I want a new Scrappy so bad that I would donate money to the cause. The new one is just lifeless and looks like s snuggie form TV. If we can not get a new one I will learn to love this one. Just a thought.11 points

It was a joke,UNT90. Take your AM chill pill because you're already getting in your "me against the world" or your "me be opposite of what everyone else posts" mode much too early. GMG!9 points

New scrappy looks like the old scrappy got hooked on crack and is now starving and homeless. Big head, little body, discarded blanket for clothing. Whoever came up with this redo should have their style gene executed by firing squad.8 points

Probably the 6th time I've said this, but the Wing Zone is not in any future expansion plans. At all. Also, the Wing Zone is a major reason as to the noise of the stadium. The entire side of the freeway facing the freeway is built specifically for the Wing Zone and would cost a lot to replace. The next phase of expansion is a second deck on top of the student side. The Wing Zone is the trademark of the stadium. The bridge and logo is all themed after it. The bridge was made specifically so the imposing wing zone would be all you see and built specifically to look imposing from the freeway.6 points

I ran into my 80 year old neighbor for the first time since the Bowl game. One of the first things out of his mouth: "Man, your Mean Green were something else. What. A. Game. Ruth asked me; Why are watching that football game? I told her; This is my buddy up the streets team. You guys did great." How about that? We may have just landed our first 80 year old first time fan. Go Mean Green!6 points

Its typical SMU fandom talk, but they aren't going to get out of the series for at least the first two years, probably the first four years as well.. They'll need the gate that a home game against UNT will provide in 2015, for sure. Beyond that, as I have said before, I doubt that series makes it too far out into the distant future, unless, of course, we go back to sucking. Over the last 25 years, UNT has wanted to SMU anytime, anywhere. SMU has played us when it was painfully obvious that they needed us on their schedule. Think 1989, 1990, and 1992, when they were a glorified i-aa school and they needed a few home games. We gave them that in a 2 for 1. We didn't play again 2006 and 2007, when SMU was desperately hoping to prop up Phil Bennett and get him a winning record (that was hopeless). We cost them a bowl bid in 2006 and gave them their only win in 2007. They agreed to play this "series" with us when UNT looked like death warmed over and they looked like they were ready to rise up to somehing great under June Jones. BUt Dan McCarney has started to do what Dan McCarney has always done--build up a program thru its strength& conditioning regiment and by developing the lines. June Jones, on the other hand, decided to go after the Arizona State job, only to get shafted in the end, and leaving SMU with a coach that might as well be lame-duck with his players, coaches, and fans. And to top it off, they were stupid enough to extend him!! SMU money will probably save the day if they need it to, but while these two teams do play, we need to remind everyone in the DFW area that SMU is a dead horse. Their SWC media in DFW can try all they want to convince us all otherwise, but that program has been on life support for the better part of the last 25 years. Even after its last resuscitation made SMU look like they had something going again, the doctor who brought the patient back to life, by all intents and purposes, appears to believe himself that this patient cannot be brought back to anything close to what its SWC alumni believe it can be. And, to be honest with you, he's correct. That ol' grey mare ain't what she used to be--even from two years ago. I still won't be surprised at all to see SMU give up scholarship football one day in the near future when the AQs eventually breakaway. It will just be too tough for them to swallow what has finally happened to them. No amount of Doak Walker, Don Meredith, Eric Dickerson, or Craig James highlights will ever bring that program back to national prestige and prominence. That barn burned down decades ago--from the cash that was being illegally spent on their payroll.5 points

And we wonder why they think we are obsessed with them... This is, what, the 4th SMU thread on page 1?5 points

Not totally true. You focus only on the next game up. For us that's UT. When the time comes we will talk UTSA. Until then they are a small bugger on the radar screen after you just sneezed on it. Just wipe it off and focus on what's in front of us4 points

thanks for the response, Huff. Like you, I don't see any changes coming to the three scheduled games, HOWEVER, there is still one non-conference game not officially accounted for since we should have 4. I was hoping someone had some insider info on opponent #4. There had been previous chatter on here that Nicholls State would be playing in Apogee. This definitely fits as Nicholls likes to play multiple FBS (formerly Division 1-A) schools. In 2013, they lost to Oregon and Louisiana-Lafayette and beat Western Michigan for a total of three FBS "paycheck games". I also like the four non-conference games to open the year before taking an open date and then plunging into CUSA, but I don't think that will happen in 2014 since we travel to Indiana on October 4th. I'm looking forward to finding out non-conference game #4 and the official CUSA schedule. Right now I'm thinking it looks something like this: Week 1: @ Texas Week 2: SMU Week 3: NICHOLLS STATE Week 4: OPEN Week 5: Week 6: @ Indiana Week 7: Week 8: Week 9: Week 10: Week 11: Week 12: Week 13: Week 14: Week 15: Conference USA Championship Game *bold indicates already announced I started to insert games each week, but it just seemed like it was going to be a lot of guess work until we know officially what CUSA is going to do. Do we simply flip home and away? Because that could cause some issues, as we'll see in just a moment. In addition, does the East have 7 teams or does the West have 7 teams. I've read in some places where we'll have 7 in the West (North Texas, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, La Tech, Southern Miss, UAB), and I've also read where we'll only have 6 (subtract UAB) and the East has 7 (Marshall, FAU, FIU, MUTS, WKU, Old Dominion, UAB). I tend to think that CUSA will go with a 6 team West and a 7 team East, but I could easily be wrong. With a 6 team West, we play 5 division foes and 3 cross-division opponents, but with a 7 team West, we play 6 and 2. If we say we play UAB either way, for simplicity's sake then it could be something like this (if we simply flip home and away from 2013): home: Southern Miss La Tech UAB another East opponent (ODU, perhaps) away: Rice UTSA UTEP MUTS looking at it like this, I get the feeling that we WILL NOT be returning every trip in 2014. I think we will get one of our fellow Texas schools at Apogee again in 2014. I think I read somewhere where UTSA will be hosting us Thanksgiving weekend. I know that some on the board are hoping for a Houston or El Paso trip, but I think that one of these two will be coming back to Denton. For now, we'll say Rice (although you could easily insert UTEP, or maybe even UTSA, if you so desire). I've now used a Plumm-level of words to basically say absolutely nothing, but at least I've kind of typed out some thoughts, and hopefully we can use this to set a prototype schedule and then see how close we actually get when it's announced, hopefully within the next month. and now my first guess: W1: @ Texas W2: SMU W3: Nicholls State W4: @ MUTS W5: OPEN W6: @ Indiana W7: Southern Miss W8: @ UAB W9: La Tech W10: @ UTEP W11: OPEN W12: Rice W13: Old Dominion W14: @ UTSA W15: CUSA Championship4 points

And if they decide to do that then let them. They're just another game in my opinion. As long as we're taking care of our business SMU does not really ever enter my conscience until I see constant threads about them on GMG.4 points

----This past week I have worn a UNT "hoodie" several times (cold) also a green UNT light weight jacket several places and have received a lot of comments from people in various places... [ stores, bank. pharmacy, wife's school ] from them and claiming they watched and enjoyed our bowl game.... I think it gave us a lot of needed attention and I live in West Texas. Having our bowl game on New Years Day I think helped us a lot as well since historically that has been a big bowl watching day.. Never in the past have I had that many comments on what UNT clothing I was wearing. I was on a Christmas Cruise this year in the Caribbean ( a first) and also had several comments on ship when I was wearing a UNT T-shirt.. most were asking if I I lived in Denton.... several were from non-Texans. ---The game was very good for us.. Hope others have seen the same...3 points

Coach Benford showed up at my alma mater's game last night to scout I'm guessing, but I have no clue who he was there to see. It was a two a game and the teams playing didn't have one player above a one star caliber. There was a kid on the opposing team who was 6'6 probably that had maybe 8 Pts & 5 rebounds.. He was awful so if we are recruiting kids that bad I have little hope in Benford3 points

It would be grossly short sighted on their part to drop the series. A rising tide lifts all ships. SMU, TCU and NT need to play one another every year. Make metroplex football THE FOOTBALL in the state.3 points

Amazingly, though you qualified your question to include all of the respnses you received, no one actually answered your specific question you asked...so allow me. 10 years. I think the trajectory of this program, the coaches currently in place and the awakening of this fan base will push us toward that goal. But I too have a few qualifiers. First, we need to abandon the "if you win they will come" mentality because winning alone will not fix the problem. Until we promote this program in a manner that draws in potential fans who are looking for the "window dressing" we won't approach sellouts. When Mark Cuban first took over the Mavs one of the things he did was to make a Mavs game an event. There were blimps that dropped khakis on you, music during every timeout, giveaways if the mavs reached a certain milestone, etc. I know we can't afford to drop khakis but have you ever noticed that the loudest cheers you hear at our basketball games (especially these days) are when everyone wins a free Wendy's frostee? Why? Because it's an added bonus, something to get excited about, other than the on field product. When Silver goes on and on about pageantry (and you all dismiss him) you miss the point. Pageantry makes it feel like an EVENT. The idea that we are going to have to rely on bringing in big names and winning consistently alone is counter-intuitive. It's a long tiresome process and it's just not reasonable...Texas and Nebraska etc are not coming to Denton, they're not.3 points

It's not a rule. It's a law. It's called criminal trespass. When violating that and, and then running from police attempting to detain you, you then commit a separate crime of evading arrest or detention. See: sec. 30.05 Texas Penal Code (Criminal Trespass) and sec. 38.03 Texas Penal Code (Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transport) and sec. 38.04 (Evading Arrest or Detention). So, all the "dude, it's my right to storm the field! F the police!! I can't believe they actually tried to violate my sports fan rights" is complete crap said by people who just want to do what they want to do and don't want any consequences for doing it. And no, this and the last post aren't aimed at you specifically, but aimed at the attitude in this thread in general. Look, it's not the worst thing someone will ever do, but it's still a crime and something that there could be consequences for. People need to realize that so they can make an informed decision.3 points

The Sith were an alien race kind of like the Mayans, if they were ugly humanoid lobsters. Dark Lords of the Sith were the evil Jedi who ruled over the planet and eventually branched out. The Galactic Empire was ruled by a Dark Lord but it was not the Sith Empire. We can beat a bunch of ugly lobster zealots that worship dark power. Sounds about right.3 points

With the advent of Eugene Levy eagle the helmet stickers should be eyebrows. And I don't mean have a lot of little eyebrows all over the helmet, just that the more plays you make the larger that one pair of eyebrow stickers gets. One great ST play = Thin Greta Garbo eyebrows. 14 sack season = Full on Eugene Levy. The stickers should also actually be furry, we could be the trendsetters instead of Oregon!2 points
