I came on this board in August of 2008 when I'd come back to school seeking my graduate degree. I never imagined the friendships that I would make. I didn't know I would or could meet such a great group of people. Win, lose, or Dodge, I'm glad I went to UNT, and I'm glad I've met all of you. It's been a great ride, and it's only getting better. Beat UTSA. Go Mean Green!9 points

Rivalry is a must. If you haven't noticed, we don't have one. Another strong Texas public school with a good TV market and a great travel trip both ways? It's a match made in heaven. Plus, we need somebody in Texas to beat up on a regular basis.4 points

You guys sound like Idaho after last night's game. Some games it works and some games it just doesn't. And as much as you may not want to admit it, Idaho and UNT are VERY similar in basketball currently. An 18 win team goes to 12 wins, looking to bounce back this year. Both very close in RPI conferences. Sun Belt 1-2 spots below the WAC, CUSA .0054 (1 spot) better than the WAC this year. You may have beat on our football team, but the football players don't play on the bball team lol. Go Vandals! Go Green3 points

These players deserve better. They have talent, yet inexplicably, they seem completely unprepared to compete. Please Ernie. It is time.3 points

I have the same feeling about Lewis. Just something about him. I would also agree with everyone listed and would include Chad and Fonzale Davis.2 points

What are the unspoken rules about elevating an assistant coach to the head gig mid season and beyond? If a school were to reassign their head coach, would they be able to finish the season with the assistants at the current pay level? What about the following year, would they have to convert said assistant to a heah coach salary or would the assistant be under contract at the assistant level? Or are assistant contracts year to year? Hypothetically speaking of course.2 points

My wife (OU grad) thought we were playing UTPA this week. That might give an indication of what casual joe football fan thinks. It's the biggest game for us this week, but not this year.2 points

You care so much it is not even funny. Literally, every post by you the past two weeks has been a backhand at UTSA. If you truly did not care, you would not waste forum space spewing your "lack of respect" for UTSA.2 points

traditional rivalry...no very meaningful conference game with a "close by" Texas school...yes I've been loving reading all the smack talk back and forth. I don't remember that happening at this level in the 13 years I've been a Mean Green fan. I can't wait for tomorrow...2 points

Don't know how that got mixed up when I copied it over going to fix it.2 points

'Twas the night before UTSA, when all through North Texas Not an Eagle was stirring, not even the exes; The coolers were stocked by the tailgate with care, In hopes that St. Mac soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of Zach Orr danced in their heads; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow, Gave a lustre of midday to objects below, When what to my wondering eyes did appear, But a Friday night rally and a man they call beer, With a clinched winning record and division title on track, I knew in a moment it must be St. Mac. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now, Thompson! now, Chancellor! now Abbe and Orr! On, Buyers! on, Jim-Jim! on, Lairamie and More! To the top of the hill! to the end of Victory Hall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky; So up to Apogee the coursers they flew With the D full of hits, and St. Mac too— And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the turf The hits on the roadrunners, they could only say, "urf!" As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the sideline St. Mac came with a bound. He wore sunglasses, and a scowl like hellhound, And his clothes were all tarnished with blood, sweat and tears; I opened my cooler searching for beers, And he looked like a pedler just opening his pack. His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the whites of his eyes were as white as the snow; The grimace of victory he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a flat worked out belly That shook when he laughed, like steel and concrete jelly. He was tall and thin, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And set loose the defense; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up sideline he rose; He sprang to his bus, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight— “Happy gameday to all, and to all a good night!”2 points

Mac was trying to fix a train wreck. Benford took a train that was powering ahead and derailed it. Not sure what that is so tough for some to grasp.2 points

Sixteen days old living with my mom at my grandmother's house in the neighborhood east of Kiest blvd and Cedar Crest blvd intersection. Just across RL Thornton from the Texas Theater. While I am sure that the event was upsetting to me, I have a feeling that I was a little more concerned about my next bottle and my rapidly filling diaper. Not to mention the anger I felt as no one could understand what I was trying to say. But in reality, I have always hated that this incident had to occur in my home town.1 point

I was mighty excited driving from Denton that day. My professors at North Texas would surely understand anyone skipping class. It was a beautiful day in Dallas and Judy, my sister and I went outside where she worked near Mockingbird Lane and stood at the curb on Lemmon Avenue waiting for the JFK car to drive by. There were no more than 40 or 50 people in sight and when his car drove by it seemed to slow down and both Kennedys waved to us. We vigorously returned the waves. It was my first time seeing him in person and that limousine was so close to us. Mrs. Kennedy was beautiful and he was handsome although somewhat smaller than I had imagined. He was tan and his hair was lighter than I expected. I was halfway back to Denton when I got the news about the shooting and immediately turned around and went back to Dallas. I don't remember what street I was on where I parked my car but it was somewhere downtown, I think near the Nieman Marcus store. Men and women still dressed for work were standing around. Some were sitting on the sidewalk. Many were crying. It was early afternoon and the sky darkened so much that the street lights came on, the wind picked up, and the temperature dropped. I was cold and shaking. After a couple of hours as I drove toward Denton that afternoon I began to wrap my thoughts around the fact that the world had changed that afternoon. I thought about the countless times that I had tried to convince my parents and others to vote for Kennedy. My body wouldn't stop shaking. Later that night a friend invited me over because it was his birthday. I don't remember what was said or anything else about the night but, I didn't say much that would reveal my feelings. I don't think I ever got over that day. The world didn't either.1 point

It's about as historically significant as Garfield or McKinley. This one just had cameras rolling. Not to diminish someone's death either. The assassination of Lincoln completely changed reconstruction which has effects we still feel today. Can you imagine if Reagan died after he was shot? The Soviet Union could potentially still be around. Weird thought. I think none of the aforementioned assassinations hold a candle to the historical significance of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Either way I hate the way the media goes crazy for arbitrary anniversaries of tragedies.1 point
