  1. Dear Mean Green Football Seniors, You guys decided to jump on the Mean Green wagon when it was a broken down, decrepit, piece of junk. The writing was on the wall for the head coach you guys signed with, yet you still came on board. No doubt you had aspirations of changing this thing around. Tough job you took on... Here we are, 4 years later (some less, some more), after enduring Fouts Field, losing seasons, multiple coaching changes (especially on defense), and alot of frustrations from fans (let alone the frustrations you must have felt yourselves)... Here you are, on the precipice of something VERY, VERY SPECIAL. #Hit6 just was not enough for you guys. Overachievers! We're so proud of you all, not only for what you've done on the gridiron, but also for the men you've become. We're excited that in just a few months you will be our brothers as North Texas Alumni. Thank you.

  5. We are no longer a commuter school. Most of our students live within 10 miles of campus. I believe, can't remember the exact number, but roughly half live directly on or surrounding campus (within 5) and the other 25% live within 15 miles. The other 25% commute...comparable to UT, better than SMU and TCU. We have so many students wanting to live on campus that they had to put them in hotels. We are not a fallback. When polled, over half of the freshman class said NT was their first choice. Maybe UNT was your second choice and maybe you commuted but your antiquated ideas continue to damage the reputation of this university.

  6. Thank you all students who helped pay for Apogee stadium through tuition, and donors! It has made my college experience exponentially better than if we were still in Fouts and it has been the true homefield advantage that we were lacking.

  7. It's like this El Camino. UTSA is the guy in the member's only jacket and thick glasses sitting next to the main stage at the strip club. CUSA is the stripper. The San Antonio market is your paycheck that the bartender has converted to a stack of ones. The stripper is, naturally, all over you because you're giving her so many dollars. You, naive and nerdy, are getting all excited and chest bumping your geek friends because you think you have a chance with this chick (championship). We (North Texas) just happen to be sitting across the room laughing our asses off because we know she's coming home with us (championship). But hey El Camino, MAKE IT RAIN in the meantime. We could use some new Christmas gifts (bowl game).

  14. Lol. What an idiot. I have never seen such an insecure, immature fan base, including many of our SBC mates. Gotta try and destroy what they have no ability to do. Lets beat them by 30 and move the F on.

  16. LOL - Why are you guys so proud of playing in some place you rent? It isn't your stadium. Stop bragging about it. Especially since I know every single one of you would love to have an on-campus stadium. You act as if Apogee fell out of the sky and it just landed in our back yard. We earned that stadium: The students voted to pass a fee. I know you guys have problems with students supporting UTSA, but here they want a successful program. The alumni stepped up and donated money for it. Some gave millions, some gave thousands, but they gave. The administration went out and found major corporate donors. Those donor's didn't give some free chicken coupons, they gave millions of dollars. So if you come here Saturday, enjoy a real college atmosphere. When Boomer goes off, find out why he has 12 brass screws, that's called tradition. Those 10,000 people just behind your teams bench? Those are called student's attending a football game. The place you are sitting in? That's called a 78 million dollar commitment, not a rental.

  19. No "agenda" hear - just don't watch the "pro" game that much and was curious because I was genuinely surprised to see Tony not on the "court." Leave it to the "usual suspects" to turn this into something I clearly didn't mean. Wishing nothing but the best for Tony and our boys on the court this year!!!11

  21. This is like trying to reason with a petulant three year old: You can't have it both ways sweet heart. I know it's hard for you, what with the inferior education and all, but try and keep a coherent thread through your arguments. LOL. This is where our history and your lack of it really shows. Do you know how many schools have told us this in the past? In the SBC alone we heard THIS EXACT SENTENCE from schools like MTSU, Troy and WKU. Those schools had much more success at the lower levels to hang their hat on, they even had some early success because they were lower division schools that were able to sell the imminent jump to the big leagues. Guess what? They fell quickly back to earth when they had to recruit on equal footing. I mean, on some level, we find your three year old enthusiasm charming and precocious, but you act like such spoiled brats that it ruins it. Top flight football is a bumpy ride, strap in and try to act like you have been here before.

  22. i think we can all agree that in his short time here, Dr. Rawlins has had a tremendous impact on UNT, academically and athletics alike. I remember my first encounter with Dr. Rawlins I had no idea who he was (being a freshman) and he was sitting next to me before a speech he was going to give in the One O'clock lounge. He asked me what my degree was, what I wanted to be when I graduated, told me about how he got his PhD in Economics and wanted to be an attorney at one point (but luckily for UNT went into academia.) My favorite memory of him was during a Hot Springs tournament, when we were playing UALR I believe, some of the opposing team's women's basketball team ran up and down our side of the stands waving their Jerseys and taunting us. He stood up and gave them a grandpa stare down like you wouldn't believe. Wish him much luck, and hope he enjoys fishing and spending time with his grand kids!

  23. Ugh, I really hope the entire UNT community doesn't hate the Marine Corps now cause of this guy. I was a Marine for six years. In addition, I like comic books, video games, and not using my veteran status to troll sports forums....

  24. Maybe a thread should be started with the title...."Why Do UNT Folks Always Think Someone Else Does It Better?" This sort of crap-ola is getting a bit tired. "Why can't we" do this or that when some other university comes up with a different message, ad program, promotion, uniform, rap video, etc., etc. Maybe folks should actually open their eyes and ears to all the great stuff happening around UNT these days and focus a tad more on the greatness that is UNT rather than something some other university is doing. What is Indiana's record this year so far? I believe it is 4-6 and looking like no bowl for the Hoosiers. I believe UNT is 7-3 and bowl bound, right? And, as I recall...UNT beat Indiana the last time they met on the football field...at Apogee no less! Maybe Indiana should figure out how to win a football game from UNT and not worry so much about a student rap video done in fun.

  27. This negates the rest of your post. No sane person would subject themselves to 2+ weeks of this godforsaken message board and this wacky fanbase if they were not a fan of UNT. I am a fan, so I'm stuck with these folks. You have a choice. I can not trust your judgement.

  29. Ok, flip side to that argument. If he has tu ties, couldn't he lobby for us to get into the Big12-2 if our success were to continue?

  30. You're going down a slippery slope there with the generalizations, just because he has ties to UT like other people who didn't work out doesn't mean he will have the same outcome. You have to look at individuals, and if I stop you at "Being Pro-athletics," that's a good enough start for me.

  38. Science is not an after thought on campus. It may have been in the past, but the school has committed to science in a big way and put it's money where it's mouth is. Millions of dollars in start up money to lure some of the top researchers from top flight schools. Millions of dollars in research cluster grants to further innovation and cooperation among University researchers. Millions of dollars to start and continually upgrade the University HPC super computer, Talon. New positions, new business processes, new centers to help researchers land grants. If you think Apogee is nice and expensive, it pales in comparison to new buildings like the Life Science Complex.

  39. Science should be getting pushed hard, and my perception is that it's been somewhat of an afterthought at UNT. Maybe that's ok for the undergrad side, but if you wanna get the big grant bucks, you need to build up that doctorate program and get some actual research happening. To borrow a term from Reagan, get that grant money pouring in, and things start to trickle down to the undergrad level. The students start to have a different self perception, a little swagger, a better grasp of quantum physics and the universe. Liberal arts degrees are great. I've got one myself. But if you want a university (the uni part being short for "universal") to gain respect, elevated status, and grow its endowment, you need it to excel in business and science. Law and medicine are nice additions at some point (probably not now...cough....downtown Dallas debacle...cough), but it begins with science and business.

  40. I met Dr. Smatresk when I was living in Las Vegas and he is a class act. I would love to have him come to Denton because he is passionate about sports. He was a HUGE UNLV Runnin Rebel supporter and was easy to connect with. He was involved in the community and supportive of efforts to build the Rebellion (student section, great name by the way) into a force to be reckoned with in the Thomas & Mack. The crazy thing is that Dr. Smastrek was in Hawaii when I lived a mile from UH (University of Hawaii). I was in Las Vegas when he arrived in Sin City. I moved back to Dallas last year so book it - Here comes Dr. Smastrek! GMG

  42. You're good, Holmes. I come from a military family, which has taught me a few things: 1 -- A uniform does not instantly validate your opinion. 2 -- An idiot in a uniform is still an idiot. 3 -- One idiot in a uniform does not mean everyone in the same uniform is an idiot. 4 -- A true veteran appreciates the work of other vets, regardless of which uniform they wore. Thank you for your service as well, sir. I'm eternally grateful. That goes for every vet I encounter.

  47. Agreed. So don't go smearing it by saluting inappropriately just so you can say "HEY! LOOK AT ME. I'M A VETERAN"! Real veterans know what they did. They don't have to pass laws so everyone pays attention to them in a crowd everytime the national anthem plays
