Bravo to the AD for buying a gane. Need to do it 2 or 3 more times to get out of the scheduling hole the AD has put us in. Since you are an extremely myopic, reactionary rah rah kind of guy, please look at the below link: http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-15/conf-usa/2015-north-texas-mean-green-football-schedule.php Don't be surprised when the AD tries to tell you that the at SMU game is actually "an alternative sight home game." But don't stop there, my myopic minion, take a look at 2016, 2017, and 2018 and you will realize the scheduling pickle we have gotten ourselves into. Oh, and guess who is hosting OU next year? That would be Tulsa. That's right, Tulsa. In that quaint but tiny stadium of theirs. I guess OU wants to play in that hotbed of north Oklahoma recruiting. Meanwhile, we are told to be happy with Houston as a "marque" home game. Scheduling football. One of the worst things this AD does.8 points

One of the best experiences as a student at North Texas was yesterday at the Tulsa game. It felt good to be Mean Green. I was a member of the group who signed up for SGA's charted bus from UNT to Tulsa. We left at 8am and arrived back on campus at 10pm. Why was there a victory that wasn't mentioned? Our fans at that game rocked that entire stadium. I really believe it was due to all the students that were shuttled from campus. There were about 40 of us in the endzone starting most of the chants. Accidental or not we happened to be leaders in all different departments and organizations across campus. We started 95% of the NORTH TEXAS that everyone was hearing on the broadcast, including DEFENSE and BLOCK THAT PUNT (again). So kudos to SGA for doing this.. this should be done for pretty much every away game next season. Our fans even when we were down 7-10 Tulsa, were on their feet and loud. Tulsa even turned up their sound system to try and block us out. Their 17,792 attendance could not block us out. The field marshals/security people were even making snide remarks at us. I believe that we blew that stadium up and roared with only 800-900 fans. I am happy that we gave UNT Football the love that they deserve.7 points

I'll always remember the faces of the Tulsa bench, when the North Texas chant was echoing through the empty (of Tulsa fans) Skelly H. A. Chapman Stadium, as the clock counted down to zeros! Priceless!5 points

I'm an alumni of both schools, though I got my undergrad at UNT... being involved with both schools I would not say that SMU alums have more money, rather the school is better at getting money out of their alumni. SMU has a very strong connection with their alumni association, they wine us and dine us, and then out come our check books. I have always been a UNT football fan and make most home games, but that alumni center next to the stadium is a joke, its a tool shed with a bathroom, hardly anyone is ever in there. if you ask me, the school needs to turn the alumni center around on game day, make it a place that every alum wants to visit on game day, free drinks and food, shake hands with former players, and the check books will come out.5 points

Hmmm...I'm pulling for our conference mate. A short timer, but they might be back. And I think listing the number of wins by CUSA will improve our conference's preception. GO MEAN GREEN4 points

Totally agree with this whole paragraph. I especially think we should go after Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oregon State, Washington State. These schools have proven in the past that they will schedule home-and-home deals with non-big5 schools. Hugh Freeze, Dan Mullen, Mike Riley, and Mike Leach all love to recruit down here in Texas as well. Our AD should make this happen4 points

Just wanted to throw this out there, for some of you to Marinate on. The North Texas offense scored over 30 points in six games this season, the most since returning to FBS football in 1995 and it marks only the fifth time in school history the Mean Green has had a season of scoring 30 points or more in six games. North Texas has rushed for over 300-yards three times in 2013, which is the most in a single season since 1959. NT has 2,208 rushing yards for the season, which are the 13th most rushing yards in a single season in school history. North Texas has shattered the school record for total offense in a single season with 4,939 yards of offense. The Mean Green can surpass the 5,000 yard mark for the first time in school history with 61 yards in the bowl game. The Mean Green offensive line for the second straight season ranks in the top-10 in the nation for fewest sacks allowed. NT has allowed only 10 sacks this season, which ranks seventh in the nation. Since 2012, the North Texas offensive line has allowed the fewest sacks in the nation with just 16. North Texas set a school record for 3rd down conversions this season, converting 46 percent on 3rd down. Since 2011, the Mean Green offense has three of the top-10 rushing games in school history. In addition the Mean Green has rushed for 28 touchdowns, which is tied for the second most in school history and the most since 2003. North Texas had had four games of over 500-yards of total offense this season for only the second time in school history. It ties the previous record set in 2009 and one more game of 500 yards of total offense will break the school record.4 points

I'm pretty much right with UNT90 on all things scheduling. But, I will say this about Tulsa hosting Oklahoma. Tulsa hosts Oklahoma a lot--its kind of OUs way of pleasing their Tulsa alums and fans with a game up there every so often. Its similar to Texas playing Rice in Houston, Tech playing at SMU, or LSU playing Tulane in New Orleans--all of which have occured multiple times over the last 20+ years. As far as buying a home game against NIcholls State, that's fine. The situation is what it is--we need an extra home game, so we have to buy one, since we ourselves allow our football to be a bought program for a money game at an SEC/Big XII powerhouse every year, or at least until we play at Iowa in 2017. The SMU game in 2015 will be called an "alternative home game" by the AD, so that is what we may also get in 2017, as well, if we get another bodybag game at Traditional Southern AQ Powerhouse Full of Speedy NFL Athletes, probably OU, since we haven't played them lately on the carousel of bodybag games. Again, the AD would be able to conveniently say, "Although we aren't playing 6 home games this year, we will have two games well within driving distance for our fans for OOC games--@ SMU and @ OU." If not, then in 2017, we may get another Idaho, Nicholls State, or NMSU team in Apogee for our buyout game. Its fine, I suppose, to have SMU and Army as your marquee home games in OOC, but when we built Apogee, we were told that we could finally host bigger named teams because our facilities would be able to host them comfortably (without making the visitors stay in a dumpster of a locker room or without a stadium that was a toilet ). Teams that people want to come and see because they are opportunity games at home. I get that the Big XII teams have lots of exposure now in the Metroplex, from playing at TCU or playing games at the Cotton Bowl and at Jerry World. When you mix in games that SMU hosts at Ford with Tech, Baylor, or A&M, it makes it tough to believe that we would logically get many of those teams top play here. But I've always maintained that Oklahoma State would be a great team to play here, since they don't have annual games here in the area. Then, you look at K-State, Kansas, Iowa State, Mizzou, Nebraska, and Colorado and ask them if they want to come down here and get some exposure to the Texas HS talent that they don't get in front of as much anymore, especially Nebraska, Colorado, and Mizzou. It just seems too logical to me, which is why it probably won't ever happen. If none of those teams will do an even series with us, then go ask one of the Arizona schools or Utah or BYU to come over here. Do the same thing for the Mississippi schools or Vandy or Kentucky. Hell, call Miami and set up a series with them--their attendance is terrible anyway. Call Georgia Tech or Louisville. IOW, there are a lot of AQ teams who would be willing to come here if those close by won't, since it might hurt their prestige if they had to play a game in, gulp, Denton. I guess the main point here is that SMU and Army are terrific OOC opponents--but they aren't marquee opponents, or at least shouldn't be thought of that way, to me. They would make perfect complimentary opponents to another higher profile school. PLus, you then deliver on your promise to the season ticket holders--to give them a better facility to watch the Mean Green play against better competition than what Fouts provided. Because Fouts was more than capable of hosting SMU and Army.3 points

Yup, same here to both accounts. I think we have a good chance. UT normally craps the bed early. Look how far we've come, good lord. Also, yeah, tune up bodybag teams? I'm all for it. What the big schools do, and I firmly think Mac has given us a solid foundation for that. Tune up games. Gotta love the sound of that. Also, UNT90...so what do you say now? 6 home games appears to be true.3 points

We have seen the back up QB's very rarely this year, even when we are up by a few scores. Is anyone else frustrated with the lack of passing being allowed? This is valuable experience and seems like a waste for just hand offs, especially on 3rd and longs. I want to see some of our other guys throw, and see what else we have going for us next year. I can only remember DW doing any consistent throwing in the game he played. So what's the motive here? Is DMac trying to conserve the lead? Building their confidence? Avoiding injury? Avoiding turn overs?2 points

I agree with the overall sentiment, but this is a microscopic critique. 3 chances to get some meaningful PT for a backup QB without experimenting with our successful season: 10/26 - @USM: At the beginning of the 4th quarter, the scoreboard read 48-14. UNT was in full control of this game from start to finish. 11/9 - UTEP: with 13:55 remaining, the scoreboard read 35 - 7. The Miners had virtually no offense to speak of. Not only was this a good time to get a backup QB some PT, we could have kept a few starters off of the trainers table in the 4th quarter as well (that D. Smith injury looked serious at the time). 11/30 - @Tulsa: At the beginning of the 4th quarter, the scoreboard read 35-10. Tulsa was showing nothing on offense other than Watts, and he was being contained as well as he could be. Maybe Dajon got hurt in his time VS Idaho and that spooked coach McCarney. I bet Rollins' injury VS UTEP spooked him. Maybe coach McCarney though his backups weren't ready yet (too fragile), therefore did not want to risk their health? Who knows.2 points

Well, I'm not really opining. I really don't see how they would get six games in 2015. I can't control that. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.2 points

Outside of avoiding a Sunbelt opponent, others' attractiveness is primarily based on how they match-up against us. We saw the speed of UTSA (compared to other CUSA opponents) create trouble, so give me a slow, plodding Big Ten school.2 points

For those able to make the trip, many thanks for the commitment & sacrifice. After seeing how UTSA was able to drive me crazy at Apogee with their personalization of the Green Brigade's tunes into UTSA garbage emphasized the great benefit of traveling well.2 points

I decided to not be lazy and find the answer myself. According to the media guide the last time we played a ranked opponent at the Super Pit was 12/30/1999 against #25 Tulsa (113-77 L). NT is 5-92 all time against ranked opponents with the last win coming @ #15 Louisville by a score of 79-73 on 2/27/1971. For those of you keeping score, that is almost 43 years. The last time NT beat a ranked opponent at home was 2/10/1970 with a 93-81 win over #11 Drake. Current streak is 44 straight losses. Page 58 of the below link has our all time results vs. AP top 25 teams. In the last 25 years NT has had two games at home against Top 25 teams. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/ntex/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/2013-14/misc_non_event/2013_Fact_And_Record_Book.pdf2 points

I'm all for this. After this season, we lose to graduation: DE - Aaron Bellazin DT - Richard Abbe DT - Ryan Boutwell DE - Brandon McCoy FS - Marcus Trice OLB - Will Wright MLB - Zach Orr RT - LaChris Anyiam TE - Drew Miller WR - Darnell Smith WR - Brelan Chancellor H-Back/TE - Daniel Prior QB - Derek Thompson RB - Brandin Byrd Will be happy to have the third game of the season be a chance for the new starters to gel a little more before beginning the C-USA schedule. Six of the front seven on defense will be new. And, the offense loses the trio of fellows who have assaulted the UNT record books in Chancellor, Thompson, and Bryd. So, yes...give me Nichols State. And, if we can afford it, do what Kansas State and Texas Tech often did - schedule two FCS schools, if possible for next season only!2 points

Take this waste of space to the UT board. North Texas is going to a bowl game after it's first winning season in a long time and people are wasting time talking about about Mack Brown and Bob Stoops. WTF!!!! Is it any wonder why the NT fan base is considered a joke? The only thing that will change the perception of the NT football program is a bowl win and then following it up with a no more than two loss season next year. To be considered a quality program is what I desire, not sure about anyone else. And quality programs win, and win on a consistent basis.2 points

It all depends on who is doing the writing. There are two types of writers out there that are published by Bleacher Report, Examiner.com and other sites as such. 1 -- The person that was told by a few friends that they are "good writers." This person typically takes a "Let's toss this against the wall and see what sticks" approach to writing. Maybe they've made a couple of good sports points here and there over a few beers and has a very supportive and loving family that doesn't want to tell them to their face that they don't know the difference between there, their and they're. On top of that, they're not that well-informed and so they have to rely on speculation with a sprinkling of hopes and dreams. It's like the guy that tries out for American Idol that was coaxed by his friends after a karaoke performance that was, well, the nice thing to say to them. Little did his drunk friends know that he'd actually take them up on it. These writers make the next group look bad. 2 -- The serious sports writer that is actually trying to make a name for him/herself. These writers can be pretty reliable if they do their legwork properly. Sports programs have actually granted these kinds of writers access to their programs. As they build their reputation and make a name for themselves, they move onto bigger and better opportunities. (See Aaron Torres and Kevin McGuire, http://bloguin.com/crystalballrun/) Those guys have built a pretty reputable site for themselves based on work they used to do for Examiner.com and Bleacher Report. Kevin actually is a member of the Football Writers of America and does local blogging for NBC and CBS in the Philly area) So, all of this to say -- just look at who is doing the writing. The proof is in the pudding. Honestly, the chances are that the writer is average to below average, but don't paint them all with such a wide brush. There are some gems out there to be found. Having said all that though, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.2 points

Comparing UNT-D to UTEP or any of the UT system schools is not equal. Those system schools were long-standing universities prior to assimilating into the UT system. UNT-D is an infant school. I highly doubt their students have "Jaguar Pride". Why not encourage them to come see big brother play just up the road? We always talk smack about UTSA, UTA, etc... being full of students who only want to transfer to Austin. Why don't we try and foster the same feelings for our system school to the South? I wonder what the # of bright students at UNT-D wearing Mean Green gear would be? Probably nowhere near the # of UT/A&M supporters. This is a golden opportunity to change that.2 points
