Wait a minute. Last season we were propping Walton up as some NBA lotto pick whose absence was the reason we had no outside threat, and thus lost 20 games. Now he's a chronic underachiever? This is DEFINITELY a bit5 points

No detail was too small for Coach Wooden. One of the first things he taught players was how they should wear their socks and tie their shoelaces. Article: http://espn.go.com/classic/biography/s/Wooden_John.html4 points

We were behind from the start....never lead at all, as I recall. And we fell behind by like 10 points in the first half. Anyway...some subs like TJ (especially) and Voss and Vaughns lead us to a comeback and we tied the game at half-time. What does Benford do? He starts the same starting five that started the game....and none of the guys who lead us back into a tie.4 points

Ya, don't think I'll rely on any analysis from you. The fact that you think it takes 20 year olds over a year to recover from injury tells me everything I need to know.3 points

..."We have to figure that out as a coaching staff. I told each player they have to look in the mirror. We have to figure it out"... So which is it? The players needing to look themselves in the mirror or the coaching staff needing to figure it out? Who's coaching this team? A year and a half into it, for $390,000 a year, one would have thought these questions would be answered by now? Pathetic!!! Rick3 points

It is beginning to look to me that NT is looking at a lot of plan b players which I don't think is a good sign.3 points

I don't think Jones has gotten worse; I think Benford has forced him into a different role that he at this point is not that good at. Jones was the guy that coach Jones gave the ball to in tight situations as a freshman. NT's non starters logged 95 minutes, Tulane's 49 minutes. Benford made 40 substitutions or an average of one a minute based on my count from the play by play. Tulane is a very young team and their best player in this game was a freshman. 43 fouls called.3 points

I have zero problem with universities making a commitment to ensure players earn a degree. Most people think these players get scholarships until they graduate. They don't. Nor does everyone get summer school paid for if they choose to attend. I would like to front load that I am not complaining however, my scholarship disappeared the May after my last year of eligibility and they never paid for Summer school because I had good grades. Maybe it's changed but I don't know. Additionally, if a kid gets hurt. Let him go to school and get his degree without costing the team a scholarship. Or if a guy leaves for whatever reason after his eligibility, let him finish. These schools make a lot of money off them. Student Athletes are there for a degree. I applaud the idea to ensure they get degrees.3 points

I know that was tongue in cheek, but when you run off close to half of your season ticket base, you damn sure aren't going to lure anyone from Denton to watch the games. Hell, I used to routinely make 70 mile round trips to watch UNT basketball. Those days are gone until UNT decides that it cares about basketball again.2 points

Don't laugh but Voss. He was the only big who looks for the ball after setting a pick. The other guys just stay or don't look for the ball.2 points

Canales isn't going anywhere anytime soon. After 4 years of hard work and UNT is finally back on the College Football scene, he would be a fool to leave now. Next year will be just as good or better than this year. My opinion: Dajon Williams will be an incredible QB, and the Canales playbook will now be able to open some chapters that haven't been opened since Groethe and BJ Daniels at USF.2 points

I don't think a guy could ever be a star player under Benford's current system. Too much sub in, sub out.....sub in, sub out. The best players aren't allowed to play enough consistent minutes .....to ever make All Conference. Josh White used to have games where he'd play 38....some times 40 minutes. Tristan would get 35 or more. Those guys would be floundering under TB. To me in the current Benford system....instead of having 5 starters play significant minutes....with some subs coming in to spell them or take over in injury/foul/ or "off game" situations....it's almost like Benford has a team of 12 "Sixth Man" (s).2 points

I want a new Scrappy so bad that I would donate money to the cause. The new one is just lifeless and looks like s snuggie form TV. If we can not get a new one I will learn to love this one. Just a thought.1 point

Please oh PLEASE can someone recommend what we can do to get the rusty looking part of the pedestrian bridge painted. Each and every day, thousands of people drive under this bridge. Like Apogee, it is a very public, and visual representation of our University and the rust "color" makes it look unfinished and just sort of lacking something. I know that it is cheaper because paint needs to be maintained. But this is OUR school we are talking about here, and there is a certain level of pride involved. Every time I drive under that thing the same thoughts run through my head.... "The rust part should be painted GREEN" and at night I think... "That bridge would be so awesome if it had some GREEN LED's on it" Come on folks... Let's make this happen for next football season. This goes along with the rest of our success and improved image! What are your thoughts?? GO MEAN GREEN!!1 point

Yeah well P5 universities hand out degrees like candy on Halloween night to the major sport "student"-athletes. Even to the former athletes coming back to "school" for the degree. Example: Shaq went back and received his doctorate in education. I'd love to read his dissertation, if he even wrote one. This comment obviously needs to be disregarded for the athletes that take education seriously.1 point

Yes that's called help side defense. It was non existent today just like the crowd. UNT has got a bunch of basketball players they don't have a team. It's just a group of guys who don't have much time playing together and now they are expected to perform at a high level and it ain't happening. No cohesiveness. Problems with coaching and players not executing. It's equally apparent. Not sure how'd I attack teams with the group we have.1 point

I could not see the game... thanks UNT athletic department. I am not a huge basketball fan by nature so maybe I am comparing apples and oranges... but.... Am I the only one who thinks that the aTm win feels a bit like Todd Dodges win over Ball state?1 point

until the crowds get bigger again, we should start playing our games in the old gym. Would create a better environment1 point

Another step backward in this game. I will never understand Benford's substitution patterns, it is almost like he wants to personally destroy any rhythm or momentum established by the team. I don't know how many times in this game, that a player made a bad play and Benford called for a substitution whether the player had been in seconds or more. By the time the substitution was actually made, the player may have redeemed them-self several times. Pick your best 5 to 8 players and give them all the time unless the game is out of question. Hint. Colemen is not in that group or is Walton. I would give 30 minutes every game to Aniefiok, Taylor, Williams, Williams, Jones and Voss; until someone demonstrates they are better.1 point

I can longer count UTSA as a guaranteed win anymore. First, taking out Marshall & now they lead Charlotte by 10 at the half https://twitter.com/insideutsajavi/status/4221241391098347521 point

I don't know what's worse -- being down 13 to Tulane or these Tulane fans sitting behind us. I think they collectively have a negative basketball IQ.1 point

If you have yet to meet an SMU alum you like in your life then don't you think there is a much bigger problem here than the SMU person? It seems rather silly to think you've never met a nice SMU person and normal person like the rest of society. Fair enough...I've had run-ins with SMU people my whole life and for the most part they were all great and normal people. Hard workers like the rest of us that worked their ass off and were far from being "loaded" or "trust fund babies". I don't doubt there are SMU douches but NT had their fair of ones too that I ran into. Douches are everywhere.1 point

Only two things I'd like to see Jimmerson improve and he'd become my favorite player. 1)Every play doesn't have to be "the Jimmy show". Sometimes running straight ahead and taking the 3-4 yards is better than dancing in the backfield to try for the home run. 2)Ball security. Show Mac that you can hold on to the football and you're golden.1 point

There were a group of URCM photographers hanging out with us at the Pavilion for Homecoming before heading out to shoot. I knew Brad Holt, so I chatted them up about whether or not URCM was in on Scrappy's redesign and they didn't know what I was talked about. Showed them a picture form Bondfire the night previous and their reaction was akin to this: "Oh hell. That's what we have to shoot? Gross."1 point

New scrappy looks like the old scrappy got hooked on crack and is now starving and homeless. Big head, little body, discarded blanket for clothing. Whoever came up with this redo should have their style gene executed by firing squad.1 point
