A group of me and my friends (UTSA fans) are coming up for the game. We don't get in until 10pm that night and are staying near UNT. Its my buddies birthday and were looking for a place to get some drinks/play darts/party etc. Any recommendations of places open til 2am? I don't know squat about Denton. Are cabs easily reachable in case we want to get really drunk? We are more of whiskey/scotch or craft/local beer drinkers. I've yelped it and it seems there is a cluster of places near Oak st and Hickory st. Were all late 20s early 30s. I know most of y'all hate UTSA fans (I try to make all of my smack talk humorous in some regard) but any advice outside of KFCs would be appreciated. Sorry if there is a more appropriate sub-form for this.5 points

Was sitting at a stop light the other day and looked up to see a couple in UTSA gear walking through the cross walk. Floored it, ran the red light, but got em' both.5 points

Glasco: Best overall runner and excellent between/off tackle. Gets better as game goes on Okotcha: Stout back that is best running north and south as he lacks top end speed. Very good blocker and pass catcher out of backfield Armstrong: Small (5'4) and fast who is more of a situation back. Has 3 TDs this year over 30 yards Willimas: True Freshman and most talent. Has 2 fumbles and as a rookie and struggles in pass protection No excuses with Glasco out. Injuries are part of the game. Looks like UNT will be without their spell back as well. UTSA's running game is very diverse. Soza and the WR group also have several TDs running the ball4 points

On the bright side, at tailgating, you can damn near hook yourself up to an IV of everclear and nobody will care.3 points

Okotcha is a bigger guy, bangs it up the middle. Glasco is not as big, but dangerous when he gets in space. As Digi said, Okotcha is also a good receiver. I think he actually led the team last year in receptions. Regardless, as much as we swap personnel, you won't have an *. even if Glasco could go, he would probably only play 40% of the downs. Okotcha, Armstrong, Williams, and maybe Vaughn will all get plenty of touches. Williams is the back of the future. He was hurt early in the season, but he's coming on strong lately, despite two costly fumbles. During the Tulsa game, it was amusing to hear their commentators griping about all the rotations. Late in the game, one of them said "here come's UTSA's 95th personnel package."3 points

I went to a dealership in Frisco last Friday and I was wearing my Mean Green t-shirt, and an old salesman came to me and told his colleagues "I get this young man because he is a mean green and my son graduated from UNT last year" However, at the begging he talked about how good the Mean Green is this season and said that he wants to come to visit Apogee, and I told him I'll get you a ticket and he said if that is the deal i'll be at Apogee for sure this Saturday.3 points

The comment on there about him holding back student fees for athletics makes me nervous. We need someone willing to raise them to the maximum allowed and someone willing to. Behind the scenes push for a dedicated athletics fee and not just the watered down stadium fee our lazy and incompetent chancellor allowed to happen.3 points

You have no facilities. You won 2 recruiting battles against us this year for recruits from South Texas. You have a worse record than us. You're about to lose to us. You don't have your own stadium. 2,000 students show up if you're lucky. I guess I don't get it. UTSA fans won the battle here. I'm at a loss for words. I'm beaten down.3 points

Gees, this has taken all the fun out of the game. Win or lose, I look forward to a day when te UTSA douchebags are gone. It's bad enough dealing with out own.3 points

I'm not much of a fan of pro basketball, but I'm not above reading a box score to push what should be a long dormant agenda!3 points

When in Cancun, a young man from Toronto walked up to me and started talking UNT football. He knew players, stats, the whole thing. It seems he learned about on his Playstation. I have him my new ball cap.3 points

I still get the occasional free movie ticket because the GM is a NT grad. The son of the owners of "Mexicali", my favorite cheap delicious Tex-Mex restaurant in Lake Highlands is a NT grad. Was in KFC recently and the clerk mentioned the upcoming UTSA game. Apparently she was offered the choice between a UTSA degree or a job at KFC...says she chose the more profitable option.3 points

You almost had me. Then I realized, no one wears UTSA gear.3 points

I think he's happy at UNT. You can't change people's perceptions of a program overnight. But winning the conference in the first season of membership will go a long, long way. There's still that matter of hundreds of thousands of alum within an hour's drive of Denton...2 points

I heard that Chuck Norris' mother has a tattoo that reads 'John Skladany.'2 points

If a big time school come calling, NT is not going to out salary them; silly to even try. I doubt McCarney with all his health issues and age is going to be as hot commodity as some seem to think. However, if he does land a better gig; more power to him.2 points

So the lure of immediate playing time at a fledgling program never crossed your mind? Are you the kid from Sling Blade?2 points

I dunno, but I think coach White @ LA Tech will need to pack 4 suits for the C-USA tournament. They're playing good basketball in Ruston.2 points

So then, by your definition, if we got a recruit that also had offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Colorado, and Texas Tech, we must be the best football program out of that list. We're also the best basketball school out of Baylor, Kansas State, Marquette, Missouri State, and Oklahoma State. I learned something new. The closer we get to game time, the more I feel like UTSA won't bring that many people. It's something to do on a Saturday in San Antonio, but that's most likely the extent of their fandom.2 points

A couple of times, I was at game-watching events in AZ and when I walked past in my UNT shirts I heard the "huh? what? are you lost?" snickers between fans of other teams. They said nothing the next time I walked past after UNT WON!!! You're welcome2 points

Well, at least there is some humorous stuff in this thread. First, what in the heck is going on here? Have not witnessed this sort of thing about any other team or from any other team's fan base. Really amazing. It's a college football game and it is supposed to be fun. Some of you seem to be taking this a bit too personal. UNT has a long and proud history, and is moving forward toward tier one status. UTSA is a newer university just really beginning to create its history. Good for them, and good for us. We are now in the same conference, and, for me, I couldn't be happier to have an in-state rival close enough to drive to located in a great Texas city. How long has it been that we have wanted some Texas schools in our conference? Now we have Rice, UTEP and UTSA. That is a very good thing in my opinion. So, how about we all get into the game and enjoy it? It is college football after all. So, let's welcome our conference mates, UTSA in a friendly manner and have a great game. Let's also be nice during and after the game as we wish our UTSA friends better luck next time and thank them for coming to beautiful Apogee and UNT for the game. We'll congratulate them on their win over Tulane as it is something we were not able to accomplish. Hopefully, they will congratulate us on our CUSA conference title and wish us well in our post-season bowl game. Let's keep it classy and keep it fun. It should be a fun Mean Green day, Saturday...should. But, the game will be decided on the playing field not between some over zealous fans on a message board. God, do I ever hope our players have better things to be focusing on right now. This will be no UTEP walk-over. These guys are coming to play and have a chance at a 6 win season. They will, of course, leave with that chance shattered, but at this point, that is yet to be determined. Welcome to Denton, to UNT and to Apogee to all our Roadrunner friends. I promise you that I won't judge the UTSA fan base by the zealots on their fan board if they promise not to judge ours by those posting here. It is a fan board after all. It is silly that opposing fans sign up and post here...and post smack and then think the response they get is symbolic of the entire fan base? Odd. I am glad folks are proud of their various universities. But, folks.....2 points

It's official. I like this trade. If we can keep our rotation healthy and pick up a solid closer to replace Nathan, I think the Rangers are back in the mix.2 points

What's weird is registering to post on an opponent's message board and then crying about the smack talk. Welcome to football fandom.2 points

I'm not sure about this hire. Being pro-athletics in Nevada or any other state is one thing but this is Texas and he has ties to Texas(ut) and I remember the last three individuals who worked for UNT with ut ties and it was BAD. Helwig, Trilli and Dodge darn near distroyed our program. I don't like the hire at all but I hope for the best for our University. It shouldn't take long to know his true feelings about UNT, both academics and athletics. If you see orange showing up anywhere on campus................................2 points

Don't know if I'd want UNT in the MWC. The All-American, sure. But not the MWC.2 points

We are no longer a commuter school. Most of our students live within 10 miles of campus. I believe, can't remember the exact number, but roughly half live directly on or surrounding campus (within 5) and the other 25% live within 15 miles. The other 25% commute...comparable to UT, better than SMU and TCU. We have so many students wanting to live on campus that they had to put them in hotels. We are not a fallback. When polled, over half of the freshman class said NT was their first choice. Maybe UNT was your second choice and maybe you commuted but your antiquated ideas continue to damage the reputation of this university.2 points
