I figure he'll sit on the UNLV side first and try to play it cool. Probably take his shades and peep a few beefers on the sly while the teams get going. Once he starts seeing us bring the wood and starts to feel our bad boy vibe, he'll ask to share my crown flask or maybe some road G&Ts I'll make earlier that day with my trunk liquor. After that, it's time to take things full throttle, so I'll pull out the habanero chile lime oysters that will have been stashed in the pullout crotch section of my jeans and start warming them up on a foreman we sneak in with a generator. Once he has a taste of those and the house made waffle chips we made the night before, he'll be ready to eat Quoner's Quicked Up Oyster Nachos Bell Grande off a flipflop. From there, we'll probably just throw back all the food and drinks, then be ready to hit that Hindu buffett near Fair Park and show them how to keep the Christ in the week after Christmas. We're talking Seger on a boom box (Night Moves as the opener), a few hot babes and dancers we get to show up and party and the works. Really show those guys how America parties in the New Year. I figure we'll have plenty of safe houses nearby if things get carnal and might even make a few friends. I'm a pretty run of the mill white guy, but I'm known to show mad respect to my soul brothas from another motha. Kinda cool - you guys in or do you plan to just sort of go all Doug Carlson on this one?7 points

Tee Goree’s football skills are so magical that his Rivals page is now showing a scholarship offer from Hogwarts. While it is becoming more and more apparent that Goree’s father is Zeus, let’s first examine the half of him that is human. Goree lost a fumble last night and on another play while returning a punt, he dove at a dying ball Leon Lett-style that was already surrounded by three members of the La Grange coverage team. Let’s also remember that Goree is playing against Class 3A competition and it will be a big jump up to Conference USA. And if we are being really picky, Goree’s listed height of 6-3 might be fudging just a little. Now that I got that out of the way, I am so freaking excited that Goree is committed to North Texas. He can be a special, special player in Denton. His upside is so much higher than Johnny Quinn, George Marshall, Casey Fitzgerald or any other receiver we’ve had here in as long as I can remember. I saw someone on Twitter saying that he is an SEC receiver. He is. Goree caught every catchable pass last night and his speed allowed him to get behind the defense with ease on his routes. The pass to him on the 45-yard touchdown seemed to be overthrown but Goree hit his boosters like the cars in those Fast & Furious movies and pulled it in. The most impressive aspect of his game was his runs after the catch. He NEVER got tackled by the first guy. His change of direction is absolutely elite. Twice during the game he gave a defensive back a juke that made the defender fall down. Now it was just one game and the cornerback primarily matched up against Goree was a FRESHMAN (A freshman good enough to play both ways on a state semifinalist who also scored on a 64-yard burst playing running back and was La Grange’s leading receiver in the game). But still a freshman. Goree is the type of player we have to sign to become a Top 25 program. I believe he will develop into the kind of player opposing coaches will have to gameplan around. I was impressed with his intangibles, too. He was a captain and he was at the front of the pack when the team ran on the field before the game. He is a leader and has a little Marcus Trice in him as he would motion to the crowd to get loud at key moments in the game. My bet is that Goree is starting for us next year by the time conference play begins. Our other commit from Carthage, wide receiver O’Keeron Rutherford, is every bit his listed size of 6-5. He is also SKINNY. He looks like Hasheem Thabeet in shoulder pads. He is fast enough and has solid hands, doing most of his damage against La Grange on slants across the middle. He wasn’t afraid of contact, but he didn’t any break tackles until his touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter when he dragged a defender with him into the end zone. A lot of kids that tall are also a little clumsy, but Rutherford has smoothness to his movements. He has been a very productive player at the 3A level, averaging more than a touchdown reception a game. And you have to wonder how much more he could have produced if he didn’t have to play in the shadow of Goree. Rutherford is a very strong candidate to redshirt. Put him on a 5,000 calorie a day diet and sic Frank Wintrich on him. I could see him developing into a unique offensive weapon, and not just as a red zone target. Another prospect from Carthage that we are rumored to be interested in is running back Tevin Pipkin. After watching Pipkin, who will go over 2,000 yards rushing on the season next week, I am bummed that we don’t have a scholarship left to offer him (Call it the Kenny Buyers tax: which I will happily pay). I still prefer Willie Ivery, but Pipken has great acceleration. His style reminded me of Lance Dunbar. He is not big. He can be tackled, but if you give him any daylight he will take it to the house. He is an FBS-level talent and if we could somehow convince him to come on board as a preferred walkon that would be a grand slam. I wouldn’t mind if we tried to grayshirt him either or placed him at a junior college. Let’s examine the Carthage quarterback who is committed to UTSA. Blake Bogenschutz has thrown for 55 touchdowns and three interceptions this season. He is listed at 6-0, but I would bet he is closer to 5-10. I assumed he was the JV quarterback while watching them warm up. He is VERY mobile, throws a good deep ball and has excellent velocity and a tight spiral on his short to intermediate throws. He will have to improve his touch in college although his completion percentage is excellent. Early in the second half, Bogenshutz went to Rutherford on short-yardage near the end zone on consecutive plays. He led Rutherford too much on both of them instead of just throwing it high and letting the receiver exploit his significant height advantage and win a jump ball. In a best-case scenario, Bogenshutz is the next Eric Soza. Worst case he is Chase Baine. I trust our staff’s talent evaluators and understand why we never offered him, but Bogenshutz is the kind of quarterback I like to watch play. He has a strong arm, can scramble and make plays with his legs, was VERY productive in high school and has won a lot of games. Playing with elite skill position players certainly makes Bogenshutz look a little better than he probably is, but I can see why Larry Coker likes him and am maybe a little jealous that he is not coming to UNT.5 points

You know, some come on this forum just to talk about UNT sports, get information, and throw out their own hot air opinions (that would be me). Others come on to this forum and actual contribute valuable information about this program and help promote this program. Young BillySee58 is definitely in the later category. A very fine addition to the Mean Green Nation.4 points

Can't blame a guy for making moves where it is clear he is trying to move up the food chain with each step. UTA then UNLV then UNT. Clearly moving up each step. Thankfully, as the closet Mean Green fans from San Antone mentioned a few weeks back, GMG puts UNT in the same neighborhood as Harvard/MIT, so his options will be limited from here forward.3 points

In 2002 I had a chance to fly with the team to play ULL. We met in Denton, bused to Alliance, only to have our Global airline charter not start. While Global sent for a backup plane,we bused back to Denton, killed some time, returned to Alliance and flew on to Lafayette without incident. The next afternoon we won 27-0,and we bused to the nearly deserted Lafayette airport arriving about 9:00 pm only to discover that this plane also would not start . Global again had another backup plane flown in, sack meals were passed to the players, and about midnight we prepared for departure. About that time a male flight attendant ran up the aisle screaming "he stuck his finger up my ass, he stuck his finger up my ass." Seems like Cody Spencer had taken the banana from his sack meal and stuck it up the ass of the male flight attendant who had picked the wrong time and aisle to bend over. The crew refused to fly until Cody was arrested by local police. We felt that was somewhat of a hollow threat, as they had not yet demonstrated to us that the plane would even start, let alone fly.At any rate, after about an hour of Rick Villarreal best efforts, the compromise was that Cody was booted off the plane, no police were called, and we lifted off about 2:00 am.I don't know if you guys remember Darrell Dickey's sideline assistant trainer known as "Dr. Pepper boy", but I think he was sent with Cody with hotel and rental car money. I have no idea how they got back from the airport to town, as everything was pretty zipped up at that time in the morning.I briefly spoke to Cody at the 100 year event at Apogee and he told me he didn't have a clue why he impaled the attendant, but that it seemed like the thing to do at the time.I have been lucky enough to have flown with the football team 3 times, and always come home with a story to tell.3 points

Hi All, Looking forward to the UNT beatdown of UNLV to start the New Year off right? I received a tip to call the travel guy that does the MGC, team parents, etc trips during the season. I contacted him about his rates at the Team Hotel = Omni Downtown Dallas. He has a limited block of rooms (might get more?) at a really great rate if you're thinking of staying in Dallas for New Years Eve. I had an earlier reservation there of $269-289 but his rate for the same room type is only $175! This will be the team hotel too. The MGC party site for NYE is still to be determined as they are having trouble finding a venue at this late date. It could be at the convention center which is adjacent to this hotel? Also, the Dart rail is walking distance for those riding it to the game. If interested in this hotel call David Fast at (817)-907-4229 or email him at David@FastTravelTimes.com GMG! ......................................................................... email info from him: ~david g fast~ Fast Travel Times, LLC 817.907.4229 Sent from my iPad > On Dec 11, 2013, at 9:25 PM, David Fast <david@fasttraveltimes.com> wrote: > > Fast Travel Times, LLC, a corporate sponsor for North Texas Athletics, > has secured a discounted rate of $175.00 at the Omni Hotel Dallas for > 31-December-2013. By calling David Fast at 817-907-4229 for all your travel needs, you'll be staying with the team for each away game. You can also use Fast Travel Times for all your travel needs, including bowl games, Conference USA Championships and NCAA championships as well as personal or family vacations. A little birdie (named Nick Saban) told me, and everyone else,"I never considered leaving to be the coach at Texas". Translation: "I already coach in the best conference in America, have a stacked roster and would be a fool to leave. Thank you Texas for letting me pimp you while I drove up the price of my contract extension"2 points

They should clean up the whole area over there, and relocate sack N save, McDonald's, the gas station, and MAYBE Ihop too. So we can have a really good entrance to the university with more green spaces and trees, and maybe an embodied huge class ring just in front of the Alumni building. Go Mean Green2 points

Honestly there was a tall white kid there who was probably a JUCO guy. We came from Honey Grove. Our qb is Jeremy Patt but he is being recruited as a DB or WR. Younger brother of RIce DE Zak Patt. Also the QB from Bonham, Dra Smith, was also there. It was a great experience.2 points

A lot of guarded statements, but understandable at this point. Seems more concerned about burning bridges at UNLV than puffing up his new employer. He seems very well qualified and with a high approval rating. I frankly would like to see a little more enthusiasm about NT than he has displayed. Going to work somewhere just because it is closer to family is not something that most employers would be happy with.2 points

That is awesome - we will be 3-0 in the Black Uni's after Jan 1st For next year, maybe we can raise money to get the team flat-black helmets with a green SOW to compliment the home Black Uni's. I think a Green SOW would be more visible - plus the flat-black helmets are pretty cool.2 points

It sounds like he's got a great head on his shoulders. Only thing that still bothers me is his avoidance of saying wether anything else attracted him to UNT beyond being near his family. Would never really hold it against him though. Improving the IT infrastructure of the campus is long overdue. And before ya'll start touting the Talon supercomputer, I hear you. There just needs to be better, broader IT systems in place campus wide. ---- And so he'll remain in red for the bowl game huh...1 point

Make no mistake--it is too much. It's ridiculous. But if it is coming out of the pockets of your donors, and the program stays relatively clean--who gives a rip? I certainly don't. If a donor to the music department said "I want to donate 12 milllllllion dollars yearly to hire the best faculty and staff for the music department, because I want the results to be the best anywhere", I'm not going to tell him "That's ridiculous. We don't need that much."1 point

I saw the price as a bargain since we don't have to travel nor get a hotel room. A trip to Memphis would've been much more expensive than the $150 i paid.1 point

It's a very good video that should make a connection to our fans. If you want it to go viral, share it. Look at the list of top shared videos, the Viral Video Chart and you'll see all are long than :30. The top shared video right now is about 5 minutes. The second is a little over two. Both of those use emotion as their hook. This video is going to have a connection to NT football fans specifically and some connection to all football fans. Silly cat videos and the like don't go viral as often as those that use emotion. I can't say this enough - everyone "like" it on YouTube and then share it on Facebook, links on Twitter, Google+ and even send links on Snap Chat. "Shares" and "likes" are what will help promote the video. And there's all kinds of information that a well promoted video will increase sales. This is a second channel, beyond commercials, that leads to as many and sometimes more direct sales than TV commercials do. And "viral" doesn't mean half a million shares world wide. Viral includes saturating your target market. And if you want a laugh while your on the Viral Video chart, check out the YouTube Rewind: What does 2013 Say. Imagine Katy Perry and Miley talking to the Fox.1 point

Cotton Bowl - $140, Fiesta Bowl $95 -$335, Holiday Bowl $80-$120, If it were the Aggies, Bears, Cowboys or Techsters, they'd be fighting to pay $75 for a ticket. Friend of mine dropped $190 a piece for tickets to the Fiesta Bowl. That is on top of transportation and lodging. AND they are playing UCF. They will have no trouble purchasing thier alotment and their fan base is 10 times smaller than UNT's and they are not playing in thier backyard. GMG!1 point

And, so here is what I'd like to see in the future: A Super Bowl of the 5 Monopoly's champion versus the 6 Others champion. They said the AFL would never beat or compete with the NFL. Okay. Let's have the presidents, athletic directors, and coach of the 6 Other conference get the nuts to tell the 5 Monopoly, "Screw you...we'll play you once a year - your champion versus ours."1 point

This is where I am with it as well. The facts are ugly, but must be faced: NCAA will disappear. Big Ten commish was on last weekend scolding smaller college for hanging on, basically saying they (the 5 Monopoly Conferences) would be forced to separate from the NCAA and do their own thing. It's pathetic. It's also part of the reason why I've said before that they should just drop the charade and make those conferences a minor league to the NFL. Have the NFL draft for the rights to players coming out of high school, like in baseball. NFL teams could trade rights depending on how a kid's college career is going. They could give them bonus money to pay for school expenses. That would get around the ugliness of schools paying the players. Also, it would give some financial stability to a group of athletes who really tear their body up at a young age so that colleges (and their coaches) and networks and advetisers can make millions, now billions, off of them. Baseball players coming out of high school can get a pretty good chuck of cash, even if they are drafted in late rounds and only play a couple of seasons in the minors. It's an ugly thing going on. And, at the heart of it is money. It is, of course, the height of hypocrisy that so many conferences can participate in March Madness for basketball - and every other amatuer college sport - but football is closed off. But, no one will do anything about it. For our part, I simply hope those schools not in the 5 Monopolies will simply stop scheduling them. Next year will be the 30th anniversary of Oklahoma and Georgia kicking this whole thing off by winning their antitrust lawsuit agianst the NCAA over television rights. In the 30 years hence, it's transitioned from the NCAA picking the games to be televised to: (1) the CFA, to (2) Notre Dame getting their own TV deal, to (3) Conferences negotiating their own television contracts, to (4) the Bowl Alliance, to (5) the BCS, to (6) the Big Ten starting a network, to (7) Texas starting a network...and, (8) it will end within the next 18 to 24 months with the 5 Monopolies leaving the NCAA. We were mired in I-AA during (1) - (4), stuck with bad facilities and lack of funds/interest during most of (5) and (6). By (7), we had our new stadium up. But, we will already be too late to participate in (8). It doesn't matter to me. You look at the circus going on between Texas and Alabama over a football coach, the circus of the USC and Miami player pay schemes, and Penn State ignoring a child molesting assistant...and, it kind of makes me feel decent about not being there.1 point

If they don't pan out then it was a wasted scholarship! Is there a better way to put that? Now, please post for me when I put down a 17 year old child. (minus the exaggeration). Over the past 2 years, men's basketball has released 2-3 kids. Maybe because they didn't think they could help the program. Larry Brown (SMU) dismissed half of the kids he inherited. Welcome to college athletics and sports message boards. I'm not into the star system like many but don't these sites (Rivals and others) assess stars on kids as early as their soph. year? That would make them even younger children. Aren't they saying that the no stars and 2 stars aren't as good? Haven't I read on here, from those in the know, that the bigger programs shy away from these kids. Or, only recruit 3-5 stars prospects? Green92, criticism of these so called children start long before I pay to see them.1 point
