I think that this was as embarrassing loss as we've had. First, this is a provisional FBS team. They aren't even fully qualified until next year and can't even go to a bowl unless there is a slot that can't be filled due to lack of qualifiers. Notice I didn't say humiliating loss....just embarrassing. Here's what it has or could have cost us.... The West Division crown Revenue from a championship playoff game The Liberty or Heart of Dallas Bowl Recruits Fan support Season ticket holders Mean Green Club donations Positive press The feeling could be that we aren't very good. Ball State and Rice were our only wins over a team with a winning record. The loss put us behind Rice and Tulane in the West and East Carolina and Marshall in the East. I do believe that UTSA is a rapidly improving team and deserved to win but this is truly disappointing. Edit: I'm sorry, but this may have dropped us to fourth in the West; I didn't check UTSA's record.7 points

Thanks for the hospitality. Apogee is really nice and your fans were really nice. I got to the stadium much later than I expected so I didn't have much chance to visit, but it was nice to meet All about UNT and SSP. Hope to see y'all next year in SA. Regards, Jeff7 points

How could they not come back and post after the way many of our fellow posters taunted and belittled them during the week? We were 7-3 in the C-USA and some here thought we had a juggernaut. What we have is a good football team in a conference full of former Sun Belt schools. We've made a lot of progress. It's taken three long years. Instead of appreciating it, we take to talking down to other fans who visit the board and preening like spoiled brats when we fall to 7-4.5 points

Falling out of first and likely out of the conference championship game at home against a third year program we're favored over is one hell of a growing pain.5 points

So you are saying it is a school from the city of San Antonio that no one cares about, that is moving up to the top level of competition, where we have played for decades? I LOVE OUR CHANCES!4 points

I don't really believe in that. We lost because we got our ass handed to us. Need to give them their due.4 points

Cowardly play calling IMO. We worked hard all game to try and get down there and instead of going for it on 4th down we settle for a field goal. The worst part is we are still down 8 points meaning you back yourself up to a corner and are forced for a 2 point conversion if you score a TD. I'm of the mentality that you should take that chance and at least give yourself a chance to win instead of allowing the other team to run the game down. Not to mention the motivation going to your side and pumping up your team.4 points

For those calling for a change on offense: Be very, very careful what you wish for. We're not nearly as conservative as McCarney would like to be. If you think its bad now, go ahead and let Canales walk, and see how it looks next fall. I'm thinking it won't be pleasant.4 points

Awesome... I never once said anything about program comparisons.. All I ever harped on was the team itself. I told y'all this team plays hard and truly cares about being the best they can be. All y'all wanted to do was disrespect and crack jokes. Well, joke's on you this year... Til we meet again next year, friend.4 points

We did lose. Yes, it hurts. Maybe they were the better team today because they had more fire. And maybe the condescension of their program from our side fueled that fire. In any case, they did not piss on our field like a certain Rice player did. They beat Tulane and they beat us. They simply want respect. We also want respect. Larry Coker, the two time national coach of the year, simply had them ready to take what they wanted. And they did. My people can tell you, history favors victory more than sportmanship.4 points

And a coaching staff with balls to lay it out there. Way too conservative play calling.4 points

"We just didn’t play Mean Green football and lost to a soft, unphysical, below-average football team." -Mason Y’Barbo http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20131124-football-unt-loses-shot-at-west-title.ece3 points

Yesterday's attendance of 19.335 gives us a final season average of 21,030. It's our best ever and a decent start towards an Apogee sellout.3 points

If you're not very accurate then you better be able to run... If you can't do that either.... You're not very good.3 points

Crowd was a pleasant surprise. Better than I thought for the conditions. I was layered and still froze my obama. That was the coldest 40-degree day I have experienced in years.3 points

As one of the biggest instigators leading up to this game... I want to thank you guys for the opportunity y'all presented UTSA today. All shit talking aside, this was a HUGE opportunity for us, and we definitely appreciate it. Good luck the rest of the season... Finish strong!3 points

Times like this make it very unfortunate that we can't plus one mods. I would plus one you on my account and create a new one while wearing my glasses and fake nose/mustache and give you plus ones on that one as well.3 points

Harry, come on...you're know that Dan McCarney is a "dance with who brung ya" kind of coach. We didn't get this far passing first, then running. It is not going to change. And, if it puts us in position to be in the conference title hunt year after year instead of being at the bottom of the standings, I say let Dan have his way.3 points

I guess their fans were rewarded with a victory because of their loyalty and trash talk? You know, you may be on to something there. On second thought, put down the Taro Cards, and Voodoo dolls. We were out coached and out played.3 points
-
I was on the UTSA sideline. The UNT student section were being just as "trashy." They said stuff to me as i passed by wearing my UTSA gear, but i let it slide because both are young. It's just part of the game. That's what happens when you have the student section near the visiting team - that's why you want them there, right? To be a distraction to the opponent.3 points

It was tough watching my two schools going at it tonight, but my first school, UTSA, pulled it out. They had to work for it at the end. No matter all the heavy trash talk these past 2 weeks, i know too many good people at both schools that outshine the attitudes of a few. UNT, is still a good team, but it was the Runners night. Good game UNT. Cant wait to have y'all in San Antonio next year. My hat off to Coach McCarney. Right after the win, while i was on the field i saw him looking for Coach Coker, and wouldn't get off the field until he shook hits hand. He told Coker "you have a hell of a team!" And Coker said "you have the same." Sportsmanship and respectrespect right there.3 points

I really will NEVER understand this type of attitude to our players. I for one, have enjoyed watching him this year and he bleeds green.3 points

Some here have been laughing longer than that. They laughed when UTSA hired Coker, before they were even fielding a team. He was a steal. I said so at the time. Our fanbase - many of whom eagerly supported the hiring of high school coach Todd Dodge - to this day, even in defeat to Coker, still look for other excuses. He's an excellent football coach. Always has been, always will be. Also, it's (sadly) amazing to see how much perspective our fanbase has lost in such a short amount of time. We are no longer thankful for a winning season, a bowl season. Instead, we are upset at the record-setting coaching staff and players. Crazy.3 points

Coming out flat after bye weeks cost us a shot at the conference championship. This is on the coaching staff more than anybody else. This game and the game vs Tulane pretty much mirrored each other.3 points

Congrats to UTSA...they've been saying for almost since we knew we would be conference-mates how they were going to kick our butts....guess they knew something we didn't. A HFC with a national championship under his belt did more than I thought it would. (Like many of you, I am still quite happy with our UNT HFC, though). Too many over-thrown and under-thrown passes this afternoon....that's all I really need to say about that EXCEPT....3 of those over-throws had 6 points written all over them; but yes, I know--it was a team loss. DT#7 did not have a good game today at all, but he's had other good games which has helped us get to (imagine this).............7 wins. LOOKING BACK: WE HAVE BEEN SUCH A BENEVOLENT FOOTBALL SCHOOL O YES WE HAVE: North Texas helped out Bill Snyder and Kansas State when we became his first win back in the late 80's; UNT was UA-Birmingham's first ever FBS level win as I recall, too; continuing with our most benevolent mode the Mean Green was South Florida's first ever FBS level win just as well; an upstart FAU beat North Texas during 2 of our bowl seasons when they were an SBC member-in-waiting football program. I guess we have been the best damn thing to happen to several up and coming football programs of which some we'd all have to admit to each other have even passed our favorite school by. Today's attendance may have been our biggest loss, though, but I guaran'damn'tee you the new UNT president is going to get a very well worded/crafted letter with all the necessary researched statistics as to why that has been an on-going problem when it should not be that at all in our DFW population center of almost 8 million souls. The new UNT Prez' may also very well read as to how it takes UNT almost 3 home games to draw what UTSA drew in a single game in this their Year 3 of an NCAA football existence. Today's weather was perfect for November--hell, the sun almost peeked thru the clouds during the 3'rd quarter. Still, aren't we all just about tired of all the excuses that we have been conditioned to keep buying into all these years and so many of our elect accepting each one in order to (I suppose).................go along to get along? Yes, I'm piss-you're pissed but I am not going to pat mediocrity on the back at UNT and subsequently become just as much a part of the problem as those who keep annually producing them with their (still) having no viable "get out there among the masses" marketing program as to introduce thousands of Denton County newcomers to Apogee Stadium and the Mean Green football program. Coach Mac has a reason to point his finger--just don't think he's always pointing it in the right direction, though. Building Apogee (25 years a bit late) is only half the solution at UNT---the other half is filling the damn thing EVERY Game Day. Some upstarts seem to have figured out how to do solve what they don't see as a problem in less than 3 years. Still, here we are in our 100'th year of playying college football and we still basically draw almost what we did when I was a student post Indian wars. It's almost like we don't retain our fans and alums thru each of the last 4 or so decades, but with so many newcomers moving from all over the USA into Denton County do we really need to even depend on that demographic any longer? Tulsa U Next Saturday? I was 17 years old in 1968 last time we beat the Golden Hurricane on an ABC regional televised game on Houston's KTRK Channel 13 . Coach Mac will I'm sure tell our team how long it's been. I have never liked our chances against Tulsa anytime we've teed it up and in any era for that matter. Still.............A toast to the North Texas coaches and players who have played an enormous part in setting this Mean Green ship in the right direction this Fall. UTSA cannot take that away. Still today, those pistons were just not running congruently at all. It made a big difference on the scoreboard even w/o taking anything from the UTSA's impressive efforts. GMG!3 points

I could have told you this after the Oklahoma State game. The guy is damn good and is why I didnt talk an ounce of trash these past two weeks. But your OC and DC out gamed us ten fold. We were out coached and out played from the first series on. We were lucky this game wasn't 40-13. Congrats and good luck rest of the way. Rick3 points

Where was the creativity that we've seen. No jet sweeps to Brelan. No intermediate passing game, it was long ball (that Derek simply CANNOT throw) or nothing. Ran straight ahead into a 9 and 10 man front. No screens, no draws. Nothing. UTSA on the other hand showed motion on pretty much every damn play and had our linebackers playing a step throw because they were thinking too much. And FOR THE LOVE OF GOD can we stop giving up a ten yard cushion to a team that likes to dink and dunk, ESPECIALLY IN A WINDY STADIUM!!!3 points

I'm okay with it. I wanted to play in it, but I honestly don't think anyone in the West is going to put up much of a game against ECU in their place. This team is still in position to win 9 games this season (with a bowl win) and that's something to be excited about heading into the off-season. We aren't "there" yet -- but we're not far.3 points

Really? How about this? Or this? Or this?!? Yes, it's a game we expected to win, but no one who's been around for any time can say that was our most embarrassing loss since we've been following the program.2 points

The reason that we had no offense today was bc the defense and/or special teams didn't score for us today. this is what our offense has been most of the season.2 points

They came out on the field, and started flipping the student section off. No joke. Cursing, flipping us off, engaging...everything. Trashiest team I've ever seen. Never seen that before. They're confident, but if that's the future of college football, I'll have no part of it.2 points
