Apex... Apogee... They both mean basically the same thing. A match made in heaven, don't ya think?3 points

They never got around to rating Goree or Rutherford and they won't either, because they didn't commit to a P5 school. But you know how that works. Goree is a 3-star on rivals, 247, and scout though. Yes, the recruiting class is downright filthy at receiver. Adams should be very good and if for some reason receiver doesn't work out I think he has the fluidity to be a very good defensive back. Will be fun to watch all these young guys compete at receive next year.3 points

Make no mistake. This is NOT the opinion of the majority of us. Personally, after attending the Katy/Cedar Hill state title game and watchng film I would put "X" as my #1 target...even above some who are already on board. I have high hopes for every player that is in the 2014 class but Xavier is the player I most want to see in green next year.3 points

Agreed. And of course the best decision for him, his education, and his family is North Texas.3 points

The fact that he is going to an FCS school tells you far more about his talents (or grades, another aspect being overlooked) than any recruiting service.3 points

Every SMU person I've ever met is incredibly arrogant, drove a $60,000 car to school, buys their friends, and are generally the type of people who hang out at Public House or The Garage, made famous for their "statutory grape" drink. They usually end up overeducated and under employed, or working for their daddy/daddy's company. Unless you're referring to their MBA program, SMU is a school for people who couldn't get into TCU or Rice but have the money. Personally, I'd never go to a school with a religious affiliation, anyway. I mean, I knew four people who went to SMU from my high school. All were patented pink-polo wearing, lifted F150 or Corvette driving alcoholics that barely graduated. I have no respect for SMU or anything that hellhole stands for. I'd rather go to TCC. Call me jealous all you like...let's just say, I'm in no way jealous. I could've gone to SMU if I so chose.3 points

apexmom, you are correct in how many of the "big" schools just look at the measurables. I would present to you Lance Dunbar, Patrick Cobbs, Johnny Quinn, Brelan Chancellor, Brandon Booger Kennedy, Andy Brewster, etc... as players that were supposedly not the right size for the big schools that succeeded at North Texas enough to play in the NFL, become Hall of Famers at NT or All-Century Team Members. We excel with those young men.2 points

Just a head's up folks...the date of the parade (March 15th) is at the tail end of the CUSA basketball tournament in El Paso. Not, at all, indicating that the Mean Green might make it that far...yet the slim possibility exists. But, either way, many of the Athletic folks, Cheer Squad members, Alumni staff and folks from all across the campus such as Student Affairs will be working on the tournament stuff and the tournament logistics the weeks and days leading up to the tournament and many will actually be directly involved and traveling to and from the tournament. In no way would this stop this project from taking place, but it is a factor when one is thinking of utilizing some of these resources. Just means Greenjoe will have to do a bit more coordinating and we will need additional volunteers. Shouldn't be a problem. This could turn out to be a really great Mean Green annual event!2 points

Well said Billy. The fact that this thread has gone on for 8 pages speaks to how bad we'd like to see the Apex Predator here in Denton.2 points

No, I said it's funny Bcuz clearly you get your stars from size. X plays in Texas toughest football district and dominates with no problem. He play college ball already. These big schools rather get a bigger guy and try to turn them into the player Xavier already is. I can't wait to see him at the next level and in shape. He plays big. He's also up for Dallas Morning News Defensive player of the year. 2nd year in a row and he will be at channel 21 next week because he made their North Texas team,so I'm sure a decision is coming but looks like he's still busy. So despite what Rivals say oh yeah he's a 4 star player.2 points

Dominated every opponent he faced at camps this past summer.. & was a semper fedelis all American ... U called that a 2 star?!? . Gtfoh2 points

And it worked out for him since he did get another head coaching job at University of Detroit and has been decent there. Maybe Benford should look into doing that. Take a break to go back to being an assistant and think about what didn't work out for him as a head coach (everything?).2 points

Benford'd? Happy Birthday SSP! Sure would be a lovely birthday present if a certain local HS QB switched a commitment to dear ol' UNT.2 points

Again.... we do not need to buy him out. As we did with Simon, we need to re-assign him and promote his next in line. He will either resign or leave on his own when his next coaching opportunity comes along, and move on. We have done this before. Unless there is something weird in his contract we don't know of, then there shouldn't be any reason it can't happen again. Rick2 points

That is fine, and if he waits to long and that happens then it is a decision he will have to live with. I like the early signing period idea, it works well for basketball. If the recruit decides to make that decision, then it takes some pressure off and allows coaches to pursue other recruits. I did see a Fonzale Davis and Tee Goree Tweet back to Carlos Harris about starting meetings and working for next year. Pretty cool, I think they're pretty solid commits.2 points
-
This could be the start of a totally different thread, but I'd really like to see an early signing period. I think that it would make it easier for all involved.2 points

How often have I posted about UH other than to respond to a UNT poster who commented on UH? None. So if you see a UNT comment on coogfans, feel free to respond. And if you don't want UH responses from me, don't post negatively about UH here. And I don't post condescending remarks about UNT. I may argue why UH is better in response to someone's comments why UH doesn't compare, but even when I make points, I am usually complimentary about UNT. My only negative response in this thread would be about Rice in response to someone saying UH didn't beat anyone. In my other posts, I've said UH and UNT had comparable seasons with my bias saying UH wass better just like a UNT fan's bias would say UNT's was better. But some UNT fans would say ours didn't compare. Plus I've already posted multiple times why I'm here. I lived in Denton for 5 years. I live just east of Denton now in Denton's ISD. So I follow UNT football too, and I read your board to keep informed.2 points

Here's the deal. I'm convinced there is enough talent within this team to be able to compete on a high level. I give last years team a reprieve bc you had a post guy with a limited low post game and no outside shooting. Plus the injuries. This years team is loaded with guards who can score. They are lacking a low post scoring threat, but you don't need that to win in college basketball. So where does the blame fall? It ultimately falls with the guy that get paid to do a job. He is paid to teach recruit develop and game plan. If his team fails it's his fault. If his team is failing in the fundamentals it's his job to fix it. The best coaches know how to push the right buttons. They know how to get their players to respond to their coaching. I've found the best are the guys who mix fundamentals in with game strategies. Every player needs refreshing of the fundamentals from time to time. If your players aren't executing its your job to fix it. Take out and teach them what they did wrong. If they can't fix it well you brought them here so it still comes back to you. As the head coach you are responsible for all aspects of your program. You are responsible for all failure and success. There is no reason this team can't figure it out by the end of the season. I hope they do. If we don't see development and progress in the players then it will come back to the coach.2 points

Per RV, Hank, Cooper Jones and just about every other AD personnel I spoke with about it, the new concrete deck in the south endzone where several pre season kick off events occurred prior to Apogee, was mentioned as the new version of the old Deck, so as to be used to entice attendance and serve a purpose,.. that of being able to get a beer while inside the stadium. At some point during planning for Apogee,, that idea was dropped, and instead replaced with beer in the club. That was a mistake IMO. For a second year in a row now, and what seems like ever since our game against U of H, the discussions about beer sales is coming back into discussion by fans and athletic department personnel..RV included. So my point is still valid, the old deck was great on two counts and something like it should be reconsidered if the university is so concerned with widespread beer sales throughout the general stadium population. It's a question that will continue to come up as we see more and more schools do it. Rick2 points

That's about par for the course with our promotions department. After a nine win season and bowl win we'll gladly sell you season tickets if YOU log on to our website and YOU give us your information. This is just the 2014 version of the Mandy McKinley MGC ad from the early 2000's, "If you're not in the Mean Green Club yet it's because you haven't called me or I haven't called you". Gee, ya think? I'm sure we'll see a flood of emails and twitter announcements as soon as they return from holiday break...directed straight at those who already have season tickets and/or are in the MGC.2 points

I have zero problem with universities making a commitment to ensure players earn a degree. Most people think these players get scholarships until they graduate. They don't. Nor does everyone get summer school paid for if they choose to attend. I would like to front load that I am not complaining however, my scholarship disappeared the May after my last year of eligibility and they never paid for Summer school because I had good grades. Maybe it's changed but I don't know. Additionally, if a kid gets hurt. Let him go to school and get his degree without costing the team a scholarship. Or if a guy leaves for whatever reason after his eligibility, let him finish. These schools make a lot of money off them. Student Athletes are there for a degree. I applaud the idea to ensure they get degrees.2 points

Please oh PLEASE can someone recommend what we can do to get the rusty looking part of the pedestrian bridge painted. Each and every day, thousands of people drive under this bridge. Like Apogee, it is a very public, and visual representation of our University and the rust "color" makes it look unfinished and just sort of lacking something. I know that it is cheaper because paint needs to be maintained. But this is OUR school we are talking about here, and there is a certain level of pride involved. Every time I drive under that thing the same thoughts run through my head.... "The rust part should be painted GREEN" and at night I think... "That bridge would be so awesome if it had some GREEN LED's on it" Come on folks... Let's make this happen for next football season. This goes along with the rest of our success and improved image! What are your thoughts?? GO MEAN GREEN!!1 point

I seriously doubt that we pulled the scholarship offer. This was likelier to have been a grayshirt offer and the kid found an FCS school that will offer him a scholarship immediately and probably an opportunity for a lot of playing time early in his career there. Although I hate to ever lose any of our commitments, it sometimes is for the best for all involved. The kid may have pro football asperations and couldn't risk going somewhere that he may be burried on the depth chart for his first couple of seasons. The league has very little interest in players that are not the ideal height, weight, and speed unless they have proven themselves as multi-season starters.1 point

So true... If we lose a horde of MGC members to some epidemic then that list of names will get even smaller. North Texas needs to quit acting like we're the chosen frozen and open up our doors for many, many more new faces; but like an evangelistic mega-church (whose pews are full every Sunday) we will probably have to just go out and get them. That New Years Day UNT Mean Green crowd at the historic Cotton Bowl stadium still excites this alum for what our future could really be, but that kind of thing still has to have a thorough follow-up. So, how's the UNT football season ticket campaign going up in Denton, Dalas, and Tarrant Counties? We should be capitalizing on our bowl win.1 point

I definitely have a limited scope to work with, but my one and only SMU friend got a BLaw degree from there, and his full time job is managing his family's trust. Totally cool guy, and he was born into that but he likes art and cooking and things along those lines. So again, my experience is very limited, but even if somebody comes from that kind of wealth doesn't make them a trust fund douche. The content of one's character and the sum of their actions is a far greater determinant of their value than are the circumstances of their birth.1 point
-
Surprised you even tried to understand the message. As Green Mean said..."there are douches" everywhere. Neither SMU nor TCU have a corner on that market. Some of the comments here regarding both SMU and TCU smack of pure jealousy and/or insecurity on the part of the poster. Can I get an Amen?1 point
