Look at in one year how high the expectations have been raised, which is a great thing. I would assume that if most of our fan base had been told that after 11 games, with any combination of wins and losses that we would be 7-4, most would be ecstatic. Yet, it is hard not to be extremely disappointed with where we aren't.. We should be playing for a division title next week, but bad losses happen. At the very least, this season has raised the expectation level, and hopefully the bar will stay high.8 points

I don't mean to come across rude, but what a completely ridiculous generalization. While of course I agree the HS football in Texas is better than Colorado, to make the general claim that QB's in TX tend to be better because they played in Texas is just plan crazy. So you give the edge to Dajon because he played in TX and Brock in Colorado? I'm not saying for sure Brock is better. I have no idea. You can't base it on highlights. But I would never just generally say they both look similar on tape but Dajon is better because he played in Texas. I seem to remember a Rivals ranking of dual threat QBs and Brock was sandwiched between Evert Golson and Johnny Manziel. Again, not saying he is those guys, nor am I saying he is better than Dajon, but to just simply dismiss him because he played in CO is ridiculous. It reminds me of the time my sister had chicken McNuggets at one McDonald's in Montreal. She made the claim McNuggets are much better in Canada than the United States. Just a dumb blanket generalization.5 points

UNT also got a commitment from Carthage's 6'5" WR Rutherford today. Both Denton Bound! Very Happy for these two young men and for UNT! They are both great guys and great talents!4 points

I think that most everyone has been happy with this season. The team has been praised for their wins and criticized to some extent for losses. Mostly though, the losses were just disappointment at what could have been. I don't believe that the problem last week was losing to UTSA. To me, it was coming out (and staying) flat with so much at stake. Even worse, we had two weeks to prepare. The disappointment is mostly aimed at the coaching staff. It's their job to prepare the team with a game plan and see that it is executed to the best of the player's ability. UTSA did that. UNT did not. We cannot be West Division champions or play for the conference championship and that's disappointing. There is no do-over. We can still beat Tulsa and win a bowl game. That would make it a great season. Even if we lose both, at 7-6 we would still have a winning season. Certainly acceptable but you have to feel a little sad for the seniors especially, who might have won a conference championship,3 points

What if that is simply a factual statement? If the guy is the fundraiser people say he is, I doubt he's clueless about the value of collegiate athletics as part of keeping alums connected to their alma mater. Besides, being from UNLV, I'd think it's possible he may have an idea or two about basketball, even if he couldn't double their former coach's salary to match what Oklahoma offered. You should be interested in that. I say, give this new prez a chance.3 points

Glad I drove from Grand Prairie to the show tonight at Rudy's. I am hoping on the 24 hour rule and moving on to Tulsa. Hopefully, a hit 8 and then a Bowl Game afterwards. In three years, taking one of the five worst FBS teams in the last 7 years, to a potential 8-4 record is incredible. And, you youngster may have lots of Bow games left, but it has been a long time since 2004, and I am going to take time to enjoy it. Tulsa-Time!3 points

I went to the UH-Penn State game two years ago and got tickets for around $30 each of stubhub. I imagine there will be a similar market for that.3 points

Six raindrops and or 40 degree weather and you will be able to shoot a cannon through the North Texas section and not hit anyone. The turnout for the UTSA game was pathetic considering what was on the line.3 points

If we do indeed end up in the Heart of Dallas Bowl, would it not be appropriate for Reunion Tower to have UNT in it's light show like it does for SMU? How great would that be??!!2 points

We pass as much as we run... People mistake missed throws and dropped passing plays for either run plays or plays that never happened.2 points

Wow. Hey, Las Vegas ain't all that great during the daylight hours, bro. And, hot? Nevadas got that in spades as well. Humid? This ain't Houston. We're six hours from the coast. Humidity is fine here. I'm guessing the author doesn't realize how big the DFW metroplex is these days. There are no more long stretches of nothing between Dallas and Denton.2 points

Absolutely. The key word is should. We have the weapons, as was an excuse in the past, and we have some young talent at qb. We should be able to air it out and I hope playcalling doesn't hinder that2 points

Are you serious? Surely you are joking. 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 5, 4.................our win totals since our last bowl appearance (2004). The fact you even suggest that someone needs to apologize for Saturday's loss is mind-blowing. Our first year in a "bigger/better" conference and we are one game away from playing in the championship game, we will close with 8 wins, and make our first bowl appearance in 8 seasons.......all GREAT things. And someone needs to "apologize"?2 points

Nice! This is just the good news I needed after last Saturday. I'm happy we got Tee, but am also ecstatic we got Rutherford. It will be interesting to see how this class shapes up, we should have some JUCO players commit here in the next couple weeks.2 points

Currently 7-4 with a chance to be 8-4 at the end of the regular season PLUS going to a Bowl Game. How is this not real world success?2 points

At this time 3 years ago we sucked. We were 6-30 for the 3 years prior to that. We were also saddled with scholarship restictions because of player academic problems. I'm not going to nitpick a coach who has won more games this season than we did in the 3 seasons before he got here. The season is still in progress. It is not out of the realm of possibility that we go 9-4, and Mac goes to another school and leaves the second guessers behind.2 points

I don't know if UTSA will go bowling his year, but I sure hope they do. It would be good for us because it not only raises the regional perception of our conference, but it also financially benefits the entire conference in bowl game revenue distributions. The message board banter leading up to the game is fun and all, but we should want nothing but the best for our conference mates once the game is over.2 points

On the topic of attendance, there are so many offsetting factors, it's tough to make a decent estimate. The good: There are so many people who go to mid-major schools that don't go to games, and probably won't travel to bowl games, but if it's right near home, and is a huge bowl game against a well-known B1G opponent like Iowa or Michigan, you can bet a bunch will suddenly swear they're lifelong fans of their alma mater and show up. However... The bad: Yup, it will probably be cold. And it's a holiday game, which means though many will be off work, they also have the excuse of alternate plans. But... Good: Yeah, a month in advance to sell tickets helps. The more people that buy early, the less will make other plans. So we need a big boost to sell tickets early if/when/as soon as we get the invitation. Bad: Over the holidays, will we see as many students, regardless of ticket prices? I hope so, but it's hard to make assurances. So I'd estimate between 20-30K, which is a huge range, but with so many factors in play, it will be a stab in the dark to make an estimate this early with any hope of accuracy. Let's just push for the biggest attendance number possible!2 points

Quick update on Tee Goree. Did not make it in on Saturday with his qb Bogenschutz, UTSA commit, probably because of the weather, seeing as they had already freezed their butts off at their game the night before. He also will be playing in the offense-defense All-American game in Orlando either in December or January. That bowl is about the third-highest profile high school all-star game in the country behind the under armour and army all-american bowls. There will be very good talent from all across the country at that game. Finally, he tweeted tonight that he is very excited about his future. Tweets are tough and sometimes dangerous to read too much into. Could mean he is going to commit tomorrow, could mean something non-football related. Either way I'd stay tuned tomorrow to see what goes on here.2 points

The team did not take UTSA lightly. I thought I read where a few players tweeted that they did not see how this team had only 5 wins after watching film. I asked someone on the staff last week about UTSA and I expected him to say, it would be an easy win. He was honest and said they do some things that gives us trouble from a defensive standpoint. I knew exactly what he meant. It was a bad matchup and we got beat. With all the success we have this year, this coaching staff is still coaching around weaknesses. I wish we would have be bold enough to try more things, but im sure they do not want to expose more weaknesses and at the end, we were still in position to steal the game.2 points

I live in Austin and deal with condescending UT a-holes on a daily basis. I remember our game at Ford Stadium against SMU and what a bunch of d-bags they were (especially the talk on mylittleponyfans.com). I thought we were a fanbase that wished the other teams good luck and didn't belittle them or their university. I guess we can only be humble when we are getting are asses whipped year in and year out.2 points

In what NCAA universe would UTSA get a bowl game since all the stars in the galaxy would have to align for them to have a remote chance? Yes, I'm sure they would bring a good crowd to Dallas but unless no one else noticed the day we beat UTEP at Apogee we outdrew UTSA who was playing Tulane in the AlamoDome for a game that was as important to the RR's as our game was to them. They played well Saturday but our team had already been told by those who apparently knew that they would have a bowl game while UTSA was still extremely motivated to get even their remote chance for one which would inspire most any team--plus they played well....and we played flat as a pancake. I only hope CUSA doesn't have to go down in quality for us to have a chance to win its championships every year, though. And I'd prefer UTSA keep it going on with their crowds in the 30's and 40's instead of their dipping down to meet our annual attendance sub-standards. I hope we don't have alums start bragging on this board about even this year's attendance averages, either. We are operating well below the quality and standards that hardly befit our school with the enrollment it has along with its geographical population base of over 7,000,000 people. It is the hope of many that our new UNT president will inspire others to set new standards which might even mean actual goal-setting in season ticket sales and higher attendance averages since those are still the 2 main criteria which allows schools like all the ones who've passed us by in decades past to...........pass us by. We played a school last Saturday, folks, that could very well be the next one if we don't watch out and if we don't start taking care of our business as an NCAA FBS level program.2 points

I like to read fan comments from my favorite teams and my beloved UNT, but I never post...mostly because of comments and arguments like some on this thread. However, the title "McCarney had better apologize for this" set me off. Here are some thoughts from a 2nd generation alum with 2 degrees from U of NT... 1. The name of the thread itself...Seriously?! I am so thankful to be back in a bowl game that I am beside myself. The loss is disappointing, but this is a winning season with some great plays made by our players and gutsy calls by our coach. I will take this over the Dodge era any day and I am excited at the reasonably quick turnaround considering the scholarship restrictions and general mess that had to be cleaned up. Thanks Coach Mac and please stick around! 2. The "power of the forum" shenanigans...I think both sides are actually right. Trash talk before a game is normal and no coach, player, or average fan will give a crap. But trash talk and a superiority complex that lingers for a long long time towards one school as what apparently has been the case around here with regards to UTSA creates legit bulletin board material. That kind of garbage is partly way we hate SMU so much. I know their trash talk would be shared with our players if we were to play them and think most of you would agree. UTSA played with more than just a chip...In general, a forum is an interesting read for a fan like me, and a place to vent for fans like you, but sometimes it can be ripe fruit for firing up an opponent beyond the normal "it's game time" level and transcend into heated rivalry mode. 3. And for rivalries, what is so bad about UTSA becoming a rivalry. They are not that far, obviously fired up and starting FBS football with a relative bang, and would tie in perfectly with a reasonably good attendance building showdown for schools like us, Rice, LaTech, ect. It might be due to the fact that I cheer for the little guy and the upset (you should see my brackets in March) unless they are playing us, but I don't get why their is snobbish SMU style hate from some of you towards them. They are relatively close and want to play. Congrats to them for a good win in a meaningful game and let's get some payback next year. Finally, back to my first point which got me taking the time to actually post...I agree with the Bill Snyder comment. He got beat by a David team that punched a Goliath right in the mouth...it does not mean that he is a bad coach, and the same goes for Mac. We made it back to a bowl game folks!!!2 points

I don't know when we beat a team like UTSA. They remind me of those fiu teams with Ty Hilton that played up tempo with speed and swagger. We looked intimidated on our own field. Not sure how we beat them in the dome. I don't mind conservative confident but conservative scared and frustrated sucked. Smack talk makes me uncomfortable too so you are not alone Austin. I get it and love our rabid diehards but fan bases are branded and if I were a roadrunner I wouldn't think positively of all out fans especially since they have scoreboard. I thought UTSA fans at the game and many on this Board were cool nice and proud San Antonians. The UTSA loss is a nightmare for Tulsa. We are bringing it hard this weekend and HOD here we come. For the record on 1st down we passed 17 times and ran 15 times. On 1st down we passed 1 more time than ran in each half. Over all we passed 46 times and ran 28 times. We just got beat by a team that seemed intent on making a statement. Give them some credit as they held Tulane to 7 points the game before us. We just need to let it go, regroup, and beat Tulsa. Let's get to 8 wins.1 point

If I had to pick who our qb is going to be next year, I'd say it's going to be Dajon. But you're making this a matter of picking sides. Or like we're GMs that are making a draft pick between Brock and Dajon. Us "Brock guys" are just saying that counting him out is pointless. What if he blows it up in spring ball and beats out Dajon? I just want whoever gives us a better chance to score more points and win us more games at quarterback. That's who my favorite qb between the two will be. Regardless of where they came from, they both play for the guys in green right now so I'll root for whoever is under center equally and unconditionally.1 point

I know! I'm so ecstatic for this season. We should be playing for the championship. The UTSA loss hurts. But it is what it is. This is just a precursor to better times ahead for the Mean Green. I don't see this team dropping off any time soon. It's a good time to be green.1 point
