You guys really think anyone should be responsible for a schedule played by 20 YEAR OLD MEN? You want Benny to hold their hands while they play games that should have never been scheduled?15 points

I wish caps like these (and the shirts that the Athletic Department employees wear) were available to the general public. These "inside" clothing items always look better than what the typical fan can buy. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN6 points

Favorite quote in Vito's story: “I have heard about it,” UNT head coach Tony Benford said. “I just don’t know right now.” It's unclear whether the preceding question was, "Coach Benford, what is defense?"6 points

Can we all agree that this is probably the new low point for UNT Basketball? I'm probably alone on this, but I give the blame to RV for this catastrophe. We don't even run into this situation if he doesn't hire a "recruiter" for his first head coaching gig, which he has shown to be woefully unprepared for in every way, which now includes failing at dumbing down the schedule. Fran Fraschilla. Danny Kaspar. Bob Marlin. Scott Cross. All were available to bring here for the job with the most talented team in school history. And we hired Tony Benford, because he could recruit, i.e., BS people to follow him. He must have had one helluva binder in his interview with RV...And even if Benford had been what RV thought he would be as a coach, there is exactly zero doubt that he would've been Tech's coach right now, instead of Tubby Smith. At no other school in America would the AD survive something like this situation with Benford, especially on the heels of the Dodge hire in football and the Stephens hire in womens hoops. RV owns the worst three hires in the school's history in all three revenue sports. Its unreal to me that he keeps his job, much less getting any kind of extension.4 points

Unfortunately, their huge egos (or parents and handlers) lead them to the highest offer. As you so correctly pointed out, most would find playing time and happiness at a mid-major. Marcus Trice realized this early enough to transfer to a program where he could play and excel. I highly doubt that Zach Orr would have had a fraction of his success in the Big 12 or SEC. Goree could excel at a larger school or be just another receiver in a core of WR's in the PAC 10. He has a greater chance for all-conference honors at a mid-major. My nephew's son is a 6-1, 268 lb 8th grade DT. (and good) When I mentioned to him that I wanted him to consider UNT in Denton, my nephew and my sister stated that they wanted to hear from Alabama or similar. Anyway, it is refreshing for kids to sign where they feel they will be happiest and not concern themselves with impressing others.4 points

I'm glad they realized that UTSA was a "strange loss," something that UTSA fans will never grasp.4 points

It's really just payback for the loss UTA would have handed us had we not skipped out on them.4 points

You could see this was going to happen at Southern Miss. When every player that traveled gets in the game EXCEPT Bergland, you knew his fate had been sealed. I just think there is something VERY wrong with this young man. I don't know if it is attitude, smarts, effort, or something else. I hope he gets it figured out soon.... and I hope he gets his degree. Football will be a small part of this man's life in ten years. I really hope he walks away from all of this with his diploma. Good luck BB.3 points

We could and should have probably just kept Eagles and have a side nickname as Mean Green. But that's probably a discussion for another time.3 points

http://cfn.scout.com/2/1365290.html Ranked ahead of Texas, Nebraska, Ole Miss to name a few . 33. North Texas (9-4) 2013 CFN Season Score: 14.52 2013 CFN Preview Preseason Ranking: 109 2012 CFN Season Ranking: 89 Very quietly, Dan McCarney came up with one of the best and most stunning years of anyone in college football, taking his program to Conference USA and leading it to a nine-win campaign and a Heart of Dallas Bowl win over UNLV. There might have been a slew of bad wins, and the 2-3 start was a bit rocky, but the Mean Green beat a ten-win Ball State team along the way and went on a run of five straight wins and closed out taking seven of the last eight. While there was a strange home loss to UTSA to break up the fun, UNT also took down eventual Conference USA champ Rice 28-16. The point differential turned out to be a big, big deal, beating everyone but Ball State by double digits.3 points

sadly...i like this and enjoy it...benford has been over his head since rv gave him the job...sadly...he has no business coaching this team nor at this level...assistant...sure...he was fine at the marquette...but what the hell has he shown that he deserves this job at the salary he is paid??!?!?! i hope cusa rakes our school...it's deserved...benford should have known this rule when scheduling the cupcake shiatt that he did so that he could hopefully make double digit victories and get another damn year...eff i miss jones or any damn coach that can coach...north texas deserves whatever punishment the conference gives us... if this gets the school closer to firing this guy...so be it...the dude can't coach...no evidence that he can...3 points

Danny Kaspar would like to schedule us next year : Kaspar told me today he wants to schedule more mid-major teams in Texas like #UNT in non-conference action. #TXST — Tyler Mayforth (@smdrtyler) January 10, 20143 points

This is honestly the greatest bit of all bits in the history of bits. Next you will tell us this run will continue through the ncaa tournament and we will all be kissing benford's shoes as he climbs the ladder to cut the net when we win the national title.2 points

Do we have any REAL men in the AD anymore??? Christ almighty!2 points

In football, yes. I believe in basketball, the head coach basically sets the schedule. I'm sure some of our better basketball minds could tell you if this is right or wrong (NT03?) EDIT: But, RV is the AD, so is therefore responsible for it in the end.2 points

This looks like a craigslist posting. I'm 100% for a home-home with UH. I would like to see us get a long term series with them, like we did SMU.2 points

I forget, but didn't Benford say he was going to upgrade the schedule when he was hired. I guess NAIA>SWAC.2 points

Why are they "investigating" this now? Couldn't they have done this when the schedule was announced? And what investigating do they have to do? Can't they just go to MeanGreenSports.com and look at the schedule?2 points
