Yes, he's an oline guy, but OSU hasn't been a pound it out style of offense since Gundy got there. It'll be interesting to see what they run next year.1 point

I live a block off Greenville. We can decorate the float in the front and have a cookout in the back with post parade party to follow. Then you market the Mean Green float around campus and tell all the students to come cheer it on. You get some of those Dallas bowl followers since we will be in their neighborhood again. Marketing PR potential here. GMG1 point

Agreed. The Talons, don't exist except to man/woman the cannon. And even then, it's a last minute scramble at the end of the summer to get enough bodies together and have cannon practice. The only noticeable cheer/spirit event that I see the cheerleaders actually take control of is the "North-Texas" cheer holding up signs in the middle of the field. Here is what UTSA did their first year. A coordination between the band, the cheerleaders AND the announcer.....who, unlike the one the band uses, you could understand. I don't know if they did it again after the first year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnrGZy5E1HE Here (again) is the UTSA pre-game entrance, FANFARE (to both sides of the stadium) and fight song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDhz97kViqA One of the things our cheer staff could do is get out on the field with the Band and hold up signs for the" U-N-T Eagles fight, fight, fight", portion of the fight song.1 point

I'm starting to like the players being recruited and walking on from Denton and nearby counties. A lot of players and their families will feel quite at home in Denton.1 point
