Any chance that the football team will be honored at halftime of this game or another one coming up? I seem to remember when we won the NOB in 2002 that they brought Dickey and the team out at center court. Would be a nice thing if they did and gave notice to fans in advance.5 points

In fairness . . . what else is there to say? We usually regurgitate what we've been talking about on this board several times a day.5 points

Minor note that doesn't negate your arguments, but UH has always beat UNT in stadium capacity (exception 2 temp games at BBVA stadium this season) even if it was by a minor amount. Robertson held over 32k while Apogee holds over 30k. You could probably say UH's new stadium significantly beats UNT's and it would be accurate and could be used for your points. But I disagree with your arguments for a different reason. Respect is earned more by attendance than stadium size. Rice and UAB have a huge stadiums, but that doesn't get them respect because their attendance is poor and looks worse in the giant stadiums. As I said in a previous post, selling out a smaller stadium is more important to increasing attendance than increasing stadium capacity. To really increase average attendance consistently, you need to increase season ticket sales. If you want to increase season ticket sales beyond the hardcore who will be there every game to the fan who goes to a couple of games a year, you need that sellout threat for the big games which are going to be the games the occasional attendee goes to. You can't rely on walkups to consistently have a higher attendance. You may get the occasional high attendance name through walkups if you get a name opponent, but you need that season ticket sale to have the high attendance every week.4 points

Hate to break the news to you but the majority of those students are not what you perceive them to be. I saw those same people at NT when I was in school as well. Every school have their douches.4 points

What can we the fans do? 1) Join the MGC. If you are already a member, increase your level. 2) Buy season tickets. Already do? Buy another one or two and invite someone to each game. 3) Talk those people you bring to the games into becoming MGC members and season ticket holders. All this other talk about recruiting, coach retention, favorable scheduling, etc is out of our hands. All of that depends on revenue. Giving is how we can help.4 points

We hammer UTSA as beneath us, but remember this "2 yr Junior College" beat the team this year in what should have been a big game for all of our SRs, not sure we can trash talk much when they came into Apogee and punched the team in the face and faced little resistance until the end.4 points

I don't consider myself "small time" -- I think of myself as a realist. We just plain straight up don't need more seating until we start averaging 25k or more per season. I believe we averaged 20k per game for the first time in perhaps ever. We've only had two games in three years above 25k since Apogee opened. 25k in a 40k stadium isn't even 2/3s full. You would need 27k just to get to the 67% of capacity and we still might not even have people in the new seating and we've only had one game above 27k. UTEP - 11/9/2013 - 26,119 Houston - 9/10/2011 - 28,075 If you're all for spending money with little to show for ROI then why stop with expanding Apogee? Let's build a new basketball mecca that seats 15k even though you could count the number of times on one hand where there were 7k in the Super Pit since 2001.3 points

How fun would this board be otherwise? "Who's gonna start at QB?" "I don't know. Let's wait til Mac puts out a depth chart" "You don't have a favorite?" "Nope, I just wait for the coaches to tell us." "Oh, ok. Wanna talk about helmet stickers?"3 points

Orr is not this out-of-the-world prospect but he's much more polished than the d-backs we have committed. I think Ivery would be more of the return guy in this class, since White may have been asked to do that role. I think Fonzale should be given a chance to try and return at least kickoffs, because he reads his blocks very well and has very good vision. We're just going to have to agree to disagree on White's ability to play qb on a D1 level, regardless of conference. 5'6" is just too short, save for maybe a wildcat play or two. 6'0" qbs are undersized but can get it done. Qbs who are half a foot shorter than guys who are undersized is just too much IMO.3 points

We all have had hopes for better and bigger things at UNT....some of us for over 30 yrs. We were helped along when they build the athletic center..we just needed a stadium....then...ground breaking and we ended up with Apogee...just a great stadium. We have seen a great hire in Dan Mac and the other coaches, tailgating has been great...marketing seems to have improved...now we are in CUSA...attendance has improved and the students are really pulling their weight. After the HOD bowl, the crowd and the events...what a fun time, and perhaps a gaze into the future of what could be. My vision just got bigger...I'm more hopeful...the AD and admin are onboard....momentum..thats what it is. We will soon have a new hotel /convention center and bar/restaurant at Apogee. All we need to do is capitalize on whats happening now....momentum ! So, I see potential...potential for a big stepup in attendance, season tickets, exposure...I see we can hopefully get crowds near capacity at Apogee and then look at expanding with a deck and maybe add'l suites ...say 10000 seats. More FUN for everyone..UNT game as the local EVENT..not to be missed. Hopefully the velocity of growth in the UNT football program will be good for the next several years...we will catch up where we should be....finally. So........has your vision changed since the HOD Bowl?....Do you think Dan Mac or RV's vision has changed....Is your vision Bigger? This post has been promoted to an article2 points

I have two: 1. The play of the DL. I was proud of Big Dick Abbe for adhering to Coach Mac's rules after his arrest, maturing and earning back his starting position. On top of that, he performed better than anyone expected and solidified the middle of the DL all year. Bellazin led the conference in sacks and carried that performance through to the HOD Bowl. Boutwell was Boutwell. Underappreciated and solid all year long. Reminds me of one of my favorites from the NOLA Bowl run, Evan Cardwell only smaller. To perform as he did at 248 lbs. and to never complain says a lot about the young man. Mason, Polk, Brown, etc...were solid at the other DE position. 2. The emergence of our corners, Mr. Jones and Mr. Buyers were excellent all year and allowed Skladany to turn up the heat with multiple blitz packages. Jackson and Whitfield were solid all year in their roles and were mature and didn't sulk when demoted from the starting lineup. What about you?2 points

All this talk about growth, Big XII membership, 90,000 capacity at Apogee is fun. But I'm old, mean, mostly unkind, and 87% certified curmudgeon. We've got ONE winning season under our belts. ONE. It was a glorious season in spite of tripups with Tulane and that community college full of alums who live in vans down by the filthy river. Here's where my mind wanders: 22 seniors gone. How will their successors do? In regards to new player development, will we take measures to protect and keep our outstanding assistant coaches or will they get poached by greener E$PN owned programs? If so, I have fewer worries about the successors to the seniors. McCarney is sixty years old. That gives us some time, but no a lot of it. Do we start grooming someone now or do we wring every drop we can out of McCarney and hope to all things holy that we hire someone just as good when he retires? (And dammit, he WILL retire here!) We need to keep this up. We got two OOC wins in 2013. We need three. SMU, Indiana, Nicholls St. We need to get ALL three of those. 6-2 or better in conference play. Takes us to 9-3 on the regular season. This will be progress, and in my mind, good progress. But even beyond that, 9 needs to be the new 6. We need to expect and achieve a minimum of 9 wins each and every season for the foreseeable future. I really, really, really don't want this year to be a flash in the pan. I want to struggle with PTO and travel budgets every year. I want to see semi-literate, toothless trolls from lesser institutions come on here and bash us because we're doing so well. I want to see LSU, Alabama, and Texas AVOID us for money games. I want all these things before I ever worry about stadium capacity or conference upgrade. We've taken the first step. Let's keep climbing. Let's protect our coaches. Let's develop our players. Let's eat a metric shiton of ribs and drink a cubic acre of cheap American fermented swill. But most importantly, let's keep Tony's balls nice and steamy. Mmmm...Tony's balls. What was I talking about again?2 points

There was a debate before the season as to what needed fixing the most. Some said dbs some said dline. Some said it was up to the dbs to cover better so we could get sacks and get off the field on 3rd downs and others felt the dline needed to get pressure in the qb so the dbs wont have to cover so long. After the season, looks like an improvement with the dbs was the key. The big plays were limited and they got off the field on 3rd and long. Had we had the same DB issues and continued to give up big plays like last year and the start if this year, we probably lose 2 or 3 more games. What was once a weakness became a huge strength and 3 are returning.2 points

If you're talking only supply and demand, you don't want to expand until you get at least a couple of sell outs a year. You start getting sellouts for the big games, season ticket sales grow so fans don't get shut out of the big games. I think ideally you want to wait until most of the stadium is sold out through season tickets, making up for lost sales from the seats not added by increases in ticket prices, donation requirements, and parking/concession increases. It's tough to get consistent sell outs based on walk ups. But there are other considerations for expansion besides supply and demand. For example, UH really needed a new stadium due to the state of the old stadium. And since they were building a new stadium, they increased the size slightly since it's cheaper to do it now rather than later. But they didn't increase too much at one time, even if it's cheaper to do so now, because you don't want to make the immediate sell out impossible. Another reason to expand is to attract other teams to play. Some teams just won't play in a 30k season stadium. Or if they will, they require major concessions like a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 deal. Another reason is for possible conference realignment (another reason for UH's new stadium). This is by far the most speculative reason to expand. Probably not a good reason to expand on its own, especially if you never sell out your stadium. But if combined with other reasons to expand, it could be a tipping point. I don't know how many of these reasons apply to UNT right now. Obviously there's not a need for a whole new stadium so that's out. Supply and demand is not a reason either. So to me it would come down to wanting to attract certain teams or for conference alignment.2 points

Someone brought this up in another thread but tis something that I find very interesting. You can look at Rivals this time of year and see kids with 10+ offers, including some from the Mizzous of the world. Those p5 schools dont wait around for ever for some of their lower rated prospects to commit. This here is where it should greatly benefit UNT and other like schools as the P5 schools are filling up. JT Williams for instance, has a Mizzou offer, who knows if its valid at this point as you would think he would jump all over it compared to his others.2 points

I completely understand the environmentally green building of the bridge and all the environmentally green things that UNT is renowned for. I am very proud of everything our school is doing in that area. I also understand that the GENERAL PUBLIC has NO IDEA that the steel on the bridge is anything but rusty metal. I am just thinking of how we can improve the image to those people and promote our Universities image to them and perhaps to future students. Definitely add some green lights... they could be solar powered. Perhaps if it can't be painted... maybe a green stripe on the main horizontal beams as an accent? This could even be done with a "wrap/decal" material rather than paint (if it would stick)? I also think that the "wing" in Apogee would be stunning at night with some green up lighting. Thanks for the comments about my avatar... My son is still glowing! I have some other pictures... I'll post them in the Media Library.2 points

As consistent as they were all year (sans the GA game), the defense's 2nd half performances added up to be the biggest surprise for me. I think we all expected the defense to carry the team this year, but I don't think any of us expected to have such a dominant 2nd half defense.2 points

I can't disagree with your #1 and #2 at all. The only other thing I might add is the wide receiver play. Darnell Smith really came up big this year, as did Brelan. I loved the different ways Coach Canales got him the ball, and I loved what Brelan did when he got it. Carlos Harris had a nice year as well.2 points

If a bunch of Texas recruits decommit, assuming they are homegrown, isn't that a bad thing for us? They'll go elsewhere like Cal, and a trickle effect through Austin might pull one or two guys we were hopeful for out of our reach.2 points
