  1. 'Twas the night before UTSA, when all through North Texas Not an Eagle was stirring, not even the exes; The coolers were stocked by the tailgate with care, In hopes that St. Mac soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of Zach Orr danced in their heads; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow, Gave a lustre of midday to objects below, When what to my wondering eyes did appear, But a Friday night rally and a man they call beer, With a clinched winning record and division title on track, I knew in a moment it must be St. Mac. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now, Thompson! now, Chancellor! now Abbe and Orr! On, Buyers! on, Jim-Jim! on, Lairamie and More! To the top of the hill! to the end of Victory Hall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky; So up to Apogee the coursers they flew With the D full of hits, and St. Mac too— And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the turf The hits on the roadrunners, they could only say, "urf!" As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the sideline St. Mac came with a bound. He wore sunglasses, and a scowl like hellhound, And his clothes were all tarnished with blood, sweat and tears; I opened my cooler searching for beers, And he looked like a pedler just opening his pack. His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the whites of his eyes were as white as the snow; The grimace of victory he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a flat worked out belly That shook when he laughed, like steel and concrete jelly. He was tall and thin, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And set loose the defense; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up sideline he rose; He sprang to his bus, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight— “Happy gameday to all, and to all a good night!”

  3. I've never seen a combined 14 people debate something with such fervor for two weeks ever. Everyone involved is doing a really good job!

  4. And for you rubes who are always clamoring for us to go to the Mountain West conference, check out that pathetic, fridged, empty scene between UNLV and Air Force on ESPNU that no one here in Texas will see other than in a tiny bi-line on the back page of the paper on Saturday morning. NO THANKS!!!!! Rick

  9. I was looking today at the rankings and noticed this preseason article. What I found interesting was their view on our 2013 season and what would be a "dream season" and what would a "nightmare season" look like. Looks like we are having an "orgasmatic season" lol Let's pack this thing this weekend come rain or shine. I have already invited and have commitments of 17 friends and collegues of mine. I think it's important they see the change in Mean Gren Football so they too can spread the word. Hope you all enjoy the article, what a year we are having. Don't wake me up!!! http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/cusa/2013/05/19/north-texas-college-football-countdown-2013-preview/2322131/

  10. ... really? I bet there will be some. Something along the lines of: "we should have out rebounded them, but more importantly we should have defend the three better. A almost win that really should have been a win. One little bounce of the ball this way or that way and we win."

  15. Just watched episode 9 of Beyond The Green again. In the locker room after the game when Coach Mac is addressing the team, you can see Sarge being overcome with emotion. He is swaying side-to-side and breathing heavily. You can genuinely see how much the victory personally meant to him. I also love how much Jimmerson is juiced up after the victory when he's yelling into the camera. And how Orr says, "Number 1 red zone defense in the country. Not Bama, not LSU, not none of that. MEAN GREEN DEFENSE" after The Stand. All these players are special. All the players are awesome. They are bringing back pride to UNT Football and the Mean Green Nation. Love it all. GO MEAN GREEN.

  16. To be fair, they can do the equations with trajectory and velocity and know exactly where the ball will end up.

  17. You care so much it is not even funny. Literally, every post by you the past two weeks has been a backhand at UTSA. If you truly did not care, you would not waste forum space spewing your "lack of respect" for UTSA.

  25. I would agree. I'd put it on par with playing "God Save the Queen" when the Cowboys travel to Foxboro to play the Patriots or something. I just find it not cool and very anti-Texas.

  26. We did get a little love from the USAF/UNLV announcers. They were talking about the teams with the longest bowl droughts. They were pointing out Tulane and UNLV ending their droughts, then said, "And don't forget the Mean Green of North Texas.." No cheap shots, no "State", No Eagles. They got our school name, and mascot right, and didn't say anything negative, on ESPN. Time to go call 911, think I'm about to have a heart attack.

  31. If Rice loses, we will probably lose our shot at hosting the CUSA Championship

  32. It would put Rice at 2 losses, Tulane at 3 losses, and UTSA at 3 (for what that's worth) and us at just 1 heading into the last week. Insurmountable 2 game lead on Tulane and UTSA with just 1 left, and 1 game lead on rice but we'd hold the tiebreaker so the best they could do with us would be tie and lose via tiebreaker. But as NT03 said, it'd be better if us and Rice both finish 7-1 in conference and we advance on tiebreaker. Better for us with regards to our BCS lead on Marshall, so we could potentially host the CUSA championship game if Marshall knocks off ECU.

  33. I liked the fact that he also must understand the concept of "Earning Your Keep" considering they gave their men's basketball coach his first HC job with a two/three??? year contract to start out with,.... then when he "earned his keep" in the first year,.. rewarded him with an extension. 41. Who said we were supposed to win? It is a hell of lot different than last year. Last year there was talk of being a top 25 team, this year no one expects much.

  42. Last season I thought we were often the victims of bad luck when it came to other teams' surreal three point percentages against us, but at some point you have to blame your defensive style, right?

  43. Another great episode of Beyond the Green. Great segment on Sarge. Now watching the UTSA program....UTSA Insider. Really not bad, but no where near as well done as Beyond the Green! Overall quality is just so much better on Beyond the Green, and it is pretty much just a moderated update and preview show. But, did like seeing a few of their guys and hearing from them. This is not going to be a cakewalk AT ALL for the Mean Green. Mean Green is favored, and should be, and should definitely win the game. But "shoulda" mean noting. It's what happens on the field between the while lines Saturday. Here's hoping the Mean Green stays hungry and wants that CUSA Championship. If they do...we'll see Mean Green win # 8 Saturday. Go Mean Green...Why Not North Texas! Beat UTSA! Pretty cool segment on how the UTSA engineering and technology folks are working with the football team with a kicking simulator at UTSA.
