  1. Just saw them announce it during the UL vs. Cincy game. He got 81% of the votes!

  6. Thanks Mark, as always, for the work you put into putting these events together. Disregarding whatever stupid internet sports arguments we have, you are a class act and a great asset for the UNT family. I'll be the first to commit as a player (or at least someone who can stand around and take up space). I'll look for others who may be interested.

  7. Why does time advance? Why do players get old? Why didn't Curt Flood just jump into traffic? Why must we be able to measure declines and player value better than ever before? What is WAR? Where is Captain Sorensen? Why are prospects so uncertain? Why do guys who can't win with one roster fit better with well constructed teams? What is Moneyball? Can I have a Moneyball? Who does Billy Beane think he is? What does Peter Gammons know? What in the heck is a Baseball Prospectus? Why should I care? Who am I? Is it cold? Global Warming, amirite? When did gum get so soft? Will having a competitive team with no guarantees and flexibility be worth it if we never win? Do I have a corresponding idea for a move? No, but I hate everything I see.

  8. What specific turnover are you talking about from previous seasons? You'd be ok with giving Josh 125 million? Do you initially overpay Napoli like Boston was going to do last year when he can't catch anymore and you're putting your hopes on Mitch? Yes it all turned out well for Boston but after his super hot start he came back to reality and was what he's been most of his career. Do you want Michael Young back? I loved his service here but there wasn't anymore room for him anymore and the only way Wash couldn't play him anymore was for JD to get rid of him. I'm just really curious as to why you think the turnover has been for the worse. Remember we still have one of the best pitching staffs in the league. Let's not forget the guy who should be the face of the franchise for the next decade plus in Elvis. How about the greatness of Belts? Still a top 5 minor league system. Still a butt load of money in a top 4 media market. Oh and I can't believe I forgot to mention the Prince Fielder acquisition. And we haven't even reached winter meetings yet. JD is far from done. I'm sorry but it's a hell of a time to be a Rangers fan right now.

  11. I'm the exact opposite--I hope he tells this same story everyday for the rest of his career here. I want him to remind everyone of just how little this place cared about football and athletics before he got here. We played in the worst stadium in FBS football. We played in the worst conference in FBS football. We kept one of the worst FBS coaches of all time around here for a 4th year, even though he had managed to win all of 5 games, 3 of which were against one team (WKU), who happened to be the only team in FBS that was worse than us--all because they refused to buy him out an extra $275k. I hope we never forget where we came from...

  14. I cannot, at this time, imagine what the complaints will be. However, after having it out over here (http://www.occupy.com/article/exposed-university-president-lied-students-about-fracking-school-property) for a little while, I am sure that there will be students belly-aching about how this is a bad thing. They'll say, "Why are we spending money on this instead of the world's biggest and best music building ever?" And someone will point out that UNT isn't paying for this project, the university is just on the lease. Then, because they can't be wrong, they'll try to argue that UNT should force the city to give us the money for this project to use for a new art building. Sorry, I just realized that this is actually a ramble and not a contribution to the thread. I guess I'm a little jaded and saddened when I witness how illogical and needlessly pissy some of the people I went/go to school with can be. Maybe they can do something with the convention center to appease the hippies!

  15. Do people on this board truly believe playing against Michigan would be in the best interest of the UNT football team?? We need wins and bowl wins. That is what begins turning recruits heads. Not saying we went to a bowl and played Michigan tough but they pulled away late. Just my opinion but I am curious as to the people who chose Michigan. They may not be the top 15 team they usually are but I guarantee they are MUCH better than just about any team we have played with exception to Georgia. I will probably get blasted for this post but oh well. Fire away.

  16. Michigan. That would be a huge David vs. Goliath matchup, but Michigan is not nearly the Goliath this year that perception makes them out to be. I think Iowa is just as tough as Michigan for the most part, but whatever we would do against Iowa would be diminished next to what we would do against Michigan.

  25. All very impressive, but Tanner Leland's is a pretty amazing accomplishment even among this group. Tough major at a tough school while balanced with football and still over a 3.5.

  26. I have seen some chatter out of the Middle Tennessee folks that their beat reporter is reporting that ESPN has been working to put together a Boise St/Notre Dame matchup in the Hawaii bowl. This could be what RV was referring to about a team trying to flex its muscles. This could be the cause of having to try and scramble and get a team in the Armed Forces (and why ESPN would try to help it happen), and would make sense why RV is 99.9% sure we will play in the DFW. Sadly, it would contradict the grassy knoll theory.

  27. I think our offense would've prevented a lot of the fast breaks that BYU had. Also, do we have Jordan Williams, Chris Jones, and Tony Mitchell all eligible for this game? I think lose by 10 is likely.

  28. I'm in a class with one of the players. If I'd sat near him and didn't have to wait for a paper I'd written to be handed out, I would have asked him today. Oh well. I'm betting SSP and Mrs. Y'Barbo's thoughts are right in line with what I would have heard anyway, though.

  29. Hmmmm good question. I think BYU would have beaten us by about ten.

  30. You want a franchise that falls in love with and over-valued players past their prime, there is one that is literally down the street from The Ballpark that is just what you are looking for. Churning the roster, concentrate on pitching, and getting younger and better bats is what this team needs to do. and they sare doing it. It does suck for the kiddos. 2 of their fan favorites gone in a couple of years.

  31. We also need to figure out what three-point shooting phenom is out for the season with an injury, thus preventing Benford's unstoppable system from manifesting for another year.

  32. Nobody but this guy. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20131202/college-football-bowl-projections/#ixzz2mOBHkyMb Or this guy. http://www.philsteele.com/bowls/13-14/bowlprojections.html Or this site http://cfn.scout.com/2/557866.html Oh, and our own AD seems to lean that direction in the podcast. Either these people are all "affiliated with North Texas" or you're wrong about "no one" thinking we're headed to a bowl in our own back yard, with a huge alumni base to buy tickets.

  33. This x 1000. The QB job was wide open this Spring and even Fall. I think Mac may have contemplated moving DW into the starting role if DT had huge early struggles. He didn't (and don't bring up Ohio. That was completely Mac's fault for insisting on running on every 1st down in the first half). Mac saw he could win with DT and the offense could give him what he thought he needed (and it did in every conference game except 2, one of which was Mac's fault) so he stuck with the horse that brung 'em. Mac is an old school coach. We will never be aggressive offensively, but if he can put a defense on the field every year like the one that played this year, that's fine. DW will win the starting job. We will throw sparingly, and hopefully win a lot.

  38. MUCH prefer the HOD for several reasons. 1)Many people will have New Year's day off so a Dec 30 date would effect attendance compared to Jan 1. 2)I've always wanted to see my school play a game in the Cotton Bowl. Don't know why, it's just really cool to me. 3)Amon Carter is nice but it just seems more prestigious to be in the Cotton Bowl than in TCU's stadium. 4)DART runs straight to the gates of Fair Park. So much better for anyone who wanted to have an early morning tailgate off-site. Also, the potential for a party at a Dallas hotel and then a train ride down in the morning is far superior. 5)We beat Rice!!! Let them play somewhere else. Another thing to consider, last year Rice played Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl. That bowl may not want to see that same matchup again. Oh, and I already have a hook up for cheap Armed Forces Bowl tickets for law enforcement.

  40. Every player that I have talked to wants HAWAII. Most are Sophomores and Freshman, though. Most upperclassmen want to stay here for HoD from what I understand. UNDERCLASSMEN- Hawaii, then St Petersburg... No doubt. Don' t think they aren't thinking about bowl packages too. They want an iPad mini and a fossil watch. Not a lavish suite. lol

  41. Agree, Lifer. But, you can see behind the thin veil that some people here still don't think that Thompson legitimately won the starting job. Crazy. Crazier still that a coach with as many years under his belt as McCarney, and in need of a winning season, would risk perhaps his last head coaching gig on a whim called favoritism. If people here still don't think Thompson is a good quarterback, how in the world do they think the two elder statesmen backups who could never beat him out are going to be any better? Our best chances going forward are most likely going to be Dajon and any other quarterback signed this year and next not named McNulty or Berglund.

  42. If that is selfish, are we as a fanbase selfish when we clamor for a local bowl game that we can attend, when most of these players will probably never have another chance in their lives to visit Hawaii? Just asking the question, as I would also prefer Dallas.

  43. My o-man wants Dallas so we (hopefully/should) have a great group of fans in stands. Downtown Dallas on NY Eve could be pretty fun!

  44. Little late to the party but you guys knocking Fielder's health and eating habits should probably pay more attention to the fact that he literally never sits out a game. He's always been healthy and in the lineup since getting to the major leagues. Doesn't matter though, I can't support the Rangers now that they've traded all their white guys.

  45. For Ranger logic, sure...but what if your aim is self-righteous indignation?

  46. Joe Nathan - Had two great years here but they don't need him anymore. They can save his salary requirements and give the closing job to Feliz, Soria or possibly Ogando though I think that's unlikely. Nathan is also up there in age. That's not to say he won't or can't have another good season or two or three but he didn't have much of a place here anymore. He was also used up quite a bit and some of that was in September. Gentry - Nice player that will serve a great purpose on any team but he was what he was...a nice 4th OF'er with a lot of intangibles. People forget he's already 30 yrs old. His upside has already been seen for the most part Long term he won't be a big loss. And the offseason is really far from over. This deal today may very well increases their chances of signing Shin Soo Choo and Nelly is still out there that can be signed as a DH/OF combo which I would so love Not sure why you would not be excited...were you not pleased with the Fielder acquisition? The team is better now than it was when the season ended and we haven't even reached winter meetings yet. All that said it was great seeing Kitten face for the last 3 years or so. Some say that Choice is ML ready now and could eventually be able to be an everyday corner OF'er. Change was needed and inevitable this off season. Being fresh and not stale is very important and I think the Rangers FO knows and realizes this.
