  1. Let's see... 1)Our band was on Good Day one morning for SEVERAL segments 2)Mac has been on multiple radio and TV segments over the last few weeks 3)The DRC did a 12 page Bowl Section 4)Our logo was plastered on the side of the most visible building in downtown Dallas (visible from the intersections of I30, I35 and all of the major downtown streets...isn't there someone on here who has ass-whipped us for years about the number of cars passing the intersection of highways?) 5)Driving to and from work (along 75, Woodall and 35S) I see no less than four digital billboards for the bowl game) 6)The Ticket did a live remote focusing on our University and bowl game 7)Oh, by the way, the PRO football team in DFW is in turmoil and the locals care just a little bit about that. So, in short, we have been given more coverage than I have ever seen so quit your bitchin

  2. Really good crowd there last night. Maybe 150-200 strong. George Dunham is a 1st ballot HOF selection for UNT athletics whenever he becomes eligible. Without him, there would have been no Ticket remote last. Night, which means no promos for said remote. Those promos ran all week long on the single best avenue to reach males 24-55 in DFW. I don't know when he is eligible, but he should have been in yesterday, as far as I am concerned. He even pulled double duty by performing with his band last night, The Birddogs. A treasure for this university. Lets put him in the HOF where he belongs.

  4. I'm gonna go ahead and agree with HoustonEagle that during those dark, dark days, there was a strange optimism of righted ships and stocked cupboards. The more the losses piled up, the stronger the optimism got, and the louder the protests of a coaching change grew. Now, we've got this total first class stadium, helmet decals that people (mostly) like, a winning record, a coach who actually knows what the hell he's doing even if he runs the ball more than some would like and has a great media/community presence, a local bowl game, media exposure, increased availability of Mean Green apparel throughout the DFW metroplex, East Side to watch away games, and Oak Street because craft beer outside for dirt cheap kicks ass. But we are pissed off...at what, the past? That we haven't been here for forty consecutive years? Or is it perhaps that the size of the pond is growing, so the size of the fish, relative to the body of water, is changing beyond the formula of Years Pissed Off X Stories of Hayden Fry Told X Number of Mean Green Club Contributions = Validity of Viewpoint? Sometimes I think Denton lives up to the hype of abundant mind altering substance. I'm happy that I live close enough to Denton to go up any weekend I please be it for Taco Lady, Oak Street, home games, JazzFest, freaky people watching at Jupiter House, or weird metal lunch box shopping for the kid at Atomic Candy. I love Denton. I love the progress UNT football has made. I'm going to love going inside the Cotton Bowl for the first time tomorrow. I'm going to love inhaling my Rudy's tacos at the tailgate. I'm going to love screaming NORTH! TEXAS! with several thousand of my UNT cohorts until I'm unable to speak at work on Thursday. I'm pretty stoked about the overall situation right now. So screw me, I guess.

  6. Call the Omni and tell them thank you for the light show they are putting on for the Mean Green. I saw the photo on twitter. They have some future customers no doubt. A thank you goes a long way. Go Mean Green.

  11. Strangely this board has been more of a beating the last few weeks than the days of 2 wins and High School Coaches. Don't' get me wrong the ticket issue was lunacy. Personally if I was super pissed about it I would email Rick V and let him have a piece of my mind. You might just affect change that way. Regardless of your previous mental state, now is the time for some school spirit. Now is the time to ride your unicorns over the rainbow into Fair Park whistling zipity-do-dah out your assholes. Remember after this game all we have left is basketball. Enough said?

  12. I am beginning to wonder if some of you people are ever happy? We had our University letters lit up and plastered on the side of the most visible hotel in Downtown Dallas. I guarantee if you asked UNLV they would gladly switch us. Be thankful for the media attention we have received thus far. Those who are griping about the lack of coverage how many of you picked up Denton paper on Sunday??

  14. Worst coach in program history? Didn't this guy recruit a majority of the key players on this 8-4 team? Was he and staff paid anywhere near what this staff is paid? I don't know where he should rank but he certainly didn't get near the support this current staff has been afforded. This slap at Dodge sure seems personal! 15. That's awesome. About time we started getting a little boost in the area. Hey, if our alumni can spend $300 for a dinner at the Omni's restaurant (if you haven't, you really should, it's worth it), it's nice to finally get a little love back!

  17. My wife just commented it's sad the excitement of going to a bowl game is being cut by all of the ticket problems. After we got six wins, the athletic department knew we were going to a bowl game. Why they made no effort to plan to sell tickets is simply amazing. Why they didn't know the campus post office that has closed for Christmas early since I was in school back in the 70s was going to close again this year defies all logic.

  19. I ordered 2 tickets by phone two weeks ago (12/16). The ticket agent offered a parking pass for $20, which sounded like a good idea to me - remove a variable. The pass is supposedly for Lot 12C by the way, so it is pretty close. I was told it would be mailed to me, so everything should be easy. By last Friday I was getting concerned that they had not arrived (some neighbors were reporting mail tampering), so I called back and was told there was a delay in mailing out the tickets (apparently they were not mailed until 12/24), and that I should not worry about it unless I did not get them by Saturday. Now that it's Monday and my tickets have not arrived, I called back and was told that the North Texas mail office shut down without telling the ticket office and that I need to either pick them up at the Omni Hotel in Dallas or at the Will Call (Gate J). Apparently I could have chosen to have them sent by FedEx for $10, but I do not remember being told that a few weeks ago. Getting to downtown tonight or tomorrow to pick them up would be difficult for me. I would rather have my tickets now, but the will call would be fine if not for my parking pass. I asked if I could just go to a cash lot and get refunded the cost of the parking pass, but they said the only thing I could do is go out to the street and sell it... I'm quite disappointed in the ticket office - why did they not at least tell me they would not be mailing it out after all? Why even give me the option to pick up my parking pass after I am already there? I suppose that should teach me not to pay for parking in advance...

  20. That's what Coleman told me as well. I wasn't busy this afternoon and drove to the Omni and got my tickets. And a tshirt. I got home about 4:30 and there was a message from Coleman asking if i got the tickets and if not they would be in will call. That makes me believe they have no idea if tickets were sent or how. I have mine so while quite irritating, the problem is solved for me. But this was a total screw up by the athletic department. Not FedEx, not UPS and not the Post Office. There is another post office in Denton that WAS open every day except Christmas! No, the athletic department totaled screwed the pooch on this one.

  22. No. It all comes down to pecking order. The SEC is the best conference in America hands down. A win by our conference's champion over an SEC team, even if it's not Bama or LSU, looks good on all of us. Especially since we owned Rice on Halloween night.
    2 points
  23. We lost to UTSA and Tulane. That's our fault and not Rice's. They took care of business and we didn't in the conference race. Go Rice!
    2 points
  24. I'm not going to -1 you, but I don't understand rooting against Rice in this. All a Rice win does is improve the perception of CUSA and of us because we will have beaten an 11 win team. A Rice loss makes our conference and us by extension look like a joke because our champion loses to a middle of the pack SEC team. I would love to see UNT in this game, but we didn't win the conference championship and that wasn't Rice's fault. Go Rice!

  26. On my commute to work I pass Texas Motor Speedway every day. This morning on their big jumbotron along the access road they had three UNT slides. One was a congratulations to the university, another was the logo, and the third was information on our bowl appearance. Pretty cool!

  27. Then how do you explain Danny Meager coming from an all rushing-handoff world to record setting passing QB, or Casey Fitzgerald from no-name walk-on to record setting wide reciever, or Lance Dunbar, from Katrina transplant who played on an 0-10 high school team to college phenom and the NFL? 29. 63 Degrees On New Years Day! (per WBAP a minute ago) Yes, I'm a broken record on this thought but 1 winning season in a decade in this market will not get this DFW sports media's attention. Hate to say it, but we still have to earn it with more sustained success. Even this morning the WBAP sports guy read a list of upcoming bowls leaving our's off. Our fans can change that if they will by showing up en mass but I would never bet a pay check on that being a sure thing. We all want everyone to feel about this program as we do but they will not until we beat a few big schools but more important............win, win, win! At times we do it backwards at UNT; that is, we seem to build our roof first before we actually pour a solid foundation which includes a massive number of season ticket sales, better customer service skills shown to the longtime regulars along with a real promotions program; that is, the kind whereas we see every Game Day the Apogee Stadium parking lot over-flowing with school buses filled with kids who would sit in the Wing Zone and become our own unique knothole gang. Get em' while their young? This is Dallas Cowboys Country....every month of the year. If Jerry Jones farts, the entire DFW sports media are there to cover it. UNT, SMU and (yes) TCU are down the line with this media. Worst thing that could happen to SMU and even TCU is if our sleeping giant actually woke up because with our numbers that awakening would be most visible here and well beyond the North Texas Metroplex. Thus another reason we have to have a string of winning seasons and get a marketing program in place other-wise we will continue to be ignored. SMU's Mustang Mania promotions didn't receive attention its first year based on wins, but on their dramatic attendance rise when they used the Cotton Bowl stadium as their home stadium. Heck, even my dad & I attended an SMU/UH game among 54,000 fans in the Cotton Bow in 1978. Fact is, someone at SMU had to get out among the masses & work hard to get those kind of numbers in that stadium for an SMU football game but the key phrase is....."someone had to get out among the masses." Yes, in a perfect world, 93,000 would show up for our HOD Bowl game tomorrow, but in the real world where we've still only had our first winning season in quite a while and a not so large regular season tickets base to have started our bowl game ticket sales with, it's anybody's guess as to how many will show tomorrow. All in all, it's in the hands of a fan base who we all hope feel the same as we all do about the Mean Green.

  30. Wait...they called to ask you if you picked up your tickets...from them? Seriously, this just seems like a huge lack of organization. Let's see: 1) Some people who used FedEx didn't get their tickets. 2) Some people who used FedEx got their tickets. 3) Some people who didn't use FedEx didn't get their tickets. 4) Some people who didn't use FedEx got their tickets. This doesn't seem like basic miscommunication or like one specific option turned out to not work for whatever reason. If we move back soon and they want to pay for a ticket office manager, I'll do it cheap as long as the hours aren't excessive enough to prevent me from still working from home on my other stuff. I'm totally serious, too. UNT could lose a lot of money if these "hiccups" continue so if they want somebody to be annoyingly over-organized to avoid recurrences...well, I'm annoyingly over-organized. Not that any of this matters since this is a message board, but hey, it's a thought.

  31. BYU lost tonight to Pepperdine and is now 8-7, and just 1-5 since they played us. I promise this is the last time I bump this thread and I'll stop beating this dead horse. Just don't believe the junk we were hearing that this was a top 20 team that had us down by 40 and that they were beating us that bad because they are just that good. Or... there is this rumor going around. That was a top 20 team that beat us in Provo. However, whenever they've been going on the road the opposing coaches have asked their arena security to confiscate any and all lunch pails before allowing BYU to enter the visiting team locker room. This has effectively incapacitated the Stormin Mormons; hence their losing streak.

  35. I think you're on the right path, man. The Mrs. Franchise is a family member in a long line of A&M grads and I'm attempting to be the first in my lineage to graduate from a four year college, so naturally the Mrs. and I have talked a bit about our children (7 y/o an 2 y/o right now) and their educations. Of course, she's bent on them going to A&M, although I'm more thinking along your lines, Jesse. While I'd love to see both of my children go to UNT like the old man, I understand they may have completely different passions and career goals than I do. I feel more that as long as they talk it out with both of us parents and make decisions that we all believe will be of the best benefit for each of them, respectively, then they're going to do well. Shoot, college may not even be what they need. I mean, they could get an opportunity at a major company right out of high school for all I know. Having said that, they're both left-handed and pretty active so I could totally see my daughter golfing on scholarship somewhere with a great women's golf program (*cough*GoMeanGreen*cough*) and my son as a speedy left fielder on scholarship at a powerhouse baseball school (*cough*UNTin17years*cough*) but maybe that's just me. *ishouldreallydosomethingaboutthatcough*

  40. No matter what the attendance is, just don't let the local media get away with putting us down for not supporting our team enough with attendance smack. Their beloved DFW Private Schools wouldn't get 25k against freaking UNLV on New Years Morning in Fair Park... If an announced crowd of over 35k is what we get, I would feel like this was a huge success. And if we somehow got an actual Butts-in-Seats of over 35k, I will feel so ecstatic about us finally making a dent with the DFW fan.
