I know that I don't post a whole lot on GMG these days, but I read as much as I can and have not missed a home game in years. Even got to take in some away games this year thanks to our new conference. And at work - like many of you - I am 'that Mean Green guy' - the one that constantly defends the program and it's legitimacy. Throughout this season the snickers have slowly turned into respectful comments from coworkers. And I am talking about coworkers that went to NT and are T-Shirt fans for schools like UT and OU. Today I am getting comments such as - NT has arrived. They could not believe the crowd. They could not believe the score. They could not believe that I was not alone. Folks, the sleeping giant woke the heck up yesterday. UNLV was the perfect opponent for us, they were from the Mountain West rather than the MAC or Belt - they are a known school - and we matched up well with them. There is a girl that I work with that graduated around the same time as me. She has always been a UT fan and I have (for 3 years) tried to get her to a game. She walked up to me today and said 'I have to get my son out to a game next year'. This girl would NEVER have said that prior to this bowl win and turnout. I showed her the pics from the game and her mouth just opened wide with disbelief. I imagine there are conversations taking place all over the DFW area today like this one. The giant is waking up - finally.20 points

It is time to step up to the plate. North Texas Athletics needs and wants the support. There is no reason why we cannot rise to the occasion and start showing legitimate financial and attendance support. We need to start taking more pride in our university. The hell with TCU, SMU, ATM, and even UT. North Texas will NEVER even control the region let alone the state without Alumni support. It's time to stand up and take pride. Some on this board may already do a fine job, but if you know or think you can do more, do it. If your buddies are neglecting their Alunni status, tell them. C'mon! GMG10 points

Whatever the attendance was, that was the most North Texas fans assembled for a football game in...ever. GMG8 points

First off congrats on winning...you guys were the better team. I do wish we hadn't fumbled when we were up 7 to 0. Might have been a different game. For people knocking our band, cheerleaders, and attendance please remember our band had to take a bus from Las Vegas to the game. They didn't all make the trip and the Rebel Girls, our national champion dance team was at a competition. We were definitely out numbered and your fans were loud although in Las Vegas the wave would have been discouraged and not allowed. Is that a UNT tradition or something? Overall even though we lost it was a fun experience to play in a New Year's Day bowl in the historic cotton bowl. Enjoy your victory8 points

Had such an awesome day today with family and friends. I love seeing so many of our past players and alumni gather in one location one more time for the Glory Of UNT. So proud of this team, coaches and the seniors who turned this thing around. So cool to see Boomer in action today in the freaking historic Cotton Bowl. Made me very proud to have been a part of that tradition. And I was so proud of the turnout. There were so many of you I wanted to say hey to and didnt get the chance. Wow, were there a lot of folks I've never seen before? And in regards to that I finally realized, around the final 3 minutes of the game the sign I wished I had made. Something along the lines of... "We'll See All Of You In Apogee Next September!" We will enjoy this day for a long time. It's All Green And All Good! Rick This post has been promoted to an article6 points

When it happened, I questioned why it is always a problem. Why not let fans on the field to celebrate with their team? Now I find out the championship hats were taken (read stolen) from the players! Heard a report of seeing at least four of the hats on someone's dashboard. Sad for those players who really wanted to celebrate with the fans and ended up losing out. Always someone to ruin a good thing. Great win!!6 points

I attended every open to the public UNT event this week in Dallas except for the Letterman's Association Reception. I have to say that the school and the athletic department did a great job with these. Shortly after we arrived at the Omni Hotel on Monday afternoon we went down to the Alumni Association Happy Hour at The Owner's Box sports bar. I appreciate Rob McKinney's efforts in handling this event including showing all of the Beyond The Green episodes on the TV's in the room he reserved for this event. We then headed to Babb's Bros BBQ for The Ticket HOD Preview Remote. Great to have Mean Joe, LD and RV on the air. An added bonus was listening to George Dunham and the Bird Dogs play afterwards. The Pep Rally was a lot of fun. The cheerleaders and the Green Brigade put on a good show. We never get up close to see and hear the opposition's coach, band and cheerleaders like this before any other game. The day was topped off by the New Year's Eve party. It was a classy event at a nice location with a great view of downtown from the 48th floor of the Thanksgiving Tower. The music and food were excellent. The location was big enough with additional rooms to go to if you wanted a quieter atmosphere. Nice touch was the University providing a chartered bus to get people to the party and back to the hotel. The North Texas Tailgate in the Embarcadero Building was very well attended. No way anyone there did not get fired up when the band and cheerleaders gave their performance. As we approached game time inside the stadium I thought about the ticket issue and how it might affect attendance. I looked to my right and to my left and all I saw was a sea of 35,000 + fans in green. Somehow some way the tickets were distributed in time. I will choose to look past the ticket problem and instead focus on how great my three days in Dallas were! Thanks again to the University and the Athletic Department for pulling this off!6 points

Am I reading this correctly? Is the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Communications taunting his own fan base in writing on the internet? Dude. @eric_capper or however the hell that twatter world works. You're supposed to be better than that. #asshat Sorry, but the dude's job is communications. That's some sandlot unprofessional bullshit coming from an AD employee whose very job is dealing with the public. In other news, DT was a freaking warrior and a leader yesterday. The entire experience was amazing. My old legs are pretty tired from all that standing, and I lamented that I had to stand on the train the whole way home. My voice is a little hoarse. Totally freaking worth it.6 points

21/30 for 256 yards with two TD's and ZERO ints. All while gutting out a tough injury. Best bowl performance by a Mean Green QB in the history of the program.6 points

Man, how many of us are "that Mean Green guy"?? How many times are you guys introduced as "This guy is the worlds biggest UNT fan!!" I answer with No, No, I'm really not - just 1 of about 36,000 fans yesterday. I want yesterday to make it where we aren't the anomaly as North Texas fans. I want it to be where people know we graduated from North Texas and therefore are EXPECTED to cheer and cheer loud. No longer will I be the crazy guy introduced as "This guy goes to EVERY UNT game!" gasp!!5 points

Fox Sports 1 gives us the nod as one of the most awesome helmets of the postseason. http://msn.foxsports.com/college-football/story/heart-of-dallas-bowl-north-texas-unlv-mean-joe-greene-best-of-the-bowls-010114 Maybe some comments about the game will prompt them to talk more about the play, and not just the helmet? (Which does still deserve a lot of talk.)5 points

Next time you meet a UT fan ask him who the best cornerback in Longhorn history is. Or ask a Bama fan to name an Alabama coach not named Saban or Bryant. Or ask an Aggie fan to name their current O-line starters. Then get your popcorn ready and enjoy the show.4 points

I think it was more the police who didn't know how to act! They seemed to want to create a problem out of something that was no problem at all. These guys probably aren't paid to think...just react. They got to get in some free licks on some kids! Fun times for all, right? But, let's be honest...what did one expect them to do? Just stand back and allow folks to rush the field in celebration? Heck, they may have trashed the Cotton Bowl or something ahead of the Cotton Bowl game....Oh, wait...that's at Jerry. world! Maybe Chief Brown needs to go...you know, can't coach his players to handle these really tough situations properly. It is his fault if his guys don't execute the game plan, right? Who the heck hired the guy in charge of this security detail of off-duty cops? Were they off-duty or is this on-duty work? Did they not go over this and how maybe to handle the situation should it happen? If so, and if these guys did not execute the plan the coach set out, well, coach's fault...fire the coach...err....head cop, Lt., Sgt. Or whomever, right? Because that's always the perfect solution. OK, sarcasm alert! Get it? Just joking around with a bit of irony.4 points

I knew we had a special team after we stomped a mudhole in Idaho, but remember how our defense kept giving up the long ball? Secondary was a major weakness that got fixed; Buyers is a major reason why. What a young star. Can't wait to see him in the future.4 points

Old Scrappy is a gazillion times better than Eugene Levy Scrappy. Today I noticed Eugene Levy Scrappy's head looked disproportionately off on one side. Like they stored his head at the bottom of the equipment trunk and it was smashed out of shape. It had a Johnny Manziel, strawberry shape to it.4 points

It is different than the early 2000 teams. A few long time alums that I spoke with today talked about how this team is faster, stronger, and more importantly deeper than those teams. In the early 2000's the Sun Belt was considered the worse conference by far in college football, hence why we kept losing the bowl games yet dominating the conference. This years team and for the people that truly know football know that depth on this team is farrrrr better than those teams. Our potential weak link in 2014 is D line and everybody should know that. Everybody should also know that there are playing time players returning that will be potential staters. Also, everyone knows or should know that DT was a game manager. Example: he threw for 256 yards and 2TD's and 0 picks and was praised for it. The QB talent on this roster is mind boggling good, particularly for a CUSA team. O line will be coming back in damn near full force and the WR corps for next year is better than average, easily. Almost the entire secondary is coming back and a so is Derek Akunne and former 4 star player and Oregon LB Anthony Wallace to plug in Orr's place. What I like most of all of what we have returning is the RB corps. Jimmerson, Rollins, Pegram, and incoming freshman Willie Ivery. I know this is a long post, but I an just putting proof in the pudding as to why I think thus team is "different" compared to the 2000 teams. There is true D1 depth on both sides of the ball on this team. GMG! Beat Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!4 points

We should just use these for special occasions, though. Keep them special. We need a uniform redesign next year. Get North Texas off the damn helmets. The SOW is here to stay. Our highest publicized games we've had the SOW. No excuses anymore. The helmets today didn't look cheap either (helmet stickers) and our new ones should be to that level of quality, IMO. I do think we need to be wearing green more often, the uniforms just need a redesign, not to look so cheap. I love the black ones but they should be an alternate.4 points

I've been to each game, Houston had the most, this one was close with last year. They must have changed the way they announce, sold/distributed vs actual. Last year they were recognizing groups over the PA, like the boy scouts, in sections where there were no people. Also, it was windy and cold on the hard camera side last year. By the second quarter it was almost empty, but you probably couldn't see that on TV. They also used to do the seats like Texas/OU split at the 50, this year was a traditional set up. I was worried in that first half, honestly it was boring and other than a few chants, the crowd seemed dead. Y'all picked it up in the second half and I'm sure they would love to have UNT back. They just need a better traveling opponent.4 points

Beat Texas in Austin to open the year and we will sell out Apogee for the first time. Otherwise, it'll be 24-26k. Crowd look between 30 and 35k today to me, but that is fine. There were maybe 2k UNLV fans there, and that is being quite generous. Funny watching the kids rush the field and the 65 year old security guard try to no avail to stop it from happening. I was seriously concerned he was going to give himself a heart attack. Did make for good comedy, though.4 points

Warrior today. couldn't ask for for more of him than he gave today on the Cotton Bowl field. I don't think he's HOF but that's an unfair conversation to be having on the day of this win. This should be about nothing but celebrating what he and his teammates accomplished this season.3 points
